Transcript
00:00A triple murder at a gas station in Lavantil has ended a relatively peaceful period in the capital city,
00:08according to head of the TTPS's Port of Spain Division, Senior Superintendent Raymond Tom.
00:14The police will have received information of a loud explosion around 9.15 this morning
00:21in the cemetery Uniped gas station on the Eastern Main Road in Lavantil
00:26and our officers from different agencies would have responded.
00:31On arrival, they would have observed the body of three persons lying in the compound of a gas station.
00:37I can say at this time, two of the persons have been identified as being resident in the Mova District
00:44and one of the persons resident in the Lavantil District at this time.
00:48According to police, the deadly shooting is likely gang-related
00:52and says those killed include 29-year-old Michael Campbell of Puy Street, Mova
00:58and 23-year-old Achille Williams of Erica Street, Lavantil,
01:03who police say came to the gas station together.
01:07One was seated in the car and the other filling at the pump.
01:10While 56-year-old Selvan Jack of Chinapu, Mova, a bystander,
01:16was about to pay for gas when the shooting began,
01:18he tried to run to safety but was hit and collapsed near a pump where he died.
01:24What we like is the criminality to stop.
01:28We heard that there was a peace of worry.
01:31It's a forestry division because we have not a murder in over a month
01:35and the last murder, the one and the taxes are was sold
01:38and that was made before the court.
01:39So we have been relatively quiet in forestry and we respected that
01:42but this incident came and we will be moving with great peace.
01:48peace to try to treat it as possible
01:50and ensure that they don't have any follow-up activity when you fight or that such.
01:55At the scene on Saturday, the mother of one of the victims, Achille Williams,
02:00described her son as good, as loving and said he was never a troubled child.
02:07My mother had grief. I love my son. He came in the grocery.
02:11He said, Mommy, pick up everything you want. Everything you want, Mommy, just pick up her.
02:15Ask no questions. No asking no questions.
02:17Just like your mother, he likes to look nice, like this man nice.
02:21He loves all the family.
02:41She says she has no faith in the TTPS to get justice and she will leave it in the hands
02:47of God.
02:48Once in a while, they would see a police and I see how they get to get somebody.
02:52But now they're not getting nobody.
02:54They're just picking up bodies, picking up shells.
02:57They're burying people every day.
02:59They just like what I can see.
03:01The police force is based on time for me right now.
03:04Investigations are ongoing.
