00:00In five, four, three, two, one.
00:13Hey, it's Carly, and I'm here at Remedy Place to try the Cold Plunge.
00:17It is great for inflammation, better sleep, energy boost,
00:20things I'm desperately needing in this very moment.
00:23Will it be worth the time, the money, the pain of sitting in an ice bath for six minutes?
00:28I truly don't know, and I don't know why I get myself into these things, but let's find out.
00:33I want to try out the Cold Plunge because the last few weeks, I have put my body through the
00:37wringer.
00:38I got a concussion. I traveled across the country twice.
00:42I've barely gotten any sleep through all of it, been working really hard,
00:46and I just feel like this is the nice reset my body has been waiting for.
00:50I am definitely hoping for a boost of energy once I get out of the very icy tub,
00:54and I hope that that can kind of take me through the week, the weekend,
00:59and I don't know, just make me feel a little bit more alive because I feel like a zombie lately.
01:03I have tried cryotherapy before, so I have put my body in a very cold situation,
01:10and that one was a little tough, but it did help me mentally prepare for what this might feel like.
01:16This is definitely a longer span of time to be in that environment.
01:21I'm desperately needing these benefits that come with Cold Plunge,
01:24so I am willing to risk it for the biscuit.
01:29My name is Dr. Jonathan Leary, and I'm the CEO and founder of Remedy Place.
01:33Remedy Place is the world's first social wellness club.
01:36It's a whole entire club that's centered around holistic self-care,
01:38but it's made to enhance your health and your social life at the same time.
01:42Everything here is made to do with somebody else.
01:44I've been working on Remedy for 10 years,
01:46but I had my private practice for five years before the first club opened.
01:50Non-surgical, non-drug approach to surgery prevention and chronic pain rehabilitation
01:54that is designed to heal.
01:56So we created an environment that starts a healing process for the moment you walk in,
02:00and then we found a way to enhance your health and your social life at the same time.
02:05What is Cold Plunge?
02:06Cold Plunge.
02:07Okay, so here, I mean, traditional Cold Plunge is, you know, any cold immersion.
02:11However, at Remedy, we do it more as an ice bath, an ice bath class.
02:16Okay.
02:16So in a spa, traditional cold tubs are around 50 degrees,
02:19and if it's unsupervised, it has to stay above 50.
02:23Okay.
02:23But go in, you have this amazing, like, initial reaction, right?
02:28The body has to adapt to this extreme, and then we coach you through six minutes,
02:32and you step out, and then you feel like an absolute superhuman.
02:35And what is the coaching like?
02:37Like, do people, like, give up?
02:39No, well, you know, it's hard, right?
02:41Especially the first time you've never experienced it.
02:43The feeling, you know, your body goes into a little bit of a shock,
02:46so it's, like, it shortens the breath, and it's kind of like,
02:50and we just have to get you breathing.
02:51We have to make sure that your body's relaxed in the tub,
02:54because, you know, as people start, you know, panicking, they tense up,
02:57and we want to make sure that you're nice and relaxed.
02:59Make sure you don't jump out, and then get you into that six-minute club.
03:03Six minutes.
03:04Okay, so you ready for this?
03:05Yes.
03:06Let's do it.
03:06Six minutes.
03:07Let's go.
03:08The thing I'm most nervous about is the fact that it is six minutes in a very icy tub,
03:13and, yeah, I'm definitely a little nervous that I might not be able to handle it,
03:18but mama didn't raise a quitter, so.
03:23So when you go into the tub, you're going to stand at the bottom.
03:25There's a seat.
03:26Lean back gently and try to relax your head to the back of the tub.
03:29Okay.
03:30When you go in and you submerge, the body's first reaction is to shorten the breath.
03:34Okay.
03:35So you might feel, we just need to do whatever we can to get the breath under control.
03:40So as long of an inhale as you can, as long of an exhale,
03:45once we get that rhythm down, then we'll switch to just nasal breathing.
03:49Okay.
03:49So you'll breathe in and out through your nose.
03:51And then I'm just here to make sure you can keep breathing.
03:53Make sure you don't tense up.
03:55Yeah.
03:55Relax and relax, and then just know that it gets better and better.
03:58Yes.
03:59And the feeling when you step out is always worth it.
04:02Okay.
04:03Okay?
04:04So I'm going to give you a little bit of a countdown.
04:06In five, four, three, two, one.
04:13Step into the tub.
04:14Try to move fast.
04:15Oh, God.
04:16All the way back.
04:17All the way back.
04:19Slow down the breath.
04:24Good.
04:24Relax the eyes.
04:26Good.
04:29Good.
04:29The breathing's already really good.
04:33Yeah.
04:34Try to relax the eyes.
04:36Try to relax the jaw.
04:37You're going to feel like an absolute superhuman.
04:40So just think.
04:40You can do anything for six minutes.
04:43This first part is hard, but you're strong, you're powerful, you're in control, you control
04:50your mind and your body, and you've got this.
04:54You already have a minute down.
04:56Oh, wow.
04:57Yeah.
04:58It's a little bit of a rush.
05:00I know the first part.
05:02You got it.
05:04Just think.
05:05After a couple minutes, your body will start to numb.
05:08Your body's adapting.
05:10Oh, my gosh.
05:11My ankles are weirdly so, like, the worst part.
05:15Yeah.
05:15So think anything farther away from the heart, those are the distal extremities, so those
05:20already get the least amount of blood flow.
05:23But in here, everything's basal constricting.
05:26So you're decreasing blood flow to the body.
05:28And then when you step out, the body's going to rush blood to the surface.
05:33So it's going to help improve all of your circulation.
05:36It's going to strengthen your whole cardiovascular system.
05:40And you're going to look and feel amazing.
05:42You're already halfway done.
05:44Woo-hoo-hoo.
05:46How are you feeling?
05:47It's getting better.
05:49Oh, some arms in.
05:50Okay.
05:50You're going to notice a shift when you go in.
05:52So relax your shoulders, too.
05:54You got to relax your shoulders down.
05:55Relax them down.
05:56Relax them down.
05:57Good.
05:58Can I call you your first time?
05:59Are you kidding me?
06:00You're strong.
06:03Oh, the arms are hard.
06:05It's hard.
06:07One minute to get in the six-minute club.
06:11I should get to keep the robe.
06:12Yeah.
06:13Like an SNL.
06:1425 seconds.
06:15Let's go.
06:17Do we want to dunk?
06:18No.
06:20All right.
06:21Five seconds.
06:23Five.
06:24Four.
06:26Three.
06:28Two.
06:31One.
06:31Am I dunking?
06:32Don't I dunk?
06:32You should do it.
06:34Just do it.
06:35Slide in.
06:42Oh, my God.
06:43Oh, my God.
06:44Welcome to the six-minute club.
06:48Oh, my God.
06:49Oh, my God.
06:50What is this job?
06:53So now, as you dry off, the body will start to shiver.
06:57Remember, this is where the magic happens.
07:00You did so good.
07:01You dumped.
07:02And you did the six-minute club the first time.
07:04Oh, my heart.
07:05But as you dry off, you'll notice the body starts shivering.
07:09That's how it's going to warm up.
07:10Yeah.
07:10That's where your metabolism is going to spike.
07:12You know, this whole hormonal reaction.
07:15But you did so good.
07:16I feel the dopamine.
07:19It's amazing.
07:20All right.
07:21I just finished the plunge.
07:22I did not expect to dunk my head, but peer pressure got the best of me.
07:26And I did it.
07:27And I feel amazing.
07:29I'm still shivering.
07:31Can confirm.
07:32I slept like a baby last night.
07:34And I might go back to sleep, honestly.
07:37For real, though, I got such a good night's sleep.
07:40Like, I have been needing that for so long.
07:44It was amazing.
07:45It's not through the entire night.
07:46For me, I honestly think that cold plunge is like a no-brainer.
07:5010 out of 10 would do it again.
07:52I love that at Remedy Place, you can actually do it with friends in a class.
07:56And you can practice your breathing.
07:58I'm almost, like, craving it now.
07:59Like, I want to get back into the water.
08:03You know, and definitely dunk again.
08:06Maybe get my hands or my arms in a bit more than I did.
08:09That was really hard.
08:10I could only do that for a little bit.
08:12But overall, it really wasn't bad.
08:15Like, six minutes and you feel amazing after.
08:18Next time, I would definitely want to come with friends because I feel like that could be such a fun
08:22experience.
08:23Like, us all rooting each other on.
08:25But, yeah, this would be such a fun experience with my best friends or a date.
08:30I'm single.
08:31I'm single.
08:31I'm single.
08:33I'm single.
08:33I'm single.
08:34I'm single.
