00:00And then I put one of his snake plants into an...
00:05No.
00:09Hey guys, it's Mee-Anne and this is Beauty With Me.
00:12Welcome to part two of Mee-Anne Declutters Her Beauty Space.
00:17Colm and I are fortunate enough to live in an apartment here in Brooklyn, New York,
00:20where we actually have a spare room that when we moved in we had intended to be
00:26a filming slash guest room slash office space, but it really just ended up being a guest room slash dumping
00:34ground.
00:35I have always dreamed of having a space where I can actually film my beauty videos,
00:41have a desk where I can try out a new product,
00:44and actually store my product in an efficient and functional way.
00:48So I finally decided to hunker down and do this thing.
00:53And this is the fruit of my slash hour because it was a group effort labor.
01:01The space before was not ideal.
01:04It had really pink walls.
01:06I liked the walls, but not ideal for filming.
01:08It just made the room feel kind of dark.
01:11The old bed that I had in here was really big.
01:13The idea for transforming the space was to make it brighter, better organized,
01:17and pretty enough to use as a backdrop when I film.
01:21Before I show you all the fun in the entire process, though,
01:24please make sure you are subscribed down below.
01:26Little red button.
01:27Beauty With Me comes out every Monday at 11 a.m.
01:29And while you're at it, take out your phone and follow me on Instagram at meand.chan.
01:34And please excuse my horsey voice.
01:36I am getting over a cold.
01:38Okay, so this was a three day process.
01:40On day one, Collin and I decided to paint the walls.
01:45So we purged the room, donated a lot of items to Goodwill,
01:50sold a few items, and just minimized the amount of stuff that was in here
01:54so that we could put it all in the center and really paint the walls.
01:57So we just went for a very classic white shade with a satin finish,
02:00something that would really reflect light and make it brighter and feel bigger when I'm filming.
02:06So day two was all about new furniture.
02:10So I decided to reach out to Ikea because they are so great for small space solutions.
02:14And they decided to help me out by sending over a desk and a sleeper sofa that would fit this
02:20space.
02:20So the desk that I got was the Ikea Alex desk that matches the Ikea Alex drawers that I already
02:28had.
02:32When it came to the sleeper sofa, I did so much research trying to find one that was small enough
02:38to fit a desk and have room to walk around.
02:41But also when it pulled out, could comfortably sleep two people.
02:44I landed on the Ikea Likesell unit, which is just like a futon kind of style sleeper sofa that you
02:52can pull out to a full bed.
02:54It is hands down like the smallest, most functional unit for the price that I could find.
02:59It does the job.
03:00My sister slept on it last week and she thought it was very comfortable.
03:03We also got some under bed storage from Ikea that we used to hold like our linens and towels and
03:08that sort of thing.
03:09We're going to see if it fits.
03:18Once all the furniture was in place, it was time to tackle the things that needed to be drilled and
03:23adhered to the walls.
03:25My coworker Anthony, who shoots my videos and is also my friend, quote, loves to build things.
03:32So he did all the drilling and I handed him a screwdriver.
03:37We have accumulated a couple of different instruments over the years.
03:41So we like to mount them up on the wall.
03:49We moved on and put up the bulletin board on the right side of the room.
03:56So one of my former coworkers had this awesome show on Refresh 29 called Be Organized.
04:01And she created this amazing wall mounted ring light setup for a beauty blogger here in New York.
04:07I loved this setup.
04:09When I saw it, my mind was like blown.
04:11And we decided to recreate this setup.
04:13We got this awesome second hand boom arm that can turn and be stowed away to hold a ring light.
04:20What's really great about it is the boom arm can be angled different ways so that different parts of the
04:25room are visible.
04:26It also keeps the stuff on the floor to a minimum.
04:29There's no like leg stands on the floor, no wires.
04:33It's a really nice like seamless setup.
04:34And it's also always there.
04:36And I think it encourages me to film.
04:39Hi guys.
04:40We just put in the boom arm with the ring light.
04:47You're welcome.
04:48So it doesn't go flush against the wall like we had hoped.
04:52But if you loosen this knob right here and this one right here, you can just spin it down and
05:01put it flat against your radiator like that.
05:04And it will tuck away behind the desk.
05:05Yes.
05:06I figured some of you might be interested in the type of gear that I use.
05:09I use a Canon G7X camera to record.
05:12And then I actually also got this really cool multifunction ball head shoe mount to put on my ring light
05:20to hold my camera.
05:21This is really cool because you can use it to record horizontally or vertically.
05:25I have always wanted a floating plant shelf.
05:29They're not just beautiful and make for a gorgeous backdrop for filming,
05:33but they keep all the plants up and out of my cat's reach because she's a chewer and she has
05:40killed many, many, many of my plants.
06:01After all of that was up, it was time to move on to day three, which is all about organization
06:06and decor.
06:07I decided to keep my nine drawer Alex unit tucked away in the corner.
06:12I purposefully kept my skincare away from the window because direct sunlight can actually impact the efficacy of a lot
06:18of the actives in your skincare products.
06:21I also put this beautiful gold mirror from Target above it so that I can look into it as I
06:26apply my skincare.
06:27Okay, so moving on to the desk drawers.
06:30So on the left side is where I keep my camera equipment, my hair straighteners, my jewelry, hair accessories.
06:35And the right side is where I keep my go-to makeup products and makeup products that I want to
06:42test out.
06:43So that's like eyeshadows that I just got that I haven't given my full, full trial run yet.
06:49The idea is I'll be moving things out of this drawer as I try them pretty regularly.
06:53So in terms of decor, I decided to upcycle a couple of the candles that I had burned down.
06:59So I use empty candle vessels for a couple of different things.
07:02You can put pens in them, I put my brushes in them, cotton swabs, that sort of thing.
07:07And you can also use them as plant pots because plant pots are very expensive and candle holders are so
07:13cute.
07:14Decanting your candles is actually really, really easy.
07:16I like to pour boiling water into the vessel and then wait for the wax to kind of get to
07:22the top, cool down.
07:23Then it makes it really easy to just scoop the wax up, clean out the candle, and then put whatever
07:29you want into it.
07:30Anthony, the gift that keeps on giving, is also an avid plant dad.
07:36He propagated a couple of plants for me from his plant collection.
07:45And I put one of his aloe vera plants into an old olfactory candle that I had that says hot
07:49fire on it.
07:50I think it looks really cute.
07:52And then I put one of his snake plants into an old clay pot that I had lying around.
07:59So I've had this cutting of what I think is a pothos.
08:02Man is both a plant lady and a cat lady.
08:05I stole it from work.
08:07Actually, I didn't steal it.
08:09It gave its baby to me.
08:24Once all my plants were potted, I put them up on my floating shelf and created my floating plant wall
08:32and moved on to decorating the rest of the space.
08:35Urban Outfitters in Target were kind enough to send me a few items to gussy up the space.
08:40This stool is absolutely gorgeous.
08:43It's a rattan stool, and I love rattan, that I'm using as my desk chair.
08:49I decided to go for a stool because it can be pushed under the desk when the bed is pulled
08:54out.
08:56I also got this really cute triangular wooden side table from Urban Outfitters that I'm using as kind of a
09:02side table for the bed.
09:06The IKEA bed is really functional and really great for what it does, but it does look pretty plain when
09:12it just has the gray cover on top.
09:14So to dress it up, Target sent me this gorgeous bohemian kind of white pillow and this waffle weave white
09:21blanket.
09:22And I got this Urban Outfitters fleece body pillow that just makes the couch feel so much more inviting.
09:30Last but not least, the carpet.
09:33So rugs, carpets, what's the difference?
09:37I'm just going to say it's a rug.
09:39Rugs just really tie rooms together in my opinion.
09:42So I got this gorgeous washable rug from Urban Outfitters.
09:49It has this cool like geometric kind of wabi-sabi kind of look to it.
09:54And it's really colorful and the room itself is actually pretty neutral.
09:59Like it has the grays, the whites.
10:00So having this fun blue and pink and burgundy rug on the floor makes it just look so much more
10:07fun.
10:08And Bootsy really likes it.
10:24And we'll see you next time.
10:26We will see you again.
10:26And we'll see you next time.
10:27Bye Bye Bye.
10:42And that is it.
10:43I know that not everyone has the space
10:46or really the need for a setup like this,
10:49but I thought it would be fun to document
10:51since I wanted to do this anyway.
10:53And I do hope that there are some little hacks in here
10:57that you might take and apply to your space.
11:00I would also love your feedback on this type of video.
11:04So it's not, you know, your typical makeup tutorial.
11:08Would love to know if you guys like to see
11:10these kind of organizational DIY beauty videos from me.
11:14And I will see you guys next week.
11:17And hopefully you'll be seeing a lot more of me in this space.
11:21Bye.
11:23Thanks so much for watching guys.
