00:00President Trump says he's willing to work with Democrats after the Republican Party's defeat in the midterm elections.
00:06Democrats flipped at least seven seats in the Senate and more than two dozen in the House.
00:10Here's ABC's Jay O'Brien.
00:12Democrats I talk to say that they are willing to work with President Trump on what Hakeem Jeffries said to
00:18me some days ago
00:18is common ground that they may or may not have with the president,
00:21but they're also focused on this agenda of accountability,
00:24this stream of investigations that they are expected to spin up in the early days of January
00:29when they really take power in the Congress, into President Trump, and into his administration.
00:35Southwestern Pennsylvania's congressional incumbents are all headed back to Washington.
00:40NewsRadio KDK's Tamara Rush has details in the newsroom.
00:43Paul Republicans Guy Rushenthaler and Mike Kelly, along with Democrat Summer Lee,
00:47won re-election in her 14th, 16th, and 12th districts.
00:50Democrat Chris DeLuzio also won a third term representing the 17th.
00:55DeLuzio spoke with the KDKA radio about why he believes voters sent him back to Congress.
01:00Look, I think folks saw me doing the work, delivering the federal money,
01:03helping on constituent cases, and fighting hard for all of us.
01:07Political analyst Doug Saltzman raised the possibility
01:09of DeLuzio running for the U.S. Senate on the Big K Morning Show.
01:13Folks, my question, does he have the oomph to run for U.S. Senate?
01:17He does now. He won big time.
01:19Saltzman also sees former Congressman Conor Lamb as a potential contender for the seat.
01:24In the newsroom, Tamara Rush News Radio, KDKA.
01:27Josh Shapiro has won a second term as Pennsylvania's governor,
01:30with the Associated Press calling the race one minute after the polls closed.
01:34Governor Shapiro told supporters last night the people have spoken.
01:37They want us to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.
01:42They want us to build more housing and strengthen our infrastructure.
01:47Shapiro prevailed over Republican challenger Stacey Garrity, 62 to 37 percent.
01:53In Pennsylvania, Democrats are poised to control both legislative chambers as well.
01:57The statehouse Democrats right now have a 108 to 86 advantage over Republicans.
02:02In the state Senate, it's 24-24 with two races undecided.
02:06News Radio KDKA's David Bollorato has more.
02:09One of the seats Democrats poured a lot of money and time into was the 44th statehouse district seat held
02:14by Republican Valerie Gatis.
02:15And they succeeded in flipping that district, with Democrat Hadley Haas narrowly defeating the incumbent.
02:20But perhaps tonight's biggest surprise, though, is where the Democrats lost a seat they had just won in a special
02:26election in August.
02:27Republican Scott Timko winning back the seat held by Brandon Dukes by about 575 votes.
02:33And another major GOP win is in the state Senate, where Cameron Bartolotta earned a fourth term in office by
02:38defeating independent candidate Jody Borrello.
02:40And in the 40th district, incumbent Natalie Mihalik defeated John Lloyd by three percentage points.
02:46Now the results of two high-profile referendums.
02:49Here's News Radio KDKA's Pat Septak.
02:51The ballot question that would allow Allegheny County Council to lift restrictions on hiring personal staff, obtaining health care, and
02:58other fringe benefits went down overwhelmingly in defeat.
03:02Those who supported the measure argued that council needed more staff to function properly.
03:06But the proposal faced a lot of pushback from critics, including callers to the Colin Dunlap Show, who said they
03:12were confused by the wording of the ballot question.
03:14And in Butler County, voters in Mars and Adams Township have elected to merge.
03:20Come January 1st, 2028, the two communities will become one municipality called Mars Township.
03:27Pat Septak, News Radio KDKA.
03:30From the Zero Res Commercial Sports Desk, Thomas Hertel scored with 32 seconds left in regulation, and the Golden Knights
03:36beat the Penguins 3-2.
