00:00Being from Brooklyn, every summer you can probably see every girl walking down the block
00:04with braids, and we just look at each other like, ooh, you cute, sis.
00:11Hi, I'm Sandy, and today I'm getting stitched braids.
00:14I want stitched braids because all winter I usually wear my hair short, as you can see,
00:19and now it's getting really, really hot outside, and that's the perfect protective style for
00:24when I want to go in the pool, the beach, when I want to work out.
00:28So, will I ever go natural?
00:31Probably not. For now, I just love the creamy crack.
00:34My hair is relaxed, and it just works for me.
00:37I'm excited to be, like, free, so I don't have to worry about sweating out my hair.
00:41And I have one of my good friends doing my hair today,
00:45and I'm super excited to see the look that she comes up with.
00:53Hi, my name is Lestania. I'm a braider.
00:56And today I'll be giving Sandy stitch braids.
00:59I'm known for stitch braids, any form of braids, and freestyle braids.
01:05Stitch braid is a feeding braid with a twist.
01:10The twist is the line that goes in between the braids to make it look like a stitch,
01:15like when you get stitches.
01:15Hey, girl. I'm so excited.
01:17Hey. Oh, my God. I'm so happy to see you again.
01:19So, what are we doing today?
01:21Well, today we're going to do some stitch braids, some freestyle in there,
01:26some gold clips, curls at the end, you know, get you in the wave of what it is today.
01:31Yeah.
01:31That's cute.
01:32I'm excited.
01:34Well, today's service is going to take about two and a half to three hours.
01:37First, I start off with blow drying the hair.
01:45Then I go into separating the hair into sections of how much braids I'm going to be doing so that
01:51I can know everything is equal and that it evens it out for me.
01:56Then I put rubber bands or I braid it back like natural regular braid just to hold it into place
02:02so it doesn't get into the other parts that I'll be doing.
02:13Then I apply jam onto the root of the hair.
02:18I comb through it to make sure it's smooth so that when I braid it, it goes easier through my
02:24fingers.
02:25Recommended for stitch braids, we will say try to give at least like three inches overall the head
02:31so that way you can get the same feel for the entire head from beginning to end.
02:37After that, I keep adding extensions to each slot piece by piece to get the braid to flow and look
02:44more natural.
02:45I recently found out that I was actually allergic to synthetic braiding hair.
02:50Anytime I would get my hair braided, it would itch really, really bad and I would
02:54have sores and like bumps and I found a company that has itch free braiding hair and it's been
03:01amazing so I'm excited and the itch free braiding hair is what we're using today.
03:06From there, I braid the hair with stitch braids. I use my pinky fingers to slice through the hair
03:13to give it the stitch look. I then braid all the way out to the bottom to the little little
03:20tiny pieces
03:20at the end of the braid.
03:25So her hair is about four inches at the top and about two to three at the sides which makes
03:32it a
03:32little bit more difficult to do the side than the top. And now I'm going to stitch the braids together
03:40so that way it stays down and lasts longer and it doesn't give you a hump in the back of
03:45the head.
03:52I'm going to have the bottom of the hair curled. I'm not going to add curly hair to it because
03:57the
03:57look that I'm going for today is a more neater tight curled drop look. And for the ends of it,
04:03I dip it in hot water to make sure it stays flexible and it doesn't look as stiff when you're
04:08finished doing the hair. It looks more natural and loose.
04:18I then apply mousse onto the hair to overall the entire head. I do the baby hairs with it as
04:25well.
04:27I apply either a do-rag or a black tape around the head to hold it down.
04:33And then I use a blow dryer to dry the top of the head.
04:48I put oil sheen on it obviously when I'm finished so it can look shiny and pretty.
04:54Okay, we're all done. I hope you like it as much as I do.
04:58Oh my god, this is so cute!
05:09Check me out. I love it. I feel like a brand new woman. It brings out my lashes. I can't
05:17wait for
05:18someone's son and my future hubby to see this. My edges are popping. This is going to be a staple
05:24for
05:25the summer and really make my outfits pop. I feel like stitch braids compliments my tomboy chic
05:30status because it's very versatile. I can dress it up and I can dress it down. This is so cute!
05:36Thank
05:36you so much, Leslie! You're welcome!
