AJ Hinch has some blame to be put on him for the Tigers failures this season.
Transcript
00:00and i think it's fair i think it's fair for us and i mean anybody i kind of held off
00:05a little bit
00:06to be more critical of aj when guys are healthy now they did lose glaber in this series and the
00:11game that that you know is is going to haunt them is the one where they made all the defensive
00:16mistakes they should have won this series they didn't make the plays in the field that weren't
00:22their major league plays it was it was mcgonagall bobble on the ground at the third and how you
00:27lee not knocking that ball down that got to the outfield that allowed two runs to score instead
00:31of one run to score and you're gonna have days like yesterday they did win that first game yeah yes
00:38and a pass ball a lot of run to score so that that was the tuesday game that bothers me
00:45more than the
00:46wednesday game did but the wednesday game in fact my guess is he put out the lineup that people would
00:52want to see with in terms of the order and he didn't mess with it at all did he it
01:00wasn't one
01:00pinch hitter in that game yesterday no none so you know i that this is something that people have
01:08screamed about right just let your guys play blah blah blah and he did and they didn't do anything but
01:14that happens in baseball i'm not saying that it's not you know they shouldn't do more of this or less
01:19of this all i know is that i do i am pissed off that glaber's hurt just because i we
01:27aren't going
01:27to get another great read of this team it feels like of what they could be and he's going to
01:34be a
01:34while so scott i guess i'm just going to be a little bit just making an announcement here i guess
01:40i'll be a little bit more harsh at aj as they've gotten more healthy and now they're getting pitching
01:44back so you know i a very disappointing road trip yeah it is a very disappointing road trip and the
01:53injury now for glaber torres and him being back on on the injured list it sucks uh saw this uh
02:02tweet
02:03yesterday from chris brown who's part of the uh tigers ml report he tweeted this out so the 2026
02:09tigers with glaber torres in the lineup 23 and 20 and they average 4.81 runs per game without glaber
02:18torres they're 7 and 24 and they average 3.03 runs per game i mean that's that's tangible proof
02:28that that guy makes a difference now carrie carpenter out for a lot of those games as well
02:32yep and scoogle out for you know that entire time also um that that's all plays a role into it
02:39but i
02:39think when all is i feel like glaber's the keystone glaber is a key yeah i mean having a near
02:44400 on
02:45base percentage for a guy at the top of the lineup i mean he just gets on base and when
02:50you have a guy
02:50like kevin mcgonigle who also has like a 400 on base percentage he just gets on base oftentimes you're
02:56going to start a first inning or have an inning with two guys on base because these guys just do
03:00it
03:00um and it's important they're table setters and and it gets everything going for this team and
03:06with torres out again that's hard it's really hard to replace um because finding guys that have that
03:14kind of an on base percentage they don't fall off trees you know you have them you covet them and
03:18you
03:18hang on to them and it's going to be tough for the tigers to to move without torres now it's
03:23not like
03:23they can't i mean they've got options and right now the option was simply what we had to activate
03:28casey mize but i wonder what happens before tomorrow night's game are they going to make some
03:33some more changes here you know looking at things over the weekend you're going to add verlander to
03:39the to the roster as well so somebody else has to come up you're looking at um the the player
03:46roster
03:46as opposed to the pitching roster i think they're going to have to add somebody at some point here and
03:50obviously we're talking about uh getting rid of jami jones we've we've said that before and now this
03:56series with houston's over and he didn't have a hit against uh over the weekend or against uh houston
04:03so um no no cleveland hits no houston hits i think it's the writing's on the wall it seemed like
04:09aj
04:10hinch set that up like okay he's gotta he's gotta prove himself and he didn't so will will there be
04:17a change there will jami jones be dfa'd or sent down twitter okay and i expect it and now's the
04:25time to do it it probably will happen tomorrow to be honest with you i think those usually happen
04:29right before the game or the announcement happens that you know by two o'clock tomorrow duck yep yes
04:35expect an announcement two o'clock tomorrow right all right um but it has to happen and then so what's
04:40the course is a corresponding move going to be to bring somebody like jace young up or is it you
04:47know one of the aforementioned that from weeks ago one of the these outfielders i've mentioned cory
04:52jokes or mel gary or others or are they going to wait until sunday and just say yeah no we're
04:58activating
04:58verlander and we'll send somebody else down well and that brings us to the weird story that is
05:03verlander the headline in or the tweet that evan petzled set out to to lead to his story to link
05:09to his
05:09story was the following justin verlander uncertain about health as he returns to tigers for sunday's
05:16game but nobody sees the point in trying to delay this any further some of the quotes in the story
05:23because he's had one appearance this year we need to figure out what this looks like and if i'm capable
05:28to go out there and do what i need to do physically to compete it's that time in a perfect
05:34world everything
05:34can be 100 and good to go and i feel like i did five years ago it's just not the
05:39case right now
05:40nobody sees the point in trying to delay this any further you got to figure it out and figure out
05:45where
05:46you're at game intensity is the only way you know he's got one appearance and i will just say this
05:54if
05:54you're a tiger fan that loved justin verlander okay if you loved justin verlander and it excited
06:02you that he is back and you couldn't wait to see him pitch for the tigers i would advise you
06:08to go
06:08sunday why is that doug this doesn't feel like it's trending in a direction that justin verlander
06:18is going to be healthy or good enough and i i when you hear quotes like there's no point delaying
06:26it
06:26any further what does that even mean i feel like the next sentence is it is what it is right
06:34i i everybody involved whether it's verlander or aj hinge scott harris you know all the people
06:40together making this decision along with team doctors they're like well i mean we're not going
06:47to know unless you get out there and pitch in a game how it's going to work yeah we can
06:52do a
06:52simulated game means one thing we can do a a rehab stint in the minors that's something else but this
06:57is major league baseball and jv is hoping that you know something else in his body is going to click
07:01because it's all of a sudden you know a big league game in front of probably 30 000 plus fans
07:07at
07:07america park on sunday maybe the adrenaline kicks in and and he feels better but it is a strange
07:15conversation that he had with the media with evan petzel
07:19doesn't that sound like a guy who's i'm at my wits end physically i'm not getting any better
07:29we're going to give this a shot look maybe this is just setting the bar really low
07:36yeah or i don't know if he's playing mind games with with the white socks or what the case is
07:41i don't
07:42think that is necessarily but i'm just throwing anything out there to try to figure this out because
07:45this is just a strange sequence of words he's used the other thing i found strange you mentioned
07:51that uh you know i'm not gonna feel like i did five years ago and i'm thinking i don't i
07:56want the
07:57jv we saw last year in the second half of the second half of the season but that's the guy
08:01i want to
08:01see i he nobody can possibly be surprised that you don't feel the way you felt five years ago i
08:05mean
08:06i'm not being critical of that but but he's like 43 years old but are you really putting a really
08:10realistic expectation out there did you really think at some point you were going to feel like you
08:15felt five years ago but i don't know what to expect on sunday i i well and the other part
08:22of
08:22this is scott harris might need to stop with the kenta maeda alex cobb justin verlander trend
08:28and and getting these like i the one-year contract for guys appreciate getting veteran pitchers i think
08:34it's good to have veterans around but the guys he's signing keep signing either get hurt or pass their
08:42prime and so far past their prime that they're not physically capable of doing it anymore they're
08:46just not very good anymore and the jv story we knew from the beginning this is a feel-good story
08:52sure why not emergency break glass reese holson's hurt because it came right after reese holson
09:00um but this doesn't feel like at this point he'll start sunday and then dot dot dot we'll see well
09:08i
09:08wonder if this statement would even be made if the tigers had a winning record or if they were closer
09:14to the division lead than what they are like would they say all right no you used you we're not
09:19bringing
09:20you back until you feel great um because they have other pitchers in this situation they're 14 games
09:26below 500 but they still have other options like you don't have to have maeda garden maeda uh montero go
09:33to the bullpen you don't have to you can let leave montero in the starting rotation until
09:39jv is really ready to go but this article and these words that come out of his mouth make it
09:45seem like
09:48this is as good as it's going to get for or at least that's where he's feeling right now
09:51now athletes they wear their emotions on their sleeves sometimes right possible palaco years ago
09:58had a cortisone shot in his arm and was interviewed after the day after and he's like my baseball
10:05career is done i'm never going to play again i don't know how i'm going to play again and it's
10:09like dude relax it's a cortisone shot you're going to feel better in a couple days and then two days
10:13later he's like i feel great yeah you know so who knows well we'll see what happens on sunday i'm
10:19rooting for the guy i'm sure all detroit's rooting for the guy uh but this was kind of strange to
10:24read
10:25248-539-9797 it's carson anderson here i'm 97 1
