00:06and good afternoon everybody welcome back to the karsh and anderson program
00:10gator with you today along with mark ryan who's in for doug karsh doug will be back tomorrow
00:15uh look forward to taking your calls and texts 248-539-9797 kind of got into a little discussion
00:21about the three players uh here locally that have had their own little situations and how
00:27they're handling it whether it's dylan larkin jalen duran or tarik skuble which of the three
00:33local athletes do you think has handled their situation the best and who's handled it the
00:37worst we kind of started laying out you know the groundwork for what these what the three
00:41athletes are going through as far as ranking it mark who's handled it the best i i i i would
00:51it's
00:51by it's it's by process of elimination right i i think duran's handled his it's backfired
00:57on him so that's poor so he's out dylan larkin is the one that asked to be traded in the
01:03first place
01:04and likely his camp that leaked the story that he wanted out that undermines the ability to try to
01:09trade for him and then he's the one who's got the the no trade clause and just recently opened it
01:15up
01:15to a fourth team for his precious uh no trade list and then there's tarik skuble and i think this
01:21is
01:21going to sound counter to i think skuble's handled the best because skuble's just he look at what he's
01:26done he managed to keep quiet an elbow issue in the offseason that he was feeling in the offseason
01:32but didn't say anything about it creeps up during the season where he gets by the way in the offseason
01:39he gets his arbitration number he gets paid 32 million dollars or whatever it is he wins that
01:44so he's a winner there then he partially through the season he has to have the the procedure done
01:51and everybody's thinking oh crap we just lost the opportunity to trade the ace of the staff and the
01:56two-time cy young order winner and all that and no procedure was a was a beautiful procedure
02:02apparently only kept him out for like five weeks instead of months and three or four months he's out
02:08for just you know four or five weeks and now he's back and he's healthy and you know he certainly
02:15can do whatever he wants to do he could stay in detroit he could you know get up and leave
02:19at the end
02:19of the season and he has these comments coming out where he says he wants to be here doesn't want
02:26to
02:26be traded wants the team to buy but he wants to be he only wants to be here for he's
02:31only committed
02:31to stay here for the rest of the season he thinks this team can win a world series but it's
02:36all in
02:36his favor he may be in in public this looks awful right we there are parts of this we we
02:42hate as fans
02:43even though he says this this team can win a world series and he wants to be part of it
02:47that's all
02:47great but what about after that and that's the part that people are upset about so between the
02:52three for me scoobal has actually handled it the best because somehow he's missed a month of baseball
02:59yet it's not necessarily going to hurt his his trade ability or his market ability at all
03:07he got paid in the offseason for the one-year arbitration with the 32 million dollars and he's
03:14still poised to to make big bank in the offseason he's fine the other two guys who knows what's
03:19going to happen with dylan larkin if he even gets traded because right now he's facing the fact that
03:24he may have to start training camp still as a detroit red wing and jaylen duran thought he had greener
03:31pastures and does not now the pistons still make him a really nice offer and they should make him a
03:36nice offer i think jaylen duran has a lot left on there's a lot of meat left on the bone
03:41there for a
03:4122 years old but nonetheless you banked on himself he thought he was going to get offers and he didn't
03:48get offers so that's where i stand on the three if i had to rank them we're gonna need kang
03:52as a
03:53tiebreaker here because i've got scoobal as handling it the worst like look at least duran who's my number
04:00two he's all about the money and he's pouting now but at least he's honest at least he's clear about
04:07what he really wants and what's important to him okay all you care about is money you don't care
04:12about winning the proof of that is you list in sacramento you're not about winning okay but at
04:16least we know who you are scoobal is the guy lying to your face cheating on you behind your back
04:22and
04:23then he has the nerve to lack the self-awareness to come out and say i want to be here
04:29through the
04:30rest of this season what an absolute slap in the face not only is this sitting in illusia you want
04:37them to lose you for nothing he's handled the worst dylan larkin look it's the red wings fault that
04:44they didn't mandate in their contract in his contract how many teams he has to give him it's
04:50also the red wings fault a listener said to me well if you ask out of a no trade clause
04:54that should void
04:54the no trade clause that also is not in dylan larkin's contract it's not in anybody's right but
05:00he's got the red wings right where he wants them and he's right to ask out he values the end
05:06of his
05:06career dylan larkin is the anti-jalen duran all he cares about is winning so dylan's handling it the
05:13best duran is second scoobal's lying to everybody and then giving you these backhanded compliments and
05:21insulting it he's easily the worst but larkin's also stuck he's got five years left on a deal
05:27so he can't go out for the money cannon contract because he's still stuck in this contract for five
05:31years albeit at a nice salary just under nine million dollars a season paltry by nba standards
05:37yeah but the different different sports so it is what it is the i mean the highest paid player in
05:42nhl is going to get paid 18 million dollars a season but it's paltry by nhl standards too
05:46that's right that's what i'm saying he can't but he can't get out of it he's stuck with the five
05:51-year deal
05:51yeah so he doesn't have the opportunity to try and hold out for more money or whatever or get
05:56that free agent contract because he's not and the reason he's asking out is also partially his fault
06:03because he didn't perform because he's one of these guys that took a nosedive in the month of march
06:08yeah later they were fourth in points when he was playing they were tenth in points when he came back
06:14that's not really on him well but what was the disparity between fourth and tenth five points
06:20they were in it they were first always they were always tight because the conference was tight
06:25but there's no question that he's part of the problem as well i think he's also a big part of
06:32the solution i wish it never got out there i wish he would stick around because if he wants to
06:37if he
06:37stayed committed to the detroit red wings maybe the red wings could have gotten involved for zach
06:41wierenski or somebody else he doesn't want his career to be mike trout's career well and i can't blame
06:47him for that that's why i keep going back and i think to myself there's something went on behind
06:51the scenes between he and steve eiserman that really broke the relationship to the point where
06:57dylan larkin asked to be traded i don't think it was just simply oh i want to win and we're
07:02not
07:02getting it done here i think there were there was something else that went on there 248-539-9797
07:08is telephone number who's handled their situation the best between jaylen durn dylan larkin and tarek
07:14scoobel and who's handled it the worst if you had to rank those three players how would you rank
07:18them got some more uh text coming in uh champ and chump votes chump fifa soccer for 35 minutes
07:25of extra time to make switzerland lose saturday and sunday uh to make them lose saturday and sunday
07:31uh champ pistons summer league win interesting um champ valencia for persevering through the minors
07:41getting off to a hot start i feel like he's almost a unanimous champ what a feel-good story
07:46that he's got a lot of the champ votes yep well because i mean a heck of a start first
07:50first at
07:51bat you had a home run and then you've gone you know five for ten in the four games you
07:54played
07:56that's pretty good with two home runs buddy we had another home run uh chump and scoobel you don't
08:00get to call the shots without an extension well yeah it'd be great if he would like to your point
08:07earlier would he accept a three or 150 million dollar deal from the tigers of course not
08:13i don't know if he would or wouldn't i mean based on with the the other the thing doug and
08:17i always
08:17talk about in this on the show lately lately i always talk about but we've brought it up for
08:21months now the uncertainty of what's going to happen with the collective bargaining agreement
08:27everyone seems to think there's no question there's going to be a lockout the question is
08:30will it affect games like they'll lock you out whenever the the the year ends and if you start
08:37in november 15th or whatever that's the first lockout day sure i can see it that's locked out
08:43but they have all this time to negotiate it will they get it negotiated enough where we're going to
08:47have a full 162 game schedule or or you know a month into the season or a weekend of the
08:52season
08:52whatever the case is like it was in 21 22 they missed i think a week's worth of games and
08:56that was it
08:58and it can still happen but there's uncertainty with with what their their new agreement is going
09:03to be it might behoove him to agree to an extension and agree with like a lot of money up
09:09front well
09:10while this is grandfathered in before the new deal takes place i mean exactly if you are sore like i
09:16am
09:17about how this scoobal situation is being handled by he and his agent love the fact that the owners are
09:23pushing for a maximum salary just like the nba a salary cap and a maximum salary so guess what
09:30scoobs now you can't go to your 10 year 400 million put that down your pipe and smoke it right
09:36like it's suddenly a three-year 150 million dollar deal looks great but i think the fact that they
09:42gave that deal to framber is proof that they would have given that to scoobal but you can't you can't
09:48work with them no i think it is proof that that's why i think that they they know scoobal's camp
09:53no school and boris know that they've got a deal uh if they wanted to come to the tigers that
09:58the
09:58tigers would be willing to pay something that starts with at least a with a four per season
10:02like 40 something um but it may not be enough because they still think that they're going to
10:07get the monster deal from the dodgers or the cubs or the phillies or the yankees or whoever else it
10:14is um and and i also don't think that derrick school wants to play for milwaukee or tampa
10:19which might be the other trade options right now so i think milwaukee's the best don't you
10:24like jesus madei the top prospect logan henderson young stud pitcher i mean i and obviously he doesn't
10:32want to go there and i think that's part of the reason why he's saying he wants to be here
10:36the rest
10:36of the year well and i don't know if they're willing to part with their top prospects to get
10:40terrick scoobal either um because their top prospect is the top prospect yeah in all of
10:45baseball so i don't i don't raise mason miller there's evidence that it's happened yeah but
10:51mason miller had control there are teams that were going to do that i mean the padres were just
10:56you know foolish in doing what they did last year uh anyone that thinks the tigers have a world
11:01series team let alone an alcs team is living in dreamland trade terrick to the cubs they have a
11:09legit playoff team i'm not going to say what he says because i can't stand the cubs uh it's brad
11:13and lansing he just wanted to go to the cubs and kang you're trolling me and i don't appreciate that
11:19i might what i might just send in over text what do you want from me you pick that one
11:23out of the
11:23thousands of texts i'm just sitting back here i'm sitting back here mind my own business am i not
11:27right mark yeah i think i think you nailed it yeah i think you did yeah i want to acknowledge
11:32me gator
11:33try to get me to say that i want to present a counterpoint on the if they make the playoffs
11:37they're not
11:38going to do anything okay we'll get to that next year on 97.1
