00:00A 29-year-old father of one was stabbed to death by a relative during an argument near
00:06his home on Tuesday morning.
00:08TV6 News understands the victim, Brian St. Paul of Fort George Road, Indian Walk, Moruga,
00:13was walking along the roadway where he lived with a cutlass in hand around 8.30am.
00:20Residents say a vehicle approached him and the man he had been arguing with exited the
00:24vehicle and approached St. Paul with a knife in hand.
00:30My brother-in-law woke up to him, and he ended up striking my brother-in-law with the cutlass.
00:35And my brother-in-law ended up stabbing him.
00:36I think three times he got stabbed in the chest, three times.
00:39And when he stabbed him, my brother-in-law ended up running off and not leaving him.
00:44They said my brother-in-law went in his van and took out a piece of wood and passed through
00:50a piece of bush and come up, which my brother-in-law was lying down, and took the wood and started
00:54beating him in the head with the wood.
00:56He beat him to finish him off.
00:59Police say St. Paul was taken to hospital but died while being attended to by doctors.
01:04The victim's brother described St. Paul as a talker, someone who would provoke, threaten
01:09and tell people all sorts of things.
01:11But he would never act on his threats.
01:13He says the suspect has since been detained by police and issued this warning to others.
01:20Trouble is, I think, easy to come, but very hard to go.
01:23You see, when you hear these kind of things, like you hear an argument or something,
01:26the best thing to do is to just walk away. Forget them. Go your way.
01:30Sometimes people just tell the truth and do things that really get the demon to come out of you,
01:36but the best thing to do is just walk away.
01:39A 30-year-old man from Dundonnel Hills, St. James, was shot after allegedly attempting
01:44to stab officers during a stop-and-search operation.
01:47Around 2.45pm on Monday, WPC Roberts and PC McIntosh, both attached to E999 ERP,
01:55were on mobile patrol when they observed a man tinkering with an object in the waistband of his pants.
02:01This aroused the suspicion of the officers, who stopped the man and attempted to search him.
02:06However, the suspect allegedly became agitated by being targeted and confronted the officers.
02:12He pulled out a knife from his waist and lunged at the police.
02:16The officers discharged their firearms, striking him twice in the legs,
02:20in keeping with the use-of-force policy.
02:23The injured man was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment and later discharged.
02:28He is currently in custody at the St. James Police Station, where charges are expected to be laid.
02:34The scene was visited by a team of officers led by ASP Brown and Inspector De Geale.
