00:00Did you ever think when they opened up the floodgates and took the genie out of the bottle, when they
00:06wanted to pay athletes, we'd be here as we ready for another college football season?
00:12It's it's insane, Dan.
00:14It is, you know, even when it started four or five years ago, I thought, well, you know, they're going
00:19to have some sort of guidelines on this or some sort of salary cap or whatever.
00:24I never expected, you know, eight million dollar contracts for kids playing college football, maybe more than that.
00:32In some cases, your guy down in Miami is making a lot.
00:36It's crazy. It's day to day. It's hour to hour.
00:39You know, I I might get done talking to you and find out that there's been a just drooling, you
00:45know, you're coming back to play.
00:47You've got eligibility, don't you? I don't know.
00:49So back through the portal comes silly. Oh, he's on that defensive line.
00:54That'd be great.
00:56Absolutely, Brad. And I got to tell you, I see high school kids now with two point one million dollar
01:00nil deals.
01:01And there's a list of these high school kids.
01:03Do you think it's in a good place right now, though?
01:06I mean, Brad, here's one thing.
01:08The one thing that I do think that nil is helping college football.
01:13You're keeping the kids in school longer because, again, if you can make more money, I'm going to stay instead
01:19of being a fourth or fifth rounder.
01:20So there's a little bit of a sidebar to that, that, hey, look, you're against the money.
01:25I get it. But it does make the product better when you keep the kids in school more, does it
01:31not?
01:31Do you think it's in a good place right now?
01:34Yeah, I think the product's in a great place.
01:36I think the whole system's in a screwed up place.
01:38I think the product, when you get down and, you know, you start this Saturday and you start watching football,
01:43you go, wow, it's back and it's as good as ever, maybe better.
01:47And you're right, you know, especially even with college basketball, you keep guys around five years and you get those
01:53backcourts that have two senior, you know, guards.
01:56And you got frontcourt people that have maybe been around a little bit, but they played together a lot.
02:01That helps the product for sure.
02:02I just think when we say, you know, five to play five, how many years are you going to school?
02:09You know, we never even talk about that anymore.
02:11I mean, you know, I very seldom go into a players meeting and say, what are you majoring in?
02:16And they look at me like I'm crazy, you know, and they go, well, all my classes are online or
02:20whatever.
02:21I don't know if they ever go to school.
02:23But, yeah, the product's great.
02:25I just think it's the rest of it's kind of a mess.
02:27You know, the conferences are running the show, not the NCAA, and the judges now are running everything, you know,
02:36wherever you might be and whatever the ruling might be.
02:39So it's a day-to-day bizarre scenario right now.
02:43But like I said, when you get to the stadium and, you know, you do your tailgating and you come
02:48in and you watch the game itself, it's a pretty good product, I think.
02:51And maybe even getting better, like you said, because when you get what Indiana did last year and now everybody
02:57thinks they can do that, and that's probably never going to happen again.
03:00But, you know, you do bring in a lot of talent, and if you've got a lot of experience, you
03:05guys, if you had guys that have played 40 games, I don't care if it was in, you know, Division
03:09II,
03:10and all of a sudden they come into a situation where they fit the system, you got guys that are,
03:16you know, 22 playing guys that are 18, you're going to win with the 22-year-olds.
03:21Brad, do you think government intervention needs to take place somehow, somewhere?
03:26Because, again, every state, every program, you know, is going to be under a different jurisdiction because of those state
03:34laws.
03:34How do you bring that all together?
03:36Do they need to be unionized?
03:38Do they need to have one commissioner?
03:40How would you put guardrails around this if you can?
03:44Yeah.
03:44I don't know, Dan.
03:45I mean, you know, I guess they're coming back, you know, coming back in September for the vote in the
03:52Senate or Congress,
03:53whatever the case might be, to save Sports Act.
03:56I don't know if they're saving anything or if they're just screwing it up worse.
04:00I don't know the legalese of all this stuff.
04:02So I get lost in all of that.
04:03And to be quite frank with you, I think fans should forget about it.
04:11It's hard to because you lose players to another team and you're pissed off about that.
04:15And so-and-so went someplace else to make more money, and that made my team weaker.
04:20And I get it from a fan standpoint.
04:22But then the fans that are getting those guys are going, man, this is awesome.
04:25But, you know, without antitrust laws and all that, I don't know how they're going to fix it.
04:30And I don't know what the Great American Save Sports Act, Trump or whatever, beats me.
04:36I don't really know.
