00:00When we see this verse, Krishna specifically points upon the virtue.
00:11When we talk about virtue, everybody has a virtue inside of them.
00:17Everybody has a certain quality inside of them.
00:23But yet, we have both inside.
00:26We have good qualities and we have not good qualities.
00:32But specifically in this verse, Lord Krishna said,
00:35it gives a state of a devotee,
00:39what it is to be a devotee.
00:42He said, the man of virtue,
00:45a man who has a certain quality in himself.
00:50He may not know about this quality, but that quality is inherited inside of him.
00:57Bhagavan doesn't call somebody on the path just like that.
01:03Because you have a certain quality inside of you.
01:07That's why he brought you.
01:10But how is our mind?
01:13So, here you have to differ.
01:15He clearly said, the man of virtue, you know.
01:19The man, those who are free from sin, the sin has ended.
01:27He didn't say, everybody.
01:32He classified, he said, those whose sin have been cleansed,
01:38they are the ones who are ready to worship me.
01:43Not everybody is ready.
01:44In this world we have eight billion people.
01:47You know, how many really come to know about Bhagavan Krishna?
01:53I was asking in Istanbul, have you ever heard of Krishna?
01:59Many people have never heard of Krishna.
02:02Not even the name of Krishna.
02:05Amazing.
02:07You know, you will think that the whole world everybody knows about Krishna.
02:12Of course you have a certain group who go around,
02:16and they also bring Krishna.
02:20But then, many people have never even heard of Krishna.
02:26Our shock.
02:28But, nevertheless,
02:32it is true.
02:35That happens only when you have a certain quality inside of you.
02:39A certain grace, which Bhagavan has seen.
02:43Amazingly, you know, I was giving darshan in that country,
02:46in Istanbul, it's a Muslim country.
02:48The crazy thing is that I have more people come for darshan there than in India itself.
02:58It's a bit shocking.
03:00And these people have never even heard of Krishna.
03:04It was their first time hearing Krishna.
03:08So, what did Krishna see in them to call them?
03:12No?
03:12What did he see to grace them of his divine name itself?
03:19There must be something that they have done in their life
03:22that Krishna see in them.
03:24He said, now they are ready to hear my name.
03:27Many have asked, which mantra can I chant?
03:29What can I chant?
03:32So, to hear the name of Shri Hari itself, you know,
03:35it's not something that happened just like that.
03:39That is the man of virtue, the kind of virtue which Bhagavan sees inside.
03:44Maybe that seed has been planted now, it will not generate,
03:47it will not germinate straight away.
03:50But along the road, it will happen deep inside the mind,
03:57this is there.
04:01But how is the virtue of normal people?
04:04Now, let's take a normal virtue of people, how it is.
04:07Normal, you see when we talk about people, you know,
04:11very often into the world, we categorize people into two ways,
04:15good people, bad people.
04:17Now, you people, our devotee are very good people,
04:20or you people which is not good devotee,
04:23you are sinful people created as, you know, you are full of sin.
04:28This is how it is in this world, you know.
04:31The pair of opposites, we see it, even devotees do that.
04:36But Bhagavan said, no, those who are to know me, to worship me,
04:41they are free from that pair of opposites.
04:43So, what does that mean really?
04:46That our action actually, you know.
04:51We are preoccupied always by the dictation of our mind and intellect, you know.
05:02And our body becomes slave in fulfilling all the desire
05:05which the mind and intellect is always dictating.
05:13We never take time really to sink inside, you know.
05:18We like to fulfill all what our mind is throwing out.
05:22We like to fulfill all, you know.
05:26Our body is running like a slave fulfilling the desire of the mind and intellect.
05:36That is what the human being has reduced itself.
05:39The same as an animal.
05:42You have revealed, revealed, revealed,
05:45fall to such a degree that animal is much better.
05:52Don't we want to change that?
05:56Bhagavan said, yes.
05:58What can transform?
06:00What can remove all that sins and change everything?
06:06Who knows one thing?
06:07Nobody is sinful.
06:09The nature of man deep inside,
06:13it is divine potential.
06:15There is divine potency inside of you.
06:19But yet, by keeping, fulfilling the desire of the mind,
06:25the dictation of the intellect,
06:28and running and fulfilling all what the body desires,
06:32what happens?
06:33It dims your inner light itself.
06:37That's why you always postpone for tomorrow.
06:41Because your light is dim.
06:42That inner strength.
06:43If you have that inner strength, you will just do it.
06:46There is no need to wait for tomorrow.
06:48But you lack that discernation inside of you.
06:52You are not free from the pair of opposites.
06:55You are still stuck.
06:57I, mine, me.
07:00Good, bad, and so on.
07:04How can you be free from that?
07:07Everyone gave in that verse itself,
07:09said, thy action.
07:12You know?
07:13How can we change really?
07:14It's by start looking at our action.
07:18When people are into the world,
07:20they say, you have been always into the world.
07:23And what brought you upon the spiritual path,
07:26there is something.
07:28And then that thing which I brought you,
07:30meaning that, yes, now I have to start to look at myself.
07:33I have to change something in me.
07:34I change, firstly, what I have to change is my action.
07:38How I act.
07:40With what attitude I am acting.
07:46Like I said,
07:48no one is born, you know, sinful.
07:51Like some religions say that you are born sinful.
07:54No, no one is born sinful.
07:55It's due to your action by the mind, intellect, and the body itself,
08:00that you become sinful.
08:03You vasanas keep increasing inside of you.
08:09But these vasanas can be also freed from.
08:14This is when you start watching your action.
08:19Which kind of action you are doing?
08:21Which attitude you are doing this action?
08:25Towards bhavan?
08:27Is it godly?
08:28Is it full with that whatever I am doing?
08:33Is it through service to the Lord himself?
08:36Or am I serving my own ego and pride?
08:42When you start to look at that, you see,
08:45then you decide by yourself,
08:47yes, I have to change something inside of me.
08:50It's not about judging anybody.
08:52Look at yourself.
08:54It's not an outer world anymore.
08:58It is an introverted world of realization.
09:03It is an introverted world of reality that you have to start to look at.
09:08So you start to dive inside and start to see your action.
09:13By observing your action, which attitude you are doing in your action,
09:18that action starts to change and transform.
09:23The more you become cautious of your action,
09:29the more you become aware of your action,
09:34the more you get to transform.
09:36All these things start to vanish through just the action,
09:43looking at how you act.
09:45Acting means also how you are thinking,
09:47because an action can't be without you thinking about.
09:51Which means watching of your mind,
09:54watching of your intellect, watching of your desire itself.
09:57So that kind of action starts to reflect on certain things inside of you.
10:03So the things start to forgive,
10:05the things start to getting diminished.
10:09First, the layers of blanket which you have put upon,
10:14which cover that inner light inside of you,
10:18they start to be lifted,
10:23removing through your action, through observance,
10:26through knowing that Bhagavan is not far away.
10:29He is seated inside of your heart.
10:32Your action changes.
10:34By changing your action,
10:37the transformation, the purification of yourself starts to happen.
10:42When that purification starts to happen,
10:46you rise above.
10:48Since it is no more a problem for you.
10:52You are free from that.
10:55Then what happens?
10:57Then there is no judgment.
11:00You come to the point of realizing that,
11:03yes, these people are also the same.
11:06It is God acting in them in a different way.
11:10They have not yet recognized what they hold inside of you.
11:13They have not yet recognized that they are into that delusion,
11:17but they have to come after that delusion to find that true happiness inside of them.
11:22Rising above this quality.
11:26That's what Bhagavan said.
11:28The strictness into the vow.
11:31What does that mean?
11:33It doesn't mean that just I have said something.
11:36No.
11:37No.
11:38It means that I have taken a certain decision
11:42and I stick to that decision.
11:44No matter what happened,
11:47I stick to that decision itself.
11:50They are the one which is steadfast and worship me.
11:54That is my bhagda.
11:56That is my devotee.
11:57My devotee is not somebody which keeps shifting their mindset from left to right.
12:04No.
12:05They have that clear and that single pointedness.
12:10They are not saying,
12:11I am not in confusion.
12:14No.
12:15My devotee is not in confusion.
12:16My devotee knows truly whether they are in the world,
12:19whether they are here into the ashram.
12:22They are clear.
12:24That clarity is present inside of them.
12:29So, that's what is lacking.
12:32When you lack clarity,
12:34of course,
12:35then you will always postpone it for tomorrow.
12:39You will always say,
12:40ah, yeah, I didn't have it now.
12:42Maybe tomorrow I will have.
12:43No, then you will never have it.
12:46Because the more you postpone something,
12:48the more you look, you say,
12:50okay, tomorrow I will do.
12:52Tomorrow never comes.
12:54What happens tomorrow you die?
12:57You have left something unfinished business.
13:01Do you think you can escape that?
13:04No, you will not.
13:06As much as you think that you are too great,
13:08you will be able to escape,
13:09you will not.
13:11You are born for something.
13:13You are born for a certain dharma here.
13:16You can't escape that dharma.
13:19You may be stupid for some time.
13:22You may be crazy for some time.
13:24But that dharma, you will have to do it.
13:29And that is what Bhagavan is saying.
13:32Do everything now.
13:34Because you don't know what is tomorrow.
13:36You don't know what is in the next five minutes.
13:39You come out, a trifold on you, finish!
13:43But that also will happen according to His will.
13:48Nothing happens by coincidence.
13:52And when we observe His plan, it's amazing!
13:57You know?
13:58So when I listen, you know,
14:00even just now I was listening,
14:03when we did the opening of Vita Rukmini temple in Izmir itself,
14:07it was so beautiful when
14:12he was saying, the devotee was saying,
14:14how he decided that this house was Krishna's house itself.
14:18Well, Vita Rukmini's house, you know?
14:20How the plan of it,
14:22we think that, yes, it is short-term planning.
14:24You know, our mind is very limited.
14:27You know, we know only,
14:28okay, let me plan now.
14:29But Krishna,
14:30He has sent each one into this world, you know?
14:35with a specific dharma, you know?
14:39And His plan, He planned it ahead.
14:43You may not have noticed it.
14:45He said, I never knew.
14:47You know, how He bought this house itself, you know?
14:51It was amazing.
14:52He didn't have money, nothing.
14:53He opened the newspaper,
14:56and He saw that
14:58He won the lottery.
15:04and He bought the house.
15:07When He bought the house,
15:09of course at that time they were not devotees,
15:12you know,
15:12but then He realized that, yes,
15:15when you look backward and start to think,
15:19you know,
15:21that is the man of wisdom,
15:25which Bhagavan always talks about, you know?
15:28They observe,
15:29and they see that the Divine Hand
15:33was always there.
15:35I may not realize it at that moment.
15:40I think that, yes, I am doing it.
15:42I am, I say, great.
15:44But no.
15:46There was always His will behind.
15:49His plan behind.
15:53But am I attuned to His plan or not?
15:56Am I attuned to His will or not?
15:58That is when we start to observe ourselves,
16:02observe our actions,
16:03observe our thoughts,
16:05and say, yes, I want to change that.
16:09You know?
16:09My ego is talking.
16:12You know that when your ego talks.
16:15It's always full with yourself.
16:21What is this ego?
16:24It is here today.
16:26Tomorrow it is the one which will make you
16:29the most unhappy
16:31and more miserable.
16:33And you have experienced that throughout your life itself,
16:37you know?
16:38Every time you have listened to your desire of the heart,
16:40desire of the mind,
16:41desire of your intellect,
16:43you know, you have fulfilled it.
16:44Are you happy?
16:45Have you been happy?
16:47No, you have never bring happiness.
16:50Short-term happiness? Yes.
16:52But then what?
16:54Along the road,
16:56the sadness and the misery
16:58was much more.
17:02And that you know about it.
17:07So, when you act, you know,
17:11act now, don't wait for tomorrow,
17:14because you don't know what is tomorrow.
17:18Even if you feel lazy,
17:20just do it.
17:23because tomorrow may not come.
17:26And to leave something
17:30without finish,
17:32meaning you are planning to come back again.
17:35And you don't even know whether you will have the same chance
17:38that you have had in this life.
17:42So, take the opportunity and really transcend.
17:48Become, what Bhagavan Krishna said,
17:51a man of virtue,
17:53a true devotee of Bhagavan himself.
17:57Anybody else? Any questions?
18:00Yes.
18:07Yes.
18:08I wanted to ask about
18:11what is the importance of austerity
18:13in our path of devotion,
18:15specifically in Bhakti Marga,
18:16when this austerity is done with the mood of pleasing God,
18:20of trying to develop this love relationship with God.
18:25Firstly, I will ask you, what do you mean by austerities?
18:29Because that word, austere,
18:31is very austere.
18:34Like, like,
18:36akadashi, restraint of senses,
18:39our speech, positive things.
18:42Is that what you mean, austerities?
18:45Yes.
18:46When you say austerities, you know,
18:48it sounds very dramatic
18:50and very scary.
18:53Look,
18:55why do you think the sages have put all these?
19:00You know.
19:01There is a beautiful
19:03talk between
19:06Bandi and Ashtavarkya.
19:08Ashtavakya, and one of his talks, he asked Rishi Akshavakya,
19:14Deonbandi asked,
19:16can that Supreme State be achieved by fasting and prayer?
19:24And Rishi Ashtavakya said, no, but it can help.
19:34Why do you think he has said that?
19:39You see, all these austerities, what you are saying,
19:44all this fasting, prayer, all this, it is not for him.
19:50Do you think God needs to be purified?
19:53Do you think God needs to be fasted? No, he doesn't.
19:58But we need it.
19:59We need to be purified.
20:04That's why we do that.
20:05We do it to purify ourselves,
20:08to purify our mind, to purify our body.
20:12Fasting, why do we do?
20:14Whatever we eat stays as residue inside.
20:18We may think that it is all expelled,
20:21but no, it doesn't.
20:24It stays inside partly.
20:26So, when you fast, what do you mean?
20:28You are eliminating that.
20:31So, you are making your body more healthy actually.
20:35That's why you fast.
20:37Mind,
20:40our mind is always preoccupied with everything.
20:43Our selfishness earlier I was talking about, no?
20:46How we can change that mind if we don't chant the name of God?
20:50He will never change.
20:53So, we do everything for us to better ourselves.
20:57Not for His sake,
21:00but for our own sake.
21:05You have seen some tradition or some religion
21:09who doesn't have any spiritual practice.
21:12How are they?
21:13They are like animals.
21:16As slight things make them ignite in anger.
21:22That is because they have not worked upon themselves.
21:27Do you think the Atma would just reveal itself like that?
21:31Forget about Bhagwan himself.
21:34But Atma would not just reveal himself
21:37if you have not gone through that purification.
21:40But, of course, there are many ways to go there.
21:45And each one finds which one is best to them.
21:51Once, Tukara Maharaj,
21:54there was a great jnani,
21:57very knowledgeable about the Vedas and Shastras and everything.
22:03And he read about a certain verse,
22:09you know,
22:10in the Veda.
22:11And he could not comprehend it.
22:13And he went to many sages at that time.
22:18He could not get a satisfaction,
22:21you know,
22:22a deep answer for that.
22:24So, he heard about Tukara Maharaj.
22:27So, he said,
22:28okay, I will go and see him.
22:30So, he went to Tukara Maharaj and he asked Tukara Maharaj,
22:34please, you see, I have come to you.
22:36I have a dilemma.
22:36I want to understand something.
22:42But I can't grasp it.
22:45I have listened to discourses from many,
22:47but still I can't grasp it.
22:49Can you please help me?
22:51Tukara Maharaj started laughing.
22:54I said,
22:55a great scholar like you,
22:56I am an illiterate person,
22:58I don't know anything.
23:00About Harinam,
23:01I don't know anything.
23:03Do you want me to tell you
23:06how to solve this great philosophical debate?
23:12He said,
23:13I can't do that.
23:14But the man was so adamant,
23:16he said,
23:17only you can help me.
23:18I said,
23:19okay, fine.
23:20But with one condition,
23:26I will put a blanket over me.
23:31Please don't disturb me.
23:33He said,
23:34okay, fine.
23:35maybe it is his way of,
23:39I say,
23:41listening
23:41to have deep concentration.
23:44Okay,
23:45so,
23:45put the blanket over to Tukara Maharaj,
23:49and
23:51the scholar started chanting the mantra
23:54and explaining
23:56and talking,
23:56talking, talking.
23:57After a length of reciting,
24:03he didn't see any reaction in Tukaram,
24:08you know,
24:08and
24:09there is no reaction in him.
24:11What is wrong with him?
24:13You know?
24:15So,
24:15let me see what he is doing.
24:17So,
24:17he lifted
24:18the
24:20blanket,
24:22and Tukaram had both
24:24fingers in his
24:26ears,
24:27and he was doing
24:29vittal, vittal, vittal, vittal, vittal.
24:33And
24:34he was offended.
24:36The scholar was greatly offended.
24:39He said,
24:40why you do that,
24:42you know?
24:43Is that
24:44bad
24:45that I am doing,
24:46I am telling you,
24:46I am asking you right now,
24:48you know,
24:48is it so bad?
24:49And he said, no,
24:51it is not that it is bad.
24:54Look,
24:55you are chanting
24:57this.
24:58this.
24:59This is for you.
25:00You are a man of knowledge,
25:01you like to feed your mind.
25:04This is you.
25:05And that is your path.
25:06But your path doesn't mean it is my path.
25:09My path is
25:11to chant the name of vittal.
25:13My path is to chant the name of Shri Hari.
25:16You know?
25:17That is my path.
25:19And I don't want to take what is your path and my path.
25:22You know?
25:22I don't want to judge that your path is better or my path is better.
25:26No.
25:27I respect your path.
25:28You respect my path.
25:30This is my,
25:31mine is only,
25:34I don't know anything else about the name of Shri Hari.
25:38But that was so profound
25:41to the,
25:43that great scholar itself,
25:46you know,
25:47that it bring a change inside of him.
25:50And that change
25:52was through the sincerity of Tukaram.
25:56not through
25:58the debate
25:59of
26:00knowledge.
26:04Like Aksha Bakya said,
26:07wisdom
26:08is as old as
26:11the mountain,
26:13the Himalayas.
26:15It's as old as the Ganga.
26:17You know?
26:18But all the Himalayas and the Ganga was always for peaceful reason was given.
26:26Knowledge was given so that men can evolve and transform themselves.
26:33But what have we done?
26:35We have
26:35made
26:38the knowledge,
26:40we have made our,
26:41how say,
26:44whatever
26:44the holy scriptures have been,
26:46we have made
26:46it become
26:48weapon.
26:50You know?
26:51Very often you see
26:52great debate,
26:54each one
26:55want to express
26:56their,
26:57how say,
26:58their knowledge,
26:59the capacity of knowledge.
27:00But if that knowledge
27:01have not helped you
27:02to transform yourself,
27:04have not helped you
27:05to become humble,
27:06you know,
27:06have not helped you
27:07to awake that divine quality
27:09inside of you,
27:11that knowledge is useless completely.
27:13You have not made anything.
27:15You know?
27:15And that I have to tell you,
27:16frankly,
27:17I have made many people
27:18which is so knowledgeable,
27:21you know,
27:21but yet
27:22so
27:23arrogant
27:24at the same time.
27:27And that's what
27:28Tukaram wanted to show
27:30to that great scholar also.
27:33But each path,
27:35you see,
27:35if you are dedicated into it,
27:37it's fine,
27:38go through it.
27:39But you have to come to the point of
27:41having
27:42that transformation.
27:44So, every penance,
27:46every
27:46fasting,
27:48every prayer,
27:49it is about
27:50a personal
27:51journey
27:52of transforming
27:53oneself,
27:54itself,
27:55you know.
27:55That's why
27:56we do it.
27:57Because otherwise,
27:58we would never transform.
28:00You know?
28:01If we just
28:02let it be,
28:04transformation
28:05will not happen.
28:06But that is the engagement
28:07that we
28:08go through.
28:10You know?
28:11So,
28:12don't think that
28:13Bhagavan
28:13is longing for
28:15your penance.
28:16Don't think that
28:17Bhagavan is longing
28:17that you fast.
28:20No,
28:21he don't long for that.
28:22He is full in himself.
28:24He is blissful.
28:25You know?
28:25He is Satchidananda.
28:28But it's about you
28:30transforming yourself into
28:32that Satchidananda
28:33Svarupa also.
28:35So,
28:37Jai Gurudev.
