00:00I'm most fearful of the memories of being tender-headed.
00:04The braids are really tight.
00:05It would just be interesting to see where I'm at with that.
00:08Hi, I'm Angelique, and today I'm getting
00:10an up-do braid transformation.
00:12But before you see my transformation, subscribe below.
00:15When I was younger, my mom used to braid my hair.
00:18Unfortunately, she passed away when I was 13.
00:20And so I think that stifled my growth in the beauty community,
00:24especially not having anyone around me
00:26to show me what my hair was capable of.
00:29For a while growing up, I stuck out as the girl with the poof.
00:33For some reason, once I became an adult,
00:35I stopped getting my braid cornrowed or plaits.
00:39And so being able to get that again as an adult would be so dope.
00:43I'm excited to kind of be a little bit more adventurous with my hair.
00:46The inspiration for this look is edgy but sexy
00:49and dope and badass at the same time.
00:51I love taking adventures.
00:53I love being adventurous.
00:54And being able to do that with my hair is just me.
00:57Hi, I'm Sabrina and I'm a hairstylist in Los Angeles.
01:00I specialize in styling and I do set work, photo shoots, and production work.
01:06I'm super excited.
01:07Your hair looks great.
01:08What I want to do is match your hair to make sure that this is the right color.
01:11Okay, so I got a number three and I was looking at your video and I feel like it matches.
01:17Oh my, that's a perfect match.
01:18What we're going to do for you, because of your face shape,
01:21I think this will be super cute.
01:22I'm going to do a side part.
01:23Oh, okay.
01:24That's going to be more you.
01:25Okay, I'm here for it.
01:26All right, let's get started.
01:28Okay.
01:28So first, I will spray her hair to wet her hair down and then I will blow dry her hair
01:33just to stretch it out so that it's easier to braid.
01:37And then I'll take my comb and I will part the hair into the desired part.
01:43The first product I use is braiding gel.
01:46That's what I use throughout the majority of the hair.
01:49I would start braiding her natural hair and then I would eventually start feeding in more hair.
01:58I would braid it down to the back of her head, clamp it, and start the next braid.
02:05So when Anjali came in, she had these beautiful bouncy curls.
02:07I love natural hair, so her natural hair was beautiful to me.
02:12Her curls are similar to mine, so I was really excited to see how long her hair stretched.
02:17Hair means so much to me because I never knew that I could be doing this
02:21full-time, making money, and being successful.
02:23So it means literally the world to me.
02:27Once I get to the bottom of the hair, I will take a bungee and I would wrap that
02:33around all of the finished braids.
02:35Once I apply the bungee, I will take a small piece of hair, wrap it around to cover the bungee.
02:41I would start braiding the hair all the way down and start feeding in hair to the desired length.
02:48So the way I mastered this look, the night before, I will pull out a mannequin doll head and I
02:52will
02:52actually practice. Even though I do it consistently, working on my mannequin doll head to help me out
02:57and just to keep me better prepared for what's to come. For the last step, I use a mousse to
03:03set the hair.
03:04I use Xanax strips to mold the hair and I take it off. It looks beautiful.
03:10It's time for the final review. Are you ready to see the finished results?
03:13Yes.
03:14Okay.
03:14Ready?
03:17Oh my God!
03:26I love my hair. It's viby. It's badass. It's sexy. I think it provides all those elements that make
03:33you feel super confident walking down the street. Just like, oh my gosh, her reaction made me feel
03:38so good. You never know how people are going to react to what you do, so it was great. Getting
03:43my hair
03:43done for the first time since I was younger felt nostalgic. It was amazing to see how my hair was
03:48transformed in just a couple hours. It took about three and a half to four hours. Going from someone
03:55who has big curly hair like me to going to someone who has their hair slicked, people tend to get
04:00kind
04:00of freaked out because they're not used to the shape of their own head. It might be a shock to
04:04them at
04:04first, but then once they actually start wearing it, they get used to it and they realize how beautiful
04:08it actually can be. I definitely learned some good after hair care tips. Just putting the mousse on top
04:14of my braids to make them shiny and keep them longer, I'm going to try to maintain it for up
04:19to
04:19two to three weeks. Overall, working with Anjali, she just made me feel so comfortable doing her hair.
04:24She wasn't tenderheaded, so that was a plus. She made my process easier and she's super sweet. I don't
04:31know who would have this hairstyle and not feel more confident, so of course. Slay!
