00:27I played sports, so my hair was always kind of in a bun.
00:30I'm kind of just ready for a new look.
00:32My hair doesn't really necessarily match me and my personality anymore,
00:36so I'd like to kind of have that show through my hair.

01:02A little bit anxious, but mostly excited.
01:04So we can give you just a really free-flowing haircut
01:06where you can just move it around
01:08and have more of like a lived-in modern feel to it.

01:13Okay, perfect.
01:17I loved Patti's hair when she came in.
01:19It was just really long and luxurious.
01:22To prep for a dry haircut,
01:24I'll section it off from the top of the head to behind the ear.
01:28I'm going to start in the back, cutting off about 10 to 12 inches,
01:32starting in the center, working to the outside
01:34to create a strong perimeter.
01:39It's been a really long time since I've gotten my hair done.
01:42I get trims here and there just to keep it healthy,
01:44but I haven't gotten it done in years.
01:52After working in the back, I will move to the front,
01:55creating a diagonal forward line
01:57to have a little bit more length in the front perimeter.
02:01After giving Patti the big chop,
02:03I'm going to work through the interior to create more texture,
02:06remove a little bit of density for her so it's free-flowing.
02:09I'll create a little bit of face framing this way.
02:12It is versatile.
02:12She can wear it either in the center or flip it to either side.

02:24All right, so we're going to be doing some color today, yeah?

02:30I like to be able to do kind of all of it and really kind of look at the hair
02:33color for what it is
02:34and kind of create new things all the time.
02:36You know, I think it'd be a really good idea to kind of incorporate a lot of your natural
02:39and do kind of like a warmer brown into some lighter bits and pieces, kind of framing the face,
02:45kind of showing off all of this new haircut.
02:47Okay, that's perfect.
02:49All right.
02:51With Patti, we decided to go with a little bit brighter hair color.
02:55We wanted to kind of warm up her hair kind of around her face and give it some dimension.
02:59First, I'm going to mix two different formulas.
03:02That way we get a nice transition through the color.
03:05Now I want to make sure and section out the sections around her face.
03:08This is going to help me map out the color as I move forward.
03:11Around the face, I'm taking pivoted sections just so that we can get a brighter color around
03:16her hairline.
03:17I'm blending one color into the second color so that we get a nice smooth transition.
03:24I'm working up each section as I get closer and closer to the part line.
03:30Now I'm going to do the same thing in the back, taking larger sections.
03:36It's been a really long time since I've had any color done to my hair, so I'm just kind of,
03:41you know, a little bit anxious to see how it'll look on me and kind of the upkeep.
03:50Next, I'm going to shampoo the color out of Patti's hair.
03:53I want to use a color safe shampoo and conditioner as I work through the hair.
03:59Now I'm going to select a color toner that's going to help refine Patti's hair color.
04:03I let this process between 5 to 15 minutes.
04:07Now I'm going to do a final shampoo and treatment onto Patti's hair just so that we get a nice,
04:12good shine.
04:15After Dell is done with the color, I'll come back to style Patti's hair.
04:19We'll blow dry in a little bit of a hold product to hold her blow dry,
04:24adding in a loose textured wave.
04:41And finishing off with a light textured cream and a light textured spray to give her that
04:46finished look that she's going for.
04:49And now for the final reveal.

05:21I was really attached to my hair before, but I think I am ready to keep my hair short from

05:28I love seeing Patty's reaction in the mirror.
05:31She was super excited and that's what makes my job so special.
05:34I love making people happy.
05:36For Patty today, we cut off about 10 to 12 inches, which is a very dramatic change.
05:41And I really think she'll love it.
05:43It felt like a really big chop right after she cut off that first chunk.
05:47I instantly felt lighter.
05:49My neck felt better.
05:50Working with Patty overall is fantastic.
05:53She's so fun.
05:54She's so sweet and she really takes care of her hair, which for a hairstylist like myself,
05:59that's something that we really, really love.
06:01I really like the color.
06:03I wasn't really sure how to explain the color that I wanted or the placement just because I
06:08haven't done much of that before.
06:09But he really took kind of the idea in my head and made it even better.
06:14My current hair makes me feel a lot more confident.
06:16The short hair makes me feel like I'm ready for a new attitude to match my new look.
