00:00One question I have to ask is, and I'm still not sure of this,
00:04great sweep by the Padres over the Marlins on the weekend.
00:08You know, they have, I'll give them credit, heading into the All-Star break,
00:11out of the All-Star break.
00:13They seem to have figured some things out.
00:15But, you know, you know what Preller is.
00:18Is Mason Miller going to be in a Padres uniform?
00:21Is any of that back end of the bullpen going to be in a Padres uniform next week?
00:27I think Mason Miller should be in a Padres uniform if they're trying to compete.
00:31You can't be getting rid of the best part of your team
00:33because it hasn't been the front line pitching.
00:34It hasn't been the offense until as of late.
00:36The offense has certainly turned things around in a big way.
00:39But for a while, the Padres were the bottom five, bottom three offenses in the MLB.
00:44And Mason Miller was the best thing the Padres had going for them.
00:47To trade him away signals to me that they are looking for a rebuild.
00:51There are only so many elite closers in the game and getting rid of one.
00:54Granted, they would get a haul back from him, from any team.
00:57They would get, I would say, three or four top 25 prospects, top 50 prospects
01:02from a given team, probably a relief pitcher, you know, active in the MLB.
01:07You get a lot of players back, and it would be great to do so.
01:10But I don't know what the path of the team would be
01:13if you were two games out of the wild card and then trading away your best asset.
01:18It would be tough.
01:19I mean, they have, let's say, they do have some availability in that back end.
01:24They got one of the best back ends in the bullpen that teams come postseason play.
01:29We know this would kind of overpay.
01:31So I think there is a good opportunity.
01:33And by the way, Mason Miller's on a contract to what?
01:362029?
01:38It doesn't, you know, so they're not really like they have to unload some gaudy contract
01:43or anything along those lines.
01:45But now might be the time, if you're hitting the reset button for the Padres,
01:50now might be the time, which brings us back to Scooble.
01:54And if I hear one more person mention the Dodgers, I'm going to scream here.
01:58But I'm not sure what the Dodgers are thinking about doing.
02:02I guess what a looming lockout may be from the Dodgers.
02:06What do I care?
02:07How much money I spend or what I go out and get, really, at this point?
02:11With the CBA and the potential changes that could be coming
02:15or the rumor changes between a salary cap and a salary floor
02:19and no more deferred money.
02:22Because when we think of deferred money, we only think of the Dodgers.
02:24We don't think of other teams.
02:26It's like, oh, the Royals have found this way to get past the red tape
02:29and do deferred money.
02:30No, everyone thinks of the Dodgers.
02:31So you might as well all go chips to the middle
02:33because you don't know how much you're going to be able to do
02:36in the coming years with these contract situations and contract footnotes
02:41that you're adding to a lot of these players.
02:43You might as well take one more swing at it.
