00:00Game 6 tonight.
00:03Cavs are going to close out the Pistons. I say yes.
00:06Tone!
00:09I'll just answer the question.
00:10I hope Varden's story yesterday is a little tidbit about a sickness that had been rolling through the locker room.
00:17I hope that that's not a real thing.
00:19Because it needs to be all hands on deck.
00:21Well, how is that not a real thing if Varden wrote about it?
00:23He's not going to put something fake out there.
00:25I hope, let's say, they are exaggerating.
00:28Yeah.
00:28Maybe to...
00:30They made it up that Sam Merrill was like the ultimate warrior when Papa Shango got a hold of him.
00:34I know.
00:36So, I hope that's not the case.
00:37Obviously, the crowd tonight will be in elimination mode.
00:42Like, let's get rid of the Pistons.
00:44But I just haven't seen much of a gap between the two teams.
00:47So, it's hard for me to just come in and say, we've solved the Pistons, we're going to win.
00:52Like, I don't know that that's the case.
00:55They threw a wrinkle at the end of game five with the doubling of Cade.
01:00But can you do that from minute one?
01:03No, I don't think you can.
01:04I kind of feel like that could get their role players going.
01:06Yeah.
01:07So, I'd be nervous about that.
01:08I think you're right.
01:09I think you might be able to do it late in the game if you want to double him again.
01:13Because you don't want Karis LaVar...
01:16He's going to shoot you out of more games.
01:17I forget who we had on, but he said it best.
01:20This guest that I don't remember said it best.
01:22He's going to shoot you out of more games and he's going to win for you.
01:25I think that was probably Danny who said that earlier this week.
01:27It's all mixing together.
01:29But you don't want to get...
01:31Is Duncan Robinson going to give her a go tonight?
01:33I can't.
01:33I can't fathom him missing two games because of this.
01:37His back must be really messed up if he's going to miss a possible game six closeout.
01:40But you don't want to get either of those guys going.
01:42So, I would probably keep it the way it is.
01:45And then second half, fourth quarter, if you're trying to close them out and you want to double K, go
01:49ahead and double K.
01:50I'm not pointing out that I think they're going to win the game by 20 or anything like that.
01:54I'd be shocked.
01:55I think it's going to be a tough game, but I think they're going to win it.
01:58It's at home.
01:59They just play with a different confidence at home.
02:01They play better at home.
02:02Yes, the stomach bug is something that we need to monitor here.
02:05But I still think they're going to win at home because of all those reasons that I've pointed out here
02:09over the time.
02:10And we'll ask Jason Lloyd about those reasons coming up at 9 o'clock right after we give away the
02:14code word for the possibility for you to go to the Berea Rib Fun Pack giveaway.
02:18And you can go to the Berea Rib Cook-Off and Beer Fest.
02:21It'll be a great time for everybody.
02:22It feels like if Donovan Mitchell can just be his normal self, not even legendary, not even superstar, if he
02:28can just be normal, I think they should win the game.
02:32But it's been hard for him.
02:33It's been really hard for him in this series, especially when he's matched up against Thompson.
02:36The schedule came out yesterday.
02:38It is all 1 o'clock games except for the Thursday night game on October 1st against the Pittsburgh Steelers
02:43at home.
02:44Everything else is 1 o'clock.
02:45The floor is yours, Tone.
02:47The floor is yours.
02:48I wondered if we'd get any window because I remember there were a bunch of Shador fans on YouTube saying,
02:54you'll watch the NFL.
02:56You'll know he's starting because the NFL is going to give the Browns primetime games.
03:01I haven't been on our YouTube in quite a while, so I haven't seen them.
03:04Well, remember, there were articles written, and I agreed with them, that part of the reason the draft plummeted in
03:11ratings this year,
03:12did you hear me?
03:12An NFL event plummeted in ratings?
03:14You only hear about it when the NBA does it.
03:15There was no zeal to it.
03:17Was that there was no Shador Sanders.
03:19The Shador Sanders effect.
03:21Where's he going to get drafted?
03:22When's he going to get drafted?
03:23Was it the league conspiring against him?
03:25Storylines.
03:25Let's bring in Mel Kiper.
03:26Let's talk about this.
03:27I mean, that was the majority of that draft a couple of years ago.
03:31You didn't have that this year.
03:32So I agreed.
03:33I thought the draft ratings went down because there was not the equivalent this year.
03:39And they were telling me that you'll see he's going to be the starting quarterback,
03:43and he's going to be the guy because the Browns are going to get primetime games this year because of
03:48it,
03:48especially because he has a huge fan base in Texas, so they don't want the games starting that early.
03:54And sure enough, the schedule comes out, and they only got the one primetime game,
03:58which I think every team has to have a primetime game.
04:00Every other game's at 1 o'clock.
04:02It seems like the league did not factor in the Shador Sanders appeal in any of this.
04:08And I wondered if that was a rude awakening to his either popularity or what the NFL thinks of him.
04:13Maybe the NFL doesn't think he's going to start.
04:15Maybe they don't think he's going to be the guy.
04:17Maybe that's the difference.
04:19Maybe had he have been the guy, the odds-on favorite, then they would have featured them more.
04:24Do they take that into account?
04:24Do they really take that into account?
04:27That if they think he's going to start or not start?
04:29Like, just promoting their most famous players?
04:33I understand that.
04:34And featuring them in their bigger games?
04:36Okay, because I took you as if they're not sure he's going to start.
04:40Like, they don't want to feature Deshaun Watson in primetime.
04:43They're not going to want to do that.
04:44What I'm saying is it's either one or the other, right?
04:46It's either they don't think he's as popular or they don't think he's going to be the starter.
04:50I just don't think they think the team's going to be that good, and they weren't that good last year.
04:53And he is still a – and people are going to get mad, but they're giving you proof.
04:58He's not a number one overall pick.
05:00The Browns went 7-8.
05:02Then they had a number one overall pick play during that 7-8 season,
05:05and then they had a bunch of games that were primetime.
05:07Although Cam Ward was the number one overall pick, and they're not featuring much of him either.
05:12Mendoza, number one pick this year.
05:13Baker did show more promise, and this is only the first year of Mendoza,
05:16and you don't even know if he's starting.
05:18So that's another part of it.
05:19Well, that's true.
05:19Baker showed more promise throughout that rookie there than what Cam Ward just did.
05:24But that does go into effect.
05:29And we got Miles Garrett, too.
05:30There is no doubt.
05:31There is no doubt.
05:32There is part of Shador's fan base that is overzealous and will be upset about it
05:40and then say you're lying about what you're saying.
05:42That's part of it, okay?
05:43They were the ones that told me, though, that they'd get primetime games because of him.
05:47I'm like, hey, but I'm not going to sit there and talk to one corner of one part of the
05:50fan base all the time.
05:52Again, I'm not trying to narrow cast.
05:53I'm talking to all Browns fans.
05:54I think that all Browns fans know that the NFL does not think very much of the football team
05:58because I don't think a lot of Browns fans think that much of the football team.
06:01There's a couple of people who are willing to say 10-7, but these are fans.
06:06I'm excited about them, and I want them to do well.
06:09And right now I'm going, 7-10, 7-10.
06:13The beginning of that schedule being on the road so much, that's pretty tough.
06:17I saw from somebody there's like a 45-day break in between home games at one point at the beginning
06:22of the year.
06:23That's all tough.
06:24We don't know who our quarterback's really going to be, and we're hearing so many reports about who it could
06:29be
06:29that none of us want it to be.
06:31That plays into it.
06:32I've got a bunch of free agents and a rookie on my offensive line, possibly two rookies on my offensive
06:36line.
06:37That makes you a little bit nervous.
06:39You've got two rookie-wide receivers over your guy that you have in Jerry Judy.
06:43That makes you a little bit nervous.
06:44Defense is fine.
06:45Your defense was fine over the last two years.
06:47You won eight games total.
06:49So the league's telling you, if you had it once before, a lot of people want the Browns to win.
06:55A lot of people like the Browns.
06:56So many ways, I hate to say it outside, they felt like that in the 2023 season, in the 2020
07:04season,
07:04it felt to me, especially 2020, like they were like a lovable losers type of thing.
07:10And here we go, the Browns are back, this once great team.
07:14It seemed that a lot of people wanted them to do well.
07:16They have a strong fan base.
07:18But I'm not going to take this as an indictment on anybody but the overall team that you've got only
07:23one o'clock games.
07:25And yeah, you've got Myles Garrett.
07:27But Myles Garrett is going to what?
07:29Try to break his own record?
07:30Okay.
07:31But that doesn't really move the needle for them.
07:34Quarterbacks are going to move the needles.
07:36Great records beforehand are going to move the needles.
07:39Proven coaches with great records and trophies in the case are going to move the needle.
07:43We don't move anything right now.
07:44And that's okay.
07:45I'm fine with them going out and earning primetime games because I don't hate all primetime games.
07:52I just hate Sunday night football.
07:53That's the only thing I don't like them playing.
07:55You've got flex scheduling.
07:56And now, I didn't know this.
07:57Has this always been the case where there is also a flexing in weeks 5 through 10 that is available
08:03through NFL's discretionary policies?
08:06The paragraph is so long.
08:07I mean, it looks like you're buying a new cell phone.
08:10Yeah, there's definitely ways that they can move it around if they do well.
08:12So they can earn it.
08:13Yes.
08:14But I think many, how many Browns fans out there are really looking at the schedule going, 11 and 6?
08:21Not many.
08:22Not many.
08:24You said 6 and 11.
08:26I said 7 and 10.
08:27And I think a lot of Browns fans are like, yeah, that's about it.
08:30And then they're probably mad.
08:31Some are probably happy because you're getting better.
08:33Or they're probably a little bit upset because now you're kind of in the middle of who you're going to
08:39be able to get a quarterback.
08:40What you're going to be able to do in the draft.
08:42Like, that's where I think it is.
08:43I don't.
08:44Is it a rude awakening for some of the fans?
08:47Like, yeah.
08:48Did they?
08:50I was told that, hey, when he starts games for you, it's going to be sellouts.
08:54You're going to be, you know, the cover of every magazine, 60 minutes like he was at Colorado.
09:00And the stadium was empty, like, at the end of the year.
09:02I know it was a losing team, but there was no.
09:04Well, they blame the weather.
09:05Sure.
09:06On that one AI video that someone made of us.
09:08I was like, no, plenty of people come out when the weather's bad.
09:10But there was no Shador effect, at least.
09:14It did not.
09:14It wasn't some, you know, addition to the economy like LeBron James when he was here.
09:19You know, he took over a program.
09:23His father took over a program.
09:24And then he was obviously the biggest part of it.
09:26Like, I'll defend what he did in college to the hilt.
09:28You were still in a P4.
09:30Yeah.
09:30Absolutely.
09:31You took over.
09:31Guys, one of the historically bad programs at 1-11.
09:36They were, I think that they were the worst team in P4 and one of the worst teams in college
09:40football, to be frank with you.
09:42What they did at Colorado, I don't give a damn about how any of this ends or where it
09:46goes or anything.
09:47I will always defend what they did at Colorado.
09:49They did remarkable things there.
09:51To do that in two years, to get the 9-4, I don't give a damn.
09:54If anybody says it any different, they're not watching college football.
09:56They don't know what they're talking about.
09:58That said, that's Folsom Stadium.
10:01That's Boulder, Colorado.
10:03That's college.
10:04That's the NFL.
10:05And you had a little bit of time last year.
10:08And there's a little bit of movement there.
10:10But ultimately, there's not a lot of faith in your team from the NFL.
10:15And so, if there's not a lot of faith in the team from the NFL, it's up to Shador to
10:19gain
10:20the job, win the job, and then to go out and execute and play well and win football games.
10:24And then we can have all the primetime games we want.
10:26But they're going to make you earn it.
10:28If he were a number one overall pick, I would be surprised.
10:32I was surprised when you told me that about Cam Ward, to be frank with you.
10:35But then I looked at what they did last year.
10:37And it's like, he came on a little bit as the year went on.
10:39It was an abomination at the beginning.
10:41They fired the coach, all those things.
10:42So, I can understand it a little bit.
10:44But, like, you kind of got to do it different.
10:48And if you're not a number one overall pick, and they're not excited about where your football
10:52team's going to go, and there's not a lot of push after that, yeah, you're going to be
10:56in a lot of one o'clock games on a Sunday.
10:58And until they win football games, it ain't going to change.
11:03There's very little history that shows you that they're going to be able to do it.
11:06So, I'm sorry, Anthony.
11:07Like, I don't think it's a rude awakening as much as it is just common sense.
11:11And if there's people who just have not been living in reality, boy, they're really going
11:15to hate it if we get to training camp and you know who ends up being the starting quarterback.
11:19You think that people have gotten mad and angry before.
11:22I can't imagine what it's about to be here if they go ahead and they decide to go with
11:26Deshaun Watson.
11:28So, we're only just beginning in this.
11:30But yeah, 7-10, if they finish 7-10 this year, maybe Shador will look good.
11:35Maybe we'll get more primetime games next year.
11:37But if you're still just 7-10 this year, we'll probably have a lot of one o'clock games next
11:40year as well.
11:41It's okay.
11:42I think that they're a good, I think that they're gaining in talent.
11:45They've had one very good draft that we can prove.
11:48I think we have another draft that is exciting.
11:50This draft has been exciting and what's supposed to be a bad draft.
11:53You put some wins together, you play as a team.
11:55We'll get excited and guys, if they're winning one o'clock games, if they're winning the
11:59games, you won't give a damn.
12:01I don't need to play.
12:02Think about Seattle this year.
12:04Seattle was under the radar the entire year.
12:06Not in primetime, not on national TV, not in those windows and then look what happened.
12:11If they beat the Raiders at one o'clock on a Sunday at Huntington Bank Field, it's still
12:15a win.
12:16It still counts.
12:17We'll worry about that next offseason about primetime games.
12:20I'm worried about winning right now.
