00:00Super Bowl Super Browns!
00:06Yeah!
00:08We got our quarterback.
00:10Yeah, we do.
00:11All right.
00:11Let's go!
00:14Hell yeah, brother.
00:16Don't call it a comeback.
00:18Literally don't.
00:19It's probably going to last two weeks.
00:21You think it lasts the whole two weeks?
00:23We'll see.
00:24Everybody kept saying Shador week three.
00:27I'm like, Shador and Relief week two?
00:30Ooh.
00:33Honestly, that'd probably be my...
00:34It's Tampa.
00:35That would probably be my bet if I were...
00:39Is this because Deshaun plays poorly or he gets banged up again?
00:43I mean, either are possible.
00:45But him playing poorly leads to him getting banged up, too.
00:48Bad quarterbacks have a tendency to get injured quicker.
00:51Well, if you're mad at the Browns, I'm about to give you something,
00:54I mean, downright salacious for you.
00:58Because, like, if he has to get pulled in week two, you know they play week two.
01:03So, that guy who's pretty famous for yelling things from the sidelines at another team.
01:09Oh, boy!
01:10He has not grabbed his crotch and pointed at the other team in what?
01:13Like, a decade.
01:14Yeah.
01:15Good.
01:16Doesn't mean he's not...
01:17Doesn't mean he's ain't thought about it.
01:18Well, think about it.
01:19Don't mean he's not going to pull that move again.
01:21I think about his perspective, right?
01:22He's trying to do everything he can to get a contract.
01:25Who?
01:26Baker?
01:28And...
01:29If they're boat racing the Browns and he does something like that and he's jawing up 10 million more,
01:34there you go.
01:35That's a leader.
01:37Oh, boy.
01:39So, there you go.
01:42I don't think anybody was surprised.
01:44They were just kind of mad that it actually happened.
01:48Oh, I think there were people surprised.
01:50Really?
01:51I mean, remember...
01:52Guys, you've been listening to us since January when he got the job.
01:55We did the phone thing.
01:58It was there.
01:59It was...
01:59I didn't make it up.
02:00That's not how yesterday's show went, though, or any of the feeling between the end of the
02:05press conference is Saturday and, what, 9.58 or whatever time this afternoon came out.
02:11We got off the air at, like, 9.54 and it came out at, like, 9.55.03.
02:16I was like, really?
02:18Fine.
02:20Yeah, I mean, we've been...
02:22Like, I've never been like, oh, we're getting text and made it up.
02:26Like, no, that happened with the day they were hiring Todd Munkin.
02:30And they're like, he likes Watson.
02:32Okay.
02:34And we said that in January.
02:35So, we've been trying to prepare everybody since January that Watson's going to have the
02:39leg up on this.
02:40Yeah, it's just...
02:40And I thought he always did.
02:41It's just how...
02:43It's not what I wanted, but...
02:44It's just how Saturday played out and then to hear the fans.
02:47Oh, yeah, that too.
02:48And then the fans.
02:49And, yeah, we had, like...
02:50We had, like, one guy yesterday call and he wasn't even really in Deshaun's corner, but
02:57he was like, all right, well, at least give him a shot on the road.
03:01And we're like, man, I can't fathom him playing well now.
03:06He is so mentally fried and broken.
03:08You're going to have to play him on a different planet in front of an entirely different species
03:12to actually...
03:14Like, honestly, I think he's afraid of his own shadow out there.
03:16He admitted the self-doubt in his comments.
03:19He admitted the self-doubt.
03:21You know, Todd Munkin was very optimistic over the last few weeks.
03:26But even Todd was like, all right, we got to get over the boos.
03:28I mean, we just...
03:29We got to get over that stuff.
03:30We got to play football.
03:31If you play bad, you're going to get booed.
03:32Yeah, I don't know if you can, but...
03:34I don't know if that's going to happen.
03:36Because he was upset.
03:37We'll talk about that.
03:38Because, I mean, I'm a pretty...
03:41I don't like to hold grudges.
03:45But...
03:48I'll just explain myself later on in the show about it.
03:50Because I don't think it's going to go the way...
03:57When I first heard the words, I go, okay, he's apologizing.
03:59I go, no, don't do that.
04:01But more on that coming up around 6.23.
04:03So, your first reaction.
04:04I guess I was a little bit surprised at some of the surprise that was there.
04:09Not that I, you know, I'm a big supporter of it.
04:12I'm not.
04:14I'd like somebody to look forward to.
04:18And I'd like to give a chance to Shador Sanders.
04:20And then probably...
04:23I haven't meant words about this.
04:25Like, I don't think that he's the savior at the position.
04:27I'd like to give him the chance to be.
04:29And I don't think he will be.
04:30But if he's not, that's what the draft picks are for.
04:33Yeah.
04:34And I don't think any of this is getting put back on the right track until April.
04:40That's where it is.
04:41Well, just listening to our station and consuming everything that I could possibly consume.
04:48And, yeah, the text threads, which went from animosity to pain to then jokes.
04:58It ran the gamut of everything yesterday just to see how kind of everybody was in unison.
05:04And so rarely, Nick Wilson was all over this.
05:07He's like, so rarely in anything in life today is everybody on the same page.
05:10And in this case, everybody was on the same page.
05:14There were a couple people who kind of...
05:18They went after us during the show yesterday.
05:20They got in my...
05:21Not mentions.
05:22It was a lot of emails, a lot of DMs, things like that.
05:25Like, well, he's the quarterback of the Browns.
05:27You got to get behind the quarterback of the Browns.
05:28I'm like, yeah, I guess I want him to do well.
05:31But I don't think he's...
05:31I didn't even say much of that, to be honest.
05:32I don't think he's going to do well.
05:33I don't think it's going to happen.
05:35But here's the thing about that.
05:36I actually saw most of the opposite.
05:38I saw people, while they didn't come out and say it,
05:42I mean, they were saying they were going to root against him
05:43and they were going to boo him, even though it's on the road and everything.
05:46But from the confines of their own home or from a bar or whatever,
05:51well, a lot of people said they weren't even going to watch.
05:53You know, we'll see that we've been hearing that forever.
05:56But I actually think this is different.
05:58I actually think this is something that's going to be fairly unique in NFL circles
06:02that I think a part, and it's a minority part of the fandom,
06:11but it's statistically significant.
06:13We'll leave it at that.
06:15I think people will be rooting against their favorite football team
06:18in those first two games.
06:19And I think that is a really unique way to start a season.
06:23We've seen it at the end of seasons.
06:25I've rooted against the Browns by the end of a football season.
06:28I've been rooting for them to tank by the end of a season
06:32when I feel like there's nothing redeemable about a season.
06:35This, in weeks one and week two,
06:38I think there are Browns fans that are going to be sitting there
06:42hoping he fails, and if it helps the cause, hoping the team fails.
06:48And that does not happen in the NFL.
06:50I don't want the team to fail.
06:51I really don't even want him to fail.
06:54But I have a feeling I know how it's going to go,
06:57so what's the point of me trying to drag along something
06:59I don't think is going to happen?
07:00Well, I made the case a week and a half ago, or it was last week,
07:05that you should root for him to succeed,
07:06because then it means the rookies and the offensive line,
07:09you've got the right coach, and Andrew Barry's building the right way.
07:12But it doesn't matter right now.
07:13No, because no one trusts it.
07:15Nobody trusts it. Nobody can see that.
07:17Nobody would bet on that.
07:18It's not that. It's not just that.
07:20Like, listen, you and I have had huge, huge conversations, and nobody believes us.
07:27And I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it.
07:29Like, no one believed us about Barry being the one who spearheaded it,
07:32going down there back in 2021 and kicking the tires on him,
07:37until it became fact.
07:39And no one's going to believe us that this isn't a directive of ownership.
07:44Like, I've seen that so many times over and over and over again.
07:48And I've stated my case so many times over and over again.
07:51And you're a master at trying to poke holes in things that I say,
07:54and you've poked no holes in it where I go,
07:56you've got this stadium that you're building that you want people to put deposits down on PSLs
08:02that are going to be very expensive.
08:04And you're building this thing, it's going to be pretty nice,
08:08it's going to be pretty opulent, you want people to look forward.
08:11I just don't think it'd be good business to roll out Deshaun Watson and make everybody upset.
08:17I mean, apparently there were people over at 5 saying that people were driving by,
08:21screaming things at the building as they were driving by yesterday.
08:25People calling the building yesterday.
08:29Yeah, I don't think that they would like to do that over $40 million,
08:33considering you're building a facility that's $2.6 billion.
08:36Okay?
08:38But nobody believes us on that, Anthony.
08:41They're just not.
08:42Okay?
08:43And I think the way they look at it is that he can't just not be good.
08:49He has to be terrible because they want to teach a lesson that you can't bring him back at all.
08:55This is our last year, June 1st and next year, he's done.
09:00We're done with this.
09:01And they want to make sure.
09:02Because I think the possibility of him playing any bit decent, you still don't trust it.
09:08I don't trust him.
09:09Like, if he went out there and he throws for three touchdowns against Jacksonville
09:12and they win 24-6 or something like that, do you trust him?
09:17Or will you in the back of your head go,
09:18that's great, Super Bowl, Super Browns, we're excited about this win.
09:21But I think by Wednesday, we're going to go, is this week one sloppiness?
09:25Will he come back to earth against Tampa Bay?
09:28Like, it is nonstop.
09:31It is a road that I just don't think anybody's ever going to go down until he would absolutely do
09:39it.
09:39And the guy says he doesn't know if he can overcome negativity in the press conference yesterday.
09:44So I don't believe that he can do it.
09:46The fans don't believe that he can do it.
09:48And the fans want to make damn sure that nobody gets any ideas of bringing him back.
09:54Because it would be the last year.
09:56And if you're not in a position to take somebody new,
09:59or you're not in a position to put somebody else in there that people don't just dislike,
10:04then we're going to make the same old mistakes.
10:06And I think that that's what people are thinking.
10:09The worse he does, the easier it is to finally say, enough is enough.
10:14They thought enough was enough two years ago.
10:18The shark just went out in the water, and now he's back.
10:20And here we are.
10:21And I think people are just going, no, no.
10:24Like, not only does he have to do poorly, for the good of the future of the franchise,
10:28I think people are thinking he's got to have his nose rubbed in, and he's got to be bad.
10:34And I think that on Saturday, that was their last gasp.
10:37And with the way he played, who am I to say that Bob and Brooke Parker, anybody,
10:42I love to use the words in the cities, that they're wrong.
10:44I mean, he was terrible against third-teamers.
10:46It's hard to fathom.
10:47Well, he's playing with third-teamers.
10:48Yeah, you're still a former MVP candidate.
10:50No, but it was so obvious reading his body language.
10:54You didn't even need the post-game press conference.
10:56And that only was the nail in the coffin.
10:58But if you just watched him play, guys, I was somebody who fantasized about the day
11:04having Deshaun Watson on my football team.
11:07I watched him very closely in college and those early years in Houston.
11:12That's not the same guy.
11:13Like, the confidence is not.
11:15He's broken.
11:16He's completely broken.
11:18If I thought, Kenny, if anybody in this town thought he had anything left at all,
11:21I would be sitting here going, just be patient.
11:25Just wait.
11:26You're not hearing that from me.
11:27And if I was his biggest advocate coming back to Cleveland,
11:30and I'd given up on this a couple years ago,
11:34I couldn't believe that he was making a comeback.
11:37I tried to keep my mind open because I said I was going to have an open mind
11:41coming into this entire quarterback thing that we were walking into.
11:46But, you know, yeah, I heard Zach Jackson on his podcast said,
11:49Deshaun's been a little better than Shador the last three weeks.
11:55Okay.
11:55Where?
11:56Well, in camp, in practice, and in the first preseason game.
12:00Does it really look like that with the throws?
12:02It certainly didn't look like that in the last preseason game.
12:04That's what I'm saying.
12:05And then, you know, people were documenting the Ducks yesterday,
12:08things like that, which brought in another question,
12:11because we're saying, I think they must have made this decision
12:14for things we can't see, things in the huddle.
12:17Well, you know, the word at training camp has been operations.
12:23Functioning offense, operational, this, that, and the other.
12:26Then Shador had a great operations day in the game.
12:30But then Todd said the game, he wasn't going to take as much stock in the game
12:33as he was the joint practice.
12:35Well, then, and I don't want to say too many things at once here,
12:37because I've got to space it out through a four-hour show.
12:39But then when we find out that Shador is not going to play on Thursday.
12:43Just incredible.
12:44Like, me and you almost didn't believe it.
12:46You were asking, wait, did that really go down?
12:48And I'm like, I saw that, but you never know.
12:51But we didn't really talk about it that much yesterday on the phone.
12:56It doesn't make any sense to me, other than I know that the preseason
13:00is not the same preseason from our youth,
13:02when you would have your standard operating procedure,
13:06and then the third game would be the dress rehearsal,
13:08but then there was a fourth game.
13:09I think some people, if they had a Hall of Fame game, had five games.
13:12It's just so crazy to me how different, you know,
13:15the training camp stuff is today than it used to be.
13:19But why aren't we seeing Shador Sanders on Thursday night?
13:23Well, the only thing...
13:24There's nothing that he could get better at.
13:26What helps with operations is...
13:28Excuse me.
13:28What helps with operations is actually being in a huddle.
13:31Right.
13:31And getting guys lined up.
13:33Right.
13:34So...
13:34And if you're putting them with...
13:36Well, none of the starters and other guys who could play
13:38during the season are playing.
13:39So you're putting them with third-teamers.
13:41You don't want to do that, but you did that with the guy
13:42you're going to start the season with.
13:43Why did you play Deshaun in the second half?
13:45Right.
13:46Why did he start the second half in a situation where I think, A,
13:50they were just going to run the football and get out of dodge
13:52and then the fans and Deshaun were not going to let that happen
13:56because they were going to become part of the story
13:58and he was going to become the story.
14:02Unless he felt he just had to get them...
14:04Maybe he just felt he had to get them out there and deal with...
14:06He knew there were going to be boos and he just had to deal with it.
14:08So thinking this, he could rinse it out of the system now?
14:11Yeah, maybe that's part of it.
14:12Yeah, I think this one's going to linger.
14:14Oh, it's going to...
14:15Yeah, there's a stench in there, man.
14:17And those windows are sealed tight.
14:21It's a stink.
14:23All right.
14:24Here you go.
14:25He's your starter.
14:25We got our quarterback.
14:26A competition has been won.
14:28Yes, we certainly have.
14:30What a competition it was.
14:32and we're going to blend your Riley alers when we get a walk.
14:32Let's take a stepover right here, there's a lot of fun right now.
14:32And, so, I'll see, pretty much better.
