00:00Browns get the boots put to them.
00:02Actually, not the Browns.
00:04The Browns backups got the boots put to them
00:06by the Chicago Bears yesterday, 34-10.
00:09Who cares about the final score?
00:11We saw what we needed to see.
00:14I do have to correct Todd Munkin this morning, though.
00:18The first quarter was fun, coach.
00:20The final three quarters, not so much.
00:23It did, though.
00:24Shador Sanders there, you heard him in the open line
00:26with Deshaun and Todd Munkin after yesterday's preseason lid lifter.
00:32But it's Daryl Ryder, Nick Padone, Sunday show.
00:37With you till noon.
00:38We saw what we needed to see in that first quarter, Nick.
00:42And I liked what I saw.
00:45Browns starters, very good.
00:48Rest of Browns team, not so good.
00:54And it felt like, and people were coming after me on X yesterday
00:58because I, is that first quarter's going, and it's going, like, really good.
01:03And I'm sitting there, you know, they run the end-around touchdown
01:05with KC Concepcion, and I'm pulling up the video from practice
01:08and reposting that.
01:10And, like, I thought I was watching practice.
01:12I saw all, like, every play they ran in the first quarter,
01:16I saw at least 12 times during training camp so far
01:22because they've practiced them.
01:23And so I'm like, oh, it's like I'm watching a training camp practice out here.
01:27And everyone took that as I was ripping the Browns.
01:30I wasn't.
01:32Just saying.
01:33Seeing all this stuff.
01:34It's working.
01:35It's nice to see that it was working in a game setting
01:38because if I had a dollar for every time I watched the Browns run a play
01:42in training camp and then I sit there and say,
01:44yeah, in a game that play ain't working.
01:45And they ought to scrap that.
01:47I would not be sitting here.
01:48I'd be on a beach somewhere.
01:50Because the Browns often practice plays that end up not working.
01:54Not the case yesterday, especially in that first quarter.
01:58Love what I saw.
02:00But we learned, I think our eyes got opened a little bit.
02:04This team not nearly as deep as we think.
02:08No, definitely not.
02:10And I think that goes offensively and defensively,
02:14which I know everybody's expecting this defense to be really good this season.
02:18I do think the starting level defense,
02:22which some of those guys we didn't even see yesterday,
02:24some of the defensive starters,
02:25Denzel Ward never saw the actual field.
02:29But the reserves, there's not much.
02:31And the defensive secondary yesterday,
02:33they needed four different undrafted free agent rookies.
02:38And two of those guys got hurt.
02:40So the injuries have certainly stockpiled heading into week number two of a training camp as well.
02:46That was a big takeaway that I had from yesterday.
02:49But yeah, Daryl, first quarter was fun.
02:51The rest of the game, not so much.
02:55First quarter was fun, though.
02:56I watched the fun for the quarter of them.
02:57The whole time, I'm like, is this thing over yet?
02:59Is it over yet?
03:00We saw what we needed to see.
03:02It felt slow, didn't it?
03:03Yeah, it felt like it took forever.
03:06We're going to get into Deshaun Watson, Shador Sanders, what we liked, what we didn't like.
03:14I'm just going to forget that Dylan Gabriel is on this football team.
03:17Dude, could we, you know...
03:19Can we just be done with that?
03:20All three guys had turnovers.
03:22So we've got to be fair.
03:24You know, Watson fumbled and lost it.
03:26Shador threw a really bad interception.
03:28But dude, where was Dylan Gabriel even going with that ball?
03:32Like, I watched that back last night, you know, well after the game had ended a couple of times.
03:38And Shador, obviously, post-game gave a little bit of context to his that, you know, the read was right
03:43and the ball slipped.
03:44Obviously, the ball can't slip.
03:46Certainly not like that.
03:47That was quite the slip there.
03:50But where was Gabriel going with that one?
03:53I don't know.
03:55I just...
03:56He's a practice quarterback.
03:57He's a seven on...
03:58You know what?
03:59You want to know what Dylan Gabriel should go do with his life right now?
04:03He should go do flag football.
04:06I'm dead serious.
04:07He would kill it in flag football.
04:10Those flag football people don't like hearing that, though.
04:14They think that they're like their own...
04:16Well...
04:17Like whoever the quarterback of the flag football team is right now would be very offended that you said that
04:23Dylan Gabriel should go do that.
04:24Well, there's no offensive and defensive line in flag football like there is in the NFL.
04:29See, Dylan Gabriel is the quintessential seven on seven quarterback.
04:33He looks amazing in seven on seven.
04:37He carves it up in seven on seven.
04:41Put an offensive line in front of him and a defensive line and he's too short to see anything.
04:45What's crazy, though, like he wasn't this comedically bad where like every time he's on the field, you do kind
04:52of have to giggle a little bit.
04:54And I'm not trying to...
04:55I'm not making fun of him.
04:56It is just like...
04:57Like at some point...
04:58It is comedically bad.
04:59At some people...
04:59At some point you have to have like apathy for the guy.
05:02Like, you know, he's out there doing...
05:04Like he is out there competing at the absolute highest level, but he is so severely overmatched, especially considering that
05:11they drafted him in the top 100 last year.
05:13But I do wonder...
05:14They used the top 100 pick on this guy.
05:17Darryl, because like at Oregon it didn't look like this.
05:19Like, I mean, like you knew that he was smaller at Oregon, but like it didn't look like...
05:24Like again, the question bears repeating.
05:27Where was he even going with that football yesterday?
05:29There was not even a receiver in the general vicinity.
05:33I can't even be mad at him because he just can't see.
05:37He was trying to throw that ball to Hammond, Indiana, where they're building that new stadium.
05:41We think they're going to build the new stadium.
05:44But like, you can't see.
05:45I can't hate on the guy.
05:47I mean, the good Lord did not bless him with an extra four inches of height.
05:52Like, I just...
05:55He's a great...
05:57Here's the thing.
05:58Like, he's a great kid.
06:00He's a good dude.
06:02It's just...
06:03This isn't for him.
06:05It really isn't.
06:07And there's just too much traffic out there in front of it.
06:10He can't see.
06:11It's like, throw me out.
06:12I can't see either.
06:14I do have a suggestion.
06:16And I don't think my suggestion is going to happen in week two of the preseason.
06:20I think I'm going to have to wait until week three of the preseason for my suggestion.
06:24All right.
06:25Dude, I want to see what Talon Green could do.
06:28Well, so right now, Talon Green is just running the pass rush dummy QB stuff.
06:33Okay, yeah, that's cool, whatever.
06:35But, like, in mop-up time...
06:36No, it's not.
06:36He legit takes the snap, does the three, five, seven-step drop back, and just kind of stands there.
06:44But that's how desperate I am here.
06:45Because, like, come mop-up time, I'm watching Dylan Gabriel throw his subway, you know, foot-long sandwiches
06:52to Chicago Bears' fourth-string defensive backs.
06:56Like, at least Talon Green's 6'6".
06:59I was listening to the Bears' broadcast, just because sometimes I do like to, like, listen
07:04in to what the other announcers are saying about, like, their team, but also the Browns,
07:09and obviously figured they'd be talking a lot about the Browns and the quarterback competition.
07:12They suggested the Browns try Talon Green at tight end.
07:17There was, like, a very serious suggestion that was made on their broadcast.
07:20Well, that's not the first time that a positional change has come about.
07:27I remember we had the conference call with him after he was drafted, and somebody asked
07:32him about being a receiver or a tight end, and he's like, absolutely not, I'm a quarterback.
07:37And then the Browns, I forget if it was one of the scouts or if it was Andrew Barry, but
07:44they were asked as well after that selection.
07:47He said, no, we drafted him to be a quarterback.
07:49Here's my thought on it, though.
07:52Do you let him try to be a quarterback this year, and then if it doesn't go well, and
07:56you get your quarterback in the first round of the draft next year...
07:59Well, he's redshirted this year.
08:01He's made the team, okay, because if they cut him, someone's going to pick him up.
08:05He's made the team.
08:06But the goal here is to just completely redshirt him.
08:12Even in the preseason?
08:13Yes.
08:14Like, I've got a little bit of curiosity just on, like, what he could do.
08:17Even with, and I get what you're saying, he has had literally no action at training camp.
08:22I've been out there, I've seen, like, he is doing pretty much nothing out there.
08:26He's getting the Shador Sanders treatment this year.
08:28I just have a lot of curiosity of, like, from a physical standpoint, what does that look like?
08:34How different could that look from the other options that they put out there?
08:38Because, frankly, and Watson, you know, was okay.
08:41I'm not going to say, you know, the first quarter was good.
08:44He didn't attempt to pass longer than 10 yards.
08:48So I can't sit here and bring out my Deshaun Watson pom-poms.
08:52I'm not buying my four hat today.
08:55Because it was...
08:57That's a four trucker hat.
08:59Thank you very much.
08:59It was okay.
09:00It was okay.
09:02Like, but I'm not necessarily moved.
09:07I would just be curious to see Taylor Greene in a preseason game.
09:10That's all I'm saying.
09:11I wish we could take Dylan Gabriel and put him in Taylor Greene's body.
09:16Then we might have a quarterback.
09:19Yeah.
09:19And I'm...
09:20You'd be onto something there.
09:21I know.
09:22I wish that could happen.
09:24Dylan's a good kid.
09:25Like I said, just the NFL ain't for him.
09:27It just isn't.
09:29Or he is a guy that you want in your quarterback room, but you don't want him to play.
09:35But that's like what you've got to start to be concerned about with the Dylan Gabriel conversation.
09:40The Bears didn't even have their practice squad on the field when he took the field.
09:45Like, he had...
09:46They had the guys that would be bagging groceries in three weeks.
09:48And by the way, like Tyson Bajan looked pretty good.
09:51And who's the other dude that we used to have?
09:55Case Keenum looked pretty good.
09:56Case Keenum was way too good for the second half.
09:59Yeah.
10:00Yeah.
10:00It was insane.
10:01And then I watched Dylan Gabriel go out there.
10:03Put some respect on that name, okay?
10:05That's Case Keenum you're talking about.
10:07And then I watched Dylan Gabriel go out there and do what he did.
10:10Like, if you're Dylan Gabriel or just...
10:12If you're a Browns fan, the thing that I think we've all kind of got to be worried about with
10:16Dylan
10:16is we knew that that was never going to be a starting caliber quarterback.
10:20Like, as soon as they made that announcement, I think everybody kind of was like, what?
10:25That's not going to be an answer in terms of a franchise quarterback.
10:29By the way, I can confirm.
10:31Yes.
10:32There was an audible what.
10:34But then, Darryl, like, then it was sold to us as, you know, this is somebody that's
10:39incredibly intelligent.
10:40We love the brain.
10:42You know, this could be a 10-year backup in the league.
10:44And that's a good investment in the third round.
10:46You know, that's kind of how it was sold.
10:48I think you kind of got to start to be worried if that could even be the case.
10:52Like, if he could even be a backup quarterback that you could put on the field.
10:55Because you said, you know, maybe he's somebody you like to have in your room, but you never
10:59want him to play.
10:59Hey, well, sometimes backups need to play, and especially in Cleveland, as it pertains
11:04to the quarterbacks, backups almost always play.
11:06So, like, I am starting to get worried about Dylan because every time he does see real game
11:12action, he does look unplayable.
11:14Here's, yeah, and this is the big problem with Dylan Gabriel is you want Andrew Berry's
11:19phone to ring for him, and Dylan, could you help yourself out?
11:25That's all I'm saying.
11:25And I've got a lot of jealousy, by the way, too.
11:27And I'm not going to do I told you so, radio, after week one of the preseason.
11:31I'm not.
11:32But Drew Aller looked pretty good.
11:34Oh.
11:35I'm just saying, you know, their third round pick looked a lot better than my third round
11:39pick.
