00:00AccuWeather is predicting an unusually quiet August in the Atlantic Basin pertaining to
00:07tropical activity. Now that's a big statement to make because history tells us that August
00:12is typically a very busy month of the hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin. In fact, average,
00:20we see four name storms, two hurricanes, and we usually see the first hurricane of the season
00:25in August. Take a look at this stat too. Since 1961, there's only been three years where there were
00:32no named storms in August. What's going on? Well, we currently have a lot of dry air and wind shear.
00:40You can see the dry air in the water vapor loop from Africa toward the islands. And you see the
00:45wind shear product, all the dark purple, including into the Caribbean, that's wind shear. Now that is
00:50typical for this time of the year. However, we are expecting that the widespread dry air and wind
00:58shear will continue most of this month. That's why we think there's limited tropical activity.
01:04However, the ingredients could become a little more favorable by the end of the month, but still in
01:10all, it's going to be unusually quiet.
