The Commissioner of Police is condemning the leak of a confidential Trinidad and Tobago Police Service document detailing the accumulated vacation leave of senior officers. He says the disclosure was malicious, misleading, and designed to damage public trust. Achsah Gulston reports.
00:00The Commissioner of Police, Alistair Guevara, has strongly criticized a recent leak of an internal document showing vacation leave balances of senior TTPs officers.
00:10He says the information was deliberately handed to a social media blogger by what he called a, quote, not so anonymous, end quote, source, with the intention of sowing discord.
00:20The Commissioner stressed that the officer's leave was approved in line with lawful entitlements and strategic planning, dismissing claims of personal targeting as false and misleading.
00:32He warned that the real danger lies in the breach of confidentiality, which disrupted deployment strategies and exposed sensitive information that should have never been weaponized.
00:43He described the act not as whistleblowing, but outright sabotage.
00:47The Top Cup also rebuked the blogger who published the leak, saying it was not journalism but, quote, digital gossip, end quote, noting that recognized media houses had refused to give attention to what he called reckless speculation.
01:02He reminded both officers and the public that the duty of the TTPs is to protect and serve, not to indulge in theatrics or sensationalism.
01:11Commentary without facts, he says, only weakens institutions and erodes public confidence.
01:18Reaffirming his commitment to transparency and fairness, the Commissioner says he will not allow attempts to destabilize the police service through cowardly leaks and distorted narratives.
