00:00Hey guys, this is Mi-Anne and this is Beauty With Me.
00:02I'll do pretty much anything to keep my makeup on,
00:06including, but certainly not limited to,
00:09dunking my entire head in a bowl of water.
00:13Which is a real thing that actually happened last week.
00:17A few months ago, I discovered the Jam-Soo method,
00:20which is a makeup setting technique that involves
00:22powdering your face a ton and then dunking your head in water for 30 seconds.
00:27Sound appealing? Not really.
00:29Jam-Soo, which literally means diving in Korean,
00:32started gaining a lot of traction in the States last year.
00:35The method is supposed to make your makeup resist water, sweat, and humidity.
00:39Oh, and it's also supposed to make it last for 12 hours.
00:42Sign me up.
00:43I'll be honest, it all sounded a little too good to be true,
00:46but naturally I had to try it out.
00:48So I thought who better to test it out with me
00:50than someone who lives and breathes makeup like myself.
00:54My friend Ashley Vera, who just started her own YouTube channel,
00:57came to Refinery29 to put Jam-Soo to the test.
01:00I am here with Ashley and we are going to Jam-Soo Powder Dive.
01:05How long does your foundation last usually?
01:08Between five to six hours.
01:10Okay, so this is supposed to last for 12 hours.
01:13So I'm excited to see how it plays out.
01:16Should we just get into it?
01:18Yeah, let's just do it.
01:19Performing Jam-Soo isn't all that involved.
01:21All you need is a bowl full of water,
01:23a lot of baby powder,
01:25or setting powder if you'd rather go that route,
01:27a sponge to apply it with, and some tissues.
01:30First things first, we're going to apply our foundation and concealer
01:32the way we normally would.
01:34Okay.
01:34So let's do it.
01:39Now that our foundation is on, we're going to use concealer.
01:41I'm going to use this one from Too Faced.
01:45Whenever I put on concealer,
01:47I always tend to make like an upside down triangle under my eye.
01:51I just feel like it lifts it.
01:53Yeah, it's kind of like a highlighting stuff too, right?
01:55And why are you using a concealer that's like,
01:58so much lighter than your skin tone?
02:00I don't know, I tend to make the...
02:03There's foundation all in my shirt.
02:05Damn it.
02:07Next is the best part.
02:09After we applied our base,
02:11aka foundation and concealer,
02:12Ashley and I generously powdered our face in baby powder.
02:16This is sort of like baking.
02:17Yeah.
02:17Yeah.
02:18And do you do that?
02:18I do it for almost every day.
02:20Damn, that's dedication.
02:22Yeah.
02:23It's pretty much concealing and setting the under of your eye.
02:26It was supposed to resemble a well-powdered mochi,
02:29or powdered donut.
02:31Generally speaking,
02:32I was not a huge fan of all the baby powder on my face.
02:35It doesn't smell good.
02:37It made my face look really dry.
02:39It got a little bit in my mouth.
02:40It wasn't all that pleasant,
02:42but it was worth it.
02:43So we are all powdered up.
02:45I think that we have no excuses but to just do it.
02:48Yeah.
02:48Let's go.
02:4930 seconds on the clock.
02:50Take a deep breath.
02:53Okay.
02:54Ready?
02:55Yeah.
02:56Go.
02:56Go.
03:05I don't want to do it anymore.
03:07I made a huge mess.
03:11My skin didn't look great post-dive.
03:13It was blotchy and powdery and dry, but I pressed on.
03:17I've been told that it's supposed to end up looking more natural as you wear it.
03:23As the day goes by.
03:24Yeah.
03:25Because I think your natural oils kind of seep through and it looks a little better.
03:30But I think we should just go in with the rest of our makeup, right?
03:32Yeah, let's do the rest.
03:33Still naked without it.
03:34So I'm going to go in with bronzer first, CoverGirl.
03:37Same.
03:38I think it smells.
03:39Ooh, nice.
03:40I feel like that anything we put on our face now that's powder is going to go on really
03:44smoothly.
03:50Cool.
03:50So with all of my makeup on, it actually doesn't look as weird.
03:54It's still pretty powdery though.
03:56Yeah.
03:56Especially around the nose.
03:58After we finished putting on the rest of our makeup, Ashley and I decided to test out
04:01the method for the next 12 hours.
04:04Check it out.
04:05Check it out.
04:08In the vlogs.
04:09Right here.
04:11My makeup is actually looking really good.
04:16It's a little bit dry in some areas, if you can see here, but overall, like from afar,
04:23my face looks like someone asked me if I had my face airbrushed earlier, so.
04:27I feel the makeup is holding up very well.
04:30I don't feel as oily and I don't see much of the powder anymore.
04:35I like it so far.
04:37Hey guys.
04:37I'm back from work.
04:39It's about 7.
04:40I'm here spending some quality time with my kitty.
04:42The makeup is holding up pretty well.
04:45I went to an event with La Prairie after work and it looked pretty flawless that whole time.
04:52I have not had to blot my face at all today, which is really weird because I usually blot my
04:58face like four or five times a day.
05:00I don't feel as oily still.
05:03I mean, my lipstick has wore off and everything, but usually I would be really oily in the T-zone
05:09over here, and I'm not.
05:12I just really want to take my makeup off.
05:14I usually don't wear it this late, but as you can see, the makeup actually has held up really well.
05:19I think that putting the powder on my face actually made my bronze, like my contour product, stay on way
05:27longer than they usually do.
05:28The dryness around my nose is definitely still there if you look closely.
05:33As you can see, my makeup still looks the same, and I love it.
05:38I would definitely recommend it for anyone who has the time to actually do the process.
05:46I was really surprised that my makeup looked that good for 12 hours.
05:52That being said, Jamsu was very messy.
05:56I can't say that I would do it again just because I just would rather use setting powder or setting
06:02spray or primer.
06:03But it was still a very good experience.
06:05Ashley loved it.
06:07She would definitely do it again.
06:09But I don't know if I would.
06:10Thanks so much for watching.
