21:01Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, gave teaching to the brothers and made them strong in the faith.
21:09When they had been there for some time, they were sent back in peace by the brothers to those who
21:14had sent them.
21:17But Paul and Barnabas kept on in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of God with a number of others.
21:26After some days, Paul said to Barnabas,
21:28Let us go back and see the brothers in every town where we have given the word of God, and
21:34see how they are.
21:37Barnabas had a desire to take with them John, named Mark.
21:42Paul was of the opinion that it was not right to take with them the one who had gone away
21:50from them in Pamphylia,
21:52and had not gone on with the work.
21:55And there was a sharp argument between them, so that they parted company from one another.
22:02And Barnabas took Mark with him, going by ship to Cyprus.
22:09Paul took Silas and went away with the blessing of the brothers, travelling through Syria and Cilicia,
22:17making the churches stronger in faith.
22:21Paul also came to Derbe and Lystra, and a disciple named Timothy was there,
22:27the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but whose father was a Greek.
22:33The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
22:39Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, taking him and circumcising him because of the Jews who were there in those
22:46places,
22:47for they all knew that his father was Greek.
22:52But as they went through the tones, they passed on the decrees that had been decided upon by the apostles
22:58and elders in Jerusalem,
23:00for the Gentile believers to obey.
23:04In this way the churches were being strengthened in the faith, and were increasing in number every day.
23:12They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message
23:20in the province of Asia.
23:23When they came to Mycenae, they attempted to go to Mycenae, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them
23:30to do this.
23:31And so they passed through Mycenae and went down to Troas.
23:38A vision appeared to Paul during the night.
23:41A Macedonian man was there, urging him,
23:44come to Macedonia and help us.
23:49After Paul saw the vision, we attempted immediately to go to Macedonia,
23:55concluding that Paul had called us to proclaim the good news to them.
24:01So we put out to sea from Troas and sailed a straight course to Samothrache,
24:06the next day to Neapolis and from there to Philippi,
24:10which is a leading city in that district of Macedonia, a Roman colony.
24:16We stayed in this city for some days.
24:19On the Sabbath day, we went outside the city gate to the side of the river,
24:24where we thought there would be a place of prayer.
24:27And we sat down and began speaking to the women who had assembled there.
24:34A woman named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth from the city of Thatera,
24:41a God-fearing woman, listened to us.
24:44The Lord opened her heart to respond to what Paul was saying.
24:48And after she and her household were baptised, she urged us,
24:54If you consider me to be a believer in the Lord, come, stay in my house.
25:00And she persuaded us.
25:04This is the word of the Lord.
25:07Thanks be to God.
25:13Collect for Peace
25:16O God, who is the author of peace and lover of concord,
25:21in knowledge of whom stands our eternal life,
25:24whose service is perfect freedom,
25:27defend us, your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies,
25:32that we, surely trusting in your defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries.
