00:01you talked a little about lsu they're going to be opening with clemson that's going to be a
00:04little tiger battle this year i believe last year was in clemson their death death valley this one
00:09will be down in the boot um you know they fired ed orgeron a handful years ago huge buyout
00:16buyout brian kelly to 250 some million dollars spending a lot in nil they had to pay lane's
00:22buyout to come from old miss then pay him a bunch and it's been reported that you know they've got
00:27some cuts that are going on now in the university they were having a big meeting with you know the
00:31governor the board of regents ad everybody that's involved all the stakeholders in the state of
00:36louisiana lsu's always wanted to win they didn't care they're unapologetic about it do you think
00:44we're going to start seeing is this unique to lsu just the uniqueness of the state or that there
00:49might be more upper level officials start getting involved with this and maybe some of the governance
00:54of college athletics bill just with how kind of wild the situation is is running right now lifted or
01:02leave it well i think lifted as well i you you and i are both 80s and 90s movies buffs
01:08i know so they
01:09like that covering their football programs like watching one of those grisham movies it really is
01:13like it's it's great storytelling it's colorful um it's fun it's not always fun probably for lsu fans but
01:21that it's a special culture in college football and you know this but they want to win and and you
01:27said it best your phrasing was perfect it's unapologetic the way that they want to win there
01:32otherwise they don't bring in lane kiffin at the middle of the season to undercut another school in
01:37the conference's playoff run they uh definitely have a lot of pressure on lane uh and i have a little
01:44bit of pressure on sam levitt the arizona state quarterback and this is again a program where the state
01:51the government might get involved it's not just about the fans there so there will be a lot of
01:55pressure on them this year especially in that opener against clemson especially a couple weeks later
02:00when they go to ole miss and play at vaugh-hemingway stadium in a game where you know lane definitely
02:07going to want to win that one they also play at tennessee and alabama this year so it is a
02:11loaded
02:11schedule for the tigers it's kind of how i feel about michigan i think they could go nine and three
02:16or eight and four even but as long as it looks better than it looked when brian kelly and lsu
02:23got beat by remember that texas a&m game last year that didn't look like lsu football our friend jacob
02:27hester i mean he told me a couple days later that just didn't look like lsu football and and it's
02:33got to look like lsu football this year you talk about looking like that and just there's certain
02:38identities that programs have always had and one of the things lsu has always been known for defense
02:42i mean there were times there with less miles where they were rock fights with alabama and you
02:46have the six nine game and it's your first team to 14 if you like might win lsu always had
02:51a good
02:51defense that's the one thing in the last couple years they had a great portal class their defense
02:56was bad last year bill and like that identity of what they were like that to me is what maybe
03:01stings
03:02people the most with everything and it's something that might even be going on a little bit at
03:06alabama where hey you know what the saving maybe our offense wasn't always the most explosive but
03:11we're always great and tough on defense and well coached and both of those you know the
03:15kaylin debord who i think is a good coach that guy thought brian kelly was a good coach but it
03:19seemed like both of those programs maybe now a little bit alabama but lsu already had have had
03:24lost their identity as like tough physical football programs well and and i think the identity stems more
03:31from you know because offensively schemes change right like you ohio state football right now versus
03:37even when you played the offensive scheme changes but the defense is where the identity comes from
03:43you know are they hitting are they playing good assignment football are they are they flying to
03:47the ball are they not allowed i always think with with defensive identity and you you obviously played
03:52it so you tell me more i think it starts with can you shut down the run you know is
03:57somebody just
03:57running all over you that that's the worst when you watch a team just run all over you and that's
04:02what
04:02was happening in that lsu texas a&m game texas a&m was doing whatever they want and so that
04:08identity
04:08defensively ohio states hasn't changed much you know it's always just tough defense it's gotten
04:13better under matt patricia the last couple years and you know when you have that i think the fans are
04:19happy so that's what we'll be watching with lsu as well as much as i've talked about sam levitt
04:24how does their defense play this year because they've they've produced their fair share of uh nfl talent i
04:30mean i'm looking at a project we're doing at sporting news you could form a 2010 secondary
04:35out of just lsu guys so you know where are those guys at the the more uh the patrick peterson
04:41the
04:41morris claiborne uh honey badger those type guys where where have they been the last couple years
04:46they still have them ed the lane was a first round pick
04:50you
