00:12because my blonde hair is going to become brown.
00:15I'm going to be a brunette.
00:16And guess who's doing my hair?
00:18Chris Appleton, celebrity hairstylist.
00:21When I was 13, ready to get a bat mitzvah,
00:23I was begging my mom for me to get highlights.
00:25I had really ugly braces, so I was trying to take the attention
00:29away from my braces and make my hair look good.
00:32And ever since, I've been getting highlights,
00:34so I've just kind of been in a pattern, a little bit of a habit.
00:37I think embracing this brunette style will bring out a new flair.
00:40Honestly, I was a little skeptical about dying my hair,
00:44but when I heard it was Chris Appleton,
00:45I was totally for it and really excited.
00:47I'm obsessed with Hustlers, JLo,
00:49and obviously everyone loves Kim Kardashian,
00:51so who better to let transform my hair than Chris?

01:07I'm so excited to see Corey's hair.
01:08She's been highlighting her hair for a while.
01:10She's been kind of stuck in this blonde world
01:12where she feels like she's kind of a slave to it.
01:14So I'm really excited to be taking her back to more of a natural color,
01:17adding some vibrancy and shine,
01:19and guess giving her a whole new lease of life with this brunette hair.
01:21Okay, so what are we going to do today?
01:23I hear you're up for a transformation.
01:24Yes, so I've been getting highlights forever,
01:27and I'm here to embrace a little bit of my natural Dirty Blonde Light Brown.
01:33You say Dirty Blonde Light Brown.
01:34Are you going to go big or go home?
01:35I'm thinking I want to go all the way there.
01:38I want to go a little big, but I still want to have my eyebrows matched.
01:41Blonde is darkened down.
01:43I think it looks good on you, but I think we should take you to a brunette.
01:45I would say taking it back towards your natural color,
01:49but keeping some warmth in it,
01:50so it will add a bit of dimension with tones of brown,
01:53so it, you know, is not one solid color,
01:54but I think this is really going to make your eyes pop.
01:56We won't take it too dark, so it's too severe,
01:58because I think that'll be the wrong way to go.
02:00I think kind of keeping it in the middle will be dramatic enough for you
02:03and make you feel really different.

02:11With brown hair, you have warmth in your hair.
02:12You have pigments in your hair.
02:13We're kind of staining it, if you like.
02:15So when we put the brown over the top, it's a truer, richer color.
02:18So this is not the end result, but it's just like a filler.
02:22I think it's going to be fun to go into work on Monday and people be like,
02:26wait, is that you still and not recognize me?
02:28But I also think it's kind of funny that I have a hidden state tonight.
02:31This guy's going to be like, wait, who is this girl?
02:33I matched with a blonde.
02:34Hopefully he likes my personality, isn't there for my hair.
02:45We used Redken shades to fill the hair and add color pigment to the hair.
02:49Effectively, what that does is allows the base color to sit on top of that.
02:53If I just put a dark on top of the hair, it's going to get wishy-washy.
03:03I think I always have fun regardless of my hair color.
03:06So I don't think that's going to change or stop me.
03:09But maybe being a brunette is going to be having more fun.
03:11I never saw it coming.
03:19The next step was to take sections of hair, root the hair, so add a bit of a darker base,
03:25and then drag that through in sections.
03:27I took triangular sections and took some pieces through to the ends and left some pieces out.
03:31That really was because I wanted dimension in the color.
03:36So then we washed the color off of the backwash and the pieces that I left out,
03:40we then toned to add a little bit more vibrancy so you got a multi-dimensional finish.
03:52I think I'm lucky to be in the position I'm in.
03:55It takes a lot of hard work, I guess a lot of determination.
03:58I've been doing this job since I was nine years old.
04:01I started doing my mom's hair.
04:02I realized that when you give someone good hair, they responded to that.
04:06And that response was really addictive to me.
04:08I guess I felt like it was my superpower, making people feel good.
04:11Because that never goes out of fashion.
04:13I'm excited.
