00:00Hello there, welcome to a Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:03We have a thunderstorm warning in force until this evening across much of England and Wales.
00:08Another one has been issued for tomorrow, extending from Wales, northwest England, down towards London area.
00:15And this is where we're expecting the greatest impacts associated with thundery rain moving from the south.
00:19The risk of lightning, gusty winds associated with some torrential downpours, the risk of flash flooding.
00:25So this will cause problems on the roads through morning rush hour as well as evening rush hour as this
00:31area of cloud and thundery rain pushes northwards.
00:35Notice how intense it is and it will extend towards Scotland into Thursday evening, return towards the west country as
00:41well as Wales.
00:42And then low pressure in charge on Friday with cloud and heavy rain swirling around it, sporadic bursts of showery
00:48rain before it clears.
00:49That's not the end of the story. Through Saturday, another area of cloud and rain will move in across England
00:56and Wales.
00:56The winds will pick up as well, some showers further north.
00:59And in fact, for the bank holiday weekend, which will be England, Wales, Northern Ireland, expect rain or showers.
01:05Now, for the time being, we do have a warning zone extending from northern and eastern parts of Wales down
01:12towards the home counties.
01:14This is where we're seeing a cluster of thunderstorms through this evening.
01:18They will continue through the next few hours before fading away.
01:21At the same time, we do have some showery rain just across the southwest of Scotland, northwest England.
01:28Now, again, we could see one or two heavier pulses as it pushes in across the west there and it
01:34will eventually clear as well.
01:36And then some drier skies, some clearer skies, perhaps a few showers in the mix towards the east before this
01:43thundery rain approaches from the south.
01:45The winds will pick up across the west country as well as the Channel coast.
01:49It's going to be a humid night, a muggy one, temperatures holding 17 to 19 Celsius across much of England
01:55and Wales
01:56and warm also for Northern Ireland, central and southern parts of Scotland.
02:00Here's your warning zone through the first part of Thursday.
02:04You can see where this thundery rain is.
02:07So for rush hour, particularly if you are travelling and you're encountering this rain,
02:12it is going to slow things down because it is heavy, fairly extensive and it is moving very slowly northwards.
02:19At the same time, there could be a few showers just extending across North Pennines through the first part of
02:25tomorrow
02:25and that showery rain clearing the Outer Hebrides through the first part of the morning as well.
02:30A fine start across Northern Ireland, much of Scotland seeing some sunshine away from the east
02:35where that cloud will just come and go with an onshore breeze.
02:38Let's now watch the progress of this thundery rain as it gradually moves northwards through the first part of Thursday.
02:46In its wake, we'll see some brighter skies but still quite a breeze as that rain persists across Wales,
02:53the Midlands and then Northern England as we head into the afternoon.
02:58Now again, the risk of some quite torrential downpours associated with it, gusty winds
03:02and temperatures will be on the high side.
03:05So feeling very warm across England and Wales, 24 to 27 across central and southern areas,
03:1122 across Northern England, central and southern parts of Scotland as well as Northern Ireland
03:16and warm in the sunshine across Western Scotland, 20 or 21 degrees Celsius here.
03:21But notice still quite a brisk breeze towards the southwest.
03:24That's the picture through Thursday afternoon.
03:27Through Thursday evening, that thundery rain continues its passage northwards.
03:32We'll see some showers breaking out across highlands ahead of it
03:35and that rain returns to more western areas of Wales as well as the west country.
03:40Perhaps some clearer skies across central and eastern areas into the early hours of Friday morning,
03:44but low pressure always centred, anchored across the central part of the UK,
03:50allowing for this cloud and showery rain just to swirl around into Friday.
03:55It's going to be another mild if not warm night and still rather muggy in places.
04:01And those winds picking up some strength into Friday across more northern and eastern areas
04:05and a brisk breeze also to start the day towards the southwest with some showery bursts of rain.
04:11Now through Friday, notice this rain just sort of rotating around that low.
04:17So again, we'll see some sporadic and some heavy bursts of rain through the morning into the afternoon,
04:22interspersed with some brighter weather, if not some sunshine.
04:26So the rain could be hit and miss through the morning.
04:28Showers will develop through the afternoon.
04:30However, for Northern Ireland, you'll see some fine conditions coming through
04:34as well as western areas of Scotland.
04:36Some drier weather here, if not some brighter, sunnier moments with temperatures 20 or 21 Celsius.
04:42And temperatures will be down a notch elsewhere.
04:45So probably 21 to 24 generally across England and Wales
04:49and the high teens across northern areas of Scotland
04:51where you could see some heavy downpours through the afternoon.
04:55So through Friday evening and overnight, that showery rain tends to clear.
05:00But low pressure is still close by the UK through the weekend.
05:04We will see rain or showers on Saturday and into Sunday.
05:08And then the winds pick up into Monday as well.
05:10Turning fresher, temperatures won't be as high.
05:13Obviously, we'll keep you posted here on all our social media channels.
05:17And it's worth tuning in to our 10-day trend this week.
05:20It's with Annie.
05:21I'll see you again soon.
