00:00We also heard from Deshaun Watson today, and I know a guy who heard from Deshaun Watson right
00:03after the game was sitting here doing the postgame show with Jeff on the Browns Radio Network. He is
00:08Tyvus Paul, and right now he's on the Wise Hard Right. We make it right. Call Kyle Wright. Hotline.
00:13Hi, Tyvus. How are you? I am a wonderful gentleman. How are you doing? I could only imagine the phone's
00:21just being hot today. A little warm? Yeah, I burned my fingers like probably 10 times.
00:29The news is official, my friend. What are your thoughts?
00:34I mean, do I love it? No, not at all. What are we going to do about it? We're going
00:39to sit here and
00:40complain about it? I'm one of those guys, so when I had the pleasure of playing under Greg Williams
00:48when he was with the Browns for my cup of tea, when I was with the Browns for a cup
00:52of tea,
00:52and it's crazy because as little as for a short time that I was there, he made a lasting impact.
00:59One of the things that he used to say is you can't dwell over things, especially in this league.
01:03You got to be so what, now what? So that's how I am when it comes to this decision. Did
01:08I want it to
01:09be Deshaun? No. I figured after everything that happened, you should go with Shador. I think that's
01:14the smart and logical thing that everybody thought should happen. You go with Shador. We move on.
01:20It is what it is. But now that we ultimately have faced with reality that Deshaun Watson is going to
01:28be the quarterback this season, well, for the foresee future, I have no choice but as a Browns fan
01:35to get behind it and hope that good things happen, you know? What, am I going to sit here and
01:39root
01:39against my favorite team? No. I'm going to sit there and hope that hopefully the things that we didn't
01:45see behind the scenes makes the difference. Because the problem with it is this, and this
01:50is why it's such an uproar, is because now there's data, there's footage of out there,
01:58film out there of two quarterbacks going back and forth to where when you come out today and
02:04say, well, we just think Deshaun gives us the best chance to score points and move the football.
02:12Yeah, move the football. It's hard to sell that because we've seen two games. We've seen both
02:18quarterbacks and, you know, you can't really say that. Neither guy would appear to give you a great
02:24chance, Divas. Yeah, you can't really say the one guy beats the other guy because the data and the
02:31footage and the film says otherwise. So it's hard to sell that. This is ultimately what I think.
02:36And this could be wrong or it could be right. You know, I tend to be wrong sometimes. I think
02:42this. I think over the course of this training camp, two quarterbacks went at it. One quarter,
02:50they came in there with their mind with, Deshaun Watson is probably going to be the starter.
02:56But we want to see what Shador brings to the table. Through those practices, it was a time
03:02where Shador was winning, right? Or even, let's say it was even. He got to even. Shador had to
03:11catch up to Deshaun. Let's say he caught up to Deshaun. I think that it was a course of a
03:16four
03:16or five day practice where Deshaun looked really, really good. And I'm talking, you know, the day he
03:21threw the seven touchdowns in the red zone. Everybody in Berea was like, oh my goodness.
03:26I didn't even know he could do this. I thought he was completely shot. This man went out there and
03:31had a magnificent performance. Then we moved to the Saturday scrimmage where they flipped
03:36Shador and Deshaun. That was tail one right there. You know, there wasn't a good explanation,
03:42but that was tail one right there that they kind of was leaning more towards Deshaun.
03:45I was at that practice. Deshaun looked good. Not saying Shador looked bad because Shador looked
03:51good for his standards too. I thought Shador was upset at the fact that he was not the number
03:56one quarterback that day that he got moved and he went out there and he was threading
04:00the needle. But I will say that the offense looked a tad bit better with Deshaun Watson.
04:04He definitely moved the ball up and down the field. And I think they scored about two or
04:08three touchdowns or what fans believe in. When you look at those, I know you can also say
04:18Deshaun Watson put the ball in harm's way the most because he got the most interceptions.
04:23So when you say he gives us the best chance to win, that's hard to sell. It's hard to sell
04:30because he also puts the ball in harm's way more than the other guy did. So I don't know. I
04:36think
04:36the whole thing was, I see why fans say it's a little bit rigged and you can, and you, and
04:41I would, I don't disagree with you. I mean, I, it is what it is. I think that for the
04:45most
04:46part, they tried to keep it as deep air is even as fair as possible. It was a couple of
04:50little wrenches that was thrown in there that was kind of messed up. They kind of messed
04:54the whole thing up. But after the Saturday thing, it's just, it's hard to get this fan base
05:00to believe in that guy when he looked as bad and then had the press get post game comments
05:05that he had, but I'm a guy that I believe in second and maybe even third chances. He's
05:13going to be the starting quarterback. It don't matter how much we complain about it. It don't
05:17matter how much people call in and complain about it. They don't like it. It's not going
05:20to change the fact that he will be the starting quarterback for Jacksonville due to the fact
05:24that I'm a Cleveland Browns fan. I'm a root for it. So what was your take on my emotions
05:31got the best of me when he said that today? And by the way, I give him credit and I
05:36do
05:36give the Browns credit for putting him back out there today after naming him the starting
05:39quarterback, knowing what had happened in that press conference on Saturday.
05:45I mean, I said it on post game. I said, this was a guy that has let this build up
05:51and he
05:52couldn't hold it anymore. He had to get it out. The problem is this. He should have said
05:56this a long time ago. I mean, it's the thing is that people think that football players are
06:01not human. Yeah. They got feelings. This feeling got hurt a bunch of times. Of course it has
06:07not gone the way anybody thought it would. And everybody is stressed out about it. But
06:12instead of putting it off and acting like none of that ever happened, you address it, be
06:16human. People can sympathize with that. But the fact that you try to play it so cool this
06:21whole time and then you just let it explode and just talk bad about the fans, that's not the way
06:25to go about it. And it's going to be hard to get them back. They do say when it cures
06:29it all,
06:30though. But I don't know. You shouldn't have really opened up that bag because now everybody
06:34knows that you hear the boos and the boos get to you. And if they want to get to you,
06:39they're going to come to the stadium and boo even louder. You thought 4,000 people was bad
06:43when you see a sold out crowd to boo you. So I don't think he should have even opened that
06:50bag,
06:51but you know what? He's human. I get it. You're dealing with a lot. Things aren't going well.
06:57You didn't play well. You got fans booing you. You don't know what's going on behind the scenes
07:01in his personal life. It's a lot of stuff that these players have to deal with. And he just
07:05lashed out and it was the wrong time to do it.
07:08Tyvus, how do you think his comments on Saturday went over in the locker room, go over in the
07:13locker room? And what do you think the players think about the decision that was announced
07:17today? I mean, I'm sure players in the locker room, they don't agree with booing either. I mean,
07:23I think every player would be like, yeah, I don't know why y'all booing him like that.
07:27Because the thing is they see him every day. So they see the work that he puts in, you know,
07:31and this is a whole different offense. You know, a lot of those players is new. They wasn't here
07:36for the beginning of Deshaun and all of the things that Deshaun has gone through. A lot of people don't
07:41know about that because they weren't on this roster. So they're seeing the new version,
07:45the one that he spoke about, the one that he lashed out about, the guy that's doing the
07:49charity work, the guy that's being a good teammate, the guy that's showing up at the
07:52building every day. That's the only version of Deshaun they know. So when they hear him
07:56boo, I think the viral video of Denzel Boston kind of tells you what it is. Everybody think
08:01it was because of a throw. No, Denzel Boston turned around because he was like, why y'all
08:04booing him? Like, what's going on there? So I think that they don't know the history. So
08:09they probably on his side, like, you know, I see a guy that comes to work every day,
08:13he's a good teammate, good to me. I don't understand why everybody's booing him. So
08:17I think they understand why he feels the way he feels about the boos.
08:22Uh, I just, I just, I do agree with it. It's hard to get behind it. Yeah. It's hard
08:29to get behind it for sure. But what are we going to, Andy, what are we going to do?
08:33Oh, no, you're right. You're going to hope Taylor and Green comes on strong.
08:36Listen to him.
08:40You're going to sit here and be mad. You can say what you want to say. You can do what
08:44you want to do. At the end of the day, against Jacksonville on whatever day that is, he is
08:49jogging out there. It is what it is.
08:52It is. You're right. I just don't ever remember you getting booed anywhere. I remember the
08:56massive cheers in Bedford and Ohio State for you.
08:59Well, you know, I try to, I try to do the right thing, you know, and I try to go
09:03out and
09:03give my all, you know, and I try to be authentic with people, you know, like I'll, it's not
09:07something that I let build up. I kind of, I don't have a problem getting in front of
09:11a microphone and telling everybody how I feel and what's going on because I'm comfortable
09:15in my life, you know, and I'm, and I can be open to the world like that, you know?
09:20So since you're doing radio shows, it would be bad if you weren't comfortable doing it.
09:24But I thought Jeff brought up a good point. And I think you're probably one of the only
09:27people we can ask, especially right now about how this actually plays in locker room. Like it
09:31doesn't, does it pay to take a side if you're in the locker room, if there's a two quarterback
09:36competition, I mean, you've got to worry about yourself. It's your job, right? And so, you
09:41know, we're sitting here and somebody said early today, well, Deshaun's really well liked
09:45in the locker room. And I'm like, is that true? Is that not true? And does that matter?
09:50Because it's a business at the end of the day.
09:53I mean, I mean, you talking to a guy who was in the court, I had a quarterback battle in
09:58college between my roommate and a guy that we all hung out with JT, like all three of
10:03us was all cool, close. I wasn't, I didn't feel conflicted because as a, I mean, as an
10:11offensive guy, maybe that they have their preference, you know, they got who they might
10:16be Bob with, who they might be feel like got a stronger connection with as a defensive
10:20player. For me, it didn't matter. My job was to play defense. No matter who was out there,
10:25I told them, I told them my grandma could go play quarterback. That's not going to
10:29affect my, what I got to do anyway. So it doesn't matter.
10:32It's not like you're going to drop one of their interceptions in practice to make them
10:36look better, right?
10:37No, no, I'm not doing that. I'm going to, I'm going to pick it off and then I'm going
10:40to punt the ball to make it to demoralize.
10:46No, but I think that as fans though, I do understand why we're upset. I really do because
10:52it did the after Saturday and how everything went Saturday. He, you thought he kind of
10:57just kind of canceled itself out. You know, this is a guy that said, I don't even know
11:01how I'm going to bounce back from the fans boring and all of those things. So it kind
11:05of made it seem like he was emotionally weak. He was mentally weak and he kind of checked
11:10out with the Cleveland Browns. I mean, he referred to them as that fan base, not my fan base.
11:15So it kind of seemed like he was detached from the situation. So I understand how fans feel
11:20and I, and I agree with them. I a hundred percent agree with them, but I just feel
11:23like at this point, if you're a Browns fan, the decision's been made. It's nothing we
11:27can do about it. You know, although none of us agree with the decision, it's been made
11:32and there's nothing we can do about it.
11:34There you go. All right, Tyvus, we will talk to you on Thursday. Jeff, we'll talk to you
11:37in the post-game show and I'll talk to you during the pregame show. Looking forward
11:41to working with you on Thursday. You're the greatest. Thank you, Tyvus Paul.
11:44I appreciate that. Go back for Bearcats, by the way.
11:46There you go.
11:47There you go. All right. Bye, Tyvus.
11:48Thanks, buddy.
