00:00All right, so there's a lot here.
00:01Which part?
00:02Well, with the Nathaniel Lowe stuff.
00:04Yeah.
00:04Well, first off, what does it mean for Monsardo is number one.
00:07Yeah.
00:07I would think that's got to be the immediate question.
00:09Number two, it's odd because he, you know, with the Joe Adele stuff,
00:13they went for such a power type thing.
00:15Nathaniel Lowe, historically not the biggest power bat in the world.
00:18Yeah, like a career high at 27 home runs, and that was like three years ago.
00:21But he still is slugging almost 500, which again would be,
00:23I think he's 480 right now is a slugging percentage.
00:26That's like 80 points higher than the second best player in the Guardians
00:28if you take out Joe Adele, who they acquired.
00:30So there's an interesting little divide here.
00:33He's not known for his power in the slightest bit.
00:35He is definitely more of a 7-8 pitch at bat type player
00:38and the guy that the Guardians typically would like.
00:41But ultimately, they're shaking it up, and that's the important part here.
00:45And yeah, does it cost Monsardo his job?
00:46Potentially, I don't know.
00:47We'll see how they shake all this stuff out.
00:49But ultimately, they're making the moves to get better.
00:52They added two different bats that are going to have an actual impact on this team
00:56in addition to adding a left-handed starter.
00:59And so I don't know how you can be mad at this, guys.
01:02You guys wanted to shake up this roster, shake up this team.
01:05They did it.
01:06So we still don't have the price on Nathaniel Lowe getting traded for
01:10by the Guardians from the Reds there.
01:14You mentioned the Monsardo.
01:15What makes the Monsardo part of this and the Reese Hoskins part of this so interesting
01:21is that obviously you can't necessarily send Manzo down to AAA alongside David Fry
01:27because you don't want to impact the bats of Ralphie Velasquez.
01:31So is there another trade to come?
01:33I know it was Nightingale made sure to let everyone know,
01:37you know, they always do kind of sneak one under the radar.
01:40They being Major League Baseball, sneak a couple trades under the radar as well.
01:43Yeah, I mean, no, definitely.
01:45And obviously, there's just a lot of different routes that they can take this, right?
01:49There really is.
01:50And so it'll be interesting to see where they go.
01:53But, you know, Nathaniel Lowe, that's – one point was a gold glover.
01:57At one point won a Silver Slugger Award.
01:59At one point won a World Series with the Rangers.
02:01Like, he's been around the block for a bit, but he's accomplished a lot.
02:04Well, and you've got two rentals, one in Foster Griff and the other in Nathaniel Lowe.
02:10So you're not necessarily blocking people long-term from this.
02:13But you are – again, like, I still don't have the highest hopes for this team
02:16because the way they played, you've got 36 games to make me look like a fool, though.
02:22Yeah, I mean, you're at least giving yourself a little bit of a chance.
02:24Again, it doesn't mean – you know, they didn't acquire three different versions of,
02:28you know, two Babe Ruths and then a Cy Young.
02:31That's not who that is.
02:32But it's just such a refreshing moment based off of what we've seen historically from this team.
02:36And the idea that Antonetti and Co. are involved in these trades
02:40and are actively making moves and trying to get better, I just – I can appreciate that.
02:44It's what I've always wanted out of them.
02:46216-474-0092.
02:48The Guardians, as of right now, have made four deadline acquisitions.
02:52There was the Bo Naylor trade over the weekend that netted them one of the Brewers relievers.
02:56There was Foster Griffin earlier today – actually, earlier this hour.
03:00Joe Adele earlier today.
03:02And then just moments ago, Nathaniel Lowe, first baseman from the Reds there.
03:06Uh-oh.
03:07Uh-oh.
03:08Now, you thought maybe you'd count him out after the 5-10 stretch.
03:11He was supposed to be joining us tomorrow at 420.
03:16And we still plan on that, by the way.
03:17Yeah, we will double dip this week.
03:19We have that baked in the books there.
03:20This will not be in place of tomorrow at 420.
03:23Just so he knows up front.
03:25On the Wiseheart Right, We Make It Right, call Kyle Ratt hotline.
03:29John Fanta is excited.
03:30Welcome to the show.
03:32How about this?
03:33How about this?
03:34Everybody always says, will Chris Antonetti do it?
03:38What's he up to?
03:40What's the Guardians front office doing?
03:42And at times, they've been correct.
03:44Those takes have been correct.
03:46You cannot say that at 6-07 Eastern Time on this trade deadline day.
03:52This is how you address needs in a wide-open American League.
03:57This is how – I got my son in the back of the car, guys.
04:00He loves it, too.
04:01This is how you – this is how you do things to help your team.
04:05I give them credit that's deserved.
04:09And I love the fact that, you know, when they get Foster Griffin, I'm thinking to myself, okay, time for
04:15one more bat.
04:16Doesn't seem likely.
04:17Doesn't seem likely.
04:18The Nathaniel Lowe caused me to pick up the phone and call you guys because they went and got Joe
04:24Adele and Nathaniel Lowe.
04:25They said – they admitted their flaws.
04:28And their flaws are their lineup needed multiple ads.
04:31To what degree will these guys change everything?
04:34We'll see.
04:34But I'm with you, JP.
04:37Give them credit for doing something.
04:42That's a good – I agree.
04:44Go Cavs.
04:45All right, John.
04:46Be good, buddy.
04:47All right.
04:47We'll talk to you tomorrow, John.
04:51I mean, John wanted to make sure he got in.
04:55I get it, man.
04:55I have kids, and they do that all the time in the back of these interviews that I get asked
04:59to do.
04:59And I just – it's one of those things.
05:01I get it.
05:01But is this where I get to point out that it's Nathaniel Lowe and Joe Adele and Foster Griffin?
05:08And these are good additions.
05:10But the guys were going to move the needle for the Guardians.
05:12Art Bazzana, Gavin Williams, DeLauder, Hosey.
05:16No, that's perfectly fine.
05:17I'm surprised that Nathaniel Lowe –
05:20Nathaniel Lowe, formerly known as Nate Lowe, was enough to make the meter move for John to feel like he
05:25had to call in.
05:26I was going to jam him up.
05:28He's got the kid in the car.
05:29He's having fun here.
05:30Yeah, that being the part that maybe broke everybody is a little funny to it all.
05:34Yeah, no, again, it's just – it's the idea that they did something, Nick.
05:37That's the part that I personally am hanging on to because I just – we talked about it on Friday.
05:42It's like, do you think they're going to do anything?
05:43I'm like, no.
05:43And then you're like, well, they might trade Stephen Kwan.
05:45It's like, yeah, okay, I didn't think about subtractions.
05:48But as far as the additions are concerned, no, I didn't think they were going to do anything at all.
05:53I'm shocked.
05:54And I like Joe Adele more than most.
05:57I think he's the headliner.
05:59Oh, by far, in my opinion.
06:00Mostly just because I think he can also impact your lineup next year.
06:03I think most people are going to lean on Foster Griffin and end up being the headliner.
06:06But he's such a mixed bag, I really don't know what you're getting there.
06:09I really don't.
06:09We've seen all sorts of people have three good months of baseball.
06:12I just don't know.
06:13He throws seven pitches.
06:14Averaging 91 miles per hour on his fastball.
06:16I just don't know.
06:17Yeah, and what he gave up, if he's just your four starter, you're fine.
06:21Or if he's just your fourth or fifth starter, wherever you want to put Cantillo,
06:24and Ciccone goes to the bullpen, and that gives you another arm with juice in the pen,
06:29I think he's going to fit in perfectly with the Guardians.
06:31I'll continue to maintain that.
06:33Pitching nerds love going to this pitching factory that is the Guardians.
06:36But yeah, and even within the Joe Adele conversation, there's no guarantee.
06:40Last year, he was great.
06:41Had all sorts of success as far as his power was concerned.
06:44Still strikes out way more than anybody's ever going to be comfortable with.
06:47You're going to watch Joe Adele swing and miss an awful ton.
06:49I hope everyone's really used to that, okay?
06:51That man strikes out a ton.
06:53And so, like, yeah, there's no question marks attached to it.
06:57Did he have a breakout year last year, and that's what's going to stay?
06:59Or was that just a blip in a projected young phenom's rocky, rocky career?
07:05I don't know.
07:06All right, so it looks like the guards are done now.
07:09The deadline's passed by about 11 minutes.
07:11It doesn't seem like we have an 11th-hour deal here.
07:13But it's Nathaniel Lowe for Alejandro Rivera.
07:18You know I got a soft spot for Alejandro.
07:20It's one of your favorites for a while.
07:21I don't know about Alejandro Rivera necessarily.
07:26How much better did the Guardians get today?
07:28Let's go with Chris in Chicago.
07:30Chris, welcome to the show.
07:32Gentlemen, great show as usual.
07:34I'm excited.
07:35Real quick, now that Juan Brito is gone, the trade that nobody won is pretty much over
07:40with the Nolan Jones-Juan Brito deal, because I think the White Sox just shipped him out
07:46of here.
07:48Anyway, I'm excited.
07:49My question to you guys is, do you think this is the Blitzer-Harris regime, maybe a little
07:57early, I know, minority owners or whatever, but do you think they're adding a little juice
08:01to the Guardians for this trade deadline?
08:04That's my question to Jonathan and Nick today on the afternoon show.
08:08Well, we appreciate you there, Chris.
08:09All right, so what if it's just the implied threat of the new ownership group?
08:16What if this is, you know, what is the front office saying, well, we know we're going to
08:23have new bosses in the future, and we'd really like to make it three straight playoff appearances
08:28so that when David Blitzer takes over, the last thing that he sees in the blotter isn't
08:34miss the playoffs, and we didn't do anything at the deadline.
08:38Maybe, I mean, they're operating in such a different way, I'm led to believe that there's
08:42all sorts of different things happening, but then we go back to the idea that they spent
08:45absolutely zero money this year.
08:46Yeah.
08:47So it's like, some parts are still controlled by the people that matter the most in the
08:53Dolans, essentially.
08:54Listen, if it gives him a chance down the stretch, I'm here for it.
08:58Um, and I actually think, I really do think Joe Adele with that, the implied threat of
09:03his power is something that's going to be fun to see how much that matters.
09:07Sure.
09:07And if you put low in the five hole, all of a sudden, again, you got one through six.
09:12If one through six can hit, that's enough to at least win a playoff series.
09:16But again, now I got to see it.
09:17They had to shake it up.
09:18You can't, you can't try to be a legitimate anything in baseball.
09:22If your slugging percentage is last in the league, uh, your run scored is second to last
09:26in the league.
09:27Everything that matters in the power category is just awful.
09:30You just, you just can't exist as a group.
09:32And they've, they've given so many players and so many people so much time.
09:35If part of this lesson is moving off of players that don't deserve any more time, that's a
09:40good lesson to be learned by the guardians.
09:42All right, let's go with Shane in Avon.
09:45What are your reaction to the guardians trades here?
09:49I love it.
09:50I, uh, uh, Nick, you made a good point, you know, it ain't like their best moves ever,
09:54but, uh, I think the American league is wide open.
09:57And I think that's why the biggest thing that I think that's why it's such a good move to
10:02go for is because, uh, who I'm the betting favorite for the Yankees and the Yankees aren't
10:07really scaring anybody.
10:08And now we're four deep with, uh, four good starting pitchers.
10:12Uh, we can move Cantillo and Slade, uh, down, uh, in a playoff series, the bullpen.
10:17And that really helps the bullpen because we were lacking that middle depth in the bullpen.
10:22And we add, uh, you know, and, uh, low might not hit for that much power, but on this lineup,
10:27he's going to, you know, we don't have power.
10:30So, you know, I think he adds to us.
10:31And then the Dell is obviously a good pickup.
10:33So I like it.
10:35All right.
10:35We appreciate you, buddy.
10:36Good stuff there.
10:37Shane and Avon, 216-474-0092.
10:41If you want to go ahead and hop in now, it becomes, all right, who goes out while adding
10:46Foster Griffin?
10:47Cause he didn't really subtract a lot of guys in the 40 man roster.
10:50Will Dion was in the 40 man.
10:51The other trades, you'll be kicking at least two other people off the 40 man roster.
10:57That'll be interesting to see what David Fry does.
10:59It'll be for what maybe, uh, Hoskins or Kyle Manzardo, all kinds of interesting spots to
11:05watch.
11:05I'm sure there's another one or two there as well.
11:07Yeah, definitely.
11:08It's just, you get two bats, you get a, you get an arm like this is there.
11:11They're at least trying to shake it up.
11:12It might not be the sexiest of names, all things considered, but they're making moves
11:15and they seem like quality moves right now.
