00:00But some guy put out a study, and they took, yeah, everyone's attacking me because I said
00:05Drake Mason, average quarterback, and this is a one-and-done situation for the New England
00:10Patriots, so I decided to do something I don't like to do, and that's analytical work, because
00:15I believe sports is more of a gut thing than a piece of paper with some numbers on it and
00:21an algorithm on it.
00:22I think analytics have actually killed sports in a lot of ways, and we've taken a gut managerial
00:27and coaching decisions out because, you know, we live and die by the almighty number, right?
00:32So what if I told you that in the postseason, the New England Patriots had 53 total drives
00:39where Drake made a quarterback, and in those 53 drives, if you take the total points they
00:45scored and divide it by drives, that the New England Patriots scored 1.13 points per drive.
00:52Okay.
00:53That's the actual mathematical number.
00:54Now, in a vacuum, that number means nothing, because you've got to compare it to something
00:59else for the number to have meaning.
01:01Fair enough?
01:02Makes sense.
01:02So I went back, and I tried to find what's the last NFL team to be winless, and I found
01:10the 2017 Cleveland Browns.
01:12It's a total random arbitrary pick on my part, but I want to compare the Patriots postseason
01:19to the worst regular season of the last umpteen years.
01:23Fair enough?
01:24Fair.
01:24All right.
01:25So the Patriots postseason, they averaged 1.13 points per drive, okay?
01:32Mm-hmm.
01:32The winless Cleveland Browns, about 10 years ago, averaged 1.22.
01:41Wow.
01:41So the worst football team in the modern era of the NFL had a better offense statistically
01:49than the Drake May-led New England Patriots this entire postseason.
01:55So I'm not cherry-picking one quarter.
01:57I'm not cherry-picking one game.
01:59I'm giving you the four games that Drake May was the starting quarterback in the postseason
02:05for the Patriots was worse than the winless season that the Cleveland Browns had from
02:11an offensive standpoint.
02:13So if you want to use analytics, I'll be the first to tell you, I am not an analytic
02:17guy.
02:18I am a gut guy.
02:19I'm an eyeball test guy.
02:21But a lot of you are like, what are the analytics?
02:23What are the stats?
02:24So I did my homework.
02:26Those are the stats.
02:27So if you're a Patriot fan, for all the nonsense about Drake May's the guy, and Drake May
02:32should be MVP, and Drake May is going to be, you know, Tom Brady 2.0, the stats don't
02:39bear that out.
02:40The stats actually tell a story that our eyes have told us throughout anyway, and that is
02:45this.
02:46Drake May is an average quarterback, and when playing against a good, healthy defense, Drake
02:53May is a below-average quarterback, and that's a fact.
