Crochet the fox head for a sweet, snuggly Fox Tail Scarf with clean color changes and a rounded shape that starts to bring the character to life. This tutorial focuses on the head section using a 6 mm hook and three colors, with black for the nose, then white and red to build the face and muzzle.

The rounds move step by step from a small nose tip into the wider head, using double crochet, increases, decreases, and a few single crochet stitches near the end. Safety eyes are added between rounds four and five, and the head is shaped without stuffing so it can curve neatly at the forehead. It’s a helpful crochet pattern video for makers following a fox scarf or animal scarf project.

Created for crochet tutorial viewers who search for fox scarf pattern, crochet animal head, amigurumi-style shaping, beginner-friendly crochet guidance, and low-sew scarf projects. It’s also useful as a reference for color changes, safety eye placement, and scarf accessory making.

00:16The head will be made using three different colors. Black, red, and white is what I'm using
00:22for my fox, but you're welcome to use other colors. And you will be making the head with
00:28a 6mm crochet hook. Let's begin with the tip of the nose. I'm using black for this part.
00:38For round one, we're going to start with a slip knot so that we can chain. Make two chains,
00:46one and two, and insert... we're going to work in the second chain from the hook, meaning
00:53the very first chain you made here. So in that first chain, you're going to insert six single
01:01crochets. That's one, two, three, four, five, oops, and six. We're going to finish off round one with a join
01:25to the very first single crochet here. And after you've done that, it's time to move on to round two.
01:36For round two, we're switching into using white yarn. And I'm going to start with two chains, one and two.
01:52And in the very first stitch, we're going to just do a double crochet. Like so. In the next stitch,
02:09we're going to do a double crochet increase, meaning two double crochets in the same stitch.
02:18And after this double crochet increase, we're actually going to switch to the main color for
02:25the body. I'm using red for my fox. So here, I'm going to grab my red yarn and I'm going
02:34to pull
02:34through with you red yarn for my last white stitch. This way, as you can see, you're pulling through
02:43and starting with red right away for your next stitch. So now in red, we're going to do one double
02:50crochet.
02:59And then a double crochet increase in the next stitch.
03:06This finishes off the red. So you are going to want to switch back to white yarn
03:16when you wrap up this last red stitch. So I'm switching back to white here.
03:28All right. So you can see here, we've got that middle part going.
03:32In white, we're going to make a double crochet in the next stitch.
03:39And then a double crochet increase in the very last stitch.
03:51And you will join with a slip stitch to the very first double crochet that you made.
03:57Not the chains, but the very first double crochet.
04:01And I'm going to push. It looks really weird right now because it's inside out
04:05or it's the wrong side out. I mean, I'm going to push it so that the right side faces out.
04:12And as you can see, when I do that, the stitches and color changes are looking a lot cleaner.
04:21So now let's work on round two. Oh, excuse me, round three.
04:25Round three, we're going to make two chains to start. Then we're going to make a double crochet.
04:34And then we're going to make a double crochet.
04:35And then a double crochet increase.
04:43And then a double crochet in white.
04:47We're finishing up with red. It's because we're switching over to that color now.
04:54And we're going to make a double crochet in the red stitch.
05:00Double crochet increase in the next stitch.
05:09And a double crochet in the next stitch.
05:16And a double crochet in the next stitch.
05:46And we're going to join with a slip stitch to the very first double crochet that you made.
05:54like so.
05:58By the way, you can fasten off the black yarn.
06:02We're not going to be working in black anymore for the remainder of this section.
06:07So you can just get that, um, away.
06:12All right. Just working with red and white for a while here.
06:18For this next round, round number four, we're going to make two chains to start.
06:25Then we're going to do a double crochet and then a double crochet increase twice.
06:31So here's what that'll look like.
06:33A double crochet first.
06:36Then a double crochet increase in the next stitch.
06:45And then a double crochet.
06:48And last, a double crochet increase.
06:53And since we're switching over to red now, we're going to finish that last white stitch with red.
07:02Like so.
07:04And in red, you're going to repeat the same here.
07:08You're going to make a double crochet and then double crochet increase twice.
07:12So here's the first double crochet.
07:16Then we're going to do the double crochet increase.
07:25Then a double crochet.
07:28And a double crochet increase.
07:35And we're going to switch to white since this is the last red stitch of the round.
07:42And in this last section.
07:45Again, you're going to repeat that repetition with a double crochet, double crochet increase.
07:57Double crochet.
08:00Double crochet increase.
08:09Now we're going to join with a slip stitch to the very first stitch double crochet you made.
08:16And that's that for round number four.
08:21For round five, we're going to make the repetition double crochet, double crochet increase, and double crochet twice all the
08:29way around.
08:30So for the first part in white, we're going to do that two times.
08:34So here's my two chains to start.
08:37And then it's a double crochet.
08:40Here's my increase.
08:44And then a double crochet.
08:47First repetition is done.
08:50Let's do the second repetition.
08:52Double crochet, double crochet increase,
08:57and a double crochet.
08:59And here I'm going to switch off to the color red.
09:05And now we're going to repeat this in red.
09:08Double crochet, double crochet increase,
09:15double crochet,
09:21and again double crochet,
09:24double crochet increase,
09:30double crochet,
09:32and we're going to switch to white because we're finishing off the last red stitch.
09:38And repeat that repetition twice for the last bit of white.
10:01When you finish the round,
10:03you'll be doing it with a join to the first stitch,
10:08as we've been doing for the past few rounds.
10:11You should see your fox's face get bigger and bigger.
10:17Now we're going to do round six.
10:20In round six, we're going to make a large increase here.
10:24And this will actually be the very last round using white yarn for the head.
10:32So let's begin.
10:39We're going to start with two chains.
10:42And then you're going to do a double crochet and an increase,
10:46repeating four times around,
10:48four times across in white.
10:50So here's my double crochet, double crochet increase.
10:59Again, double crochet, double crochet increase.
11:07All right, that was the second repetition.
11:09Now for the third, double crochet, double crochet increase.
11:20And let's keep going for that last bit.
11:24Double crochet, double crochet increase.
11:29And we're going to finish off this stitch with red.
11:34Switching over to red now.
11:37Now in red, instead of increasing, we're only going to double crochet across.
11:42So that's going to make eight stitches across in red.
11:46That's one, two,
11:51three,
11:55four,
11:59five,
12:03six, oops.
12:07Sorry, my thread keeps, my yarn keeps slipping here.
12:12Seven,
12:15and eight.
12:17And here I'm finishing it off with the white yarn.
12:21Going back to white here.
12:26And in white, we're going to do what we did from the other side.
12:32It's going to be double crochet and then increase across four times.
12:38So here's the first repetition with a double crochet and an increase.
12:47Now here's the second repetition.
12:51Double crochet and increase.
13:01Third repetition.
13:08Double crochet and increase.
13:12Double crochet and increase.
13:13And the very last repetition.
13:16A double crochet and an increase.
13:22And as always, join your rounds with a slip stitch to the very first stitch.
13:30And we're going to finish off the round with a join to the first, um, double crochet stitch.
13:37Here.
13:39At this point, you can go ahead and attach plastic safety eyes.
13:44I'm using really large 16 millimeter eyes for my fox.
13:49You can use any size you want.
13:52Um, I place them between rounds four and five.
13:55So counting from the nose, round one, that's one, two, three, four, and five.
14:02So right between these two rows, rounds, excuse me.
14:07And I like to put it right between, in between the color change.
14:11So here would be between rounds four and five and the color change.
14:18I'm going to insert my first eye here.
14:21And my second one will be right there.
14:26Like so.
14:29After you have the eyes secured, you can go ahead and
14:32move on to round seven.
14:34For round seven, we're actually going to switch to using red only.
14:38And we will keep using red for the next long stretch.
14:42So you can go ahead and fasten off the white after you join with red.
14:48Here I am starting round seven with two chains.
14:52Like so.
14:53And then you're going to make a double crochet in the first stitch.
15:01I'm holding the yarn strands, um, from the previous color and with the red color here so that it gets
15:08crocheted along into my project so I don't have to worry about weaving it in.
15:15We're going to double crochet six times total.
15:22And usually three stitches is enough for me to weave in my tails.
15:35Okay, so here's three double crochets and then I'm going to do a double crochet decrease in the next stitch.
15:44Here's what it looks like.
15:46You're double crocheting two stitches together.
15:48So yarn over like you would for a regular double crochet.
15:52Insert your hook into the first stitch.
15:55Yarn over, pull through a loop.
15:57Insert your hook into the second stitch.
15:59Yarn over, pull through a loop.
16:02You have four loops on your hook.
16:04Yarn over, pull through the first three loops.
16:07Then yarn over and pull through the last two loops.
16:11We're going to repeat this around four times total.
16:15Double crochet six and then decrease all the way around.
16:20By the way, I'm going to snip off that white yarn so it doesn't keep
16:24bumping into my hand here.
16:26All right, so double crochet six.
16:54And then I'm going to double crochet two stitches together for my decrease.
17:01Double crochet six.
17:19Double crochet two stitches together for my decrease.
17:26And then working around for that last repetition.
17:48Join with a slip stitch to the very first double crochet when you are at the end of your round.
17:56We're going to now work on round eight.
18:00For round eight, we're going to start with two chains.
18:03And then you're going to double crochet five and then decrease all the way around.
18:10A total of four times.
18:14Here's one, two, three, four, and five double crochets.
18:24And now I'm going to make my decrease.
18:31Let's repeat.
19:11One, two, three, three.
19:11You guys come out.
19:16and now we are on round nine for round nine we are gonna work only in single crochet stitches
19:23we've been using double crochet for quite a while now it's time to use just single
19:28crochet stitches so be sure to do that we're gonna start with a chain and then two single
19:37crochets one and two and then a decrease so i'm stitching two single crochets together and we're
19:47doing that six times around for a total of 18 stitches we're gonna single crochet two and decrease
19:57here single crochet two decrease single crochet two decrease
20:25single crochet two and decrease and now we're gonna join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet
20:46that's that for the head of your fox and as you can see um you aren't going to be stuffing
20:54it so you
20:55can push it in so that it has a nice rounded curve for the forehead
21:00you
