I’m so happy with how this area is looking!! It’s been kind of a mess and not on the top of the priority list the last few a years. I did all the stick pulling, drainage, seeding work early this spring, but after Cedar started begging for his own playground 😍 we decided to make the rest of it h...

00:00This side yard area has been a labor of love just like all the rest of our property. If you're
00:04new
00:04here, hi, my name is Lily. My husband Josiah and I bought 22 acres in the woods in the mountains
00:09and we love it but when we bought it it was all straight forest. So now we are slowly turning
00:14it
00:14into a place that we can love and live in, enjoy. And this side yard area, our goal is to
00:19have it be
00:20a very nice like flat grassy area. But let me tell you, the amount of work that needs to go
00:25into it
00:25before that can happen, it's a lot. So the last couple years it's just been wood chipped and we've
00:30been slowly pulling the big stuff out and so this year I went in and I pulled a lot more
00:35of little
00:35sticks out, any of the rocks that we could, and we seeded it and we're going to start pouring grass
00:40here and just kind of see what happens. We have a spring that runs through this area and so we've
00:44also had to include some drainage which obviously need on a hillside and we have mostly hill, like
00:49our whole property's hill. So I've also been working on a little like stone path arch situation which
00:54oh my goodness let me just say has been one of my like favorite things ever. We found a free
00:59playset
00:59for the kids and spent a couple days putting that together and it's really amazing what a couple
01:04months some sunshine, some grass seed, and some hard work can do for an area. So it no longer looks
01:09dead
01:10and neglected and we still have a lot of rocks and sticks and bumps to work out but it is
01:15looking
01:15so much better. The drainage is where we want it and I'm just really excited how this is coming along.
01:20So if you are also doing a homestead thing or you see people doing homestead things let me just
01:26encourage and remind you that it takes time. Like it is a process and it is a lot of work.
01:30It is worth
01:30it absolutely but it's a process and there's a lot of work and things you don't see behind the scenes.
01:35So
