00:00I'm David Bollorado. The news is brought to you by P.J. Fitzpatrick with their famous lifetime
00:03warranty on materials and labor. Trustpj.com. A contentious meeting at Allegheny County Council
00:09where council members voted to put a pair of questions on the ballot this fall. If they're
00:13approved, they would give council more spending power. One would lift a cap on spending and the
00:18other would give council the ability to set up district offices at taxpayer expense. DeWitt
00:23Walton was one of the six no votes who said he warned his colleagues how he would be voting.
00:27I told you what I was going to do. I said I was going to oppose him and I'm going
00:31to tell you
00:32that you will be held accountable. Each and every one of you will be held accountable by taxpayers
00:40for wasting tax dollars when we're asking taxpayers to pay more. I'm done.
00:45Supporters say the measures would allow county council to become a more co-equal branch of
00:49government. A close vote to outsource bus service in the Chartiers Valley School District is drawing
00:54outrage from parents and drivers. News Radio KDK's Tamara Rush is in the newsroom with the deals.
00:58David, the board voted 5-4 to hire first student beginning July 1st, 2026 and then furloughed 41
01:04district transportation employees. The decision drew strong criticism from many in attendance.
01:10I said it a year ago before I walked in. This is a professional hit job. It was done to
01:15get rid of
01:16the drivers. You sit there and you vote on your numbers. It's safety. You're picking a company
01:23that has one of the worst safety records in the industry. You don't care. You took an oath to
01:30protect our kids and keep our environment safe. You didn't. The district says first student has
01:36committed to hiring all current transportation workers with an eight and a half percent pay
01:41increase. In the newsroom, Tamara Rush News Radio, KDKA. The Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission has
01:46unanimously approved a $4.7 billion transportation improvement program for 2027 to 2030, directing
01:53funds toward infrastructure and transit across a 10-county region. But is that enough? Commission
01:58Executive Director Rich Fitzgerald tells the Big K Morning Show. $4.7 billion sounds like an awful lot
02:04of money. Does. But when you stretch it out over 10 regions, 10 counties in the region, over four years,
02:10over many bridges and roads, it's limited. He says only about 15 percent of that money is going
02:16to new projects. The rest, he says, is continuing funding for ongoing work. Candidates endorsed by
02:21President Trump won sweeping victories in last night's two primary elections ahead of November.
02:26Trump-backed candidates winning from Maryland to Utah, but it was also a big night for New York City
02:30Mayor Zoran Mamdani, as ABC's Phil Tate reports. In New York's seventh congressional district where
02:36Congresswoman Anidia Velasquez's seat was up for grabs, Brooklyn BP Antonio Reynoso fell short to
02:41Claire Valdez, a Democratic socialist and union organizer who picked up the endorsement of Mayor
02:47Mamdani. Here in the 10th congressional district, former city comptroller Brad Lander unseated
02:52Representative Dan Goldman. Lander was also endorsed by the mayor, while Goldman was endorsed by
02:58Democrats, including Governor Hochul.

03:04Cole Young hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning in his first major league back home to
03:08lift
03:08the Seattle Mariners to a 3-2 victory, we should say, over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 22-year-old
03:14second baseman's drive into the right field bleachers kept the Mariners in first place in the AL West.
