Former senior political secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin is appealing the dismissal of his application to transfer five corruption charges from the Sessions Court to the High Court.

His lawyer, Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad, informed the Sessions Court that the defence had filed a notice of appeal on Wednesday (May 6).

Sessions judge Suzana Hussin subsequently fixed June 29 for mention.

00:30On April 28, the High Court dismissed the transfer application on the grounds that Shamsul Iskandar
00:36had failed to meet the requirements under Section 417 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
00:43Shamsul Iskandar faces five corruption charges involving cash bribes totaling RM140,000, as
00:50well as furniture and electrical items valued at over RM36,000, allegedly received from
00:57businessman Albert Tayjan Cheng as inducement to assist companies linked to Tay in obtaining
01:02mineral exploration license approvals in Sabah.
01:05He faces an additional charge at the Shah Alam Sessions Court involving a bribe of 62,924 ringgit,
01:14allegedly deposited into a woman's bank account to pay rent for a house in Kuala Lumpur.
01:19All charges under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009 carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and
01:29a fine of not less than five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
