00:01A man, trusted to manage an NGO's funds, has been accused of siphoning it all for himself.
00:0757-year-old Fakhruddin Abdul Karim pleaded not guilty on Tuesday at the Shah Alam Sessions Court
00:13to 158 charges of abusing his position to obtain bribes totaling more than 98 million ringgit.
00:20The charges were read out over a two-hour session before Judge Muhammad Nasir Nordin.
00:25Fakhruddin was a former member of NGO Pertubuhan Ikram Huluselangor,
00:30where he served as an authorized signatory for the organization's bank account.
00:35According to the first 149 charges, Fakhruddin allegedly directed fund transfers from Ikram's Maybank Islamic account
00:42into a management company linked to him, amounting to 81.95 million ringgit.
00:48The remaining nine charges allege he transferred a further 16.3 million ringgit
00:52directly into two of his own personal bank accounts.
00:56All transactions are alleged to have taken place between January 2021 and August 2025
01:02at Ikram's Huluselangor branch office in Bukit Beruntung, Rawang.
01:07The charges fall under the MACC Act 2009, and if convicted,
01:12Fakhruddin faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of at least five times the gratification amount.
01:18Deputy Public Prosecutor Datuk Ahmad Akram Garib flagged the case as non-bailable, given its severity.
01:25However, if the court were to exercise its discretion,
01:29he proposed bail of one million ringgit with two sureties,
01:33with the condition that the accused surrenders his passport and not approach prosecution witnesses.
01:38The defense did not object to the additional conditions,
01:41but stressed that the bank accounts of Fakhruddin's seven companies had been frozen by the MACC,
01:47along with accounts belonging to his family members.
01:50His employees have reportedly gone unpaid for three months.
01:53The court ultimately set bail at 500,000 ringgit with two local sureties,
01:59along with the additional conditions.
02:00This case is linked to the Ops Suterra investigation in April,
02:04under which MACC previously seized 18 luxury vehicles,
02:08properties worth 11 million ringgit cash,
02:11branded watches,
02:12and froze 33 bank accounts totalling around 120 million ringgit.
