00:07Syed Abdul Rahman on corruption and money laundering charges.
00:11The notice was filed on Thursday, as stated in a release by the Attorney General's chambers.
00:16The intended appeal challenges the Court of Appeals' decision to set aside the conviction
00:21of the Muda founder on Wednesday.
00:23In its unanimous decision, the Appellate Court allowed the former Youth and Sports Minister's
00:29trial, stating that Syed Sadiq should have been acquitted without his defence being called
00:33during the trial.
00:35The three-judge bench concluded that the prosecution failed to prove the elements of the predicate
00:40charges of abetting in criminal breach of trust and dishonest misappropriation.
00:46The Court agreed with Syed Sadiq's defence that the money from public contributions was intended
00:51to effectively finance his election campaign and not for Armada Bersatu, his former political
00:59party.
01:00Syed Sadiq was found guilty by the High Court in November 2023 of allegedly abetting in CBT
01:08involving more than RM1 million belonging to Bersatu youth and another count of allegedly dishonestly
01:15misappropriating property totalling more than RM120,000 also belonging to the wing.
