00:09I'm Darren, and today I'm going to be getting passion twists with some gold accessories.
00:13The inspiration for this look, honestly, I get all of my inspiration from Instagram from
00:18other braiders, including the braider that is going to be braiding my hair today.
00:21When I was young, I actually never got my hair braided, not because I didn't want to,
00:26but because I lived in a community where there weren't people who knew how to braid hair.
00:31So I actually didn't get my hair braided until last year when I met the braider that's going
00:36to be doing my hair today.
00:38The reason why I wanted to get that done was because I saw other people who looked like
00:43me who were getting their hair braided and it looked amazing.
00:47Not only that, but I was looking for something that wouldn't damage my hair because my hair
00:51has some color on it.
00:52So that's when I just took the leap of faith and trusted India to do my hair.
00:56And ever since then, I've been obsessed with protective styles.
00:59I love Gabrielle Union.
01:02She always has really good protective styles and I like that she changes it up.
01:07What I'm excited about for this look is that I can wake up every morning and my hair is going
01:11to be on point and I don't have to do anything to it.

01:35You know, I love when you bring all this hair in the chair.
01:39So today we are doing passion twists?
01:41Yeah.
01:41I'm thinking passion twists with maybe some like gold accessories.
01:45Ooh, fine.
01:45What do you think?
01:46I guess do it.
01:47I'm going to go ahead and get Darren draped.
01:50After I get her draped, what I'm doing now is blow drying her hair out just to get it
01:55nice and straightened.
01:58Then I'll go into my pre-parting.
02:00When I do my pre-parting, I like to do the bricklay where the squares kind of lay on top
02:05of each other so the braids can lay neat and flat.
02:09With Darren's hair, her hair is pretty soft.
02:12So what I'll do is you'll see me going back and forth with the crochet method as well as
02:17just the rubber band method without the crochet.
02:19So I'll just plait some of them at the beginning and then I'll go on to the next one and
02:23I'll
02:23maybe do the crochet as well.
02:26Typically for me, braiding is easier than twists because it's easier on the fingers.
02:32It's like you're double twisting with passion twists.
02:35So you have to twist the hair and then twist it around and then continuous so you don't
02:41stop because if you let that hair go, then it'll mess up the twist.
02:44I love using spring curl for passion twists just because it gives that spring so it's
02:49really bouncy.
02:51Once I get to the top of the head with my protective style, I like to go ahead and clean
02:56up the bottoms
02:57of the braids or twists.
03:00Once I've cleaned up the bottom of the hair, I like to go in and add oil to my clients
03:07scalp
03:07that way it can add moisture as well as a little protective barrier on the scalp.
03:12I use edge control to go ahead and slick her baby hairs down.
03:15I'll get those nice and slick and then I'll lay her edges down with my edge wrap.
03:21After I do that, I'll go ahead and set her hair with the mousse.
03:24The mousse is just the finish.
03:26Just to clear up the mousse, I'll go ahead and use the blow dryer to put that heat on
03:31it and the heat will go ahead and dissolve the mousse into the scalp and it's just perfect.
03:37Now I'll add in her gold jewelry.
03:40You don't want to do too much when you're adding a jewelry, you just want to do just enough.
03:44Now I'll go ahead and remove her edge wrap and then I'm about to reveal her hair to her.
03:49So Darren, it's time for the reveal.

04:16I think it adds just a little touch of personality to an already really cool style.
04:21So if you want to get braids, definitely think about adding, you know, a little jewelry here
04:25and there.
04:26Darren has really soft hair, so I was a little worried about the passion twist not wanting
04:30to hold, but we did make it work.
04:32Passion twists usually would last about three to four weeks to make them last longer.
04:37Just make sure you're wearing a bonnet, make sure you're tying your hair down and make
04:41sure you're greasing your scalp because, you know, we need that extra juice.
04:47I love working with India.
04:48I've known her for about a year now.
04:50She is extremely professional and obviously really, really good at what she does and she
04:55pays attention to detail, which I think is very important with braids especially.
04:59I absolutely love working with Darren.
05:01She's such a sweet person and it was very good being able to let her experience that
05:06and me being the first person to do that protective style on her.
05:09I think the thing that I was most surprised about was that this isn't a very heavy style.
05:14The other styles that I've gotten previously, I can tell that I have braids, but this is
05:19so light I couldn't really even tell when she was finished, to be honest.
05:23I think this look definitely boosts my confidence because I can wake up and walk outside and
05:29my hair is already amazing.
05:31So I don't even have to think about it.
05:33I don't have to do anything to it.
05:34I just wake up and look good.
