Since prenials like fruit trees take a LONG time to produce, as soon as we got our land I knew I wanted to prioritize and orchard as soon as we could. It’s a significant money ($45-$100/tree) and time (lots of watering, digging holes, fence, mulch, shaping etc the first few years) expense upfront

00:00Hi, I'm Liliana, a pregnant mama of three, and I'm going to show you our orchard today.
00:04This land all used to be woods. Last year we cleared it to this, and now it looks like this.
00:08But something that I've been really prioritizing on this area up on top of our hill and our clearing
00:13is an orchard, because orchards take a long time. Fruit trees like apples and pears and peaches
00:19take several years, most of them like five, from the time that you plant them to be really producing
00:24good fruit. And so while I would love good fruit today, I am taking the time now to get some
00:29of
00:29these fruit trees in the ground so that in years to come we will have beautiful, wonderful fruit and
00:33won't still have to be waiting. So we have a couple apples, pears, cherries, and peach trees, and I am
00:38really, really excited about how well they're doing. My husband is going to work on getting a fence up,
00:42and I have been working on doing something called chop and drop with comfrey. Comfrey is a plant that
00:47has a really deep taproot, and it sends down its roots, it pulls up nutrients from the soil, and
00:52then you can chop it. And as it breaks down, it's going to drop all those nutrients back into the
00:56soil on the top for your fruit trees to utilize, which is absolutely amazing. So, oh, we also have
01:02a couple wild blueberry bushes up here that are making me so, so happy. My husband spent a bunch
01:06of time weed whacking and cleaning up this area, so it looks so much better than it did. Eventually
01:11we will get a fence up here, and for now we're just kind of praying that the deer stay awake.
01:16But follow along for more orchard updates. This is definitely a do the work now, get the reward
01:21later, but we will get our reward later. Oh, we also have blueberry plants. There's like eight blueberry
01:26bushes over here that are beautiful and thriving now that my husband weed whacked all the ferns down.
