00:04all right uh just to wrap up the red wing discussion although open lines if you want
00:10to keep going you can at 2485-39-9797 is it a fascinating off-season crossroads for this
00:17organization we're just talking about eisenman and you had another thought but we were up against
00:22our heartbreak yeah the other thought is um with people think it's the it was because you said it's
00:29a crapper get off the pot moment for him the reality is the nhl draft the first round of the
00:34draft is next thursday so it's it's less it's just over a week that they that they have before that
00:40happens i don't know if if eisenman feels compelled to get a deal done before then or if he's just
00:47gonna you know let this thing play out he's always looking for the best deal possible but i would
00:52imagine some teams around the nhl might have a sense of urgency to get something done too particularly
00:58if they know that their bargaining chip is whether it's florida with the number nine pick or san jose
01:02with the number two pick if they wanted to do something like that is is that what's going to
01:07happen we'll see but i i do find it curious to see if a deal does get done before the
01:13draft and then
01:14tom then we get the nba draft is what next uh monday are the pistons going to get anything done
01:19before
01:19monday when it comes to trades because we know trades happen fast and furious in the nba on draft night
01:24yeah look um that is a ticking clock for eisenman it's a ticking clock and it you know he can
01:32use
01:32that as leverage as well and tell organizations and teams that i've got a deal that i like it
01:38involves draft capital um so i've i've got till next thursday so bring your best offer now but there's
01:44pressure on him to get this right he needs to get it right and he needs to reshape the organization
01:49and do it in a home run fashion and is there pressure on him yes should there be pressure on
01:56him yes and this this has to be this has to be a home run just has to be a
02:02home run uh okay so let's
02:04talk about tigers wildly weird game last night first of all did you see that the two teams tied a
02:10major
02:10league baseball record the first 11 outs of the game recorded all strikeouts yeah all strikeouts so
02:16the tigers they did score a run in the first but struck out for all three outs then drew anderson
02:21i was gonna say they scored the run because they had what two walks and two hit batsmen scored the
02:26run yep uh then uh drew anderson struck out everybody in the bottom of the first top of the
02:32second tiger scored another run on a mcgonagall home run but all three outs were strikeouts they
02:37clocked it and then in the bottom of the second inning uh first two outs were strikeouts first 11 outs
02:44that were recorded were strikeouts before a ground out to first ended that streak all in all this is
02:50normally a terrible trend of the 27 outs for the tigers yesterday 18 were strikeouts insane
03:03that's the kind of thing that leads to a topic packed with phone lines of people bitching about
03:07their baseball team that's two out of three doc thank you you're welcome instead they scored nine
03:12runs and one nine three wild huh very wild um when i i didn't realize they'd struck out that much
03:20and
03:20then they threw that that number up on the screen with with uh most strikeouts in the game were with
03:26compared to number of runs scored or whatever there was one game where they scored i think 17 runs
03:32against a pittsburgh team years a few years ago and yet they struck out like 20 times or something
03:37but this one 18 strikeouts and you score nine runs you don't really care about the strikeouts when
03:42you're scoring nine runs it bothers you at the time when you see bases loaded and two out and
03:46somebody strikes out one of those was colt keith by the way well no he didn't strike out did he
03:52he got
03:52was that where he got he got hit by the pitch he got hit by a pitch and the run
03:55scored did he strike
03:56out with runners on the corners maybe at one point in the game i think so okay um yes i
04:02think it was
04:02first and third and but jami jones had struck out and i think torkelson struck out i know i know
04:08it
04:08happened that jami jones went uh we'll get to jami in a minute 65 minutes into the show before we
04:13brought up his name um yeah so it's but you'll take you score nine runs hit five bombs okay i'm
04:21all
04:21about it you strike out 20 times i think if you're going to score nine runs you don't care how
04:24many
04:24times you strike out you can strike out 27 times win the game yep in the meantime the bad news
04:30the
04:30glaber torres injury we expect to hear something by two actually i just made that up as well
04:36my new thing uh we hope to hear yeah we hope to hear something uh today i'm like the long
04:41-term
04:41prognosis for glaber but hinge didn't have any information after the game only called it discomfort
04:46in his side they just got him back yeah it just for what a week and a half or two
04:52weeks whatever it
04:53was um it sucks because he is so vitally important listen these numbers as they stack up against each
05:00other one player has a 282 average the other player is a 280 average one player is a 390 on
05:05base percentage the other player is a 395 on base percentage one player is a 421 slugging the other
05:11player is 395 slugging who are the players kevin mcgonigle is the first player glaber torres is the
05:18second right mcgonigle's got the better slugging percentage glaber has the better on base percentage
05:23and they're pretty close in in ops when all is said and done glaber torres is a huge part of
05:30this
05:30tiger machine going this year and moving forward if they can get to the playoffs and yet it's also
05:34a free agent at the end of the season and one that if you find yourself and well you realize
05:40that
05:41you're out of it at the trade deadline he's gone yeah but if you find yourself in it like i've
05:46said
05:46before that i don't mind trading scoobel if i'm in it because i think they have enough pitching where
05:50they can handle that and i don't want to let scoobel go for nothing i know you and i disagree
05:54on that and that's fine i disagree on the they can trade scoobel and still compete part yeah well
05:59with melton who knows with melton that now that he didn't make the start yesterday but that's a big
06:03part of my plan moving forward is it troy melton's a starting pitcher but we'll see um but torres was
06:09a
06:09guy that i'm not sure that you could get by trade him and still make the playoffs if that was
06:16your goal
06:17and and to see if he is going to be out this this this really hurts on a couple of
06:23fronts it hurts
06:24because it hurts the team and the team may not be as successful trying to make the playoff run it
06:29also
06:29hurts because if you thought you're going to trade him trading damaged goods a guy who's had an issue
06:35with a strained oblique now a second time in the season that's not going to bode well for for his
06:41return either but the tigers have options for second base they do have options how you lee is
06:48he can play at second base shortstop or or third base on his team i like how you lee i
06:53kind of like
06:53him too i i root for him he's a short compact swing and he's got pop in the bat had
07:00a couple hits last
07:01night uh he came in to pinch hit for torres and you know throwing in that tough situation and ends
07:07up
07:07with two hits in the game and it looks more confident now and he has a really good he was
07:13playing pretty well at the minors too but with his whole roster situation
07:19how you at least not going anywhere and if glaber torres is out and they're going to bring somebody
07:23else up it's it's interesting to see who they decide to bring up and all the while you still have
07:28this distraction of jami jones it feels like there is a strong possibility that we are looking at a
07:35future where an announcement at some point that glaber torres is back on the injured list with a
07:41re-aggravation of the oblique strain and it you know it's idle speculation on my part but if it's
07:50not that i will be very pleased but i will i will as well but i also wouldn't mind if
07:58he did spend some
07:59time there even if it's something in minor just just look you know what sit out relax get yourself
08:03healthy we'll bring you back in a couple of weeks just take it easy we've got guys that we can
08:08bring
08:09up and oh okay so is this the max anderson window opening up potentially but i still go because they
08:15have how yuli can play second base and he hits right-handed because if they wanted to they can go
08:21get jace young who has played second base he's got like 200 games under his belt uh at second base
08:27in
08:27minor league career he could play second and he's left-handed but you know we're still we're talking
08:34about replacing glaber torres and yet what we really should be talking about is replacing jami jones
08:38because it's another opportunity for him last night against left-handed pitching goes oh for three with
08:44a couple of strikeouts great he hit the ball kind of solidly the one time he put it in play
08:48but it was
08:49300 feet away in the right to center field so and i i heard aj comment or aj's comments the
08:55other day
08:56about you know kind of explaining the situation why he's here but also putting it i'm saying he's got
09:00to deliver he didn't again with multiple opportunities with runners on base and he didn't i don't want to
09:09get to that i'm not that guy's gonna fly off the handle it's malpractice and you can't but
09:13he shouldn't be on this team and it's again it's nothing personal against jami jones
09:18he's not getting the job done go get somebody who can now to your point does this open up that
09:23window for max anderson because he plays second base or can't play second base it might but his
09:28numbers have dropped significantly while he's been at toledo as well but those outfielders i keep
09:33talking about he didn't walk a couple times the last time out max anderson did to walk him and he
09:38needs to i think that's his first of the year but cory jolks and ben malgary two guys play the
09:43outfield
09:43um you know these are i'm not necessarily i'm not even looking for a position when it comes to
09:48jami jones i'm just looking for a right-handed back you got two things going on at the same
09:51time one is a second base conversation which is what and you brought up jami jones i just want
09:56everyone to keep in mind just please remember that when jami jones gets dfa'd later this week or this
10:04weekend remember that aj laid down the the roadmap he talked openly about why jami was here for the
10:13cleveland and houston series and the number of left-handed pitchers he might see coming out of
10:18the pen etc last week when he talked to the morning show and he said specifically but he's got to
10:23produce then after he failed in cleveland kobe uh cody stabing hey and uh from the cody stabing
10:30jesus in three two one uh he uh writer for the athletic right he he had the long quote where
10:37he was
10:38praising jami what he's brought to the table for this organization but then near the end said but
10:46for this to be a successful strategy jami has to produce i think it's clear that the finish line
10:54for jami jones in detroit is the end of this houston series and barring some offensive explosion in the
11:01next couple of games remember that aj in code told us when he gets dfa'd later this week it and
11:10maybe i don't know i would probably do it today if i were him but i'm more punitive than than
11:16he is
11:16he's well more thought out than i am but i also don't want the glaber torres injury to extend to
11:24my
11:24jones state because i don't think they're two separate things and they should be treated separately
11:28but at the same time 248-539-9797 we'll get tomorrow your phone calls and feedback
11:34take a big picture look at what the tigers are up against uh in terms of trying to climb back
11:39into
11:39this thing and what the path to get there really is um all that coming up today as we continue
11:45to
11:46talk tigers here on karshen anderson on 97.1
11:48guys
11:49you
