00:05karshen anderson here on 97.1 outside comerica park 248-539-9797 i want to make something clear
00:12i'm not against a big trade i just think they're far harder to make than people realize
00:17and you know maybe i'm wrong on this one but i i really the rasheed wallace trade was so
00:25perfect the timing was perfect the player was perfect the the participants i mean that was a
00:32four-team trade when it was all said and done and so i think you need you know when those
00:38moments
00:38come along if a brad holmes a a scott harris if brad if they pass trajan langley they pass
00:50on that kind of trade i'll be highly disappointed highly highly disappointed if they're available
00:56it's it's and we look we've seen some absolute superstars get traded here and it doesn't come
01:04without some pain or a little bit of trepidation i mean it's eventually things work out obviously
01:09you have the the cabrera trade um but the at the time the tigers given up their top two prospects
01:15in the organization and yeah they got cabrera out of it it was amazing um we've seen the red wings
01:22go
01:23out and make a deal for brendan shanahan but it cost them and at the time they had paul coffee
01:28paul coffee and keith primo went um but brendan shanahan was a unique player with a unique set of
01:34being able to score 50 goals a season and rack up 200 penalty minutes i mean he was one of
01:39those
01:40those great players that you would love to have and and they did it's hard to line those up um
01:47did
01:47the red wings air by not pulling the trigger on the quinn hughes deal um you know in the end
01:55i think they probably did you you may think that and that's fine i'm i'm less sure of that because
02:01i think
02:01you're creating a different kind of hole you know quinn hughes is dynamic and i love him but i think
02:07there's so much more to be had from edvinson that we haven't seen yet having a this big giant
02:12defenseman out there let alone all the other players you'd have to give up um and the uncertainty
02:17of being able to sign him that's concern as well but it may have been worth the risk and that
02:21was
02:21one of those that my 51 says i probably wouldn't have done it but it's 51 i could be convinced
02:27otherwise i would have done it but here we go uh juan you're on 97 one hello juan what's up
02:34fella
02:36and man i think it's it's mind-boggling man how so many people have uh already written the
02:42pistons off before the season even started like i'm like the season hasn't even started yet
02:47but one thing me personally i i yes i think trajan could have did a little more but i understand
02:53which
02:53i think a lot of fans don't understand that this is not a vending machine you just can't go to
02:58the
02:58vending machine and say uh yeah i think i'll like that player on the b12 no it doesn't go like
03:04that
03:04i have a friend right every time somebody make a trade when yannis when lebron when jaylor he
03:10he texts me or call me bro bro why we couldn't i said bro this is not it's not a
03:15vending machine you
03:16just can't go pick who you want it's you know other things that have to happen but to make a
03:21long
03:21story short the reason why i think the pistons could could still be a contender go to the finals
03:25the last two champions in my opinion had one bona fide superstar with jaylen brunson and shea
03:31gilch right and and they had other star players and they both played defense and they had good
03:37role players to me carl thomas is not a superstar og is not a superstar and my personal opinion uh
03:43home green and jaylen williams are not superstars they're good stars on the side of their bona fide
03:48superstar so yes chemistry can can outdo a star-studded team any day i would take chemistry all day and
03:55i
03:55think pistons might be one of the best chemistry teams now we need more scoring order uh jordan and
04:00arson don't get me wrong but but and i want to monitor tyler hero even though i know a lot
04:05of
04:06people think he's variability on defense i think he'll be a great figure he's a he's a bona fide
04:11scorer so yeah i mean chemistry would be everything to me yeah and they and you know i i i
04:17feel like
04:17the pistons were really tough to play against last year and part of that was isaiah stewart
04:24and i i'm worried a little bit about losing him i see what they've tried to do they've tried to
04:29make
04:29themselves a much better outside shooting team around cade um we'll see if it works it's i don't
04:36think it's a hopeless plan but they're they're coming back a different team kind of a different
04:41sold to that team more so than they you know they they were people didn't fear their three-point
04:47shooting and they'll have to account for it now they're definitely gonna have to account for it
04:51now okay um so the story by andrew friedman from his 32 thoughts podcast uh talking about detroit's
05:00list hockey writer yeah uh the red wings list of of gm candidates is really really i i think a
05:11lot
05:11of people are confused um on the list according to friedman is andrew thomas who's currently the
05:17assistant gm of the detroit tigers under gm jeff greenberg also a candidate gm jeff greenberg
05:28andrew thomas used to work for the minnesota wild and he's working for the tigers greenberg
05:33had a i think one year with the blackhawks yep
05:37uh he also suggests that florida assistant gm brett peterson along with san jose shark assistant
05:44gm jeff keelty are possibilities he reported that keelty interviewed really well in nashville
05:54i gotta tell you when you when you're an organization
05:59that has been as unsuccessful as the red wings have been for as long as they have been
06:08and you come to the table with an out of box candidate
06:16i am not enthusiastic about that if you're a organization that has been killing it and you
06:26show up with an out of box candidate like an unconventional candidate it always makes you go
06:34what are these guys up to but when you've struggled and failed over and over to meet
06:43the minimum of bars which is make the postseason
06:48i i i can't co-sign on this list of candidates i mean maybe the guys that have been working
06:54in hockey
06:55but the two dudes with the tigers doesn't make sense to me well suffice it to say there are plenty
07:03more candidates in the four that elliot friedman mentioned they obviously they interviewed well
07:06there's apparently a hundred well they interviewed candidates from inside the organization that's
07:12already been done i we're going to hear other names i'm i'm sure um i i don't like these names
07:19uh well i i shouldn't say that i don't like the name of jeff greenberg um thinking out this is
07:26an
07:26outside the box thing this is an analytics forward uh consideration and i don't think it's out of the
07:35realm of possibility that they look at somebody with analytics but i just prefer you to look at
07:40somebody with analytic approach that's been in hockey for more than just a cup of coffee right how
07:45about somebody who's currently in hockey that's analytically minded that's that's fine i guess
07:50to consider and that being said i i don't want that person being my ultimate gm if you want to
07:57make
07:57an assistant gm be the analytics guy that can help you out i'm i'm probably more open to that i
08:03want a
08:04hockey guy i want somebody from a from a winning organization that knows how to build a team
08:09so out of that group of player names you mentioned you know the assistant gm from
08:15florida makes sense to me because florida has been so successful um i i could live with that but
08:20i don't want to go to the detroit tigers to find my detroit red wings gm yeah so i'm uncomfortable
08:28with
08:28this so i used to kind of be in your camp with i don't want an analytics guy running my
08:33organization
08:34but eric tulski who just with carolina had the success they've had is a one of the leaf chief analytics
08:41guys so that doesn't bother me as much and and and here's one of the things about tulski and they're
08:47not going to get him but this is why i'm okay with it and i you know just thinking about
08:51it a little bit
08:52deeper he's an analytics guy in hockey that's my point he's an analytics hockey guy not an analytics
09:00baseball guy he's been hockey for a long time and i i you know you might be like really really
09:07hockey
09:07savvy and still working in baseball i just don't like the idea of a unconventional candidate coming
09:15to an organization that has struggled that's all the way they have i i to me it's just i i
09:20can't get
09:21on board with it that does not excite me and i i think it also might speak to their timing
09:28this
09:29whole thing that eisenberg should have let been let go way before the postseason way before the
09:34offseason started the candidates are thin 97-1
