00:38He said the coincidence of both children dying at the same age had made the loss even harder to accept.
00:44Ruiz described his daughter, whom he affectionately called Shianna, as someone who was always trying to make others happy.
00:49He said he left home around 5 a.m. on Wednesday to go fishing, as he usually did.
00:54He said it was only after returning home later that night that relatives told him his daughter had been stabbed
01:00and taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Oak.
01:03He contacted people he knew at the hospital before receiving confirmation that she had died.
01:08Ruiz said he had been told that two suspects were in police custody but had not received much information about
01:14the investigation.
01:14He explained his daughter had taken out a loan of about $10,000 to construct the foundation of a home
01:21she planned to build for herself.
01:22From that money, she had loaned the ex-boyfriend $4,500, which she wanted, to move forward with her construction
01:28plans.
01:29Ruiz said he had spoken with the former boyfriend before the incident and urged him to repay the money to
01:35avoid any dispute.
01:37Investigations revealed that, at about 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday, Shianna Ruiz and another person went to her house
01:43in Edinburgh, where she intended to collect the $4,500.
01:46Police said an argument broke out between Ruiz and the man before his current girlfriend became involved in the dispute.
01:52During the confrontation, the woman allegedly armed herself with a knife and stabbed Ruiz several times about the left side
01:58of her body before leaving the scene with the man.
