00:00Joshua Baez, who had such a great minor league season, gets called up to the big leagues.
00:05And Matthew Boyd is not going to sleep well for a long time, Tom, because he saw Baez three times,
00:11gave up three home runs.
00:14It's never happened in the history of baseball that a player would hit three home runs at his major league
00:20debut, let alone hit two.
00:22So, you know, sort of incredible here.
00:24I was watching the last time he came up, and I thought, oh, my gosh, there's no way they're going
00:29to let this guy do this again.
00:30They actually pitched to him, and, you know, he kind of missed the pitch there.
00:35I thought there was a chance that he was going to hit a fourth.
00:37Now, it didn't go anywhere.
00:38It just basically went to the outfield.
00:40But, you know, I guess this is one of those stories to monitor, Tom, because I would say this.
00:46Like, Baez is not Albert Pujols, I don't think.
00:49Like, but sometimes guys do come up and propel a team, and I wonder, and, you know, look, I don't
00:56know what he's going to do,
00:57but I'll certainly have a close eye on this because this is like basically making a trade for a player
01:02if this kid Baez is that good.
01:05I don't know that he is, though.
01:06What do you think?
01:07You know, could he be good over the course of a season, over the course of a career?
01:11You know, those are yet to be seen.
01:13Could he be good for six weeks?
01:16Yeah.
01:16Yeah, we see it all the time where a player comes up or just a player goes on some unbelievable
01:21hot stretch where they just can't miss, essentially,
01:24where they're going to be batting .350 or .400.
01:27They're going to be getting on base.
01:28They're going to be knocking guys in.
01:29They're always going to be productive at the plate.
01:31Could he do that for six weeks?
01:32Yeah, he could.
01:33Could he do that for the entire season?
01:35No.
01:35Or we'd be talking about a generational player that's going to be, you know, Hall of Fame bound as soon
01:40as, you know, he hangs up his cleats,
01:41which I don't think is going to be the case with him.
01:43But the boost that the Cardinals get from him, maybe it's just like a rising tide lifts all ships because,
01:49you know,
01:50they have some talent with young talent with Weatherholt and Jordan Walker finally put together a full season.
01:55Maybe this is just a missing piece to finally put them over the edge because they've been middling for a
02:00while.
02:00So a hot six-week stretch from them could push them into a wild card spot.
02:06Do they do anything beyond that?
02:08Probably not.
02:09But it's at least exciting for the Cardinals to end the season on a high note going into spring training,
02:14knowing they got some pieces that they can really build around.
