00:00I'm very nervous to get bangs, incredibly nervous.
00:04Having like this big of a change is a really big deal for me.
00:07Like I feel very attached to my hair.
00:09I feel very like protected by my hair
00:11and I feel like it's part of my identity.
00:18So my hairstyle has kind of been basically like this
00:21and I've had this side part for my whole life
00:24and so I really wanted a change
00:25and I wanted to get curtain bangs
00:27to help kind of frame my face.
00:29So this is my first time getting any life-changing haircut at all.
00:34My name is Karla Calderon
00:35and I'm going to Milena Rose Salon in Beverly Hills
00:39to get curly bangs for the first time.
00:41All right, so what is it that you're wanting to achieve
00:43with your curls today?
00:44So I really wanted to do something different
00:46and I wanted to get some bangs, some curly bangs.
00:50There was this one photo with Kiki Palmer
00:52that I really, really loved
00:54and so I kind of want to reference her
00:57but just a little bit longer.
00:58Yeah.
00:59Yeah, I think that would look great.
01:02When I'm first starting to cut curly hair,
01:05I'm going to section the front from the back
01:07and focus on small sections of hair at a time.
01:10When you're cutting curly hair,
01:12you always want to start with the hair dry.
01:14So I'm going to do the length and the layers in the back first
01:17and then I'll come to the front.
01:19So when I'm cutting the bangs, I'm going to start by doing a short piece in the middle
01:23and we're just going to kind of taper down on the sides and blend it into the rest.
01:28So my hair type, I would say, is a tighter curl.
01:30I would say I'm like a 3B, 3C. I'm in between there.
01:34It's dry in general, so I'm always like putting hair oils
01:37and I'm doing hair masks and stuff like that.
01:39When it comes to cutting curly hair, it's much different than your average person.
01:45Each curl pattern is different.
01:47The ferocity is different.
01:49They might hold onto water or products differently.
01:51No one curl is the same.
01:53So I would not recommend cutting your bangs at home yourself.
01:57There's a risk where you can take too much hair
01:59and then you have a bulge of hair in the front of your head.
02:04If you need to just trim that one little hair in between your eyes, that's fine.
02:08But if you're trying to like commit to the curly life,
02:12I would not suggest doing it at home.
02:14I would definitely seek out your nearest curl specialist.
02:19With Karla, I decided to do two shampoos.
02:22First, I went in with the Milbon Moisture Shampoo to get any buildup or products
02:29that she's used in this past week off of her hair.
02:32And then the second is the Milbon Anti-Frizz Shampoo.
02:37Shampooing can be a little bit drying and with the de-frizzing shampoo,
02:40it's just going to help keep everything nice and juicy.
02:43So once I've rinsed all of the shampoo out,
02:45I'm going to go in with the Moisture Conditioner and really push it into the hair.
02:50Once I've rinsed that out, I'm going to go back through with the Milbon Anti-Frizz Conditioner
02:55and I'm going to use my wet brush to detangle and really work that conditioner through.
03:01I like to leave the conditioner in for about three to five minutes
03:05just to let the hair get a little drink of water.
03:08So once you're back at the chair or you've gotten out of the shower,
03:12I like to detangle again with my wet brush and I like to use Mizani Miracle Milk.
03:18It's my favorite detangler for all hair types actually, but especially for curls.
03:23So after I've put everything in a part, I'm going to use the Moisture Quench Gel from WeDod
03:29and Anti-Humidity Gel from WeDod as well.
03:33I just cocktailed those both together in my hand and I'm just going to really push the product in
03:39from root to end.
03:40So once we've got all of the products in and everything's kind of laying how we want it to lay,
03:45we're going to go in with our Dyson Supersonic Blow Dryer with the diffuser attachment.
03:50And I'm just going to lightly bounce the ends up.
03:54And then once you've got the ends like with the curls really locked in,
03:58I like to sit under the dryer or if you're at home, sit down,
04:02maybe do your makeup and air dry a little bit.
04:05So the final step, once you're about 80% dry,
04:08that's when you're going to want to start looking for the little curl families that have
04:12worked their way together.
04:13You're going to really gently just start pulling those apart.
04:17Don't force it, you know.
04:18If you start forcing it, you're going to get frizzed.
04:20You're still going to have definition.
04:22It's just going to make the curls feel pillowy soft and light like there's nothing in the hair.
04:29All right, so what do you think?
04:31I honestly love it.
04:32It's exactly what I wanted.
04:35Everything I was nervous about is completely gone.
04:38Yeah, I feel like it frames your face really well.
04:40It's just like a nice round shape.
04:41It really opens you up and it's going to be really versatile for you.
04:45You should be able to do a lot of different looks with the bangs.
04:48Honestly.
04:48Right? I feel like it's like meant for you.
04:50Yeah, it's like it's a really good change.
04:52Yay, I'm so happy for you.
04:55Curl journey.
