00:00The Miami Dolphins are going to look like this year.
00:03What do you think they're going to look like?
00:07Well, I think we all have to look at this team.
00:10And if you actually look closely at what the new general manager
00:14and the front office have done in the offseason,
00:16they're really not playing for 2026.
00:19You can't say it.
00:20No one's going to go say they're going to tank.
00:21But all the roster moves they have made have been for the future
00:25where they've gotten a couple of young guys in
00:28and signed for the next couple of years.
00:30You know, A-Chain and a couple of the other guys are signed.
00:32And then they went and kind of signed a whole bunch of free agent
00:35to one-year contracts.
00:37Want to see these veterans go out there and prove themselves
00:39with a one-year contract, maybe keep them around next year.
00:42But really, they're focusing on 2027 and on.
00:46Because you know this front office, the new head coach,
00:48they all took over, call it what it is,
00:50a dumpster fire with a salary cap that was unmanageable.
00:52And you have a $100 million dead hit cap on a quarterback
00:55who's going to be the backup at Atlanta.
00:57So I would say for this year, lower those expectations.
01:01I don't think, Dan, I don't think they're the worst team in football.
01:03I think that's going to be Arizona.
01:05But they have, with Halfley there, I think they'll have the ability
01:10to pull a couple of upsets here and there.
01:12They got the Jets twice.
01:13You got the Raiders opening day.
01:15They'll win a couple of games.
01:16But if I was running to the betting wingo,
01:19I would take the over three and a half,
01:21but I would take the under four and a half.
01:22So I have them as a four-win team that is basically going to try hard
01:27because I think they have a no-nonsense coach
01:29and a new GM that is putting a different culture in there.
01:32They're not going to have their coach running around making jokes all day.
01:35They win four to five games to set themselves up for 2027.
01:40Some people say, hey, go ahead and get the one pick
01:42and go get Arch and call it a day.
01:44You know, they like Malik Willis.
01:46The problem is Malik Willis has no weapons other than the guy behind him.
01:49So as a resident Dolphins guy, it's going to be a very painful season.
01:54But what you should look for,
01:56you should look for like the Jacob Rodriguez at linebacker,
01:59how he looks because he's a rookie.
02:01So remember, he's going to be next year.
02:03How the offensive line looks because they got some rookies.
02:05How it will look next year.
02:06Maybe Malik Willis is your guy for next year.
02:09Caleb Duggets over at wide receiver.
02:11Again, a rookie.
02:12So look to the future.
02:15This team is not going to make the playoffs.
02:16They're not going to win nine games and surprise people.
02:20So get that out the window.
02:21I tried telling my 26-year-old cousin,
02:22who still thinks the Dolphins win the Super Bowl every year,
02:25move on to next year.
02:26But in the meantime, see how they play.
02:28You don't want to seem that a team that looks like all these first-round picks,
02:32second-round picks, they all look terrible.
02:34All these free agents look terrible.
02:36Have them at least show a pulse.
02:39David, what's the role of Troy Aikman in the organization?
02:42Is it going to be an ambassador role like Dan Marino had?
02:47Or is he going to be more hands-on when we're talking about potential coaches,
02:52offensive coordinators, or defensive coordinators, personnel decisions?

02:59I don't know his exact role from what they want him to do,
03:02but it already looks like he's more hands-on than Marino is.
03:06Marino obviously was the VP for 24 hours and then stepped back into the ambassador role
03:11and he represents the team and he goes on trips and he's in the locker room and all that.
03:14He has zero say in personnel.
03:16Maybe he's on the field helping the quarterbacks a little bit here or there.
03:19Might go watch some tape in the quarterback room.
03:21I know he did that from time to time.
03:23I don't think Aikman's that guy.
03:25Aikman's not going to be a member of the organization to be down there in the tape room
03:29or to represent the team at the anniversary of the 85 Dolphins-Bears game.
03:35That's not going to be Aikman.
03:36I think Aikman's talking to the GM.
03:38I think Aikman's talking to the head coach.
03:39And Aikman pretty much helped them hire the GM and hire the coach.
03:43I think he's going to be an asset to the organization from a personnel standpoint
03:47because that's what they need.
03:48Marino's never done that except for 24 hours.
03:51So I would separate the two and look at Marino as a figurehead who represents the team
03:56and may be able to help the quarterbacks.
03:58Aikman as a front office guy who is an unofficial front office guy
04:02who's obviously going to be on air every single week,
04:04but talking to the GM about what moves need to be made.
