00:01A Platza oak treatment. It's great for stimulation and exfoliation. I'm very
00:06excited to try it, but a little nervous.
00:11Hey, it's Carly, and if you live in New York City, you might be familiar with Russian bathhouses.
00:16They have a long history here, and the one I'm visiting today has been open for over a hundred
00:20years. Now, Turkish and Russian baths are more than just a spa. They are a place to relax,
00:25but they're also a place to socialize and get a good Russian meal. Today, I'm actually gonna be
00:29trying the Platza oak treatment. It's great for exfoliation and stimulation, but in order to get
00:35all that, you gotta get whacked with some oak leaves soaked in soap. It's a sentence I never thought
00:40I'd say. Let's see how it goes. We've got our celebrity wall, as you can see. Very impressive.
00:47A plethora of JFK Juniors, Raul Julia, Julia Roberts, Dave Matthews. Hi, my name is Dimitri Shapiro.
00:54I'm the owner-operator of the Russian and Turkish baths. The Russian and Turkish baths offers five
00:58saunas and steam rooms, a cold plunge pool, roof deck, and a restaurant. We also have treatments
01:03that range from $40 to $110, with the most popular being the Platza. Hi. Hi, good to see you.
01:10Please welcome. The Platza oak leaf treatment is pretty intense.
01:16Many cultures have a thing where they use different kind of branches, birch, eucalyptus. Oak just happens
01:22to be plentiful. They make these brooms out of these oak leaves, and the oils that are in the
01:27leaves and the branches are great at opening up your pores. Any injuries you have, any inflammation,
01:33it relieves stress, and on top of that, it's detoxifying your body. Treatment's usually 10 to 15
01:39minutes. It really depends on how much you can take, because in the process, sometimes you do them in
01:43the sauna, and not everyone can take that much heat. Are you okay? Yeah. I'm good. Eucalyptus
01:51soap, that really extracts all the oils out of the branches, and also protects them from, like,
01:56it softens them up so it doesn't hurt the body, and also keeps them together so they don't, like,
02:01you know, fall apart. Since the skin is your biggest organ, and living in New York, we have a bunch
02:09of toxins in us. It's clearing off all the dead skin, it's opening up all your pores, it's helping
02:12you detoxify. Any issues you have with, like, inflammation, any joint pain, muscle pain helps
02:18with that. Some people go every couple days, some people get them every week, some people get them
02:25every month, but we highly encourage our customers to get it, because it's a totally unique treatment.
02:33It's only $40. Yeah, it's a very affordable treatment, yeah. The bathhouse is $55. You have to
02:38pay the admission to use the facilities, and then the treatments are on top of that.
02:52So when you're done, drink, like, Gatorade or something, because you've lost a lot of electrolytes,
02:57you're going to feel kind of euphoric, because you've gotten a lot of, like, toxins out.
03:02I don't know what the last 15 minutes were, but it was nice. I've never experienced anything like
03:08that before. I just finished the treatment. I feel like I went through an array of emotions. First,
03:14I don't know, I feel like I kind of blacked out, then I was in shock, then I was very
03:19tired,
03:20then I was energetic. So far, my skin feels really smooth. I'm excited to see how it feels later today,
03:25tomorrow, the rest of the week. Thankfully, no, like, weird reactions so far, but right now,
03:31it feels very, like, buttery smooth. I do think that this was worth the price. It's really not bad
03:36for a really good treatment that has a lot of benefits, especially for me. I'm already experiencing
03:41really dry skin with the colder weather, and so I feel like it was worth the money,
03:45and I would definitely do it again. I'd want to bring friends next time,
03:49because I feel like this is just, like, a fun place to hang out.
