00:06Urupuj home, on Monday night.
00:08According to police reports, a series of loud explosions were heard around 9.30pm and when
00:14neighbours checked the area shortly afterwards, they discovered Aaron Lalan bleeding from
00:18gunshot wounds about the body.
00:20He was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.
00:24Investigators recovered five spent 9mm shells at the location.
00:29Reports state that Lalan was charged last month for possession of firearm and ammunition
00:34and indicated to relatives there were threats on his life stemming from an altercation sometime
00:39last year.
00:41Investigators say Lalan was shot at in December but escaped without injury.
00:45Speaking to reporters at the scene today, one relative complained about the level of
00:49crime in the country despite being under a state of emergency.
00:54Unsafe because I thought the crime was going down but it wasn't going to rise because some
01:03people are getting killed and they don't realise that some people have family, you understand?
01:12I feel they need to step up a little more on this crime.
01:15In more crime news, four men were arrested in the South Western Division on Monday for
01:19shooting with intent and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
01:24According to a police report, a woman reported that she was at her home in South Oropuch
01:28around 7.35pm when she observed three men walking outside her premises.
01:34She told the officers that the men then entered the compound and one of them pointed a gun
01:38in her direction.
01:40She then heard a loud explosion and the suspects fled the scene.
01:44A report was made to the police and a short time after, officers intercepted a Toyota
01:49RAV4 with four occupants.
01:51A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of one Taurus pistol loaded with a magazine
01:57containing six rounds of ammunition.
02:00The men, a 28-year-old of Port of Spain, a 32-year-old of Laventille, a 34-year-old of
02:06Mauvin and a 45-year-old of Libre, were arrested in connection with the incident.
02:12In the Eastern Division, officers proceeded to the Comana area where they arrested a 25-year-old
02:18man for possession of a homemade shotgun and four 12-gauge cartridges and a 20-year-old
02:24man for the possession of camouflage clothing.
02:27Investigations are ongoing.
02:34Police searches in Toco and Mayaro have led to the arrest of five persons as well as the
02:38seizure of ammunition, a shotgun and camouflage kits.
02:43The operations took place between midday and 6pm on Monday.
02:47In one operation, a search was conducted along Angles Road in Comana where three houses
02:52were searched.
02:53A 25-year-old man was held with a homemade shotgun and four rounds of 12-gauge ammunition
03:00and a 20-year-old man was found to be in possession of a camouflage kit.
03:04The kit had the markings of the TT Regiment and there was even the name of a private embroidered
03:08on the jacket.
03:09Then, officers made their way to Mayaro where searches were conducted along Mafeking Road
03:15and two men aged 30 and 33 and a 27-year-old woman were arrested after they were found
03:21to be in possession of ammunition.
03:25Two men were arrested in a quantity of US currency seized by officers of the Emergency
03:30Response Patrol during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Port of Spain Division earlier
03:35today.
03:36According to the TTPS, the exercise was conducted by officers of the ERP's Special Response
03:41Unit around 11.20am, during which they stopped a white Nissan TIDA vehicle with two male
03:48occupants in the vicinity of the abattoir.
03:51A search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding US$17,534 in cash in the possession
03:59of one of the men.
04:00The men, ages 31, of Prizer Gardens and 39, of Grenada, were arrested and officers of
04:06the Financial Investigations Bureau were contacted to conduct inquiries into the source and
04:11intended use of the cash.
04:14Investigations are ongoing.
04:17A team of officers who went to apprehend the two murder suspects were attacked by dogs
04:22in Carapo on Monday evening.
04:25About 6.50pm, officers went to detain a 16-year-old boy and a 34-year-old woman who were wanted
04:31for questioning for the murder of Amir Hussain.
04:34However, the officers were attacked by three dogs on the compound.
04:38An officer shot one of the dogs in its right front leg and the three animals then ran off.
