00:00Give me a little bit of a break here
00:01before we jump back into the Ocho Cinco stuff, all right?
00:04Give me a little bit of a break.
00:07Is Bazzano all we need to keep us above board here
00:10until Jose Ramirez comes back, until DeLauder comes back,
00:12which I'm worried about rib injuries
00:14until Angel Martinez comes back?
00:17Because it doesn't seem, like,
00:18I was listening to Justin Latta over the weekend,
00:20and, like, I totally agree.
00:22I just don't think it's going to happen.
00:23And because it's my own little conservative theory
00:26or my own conservative head popping in going,
00:29well, we're still in first place.
00:30What's the point?
00:31But, like, you talk to a baseball guy like him
00:34who knows what the hell he's doing,
00:35and it's like, hey, you know what?
00:36Cooper Engel isn't getting any younger down there on the farm.
00:39And Cody Huff isn't getting any younger down there on the farm.
00:42And meanwhile, you guys have Petey Halpin up here,
00:45and I mentioned Stuart Fairchild as well.
00:49And I just immediately say, no,
00:52we don't need to do these things yet
00:54just because we're in first place,
00:55which I understand to a lot of people.
00:57It's not the way to look at things.
00:59I mean, they got Chicago for three starting tonight,
01:02but I understand that it's just not the way to look at things
01:05to guarantee future success.
01:06Because I will tell you,
01:08who would I rather give the at-bats to in the bigs?
01:10Would I rather give it to a guy like Engel,
01:11or would I rather give it to Stuart Fairchild?
01:13I'd rather give it to Engel.
01:14Okay?
01:16And, you know, the Reese Hoskins thing
01:18has been brought up several times.
01:19You kind of knew what he was.
01:21We'll see where that goes.
01:22But I'm just not in a mood.
01:24I know they haven't been great throughout this road trip,
01:27and they haven't been great in the month of June.
01:28And they're not going to be.
01:30I mean, the injury situation, there's no chance.
01:33I mean, their pitching is...
01:35Yeah.
01:35Their starting pitching is their chance to save them,
01:38just keep them afloat.
01:39Because the lineup they are trotting out,
01:41you know, from night to night.
01:43Yeah, good luck, right?
01:44And I know they brought up Watson,
01:47and he's looked completely overmatched.
01:49Like, they just don't have...
01:50I mean, you're seeing the difference.
01:52They don't have answers.
01:52And for anybody that's like,
01:53hey, make some trades.
01:55Why would anybody make trades right now?
01:57Everybody is in it,
01:58with the exception of, like, the Giants.
02:00Even the Mets.
02:01The Mets are five and a half games back.
02:02They're not going to start trading.
02:04They're not going to get rid of anybody.
02:05No.
02:06In the whole conversation
02:08about a couple of those guys with the Mets,
02:09like, they're crazy.
02:11I don't trust the Mets at all.
02:12I'd be very surprised
02:13if they had some sort of a fire sale.
02:15Everybody's kind of in it,
02:16whether it be the National League
02:17or the American League.
02:18You got a month
02:18before anybody seriously starts to unload.
02:21Who's going to be your sellers?
02:22I mean, look at the wild card right now.
02:23How far...
02:24It's June 22nd.
02:26How far away is too far
02:28on the wild card right now?
02:29Because you have the Angels
02:31who are seven games back.
02:33Six and six and a half games back
02:34is Boston and Kansas City.
02:36Detroit's five games back.
02:37I don't think Detroit's
02:38giving up on anything, are they?
02:39No.
02:40So if Detroit's not giving up on anything,
02:41there's three teams right there
02:43that...
02:44And Houston's only two games back
02:45on the wild card as well.
02:46They don't seem like a team
02:47that's going to be selling off everybody.
02:48The Mets are six games back.
02:50I already said you can't count on the Mets.
02:52The Reds are only two and a half games back.
02:54They actually, because of their market,
02:55because of their history,
02:57maybe they would be willing to do things,
02:58but I still don't think that they would.
03:00The Giants and Rockies,
03:01so there's four teams out of 30
03:02that might be willing to offer.
03:04So that's the thing we keep...
03:05You're going to have to wait
03:06until the trade deadline
03:07to do anything, guys.
03:08I mean, it's that simple.
03:09We keep talking about
03:09not only the division,
03:11but the American League,
03:12the gift that keeps on giving,
03:13but where it's the opposite of that
03:15is in the trade market.
03:17Because nobody is super motivated.
03:19I know, obviously,
03:20we made the one deal for the catcher,
03:22but nobody's super motivated at this stage.
03:26You're going to have to wait.
03:27So if I'm going to...
03:28And that was a team that already knew
03:30that they were probably going to make
03:31some difficult decisions,
03:32and they probably still are.
03:33I mean, again,
03:34they're nine games back in the wild card over there,
03:36and they're significantly under .500.
03:38It's not a very good season for them.
03:39So there's about four teams
03:41in all of Major League Baseball
03:43that right now you could say
03:45they'd be willing to deal with you.
03:46I mean, it's just not that much.
03:48And so, yeah,
03:49I don't think you're getting anything
03:50until mid-July
03:53during the All-Star break
03:54is probably when some things will heat up here,
03:56and we'll figure out more who we are.
03:58We got three more on the road,
03:59then we got a nice homestand,
04:01and then we'll see where we're at on these things.
04:03But a lot of this stuff...
04:04Again, I was getting tweets and texts
04:06and baseball fans jumping in saying,
04:08Guys, you've got to wait until June.
04:09You see how tough June is.
04:11And it's been a tough month for him.
04:13And having three guys injured in one game
04:15isn't going to make the situation any better.
04:17But we do have to show love to Bazzana
04:19because what he did on Saturday
04:22was extraordinary.
04:23And he is not...
04:24Like, we were joking,
04:26maybe not even...
04:27Maybe it was half-joking
04:28about an All-Star,
04:30a legitimate All-Star bid
04:32because you look at his position
04:34in the American League,
04:35he's actually outperforming
04:37almost everybody.
04:39And now you're starting to
04:40have to take a wider view of this
04:43and look,
04:43not just in the American League,
04:45like, all of Major League Baseball
04:47and as far as, like, a middle infielder
04:49and how he's performing,
04:50this has been outstanding.
04:51I'm perfectly fine with where Bazzana is.
04:53I'm perfectly fine with him.
04:55I think there's...
04:55He's right on schedule
04:56for so many things.
04:59And it is a relief
05:01considering that he was number one overall,
05:02but there's so many things there.
05:04I just don't want to put too much on him.
05:05But, you know what,
05:06as I say that sentence,
05:07it's like, well, you know,
05:08let's get through the month of June.
05:10Let's see where we are at.
05:11We got three coming here
05:12against the White Sox here
05:13tonight, tomorrow, and Wednesday.
05:14We'll see where we're at after that
05:16because I think there's a lot of conversation
05:17that still needs to happen.
05:18I'm hoping that DeLauter's only 10 days.
05:20I'm hoping that Martinez is back
05:22at some given time here.
05:23I'm hoping that Jose is back
05:24in some given time here.
05:26There's a lot of things to work out
05:27because I just don't think
05:29there's that many trade partners
05:30because everybody's kind of still in it.
05:32And plus, with this work stoppage coming up,
05:34I cannot talk baseball
05:35in big picture without talking about it,
05:37the possible work stoppage coming up.
05:38I don't know how many
05:40really want to liquidate
05:42if they're not that far out
05:44considering that, hey,
05:45maybe when we get to the postseason,
05:46get some fans on our side,
05:47and we'll see where we go on stuff.
05:49216-474-0092.
05:50Zach Jackson going to join us at 9 a.m.
05:52All right, here's the Ocho Cinco audio
05:54that I said I was going to play.
05:55He might have given away
05:56who just who the hell
05:57is the starting quarterback.
05:59According to some people,
06:00this is courtesy of the Nightcap Podcast.
06:02Hit it.
06:03Cleveland Browns fan or not,
06:04Deshaun Watson is the starting quarterback
06:06for the Cleveland Browns.
06:07The job that Deshaun Watson
06:08is going to get, Uncle Joe,
06:10it is his job to lose.
06:11He has six weeks.
06:12I guarantee you,
06:14listen to me now,
06:14I'm telling you,
06:15I'm calling it right now, Uncle Joe.
06:16He has six weeks
06:18to make sure that team is playing
06:20above or better
06:21than whatever the expectations may be
06:23for that team and that quarterback.
06:25If he's not,
06:26Shador Sanders will fall in line
06:28as the backup
06:29and be the starter
06:30for the remainder of this season.
06:32So that's Chad Ocho Cinco
06:34talking about it.
06:35One of the reasons
06:35that were used in it apparently
06:37is because Deshaun Watson
06:38was working out with Jerry Judy,
06:39which is something I asked you
06:41over the wintertime
06:42because we saw the Instagram stories
06:43of them working out.
06:44And Jerry Judy,
06:44they had,
06:46was spending time
06:47with the guy
06:48that was just talking.
06:49And so people are putting
06:50two and two together
06:52that, oh,
06:53the leaks are coming out.
06:54Like these players
06:55are getting ready
06:57for Deshaun Watson
06:58as the starter,
06:59which is not all that different
07:01from what we had been hearing.
07:02Remember, Mary Kay
07:03was the first to have
07:04the report that this thing
07:05was set up for Watson.
07:06Now, since then,
07:06Mary Kay's been like,
07:07hey, here comes Shador
07:08and Terry Pluto's
07:09written about here comes Shador.
07:11And then some national guys
07:12have taken the local reports
07:13and stuff they're hearing
07:14and say,
07:15here comes Shador.
07:17But, you know,
07:18if you were to bet on it today
07:20with obviously, what,
07:22four and a half or so weeks
07:23until we get into
07:24real training camp
07:25and then training camp
07:27competition is on,
07:28like,
07:29where do you think the,
07:30sorry,
07:31we just did Sorsby
07:32the last few segments,
07:33but where do you think
07:34the smart money is on
07:35for who's going to be
07:36under center week one?
07:38I would imagine
07:39the betting favorite
07:39would be the veteran
07:40Deshaun Watson.
07:41That seems like it, right?
07:42Yeah.
07:42I mean,
07:43if you're putting money down,
07:44you would say Watson.
07:45But what he said,
07:47what Chad Ochocinco said,
07:49Jerry Judy can say
07:50whatever he wants to,
07:51whoever he wants.
07:52I think a lot of people
07:53are still up in the air
07:54whether or not they really
07:55want Jerry Judy here
07:55for the season anyway.
07:57But I go back to what
07:58he's saying in just so much
08:00of it is that,
08:01yeah,
08:01it would probably be set up
08:02for the veteran,
08:04for a guy like Deshaun Watson.
08:06Now,
08:07it encourages me
08:08to some degree
08:09because I'm a guy
08:10who just,
08:11I want to see what
08:12possibly the future
08:13can hold.
08:14There's no future to me
08:15with Deshaun Watson.
08:17There's only a,
08:20really
08:21arduous past
08:22of arguments
08:23about whether or not
08:24he can,
08:25whether or not we should,
08:26all that other stuff.
08:27It just represents
08:28a bad era of football
08:30for me.
08:31And I,
08:32it's part of the reason
08:33I'm so passionate
08:34about the argument
08:34between the two QBs
08:36because I'd like somebody
08:37to give me a chance
08:38to look forward to something.
08:39Even though the odds
08:40aren't that great,
08:41I would like the chance
08:42to look forward to somebody.
08:44And so,
08:45yeah,
08:45I hope that Shador Sanders
08:46takes the job.
08:47And I'm,
08:47I'm,
08:47I'm given some,
08:49I'm given some good feeling
08:51that he's,
08:52he's back into the fight
08:53and we'll find out here
08:54in six weeks
08:55that this is still
08:56an open job
08:56coming up here
08:57during training camp.
08:58But it doesn't make me
08:59feel any better
09:00about the QB room
09:01because,
09:01I mean,
09:02my God,
09:02if you have a guy
09:03who is behind
09:04on his development
09:05when it comes
09:06to the Browns,
09:06behind on his development
09:08when it comes
09:08to the NFL,
09:09has to have a new
09:09head coach come in
09:10with a new offense
09:11and all the other
09:11new things,
09:12and plus you kind of
09:13didn't set him up
09:14the right way
09:14and now he's got
09:15to overcome all this
09:16and that the quarterback
09:17that she gave
09:18all the money to
09:19and gave up
09:20the three first round
09:20picks for
09:21is struggling
09:22to beat him out.
09:23I'm going,
09:23yeah,
09:23maybe our QB room
09:25is that bad
09:26as it is.
09:28Maybe we are set up
09:29for 2027
09:30in that QB room.
09:31I think that's been
09:32one of the bigger debates.
09:33Is it if,
09:34if,
09:34is it that
09:35Shador is
09:37moving up,
09:39closing the gap?
09:40I've seen that
09:41talked about.
09:42Or is it that
09:43both are
09:45underwhelming
09:45to Todd Munkett
09:46who,
09:46who was,
09:47who was Todd Munkett's
09:48quarterback the last
09:49few years?
09:49Lamar Jackson.
09:50I understand.
09:51How do these guys
09:52look?
09:52I mean,
09:52I know he keeps
09:53saying,
09:53oh,
09:53you got two
09:53starters here.
09:54But I think if
09:55Shador was struggling,
09:57if he was struggling,
09:58I think that he would
09:59still be behind
10:00and it would still
10:00be the Watson
10:01conversation.
10:02So as he's
10:03gotten better
10:04throughout now,
10:05some things are
10:06clicking as he's
10:07gotten better
10:07and Watson just
10:08still hasn't taken
10:09off.
10:09Yeah,
10:10I think you look
10:11at it.
10:11How many bronze
10:11fans would rather
10:12Shador Sanders start
10:13for them this year?
10:14If you're picking
10:14between the two,
10:15I'd say seven out
10:16of 10,
10:16maybe eight out
10:17of 10 would
10:17rather have
10:18Shador Sanders
10:18play for them.
10:19So maybe they
10:20look at it and
10:20they go,
10:20okay,
10:21we don't know
10:22how great this
10:22season's going
10:23to be.
10:23Now I'm not,
10:24I'm not inviting
10:24the business
10:25partners and stuff
10:26in my,
10:26my coach's room
10:27here,
10:27but we got to
10:28think about what
10:29we're doing this
10:30year and what
10:30we're doing for
10:31the future.
10:31If you're
10:31involving Andrew
10:32Barry and I
10:33just don't see a
10:34future with
10:35Deshaun Watson,
10:36the best chance
10:37at a future is
10:38with Shador Sanders.
10:39So yeah,
10:40I want Shador and
10:41I think they want
10:41Shador to step up
10:42there and take
10:42that job.
10:43So it might be
10:44going a little bit
10:44better as,
10:45as planned in that
10:47regard,
10:47wouldn't it?
10:48Or am I wrong?
10:49I could end up
10:49being wrong.
10:50Maybe they don't
10:50care about either
10:51of them.
10:51They're just going
10:52to go,
10:52well,
10:52if Deshaun can't
10:53do it,
10:53then what the
10:53hell?
10:54Well,
10:54the stuff that we
10:55are not privy to,
10:56like we are,
10:58the fine thing is
10:58we're privy to
10:59almost nothing.
11:00All we do is see
11:01some cut-ups
11:01from a bunch
11:03of,
11:04you know,
11:04guys playing
11:05and not pads,
11:06no real pass rush.
11:08And so we're just
11:09basing everything
11:10on about five
11:11throws per practice,
11:12right?
11:13Kind of comical
11:14because we're not
11:15in the meeting rooms.
11:16We're not with
11:16the position coaches.
11:18We're not with
11:18the players.
11:19Like we have
11:20none of that
11:21information.
11:21So like how
11:22quickly,
11:23because you know,
11:24Deshaun's been in
11:24the league.
11:25So for Shador,
11:26it's been how
11:27quickly is he getting
11:28acclimated to the
11:29playbook and the
11:30installs?
11:30And the reads
11:32and what he's
11:33understanding at the
11:33line of scrimmage
11:34and the processing.
11:35And of course,
11:36with no real pass rush,
11:38it's hard to even,
11:39even for the coaches
11:39to come up with
11:40a lot of that.
11:41So,
11:42hey,
11:42it would have been,
11:43would have been nice
11:43that Todd Munkin
11:44proclaimed somebody
11:45a starting quarterback
11:46now.
11:47The reality is,
11:48how is he going to
11:49be able to do that
11:49until we see
11:50real practices,
11:52real 11 on 11s,
11:54real,
11:54real bullets flying,
11:56hey,
11:56joint practices
11:57with the Buffalo Bills?
11:58I think what might
11:59have happened here
12:00during this process
12:01is Todd Munkin
12:03liked more the
12:04thought of Deshaun
12:05Watson and what
12:06Deshaun Watson
12:07used to be rather
12:08than the reality.
12:09After all the
12:10injuries,
12:11after all the
12:11criticism,
12:12how he's not
12:13responded and got
12:14back to the old
12:15quarterback that he
12:15used to be here,
12:16I think so many
12:17times we've wondered
12:19what could have
12:19been.
12:20And I think Todd
12:20Munkin probably got
12:21worked up into that.
12:22So yeah,
12:22if there's anything,
12:23I think this is a guy
12:24who apologizes for
12:25very little of
12:25anything he's ever
12:26said,
12:26but I think the
12:27whole conversation
12:28about wanting to
12:29have that starting
12:29quarterback by the
12:30time OTAs came,
12:31or by the end of
12:32OTAs,
12:32I think that that's
12:33a sentence he'd
12:34like to have back.
12:35I think that's a
12:35point he'd like to
12:36have back because
12:37you go in thinking,
12:39all right,
12:39because you want
12:40him at the end
12:40of the OTAs,
12:41here's Watson,
12:42and now it kind of
12:42makes it look like
12:43your whole QB room
12:44isn't going to be
12:44good enough here.
