00:008 points, 5 rebounds for Champs-Penny.
00:04He had a very good game against Oklahoma City in Game 7.
00:09Fox jumper. Can't get it to fall. Hart tips it.
00:12And Anobi grabs it. Ahead to Brunson.
00:15Brunson steps into a three-pointer.
00:17In and out. Vassell the rebound.
00:22Spurs dodged one there. Brunson loves that look.
00:25When he's got that much space coming out of the backcourt,
00:28he is going to stop in rhythm. Just rims out.
00:31Gassel. Cornette. Poked away by Anobi.
00:34Another steal for the defensive demon.
00:36Hart drives. Count the bucket and a foul.
00:43Knicks cut of the sixth with 118 remaining.
00:49Officials are going to look at it
00:52to see if it was any more than just a regular common foul.
00:55Checking to see if this foul meets the criteria for a player foul.
00:59I think that's not the best angle.
01:01When you see the shove from the back,
01:04I think that's what they're questioning.
01:05This is probably a better angle to decide.
01:09No play on the ball whatsoever.
01:12To me, that's a vulnerable player.
01:14Yeah, he's about to take off.
01:15That could easily be upgraded.
01:18Hart went fly. That's his second field goal.
01:22I think they're going to upgrade this.
01:27I love when you guys make bold predictions.
01:31I'm glad that the legs can join the party.
01:33I appreciate you, legs. It mean a lot.
01:37Just look at that score,
01:39and look at how time is left here in the second.
01:42118 remaining, and it's combined 74 points.
01:46Maybe they were watching some film of the 99 series
01:49to get ready for this.
01:50This looks like one of those scores,
01:52but this has really just been all about
01:53credible effort defensively,
01:56and obviously some guys having some cold nights.
01:59Let's bring in Steve Jaffe,
02:00our officials expert and a former finals referee.
02:03Steve, you saw the play.
02:04Is this enough for a flagrant?
02:06Yeah, Mike, as you see the guy,
02:08it's a push here as he's getting ready to a light.
02:10It's not a basketball play whatsoever.
02:12There is a potential for injury here, I think, too.
02:15So in my opinion, I would think it would be a flagrant one.
02:17Thank you, Steve.
02:21And here is Scott Foster.
02:23It's been determined that the foul on the floor
02:25has been upgraded to a flagrant foul penalty one.
02:27Two hands are shoved to the back
02:29while the driver was with speed,
02:31with potential for injury.
02:32The ball went in.
02:33Therefore, this is two to make one for Josh Hart,
02:36and they will retain possession of the ball.
02:39So Fox with the flagrant foul.
02:41It has not been an easy few days for De'Aaron Fox,
02:43who's had some terrific playoff games,
02:46but obviously struggled down the stretch
02:48with that decision at the end of the game
02:50to go for a layup that Ananobi blocked
02:52as opposed to trying to run out the clock.
02:54And you have to understand, though,
02:56you win and lose as a team.
02:57Those are the moments that you need your teammates
02:59to surround you,
03:00no different than Wimby threw the ball
03:02off the back of Castle.
03:03We all go into the locker room
03:05as a team, win or lose.
03:07Hart has two to make one
03:09because he made the basket.
03:11And then the Knicks will get possession.
03:15Free throws good.
03:17Halftime presented by Kia.
03:20And they're here at Willis in San Antonio.
03:22Always wonderful to have them.
03:23Ernie, Kenny, Charles.
03:24And as you mentioned,
03:25Shaq who once had nine blocks
03:28and make that eight blocks in a playoff game.
03:30They should have counted another.
03:32It should have been nine.
03:33I don't remember the game.
03:34100%.
03:38Harper right up into Brunson.
03:40Finds Robinson.
03:41Robinson kicks it out.
03:42Bridges off the bounce.
03:44Flips it up.
03:45Shots good.
03:46And it's a three-point game
03:47with a minute to play here in the first half.
03:49And the Spurs forced the ball where they wanted to.
03:52They got it to Mitchell Robinson
03:53in the middle of the floor.
03:54That's a really good decision for the big man.
03:57Survey the floor.
03:58Find your open shooter.
03:59And then attack the closeout.
04:00Five-point possession.
04:02Harper spins, turns, shoots.
04:03Can't get it.
04:04Champagny had it.
04:05Lost it.
04:05Hart trying to come up with it.
04:07Fall knocked out of bounds.
04:08And a loose ball foul.
04:12Josh Hart.
04:18And here the Spurs force
04:20other people to be decision makers.
04:22This isn't an easy play for Mitchell Robinson.
04:24Particularly the way Vassell closed on him
04:27when he caught the basketball.
04:28He didn't panic.
04:29Finds Mikael Bridges
04:31who makes a very smart and patient play
04:33to get to the rim for that floater.
04:35Knicks were not in the penalty.
04:36So 14 on the shot clock.
04:44And I know the excellent defense on Fox.
04:47Shot clock winding down.
04:48A contested three.
04:50Hart grabs the rebound.
04:56And an Obie with Fox on him.
04:58Cornette looking to help.
05:03Bridges up top.
05:04Hart.
05:05Fake spins.
05:06Harper right with him.
05:07Josh Hart comes up short.
05:08Mitchell Robinson tips it.
05:09Paul Knacklose picked up by Fox.
05:11Shot clock turned off.
05:15And as mentioned,
05:16no fouls to give right now for the Knicks.
05:21Fox up top.
05:22Vassell.
05:23One second.
05:24Vassell gets into the paint.
05:25Puts it up at the buzzer.
05:26Got it to go!
05:27At the buzzer!
05:29Devin Vassell with a big bucket.
05:32And the Spurs will go into the locker room
05:34up five after leading by as many as 16.
05:39And how about if you're the Knicks?
05:41You score 37 points in the half
05:43and you're only down by five.
05:46Halftime here in game five.
05:4842-37.
05:49Spurs trying to keep their season alive.
06:10Here in San Antonio,
06:12it's a closeout game for the New York Knicks.
06:14A win away from the NBA title.
06:18But a 37-point first half.
06:20Their lowest of this postseason.
06:23But only down by five here in game five.
06:27Welcome, everybody.
06:28It's the Halftime Report.
06:29It's brought to you by Kia, Ernie Johnson,
06:32along with Shaquille O'Neal
06:33and Kenny the Jetsmith and Charles Barkley.
06:36That five-point play may loom huge.
06:40Not really.
06:42You don't think so?
06:43No, man.
06:44Let me tell you something.
06:45The Knicks played as bad as they could play
06:47and they're only down five points.
06:49You can talk about this play.
06:52The Knicks, they came out bad.
06:54Spurs came out strong.
06:56For them to only be down five at the halftime,
06:59they might as well be up.
07:00Well, without a five-point play, it would be ten.
07:02Well, yeah, I know that.
07:03But I'm saying, you can just tell.
07:06What's interesting about this game,
07:08the New York Knicks are going to win the championship tonight.
07:11They've only played about seven good minutes of basketball.
07:13Well, they've shot 29% in the first half.
07:16And they're only down five.
07:17Yeah.
07:18And you can talk about that five-point play.
07:20But I just think it's big.
07:22Well, listen, the Knicks should be down 15 points
07:26the way they played the first half.
07:27Yeah.
07:28And that five-point play was big.
07:29Well, if they were down 10, it would still be like they were winning
07:32because you can't play this bad in a desperation game
07:37and only – let's say hypothetically 10.
07:40They played – the Knicks have not played good in any game
07:43and they're going to win this series tonight.
07:44Yeah, the halftime highlights.
07:46Crazy.
07:46Presented by Kia.
07:47It's like, haven't we seen this movie before?
07:49Again, first quarter, 23-13.
07:52But then the Spurs field goal percentage drops
07:55from the first to the second quarters.
07:57And you see Wemby's got 9-9 in the first half of this game
08:02as San Antonio fighting for their playoff lives.
08:07This kid, Dylan Harper, Shaquille, at the age of 20,
08:13has definitely arrived.
08:15He's the real deal.
08:17A couple games he has not played in the fourth quarter,
08:19especially in crucial moments.
08:20I would like to see him today in the fourth quarter.
08:23Listen, he has a lot of poise for rookie.
08:24He's 4 out of 6 right now.
08:26He's probably the only one, you know, he makes his three right here,
08:29but he has the ability to get to the lane.
08:31You know, he's not afraid of contact and take a high percentage shot.
08:34I still don't like what I'm seeing from the Spurs.
08:376 for 21 for 28% for 3.
08:39This guy right here likes to contact.
08:41He can get downhill, and he can make a play for himself.
08:44We need to see him in the fourth quarter if it's a close game.
08:48Now, you had pictures.
08:50Do you not still have pictures?
08:53No, because I had the great defense of Spurs,
08:56but that's not what this game is about.
08:58Winning a championship is about starting,
09:00start of quarters and end of quarters.
09:02The Spurs have not ended quarters well.
09:04I was so disappointed with 2 1⁄2 minutes to go
09:08if you're trying to get back into this series
09:10to see Wimbledon on the bench.
09:12He has two fouls, but you get six.
09:15And then you have Dylan Hoffer doesn't come back in until one minute.
09:19That is, those two guys during those times
09:22are the reason the Knicks were having trouble.
09:25You have to allow the guys who are having it.
09:28And anyone else on those nights, you have to take a backseat
09:32because you know that you've done things throughout the 82 games
09:36and throughout the regular season and the playoffs
09:38to help your team to get here.
09:40But at some times, you have to take a backseat
09:43to someone who has an advantage in a series.
09:45Dylan Harper has an advantage.
09:48Wimbledon Yama has an advantage.
09:49So, ending the quarters have been brutal at times
09:54for the San Antonio Spurs.
09:56And I think, I hate to say this,
09:59he got to go with Castle and Harper.
10:02He got to take Fox out the game.
10:05I hate saying that because I'm a big De'Aaron Fox fan.
10:08But if you're Coach Johnson,
10:10you can't be worried about people's feelings out here.
10:13Or he can play them with him.
10:15But he has to be on the field.
10:16There's five spots.
10:17No, I think.
10:17Dylan Harper needs to be in one of them.
10:18I think you got to play Harper and Castle together.
10:21Okay.
10:21Especially, you got to, well, this to me right here,
10:26like, nah, man, you know,
10:27Ernie's talking about this five-point play.
10:28This can't happen.
10:29But you got to go to Harper and Castle
10:32and play them boys together.
10:33That's just my personal opinion.
10:35Meantime, Jalen Brunson,
10:38got on a heater when they needed it the most
10:41because this New York team was down 31-15 at one point.
10:45And then Brunson turned it up.
10:47He's the only guy in double figures for New York with 16.
10:49Well, you talk about ending quarters.
10:51They're going to make,
10:51Nick's made sure that the ball is in the right person's hands.
10:54You single coverage him, he's going to take you one-on-one.
10:56You double coverage him, he's going to pass it.
10:58But if you play him single coverage,
11:00he is going to eat and he's going to eat often.
11:03But he does give the ball up,
11:05but you let him play single coverage
11:06and down the stretch, four minutes to go in the game,
11:09all the way down to the end of the quarter.
11:11The ball was in the right hands for the Knicks
11:13that not kept them in position to be here.
11:15But if you're the Spurs
11:18and you got a 15-point lead
11:20in a desperation game
11:21and the Knicks playing as bad as they played,
11:24you got to feel like,
11:26whoa.
11:26Mike Brown's going to be like,
11:28guys, we played as,
11:28first of all,
11:29they only played a good seven minutes in the last game,
11:32but they played,
11:33that was an awful first half by the Knicks
11:35and the Spurs, to be honest with you,
11:36other than the first quarter.
11:37Could be heading to the final 24 minutes
11:39of the NBA season.
11:41Oh, I need to go get a picture with Sidney Sweeney.
11:43No, that's okay.
11:45My job during these playoffs
11:47is already done from the other night.
12:06Here on June 13th,
12:08the two teams still standing in a slugfest.
12:11Knicks trying to clinch a title.
12:13Spurs trying to keep their title hopes alive.
12:15It's game five halftime
12:17from San Antonio, Texas.
12:19And a low-scoring affair.
12:22As we head to the third quarter,
12:24Spurs 42 and the Knicks 37.
12:28And defense has been at the forefront.
12:31Both teams struggling offensively.
12:33See some of the numbers.
12:34Spurs shooting 34%.
12:36The Knicks 29%.
12:40As we welcome you back courtside
12:42here at Frost Bank Center,
12:44along with Richard Jefferson,
12:45Tim Legler, Mike Green on hand.
12:47I mean, it's so competitive.
12:49They're battling so hard.
12:50But it's some ugly basketball
12:51because the defense is playing so tough.
12:54The defensive pressure has been incredible.
12:56But look, there are guys right now
12:58not taking advantage of opportunities.
13:00And if you're San Antonio,
13:01with the way you started defensively
13:03and the struggles of the Knicks
13:05in that first quarter,
13:06I don't think you're feeling too great
13:07to be up five points.
13:08It feels like they should be up more.
13:10But their offense, Richard,
13:12failed them in the second quarter.
13:13Well, you have to give credit to the Knicks
13:15on the other side of that.
13:16Their defense,
13:18they sustained a level of effort
13:19that put them in this position.
13:22Again, Spurs had a big lead early.
13:24They led by 16.
13:27Castle throws it up.
13:29And that's going to be another foul on Towns,
13:31I believe.
13:32That's going to be four on Carl Anthony Towns.
13:35Second straight game in some major foul trouble.
13:38He's shocked at the call.
13:47It's not a lot,
13:48but that forearm is at his stomach.
13:51But also, there's a push-off from Wimby
13:53to get that extra space.
13:55But Carl Anthony Towns
13:57sitting on the bench very quickly.
13:59Now, Towns has two points,
14:00but eight rebounds.
14:01You always forget about that.
14:02Part of his strength has always been.
14:04He's one of the elite rebounders.
14:06Fox left open.
14:07Can't get it.
14:07Ball tipped and taken by Hart.
14:09Good boxing out for Mitchell Robinson,
14:11who's going to get a lot of minutes again.
14:13Yeah, Fox really struggling.
14:15He's had some good looks.
14:17Could have had a much bigger difference
14:20in this game offensively,
14:21but continues to struggle with his shooting.
14:26Wimby throws across,
14:27and a foul going to go against Castle.
14:29He pushed off.
14:30That's his second personal.
14:32As we check in with Lisa.
14:33Hey, Mike.
14:34Well, we know the Spurs,
14:35the Knicks have gotten off the slow start,
14:37once before in this series.
14:38I asked Mike Brown what got better
14:39as the game went on.
14:40He said,
14:41we started handling their physicality better.
14:43He said,
14:43they are extremely physical defensively,
14:45and we just started doing a better job
14:47spacing the floor,
14:48handling the physicality,
14:49playing conceptually.
14:50I asked him about the team
14:51needing to maybe settle in
14:53with the nerves with so much on the line,
14:54and he said,
14:55yeah,
14:55that's part of it.
14:56I said,
14:57but you have to give this first credit.
14:58They're a really physical team.
15:00Mike.
15:00Thank you, Lisa.
15:02And hence,
15:02low scoring.
15:03Bridges floats it up.
15:04That shot's good.
15:04It was the lowest combined first half scoring
15:07in a finals game
15:08in 16 years,
15:09back when the Lakers and Celtics played
15:11in 2010.
15:15It was a different game
15:16back then in the NBA.
15:18Champagny,
15:18that's a three.
15:20That's his third three-pointer.
15:22And that's just ball movement
15:24around the horn.
15:25You got to close out,
15:26especially to Champagny,
15:28so much better than that.
15:29He's got to be forced
15:30to put that ball on the floor.
15:31He was in his space,
15:32Bridges,
15:33but he did not get vertical at all
15:34to contest.
15:35Brunson finds some room,
15:37flips it up,
15:38soft touch.
15:40He frequently gets that soft bounce
15:42because he has such a soft jump shot.
15:44He does.
15:45Another offensive foul here on Champagny.
15:47But with Brunson as a series of the ball,
15:50he normally used the pumping,
15:51the step through.
15:52He normally uses that footwork.
15:54He sees that the Spurs aren't biting in that,
15:56so now he's hop-stepping
15:58into his jump shot with confidence.
16:00And right now,
16:01if you're the Spurs defensively,
16:03you have to pressure up all over the floor
16:05because Wemanyama doesn't have to worry
16:08about recovering to a three-point shooter.
16:10He's guarding Mitchell Robinson.
16:11You've got that line of defense back there.
16:14You cannot be out of somebody's space
16:17on the perimeter.
16:18That was an adventurous dribble up the floor
16:20for Bridges.
16:21Brunson has it now.
16:22Robinson trying to set screens.
16:23Brunson fires away.
16:24Shot won't go.
16:25Robinson,
16:26the offensive rebound.
16:29One of the best offensive rebounders
16:31in the NBA.
16:32Ananobi fakes,
16:33drives,
16:33lost it momentarily.
16:35Pass inside.
16:37Wemanyama deflected.
16:38Nate Ananobi changes mind again.
16:40Wemanyama running the floor,
16:42throws it down.
16:43And the foul.
16:48The officials looking at each other.
16:51Was that a push?
16:52Wemanyama be a little shaken up.
16:55And they're going to go review it.
16:59Checking to see if this foul meets criteria
17:01for a flagrant foul.
17:04We had the one in the first half,
17:06Richard,
17:06with Fox pushed hard.
17:08And they said it wasn't a basketball play.
17:10As Legg said,
17:12the push in the back,
17:13but throw it down,
17:15big fella.
17:15Throw it down.
17:16That's almost the exact same thing.
17:18That's going to be a flagrant foul.
17:19Not even sure he pushed him as hard.
17:22As hard got shoved,
17:24but it doesn't matter.
17:24You're just as vulnerable
17:26once you go to leave your feet.
17:31Wemanyama now 11 points,
17:3310 rebounds,
17:35five blocked shots.
17:36For Robinson,
17:36it's going to be his first foul.
17:38And Towns on the bench with four fouls.
17:41Carl Anthony Towns has only played 15 minutes
17:43because of the foul difficulties.
17:46And in a game with points tough to come by,
17:48that's twice now.
17:49Victor Wemanyama has just run
17:51straight down the middle of the floor
17:53to try to get something easy
17:55and beat the other big.
17:58Did it one time to Towns,
17:59now he does it to Mitchell Robinson.
18:03Surprised it took this long.
18:04Now it's done.
18:05And here's Scott Foster.
18:08After he views,
18:09it's been determined that the foul on the floor
18:10has been upgraded to a flagrant foul.
18:12Penalty one.
18:13Mitchell Robinson is deemed to push
18:16Wemanyama in the back unnecessarily.
18:18while he was airborne and prone to injury.
18:20Therefore, the bucket will count.
18:22Wemanyama will shoot two to make one.
18:24And they will retain possession of the ball.
18:27So the exact same scenario
18:30that happened to Fox and Hart.
18:34Yeah, and really,
18:35nobody should have a problem with this
18:37because it is such a dangerous play for a player
18:40when you don't have control of your body.
18:42When you get shoved in the back
18:44and you're going full speed,
18:45it's impossible to control how you land.
18:49It's a good game.
18:51And it's a good game.
18:52Wendy's two for two.
18:55An excellent free throw shooter missed some key free throws.
18:58Last game in that.
18:59Nick comeback.
19:01Well, it has been an excellent free throw shooter.
19:03в первую очередь.
19:05For his career now.
19:07This is his third year.
19:08Eighty one percent.
19:15They'll get another chance.
19:17Two for one.
19:17And then possession of the ball
19:19for San Antonio.
19:23If you're the Spurs right now.
19:25Wimby now has some fouls to work
19:27with.
19:27He's got some space to be
19:29aggressive.
19:30You've got to know the four or
19:31five shots that you are looking
19:32for.
19:33For Wimby.
19:34For Castle.
19:37These are the spots that you have
19:38to find.
19:39Your shot profile.
19:40Your shot chart.
19:42It's got to be the shots that you
19:43want.
19:44Not the shots necessarily that
19:45they're giving you.
19:46Not the open three point shots.
19:48It's the looks that we want.
19:50The ones that we fight for.
19:54Robinson in pursuit.
19:58Castle.
19:59Castle's 0 for 7 from the field.
20:01Drives along the baseline.
20:03Kicks it out the corner.
20:04Good ball movement.
20:05Champagny.
20:05Fakes.
20:06Step back three.
20:07Gets another.
20:08Four three pointer for Champagny.
20:10And a lead back to double figures.
20:12A Brooklyn native taking it to his
20:15hometown team.
20:20Now defending Brunson.
20:22He's an underrated defender.
20:24And a reach and foul.
20:25That's going to be Castle's third.
20:32Castle's a very aggressive defender.
20:34He's always looking to make plays
20:36on the basketball.
20:37When there's a guard penetrating in
20:39his direction.
20:39But he's got to be a little bit
20:41smarter right there.
20:42The risk reward right here for
20:44Castle.
20:44I don't think is great right there
20:46on Jalen Brunson.
20:47Brunson wanted him to be in the
20:48act of shooting.
20:49But that's a side out.
20:51And that's what they rule.
20:52Initially, it appeared he was going
20:54to go to the free throw line.
20:55That appears to be the right
20:56call.
21:01Brunson.
21:01Hart in the corner.
21:03Up top on Anobi.
21:05Shot clock winding down.
21:07Bridges.
21:07The quick release is three.
21:09Let's settle the rebound.
21:14Hands back.
21:15Wimbanyama.
21:16Showing that ball handling.
21:17The spin.
21:18Fake.
21:18Puts the shot off and knocks it
21:20down.
21:21They're up a dozen.
21:23RJ using his size in that
21:25mid-range.
21:26Doesn't do enough of that.
21:30Bridges wide open.
21:32Comes right back and nails the
21:33three-pointer.
21:34That's his third three-pointer.
21:36And Bridges with 13 points off the
21:39from three of seven from three.
21:46Wimpy tries again.
21:49And those shots are a lot tougher.
21:51When you're stagnant, you're looking
21:52around standing there.
21:53And then it's like, wait, I'm going
21:55to shoot it.
21:56Catching that ball in rhythm.
21:57Looking to get aggressive.
22:00Brunson.
22:01Brunson.
22:01Got away with a push-off.
22:02Push-up.
22:02Jump shot.
22:03It's good.
22:05Brunson comes right back.
22:06He's got 20.
22:07And the Knicks within seven.
22:10Knicks right now answering three buckets now to answer.
22:15But San Antonio has scored.
22:18Vassell chased off the three-point line.
22:20Scoots across.
22:21And Wendman Yamas fouled.
22:23They're going to say on the pass, I believe, a side out.
22:28Makes it with their third team foul as Dylan Harper comes in.
22:31And Anobi picks up his third.
22:32That's almost exactly the same time that Dylan Harper checked in
22:37at the start of this game.
22:39A little over four minutes.
22:40And they get him in.
22:41And I think it's a great decision.
22:43Right now, Darren Fox struggling with his shooting.
22:45Stephon Castle also 0 for 7.
22:47But it feels like he's getting, you know, to his spots he likes around the rim.
22:50He just hasn't converted.
22:52Dylan Harper, of the three guards,
22:54has been the one that's been the most comfortable offensively.
22:57So, Ariel Huckporty will check in.
22:59Huckporty's only played in one game in the finals.
23:01Just three minutes.
23:02And that was, again, because of Towne's foul trouble in an earlier game.
23:06With Wendman Yamas out, they put Robinson down.
23:10Harper drives right away off the bench.
23:12First time he touches it, backs it home.
23:14He's just so impressive.
23:16He comes off and he knows the spots he wants to get to.
23:20Like you said, Legs, they have to make sure they keep him high in these minutes late in this game.
23:28Bridges looking, kicks it out in the corner.
23:30And it'll be the fake.
23:31Side step shot.
23:31Block.
23:32Bassell swats it out of bounds.
23:38That's just great effort.
23:39A second jump right there.
23:41I mean, you bite to that extent on a ball fake.
23:45He was able to get back, though, because he's still on the shooting side of OG Ananobi.
23:49He didn't have that far to go.
23:52That's just great effort.
23:53Great timing.
23:54The Spurs have so many guards and wings who are so good defensively.
23:59Shamit is going to come in.
24:00Do you know one of the things that the more we've watched this is Luke Cornette is guarding Josh Hart
24:05right now is that the Spurs don't have more of a small ball lineup that they've practiced that they've run
24:11through because they have the options with the talent they have.
24:14This is the definition of a small ball lineup right now.
24:16I don't know.
24:17He's the tallest Nick.
24:18Shot clock winding down.
24:19Brunson's going to have to put it up.
24:20Sneaks inside.
24:21Scoop lamp is good.
24:23He knew exactly how much time he had left to take it to the basket.
24:27He even glanced off when he came off that dribble handoff.
24:30That's a lot of ground to cover.
24:32Great awareness of the clock.
24:34Jampenny.
24:36Hart with another rebound.
24:38He's got seven boards.
24:40Find Shaman.
24:46Brunson.
24:47Not that time long.
24:48Rebound.
24:49Brunson almost came up with it.
24:50Instead, Harper has it down.
24:54Harper on the drive.
24:56Scoop inside.
24:57Can't get that one to fall.
24:58Ananobi the rebound.
25:01Ananobi going coast to coast inside.
25:04Layup is good.
25:05Tough shot amidst two Spurs.
25:07How different his approach was.
25:09It was crowded, but he looked up.
25:11No, Webby.
25:12He sees Luke Cornette.
25:13He knows he can use his strength to get an angle and get to the rim.
25:16Timeout.
25:17San Antonio.
25:18Back and forth they go.
25:20OG Ananobi.
25:21One foul.
25:22Getting away with a couple.
25:24But the focus to knock it down.
25:27Right now, Spurs up by five with six to go in the third.
25:33The NBA Finals are brought to you by Disney and Pixar's Toy Story 5.
25:38This summer, the battle is on.
25:40It's Toys vs. Tech.
25:42Only in theaters June 19th.
25:46Here in San Antonio, when you're the commissioner of elite, you meet interesting people, don't you?
25:52To say the least.
25:53Prince Harry taking in the action here in game five from the Frost Bank Center.
25:58All of the Spurs.
26:01When Monyama back in.
26:03And again, the tallest Nick out there right now.
26:07Is Bridges.
26:09Harper.
26:09Jumper.
26:10Got it.
26:12He just big bullied him right there.
26:13I mean, that's just his shoulder.
26:15He knew exactly when he caught that basketball where he was going to go on the floor.
26:19RJ, you said it earlier.
26:20He knows how to get to his angles and his spots to get shots in his comfort zone.
26:25This has to be the shortest five on the floor in a Finals game ever.
26:29McBride drives.
26:30Kicks it out in the corner.
26:31Good ball movement.
26:32Shammott hesitated.
26:33Hart.
26:34Back out.
26:35Shammott fires away this time.
26:37Can't hit the three.
26:38When Monyama with his 11 three-bounds.
26:40Shammott has to shoot that first one.
26:43He had a quick trigger all playoff long.
26:46The alley-oop.
26:47The layup is good.
26:48Impossible to stop with that length out there for the Knicks.
26:51No doubt.
26:52I mean, if he didn't touch the ball right there, I think there should have been an investigation.
26:56Get him the basketball in front of the rim with that lineup.
26:59Patient.
27:00He gets it.
27:00Finishes Jalen Brunson down.
27:02Brunson hurt.
27:03Once again, landing area.
27:04The Knicks are furious.
27:05They thought there should have been the landing area foul.
27:07Vassell comes back and knocks down a shot.
27:10Mike Brown very upset.
27:12Pointing down the other end.
27:14Galen Brunson yelling at Tyler Ford.
27:17Meanwhile, while the Knicks were upset and arguing, Vassell hits the shot and it's back to a nine-point lead.
27:23Here's the play that has Mike Brown and Brunson upset.
27:31Brunson gets into this three-point shot right here.
27:34There's no doubt he takes away his space on a closeout.
27:37It should be a flagrant.
27:45Critical no call here that did not go the Knicks way.
27:48Now, referees are taught to look up high, then down low.
27:51That right there is a landing zone foul that most of the time when it's reviewed and it puts a
27:58player at risk.
27:59That would be his next flagrant foul.
28:01That is as clear-cut as it gets.
28:04That's exactly why the rule was put in.
28:06That's how it's designed.
28:08That's just a blatant example of it.
28:10And that would have been his, if it was called, his fourth flagrant foul point, which means a one-game
28:17suspension.
28:18And this was created because of Zsa Zsa Pachulia against Kawhi Leonard.
28:23Golden State versus San Antonio.
28:25San Antonio was affected by this and they implemented this rule to protect shooters.
28:31That was back in 2017 in the Western Conference Finals as we hit the five-minute mark.
28:35More importantly right now for the Knicks, Brunson seems to be okay.
28:39Drives on Fox.
28:40Turns, leans in.
28:41Tied up.
28:42Almost threw away.
28:43Bridges falls down.
28:44He got poked in the eye.
28:45And they're going to call a hell ball.
28:52So that, as they'll jump it up at the free-row live circle.
28:57There's this play.
29:00No doubt missed that one as well.
29:03Typically, too, even if you don't see it necessarily.
29:06Sometimes you can tell by the reaction.
29:09I don't think he could have possibly sold it that hard if he didn't get hit.
29:12That's another one right there.
29:15Knicks have two to shoot if they win the tip.
29:18That they do.
29:19Shamit turns, shoots.
29:22Can't get at the ball.
29:23Shamit has been off the mark so far in the finals.
29:25He was the hottest player in the Eastern Conference Finals.
29:30And, Mike, you hit on it, too.
29:31Fortunate right now that Jalen Brunson is on the floor.
29:34That was a serious roll.
29:36But he looks like he's moving around the best he can right now.
29:39Does not seem to be that effective.
29:40Harper hits a three.
29:43Harper heroics here in game five.
29:45And they're back up a dozen.
29:47How good is this rookie?
29:49He is their leading scorer in an elimination game in the NBA Finals.
29:54A must-win scenario.
29:57Ball knocked loose.
29:58And a jump ball.
30:00The physical play of the Spurs here once again defensively.
30:09Great job.
30:10You funnel him into the traffic.
30:11And now you've got to make sure that you don't give him any space
30:14to get off the floor and release it.
30:16Dylan Harper just waiting in his lap and able to get that tie up.
30:22Harper the height advantage on this jump ball.
30:28Robinson comes in and takes it away.
30:30Lemonyama had great position.
30:32Heads up play from Mitchell Robinson.
30:34Shot clock at six.
30:35Brunson drives on Harper.
30:37Here comes a double team.
30:38Falling away with two on him.
30:39Can't get it.
30:40Fight for the rebound.
30:41Tipped by Robinson.
30:42Robinson gets it.
30:43Lost it.
30:43And a loose ball foul against the Spurs.
30:48Only their second team foul with four minutes remaining.
30:51Lemonyama down on the ground.
30:53May have gotten hit in the face.
31:01So the Knicks will take it side out.
31:03That's just great effort by Mitchell Robinson right there.
31:05He did not give up on that play.
31:06Couldn't come up with the first one cleanly.
31:09Stayed with it to give his team an extra possession.
31:13And he's going up right here amongst the sea of San Antonio Spurs.
31:18Does not give up on the play.
31:20You see right there inadvertent elbow to part of Mitchell Robinson.
31:24Trying to secure that basketball.
31:26Harper chasing Brunson.
31:27And a foul.
31:29Brunson upset.
31:30Looking at Harper.
31:34So a side out.
31:38Third team foul.
31:40Harper.
31:41His first personal.
31:43And again you see.
31:44The speed here.
31:45There's an initial push there.
31:46And then he meets him.
31:47Embodies him.
31:48That's an easy call there for the referees.
31:50Especially out in the open at the top of the key.
31:52Well the way.
31:53Brunson has been playing was red hot.
31:55Spurs trying to get as physical as possible with him.
32:01And the only other guy right now for the Knicks with any kind of rhythm.
32:05Is Mikael Bridges.
32:09Foul on the entry pass.
32:11Clearly the officials see.
32:12That's getting a little too much.
32:14So starting to call a tighter whistle on that one.
32:20So now the fourth team foul.
32:22And.
32:23Mike Brown's going to put in.
32:24I believe he's going to take out Mitchell Robinson.
32:26So they don't do a hack of Mitch.
32:30But that's one small lineup out there with one banyama.
32:34Yep Robinson comes out.
32:36But this is also good.
32:38When you think about for the Knicks.
32:39They have.
32:40Five guys that can drive and kick.
32:43And create shots and they're buying time.
32:45For Carl Anthony Towns.
32:46Who's got four fouls sitting on the bench.
32:48And at least now.
32:49You do have O.J. Ananobi on the floor.
32:51Who can physically try to push.
32:53Victor Weminyama.
32:54Oh Hart.
32:55Great hustle.
32:55Gets it back.
32:56Clarkson passed.
32:57Stolen by Weminyama.
32:58Taken back by Clarkson.
33:00Ananobi goes in.
33:01Layout.
33:01Bag shot.
33:02Won't go.
33:03Castle comes out of the pack.
33:05Here comes Wemby.
33:07Keldon Johnson.
33:07Barrels into Brunson.
33:09Blocked by Hart.
33:09But a foul.
33:13Brunson wanted a charge.
33:15Instead.
33:15The foul is on Hart.
33:17His second.
33:17And free throws.
33:21The good contest by Keldon Johnson right there.
33:24Got vertical.
33:25And O.J. Ananobi.
33:27And there's Jalen Brunson.
33:28And nobody does that better in the open floor.
33:31When numbers are against you than Jalen Brunson.
33:34There's the contact on Harper.
33:38Harper for a 20 year old rookie.
33:40He is a spectacular finisher at the rim.
33:43Oh it's impressive.
33:44I.
33:45It's hard to.
33:45I can't even call him a rookie anymore.
33:48He's had so many moments.
33:49So many big opportunities that he has met that moment.
33:53And Dillon Harper has been by far the best player off the bench.
33:56He's been the best player for the San Antonio Spurs so far tonight.
33:59So if we can't call him a rookie.
34:01What do we call him?
34:01A soon to be second year player?
34:03Well technically after you've played 82 games.
34:05That's what they say.
34:06After you've played 82 games you're no longer a rookie.
34:08We can't give you the same rookie mistakes that were allowed before.
34:12Not to mention the number of situations now that he's been in in the postseason.
34:15He's not phased by any of this.
34:17But it just really is still surprising though that he's this comfortable.
34:21When he gets his hands on the basketball right now.
34:24He sees something in front of him.
34:26He wants to go attack.
34:27This is 23rd playoff game.
34:31And the lead is up to 13.
34:33Three and a half to play third quarter.
34:39Bridges.
34:40Hart.
34:41And Anovi.
34:43Step back.
34:44Three pointer.
34:44Can't get it.
34:45Castle the rebound.
34:46Redmond Yama now off the floor.
34:48I'm sure Mitch Johnson would love to be able to leave him there until the start of the fourth quarter.
34:53If this group can maintain the lead.
34:55Harper.
34:55His own rebound.
34:56Back up and in.
34:57He's unstoppable right now.
35:00Nine straight points.
35:0221 for the game now for Harper.
35:08And Harper.
35:09Another foul.
35:10And that's.
35:11Pardon my expression.
35:12That's a rookie mistake.
35:13That is a rookie mistake right there.
35:15He didn't need to do that.
35:16He can't make rookie mistakes right now.
35:18It's not smart.
35:19He got away with the first one.
35:20He bumped them.
35:21And had Jalen Brunson off bounce.
35:23The officials looking right at him.
35:25They easily could have called the first bump.
35:27And then he aggressively closed down that space and almost pushed him into the backcourt.
35:34Jalen Brunson doing some heavy lifting.
35:37Nearly half the points.
35:39The Knicks have not had a point from their bench.
35:41Bill and Harper all by himself off the bench.
35:4421 for San Antonio.
35:49And Brunson with the first free throw.
35:51Now 26 points.
35:52McBride's going to come in.
35:55Incredible.
35:57And coming into the series.
35:59The San Antonio Spurs were a team that used their bench scoring a little bit more throughout the season early
36:04in the posty.
36:04The first two games of this series in this building, the Knicks bench outplayed the Spurs bench.
36:11That has completely flipped.
36:12And Harper, he grew up around the NBA.
36:15His father, Ron, the five-time champion.
36:21Back to 13.
36:22Brunson's got 27.
36:24And while I am so impressed with Harper, Stephen Castle has to get going.
36:29He's got to find some rhythm here.
36:32Bile away from the ball.
36:33It's going to go against the Knicks.
36:36Ananobi.
36:37And that's four on Ananobi.
36:39Four on Towns.
36:40And we still have 251 remaining.
36:43That's the Knicks' fifth foul.
36:44So they're in the penalty.
36:45And Keldon Johnson will shoot.
36:52The Spurs could really use Keldon Johnson.
36:54The heart and soul of the team.
36:56NBA sixth man in the regular season.
36:58Really the spirit of the team.
36:59But he's only scored 15 total points.
37:03Prior to today's game four.
37:06Here in the finals tonight.
37:0812 minutes.
37:08Four points.
37:09Four rebounds.
37:10Harper gets a much-deserved ovation.
37:12As we go to the NBA app for complete finals coverage.
37:15Live post-game press conferences.
37:16With Jalen Brunson.
37:18Victor Wimanyama.
37:19And here Coach Brown and Johnson's game five reaction.
37:22Download the NBA app today.
37:27Champagne offensive rebound off a missed free throw.
37:31Josh Hart shaking up.
37:33Johnson fakes.
37:34Throws an alley-oop to Cornette.
37:35Blocked by Hutt-Party.
37:37Goodness.
37:38What a recovery.
37:39Came from the perimeter.
37:42Clarkson.
37:43Can't connect.
37:45Cornette couldn't hold on.
37:46But Castle there to bail him out.
37:48That would have been big if they could have converted that.
37:50Because that's an incredible defensive play at the rim by the Knicks.
37:55And another foul against New York.
37:56More free throws.
37:57This one's gonna go against Miles McBride.
38:01Hutt-Party barely seen any time in this series.
38:03He gets beat off the dribble on that head fake.
38:05And this is just a tremendous amount of ground to recover.
38:09And then Knicks had numbers in the open floor.
38:13With an opportunity to get it to 11.
38:15But not able to convert that corner three.
38:17Hutt-Party when he played in Australia one year.
38:19He led the NBL in block shots.
38:22And has hardly played here in these playoffs.
38:24As the third string center.
38:26Castle misses the free throw.
38:28When Minyama's gonna come back in for the last 225.
38:34And Steph Castle's gotta get his head in the game.
38:36He's so talented.
38:38He's so good.
38:39He's been dominant all postseason.
38:41So, yes, he's 0 for 7, 0 for 3 from 3.
38:44But he has more than just a scoring impact on this game.
38:47Coaches would tell me, hey, if you're struggling from the field,
38:50go get me some rebounds.
38:52Go play some defense.
38:53Don't focus so much on your makes and misses.
38:56But they're going to need him.
38:57Because they have struggled in fourth quarters.
38:59He's been their second leading scorer in the playoffs.
39:02Was their third leading scorer in the regular season.
39:04Just his second year in the NBA.
39:07And that group had actually extended the lead.
39:09But Mitch Johnson comes back with Weminyama.
39:12Weminyama anyway to close this quarter.
39:14I thought maybe he was gonna let him get an additional rest there.
39:18Because the lead had maintained.
39:20Hart to Huck-Porty.
39:23Five on the 24.
39:24Hart tries a 3-pointer.
39:26Nails it!
39:27Josh Hart!
39:27His second 3-pointer.
39:32Back to 12 under 2 to play.
39:34It's a big shot, RJ.
39:35Josh Hart doesn't usually take those off the dribble from that distance.
39:40Fox.
39:41Champenny launches a 3-pointer.
39:43In and out.
39:44Weminyama knocks it loose.
39:45Comes up with a play.
39:47Stolen by Brunson.
39:50Brunson a crossover.
39:51Inside.
39:52Layup won't go.
39:53Huck-Porty the rebound.
39:56McBride up top.
39:58Jordan Clarkson.
39:59Blocked by Harper.
40:01Still McBall with 11 to shoot.
40:04Foxson.
40:04Telling Tyler Ford he got hit.
40:09The great recovery here also by Harper.
40:12He's beat cleanly on that closeout.
40:16But Jordan Clarkson not able to get that up to the rim before Harper recovers to save that.
40:22The sell back in.
40:25Castle will sit.
40:28Fox also win.
40:33McBride to Huck-Porty.
40:36Finds Brunson.
40:37Brunson.
40:38Three-pointer.
40:39Won't go.
40:40But a foul.
40:42Harper's gonna pick up his third.
40:45And that's marked there by Brunson.
40:47He was chasing him so hard.
40:49So what you do when you feel that player you know you're gonna stop and start.
40:53They don't.
40:54So he does a great job of sprinting.
40:56Catching that motion.
40:58And he's been trailing him off the screen to his right.
41:00He feels it.
41:02Harper's trying to get there and then has trouble stopping.
41:04That's a smart play there by Brunson.
41:09Only the 10th and 11th free throw for the Knicks.
41:12Brunson now 28 points.
41:14Mitchell Robinson's gonna come in.
41:16Huck-Porty will sit.
41:19Upcoming NBA final schedule.
41:20Both games on ABC.
41:22Both at 8.30 Eastern.
41:24Spurs win this one.
41:25We go back to New York.
41:26Game 6 Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
41:28And a Game 7 would be next Friday.
41:31Right back here in Texas.
41:33And if the Knicks wanna make a run here to close the quarter and then into the fourth.
41:37Jalen Brunson.
41:39To your point RJ.
41:40He's gonna need some help.
41:41From Ananobi and Towns.
41:43Both of those guys four fouls.
41:45Both very quiet nights.
41:47Offensively.
41:48But capable of giving that supplemental offense.
41:51If the Knicks are within striking distance.
41:52Of course the story of these finals has been the fourth quarter.
41:56And the Knicks coming up with the big plays.
41:59The massive comeback in Game 4.
42:01Another huge comeback.
42:03In Game 1.
42:05Brunson knocks it down.
42:07He's got 14 of his 30.
42:09Here in the third.
42:10Back to 9.
42:12Under a minute and a half left.
42:13Fox gets loose.
42:15This floater on the paint.
42:16It's up and good.
42:17Just his third field goal.
42:19But it puts the Spurs back up 11.
42:23Knicks unable to contain the ball out here at half court.
42:25Yet two guards.
42:26And Fox able to turn the corner.
42:28Put them both in his rear view mirror.
42:30McBride misses.
42:31Harper the rebound.
42:33Nick Finch still scoreless.
42:36Harper poked away from behind by Clarkson.
42:38But it finds Fox.
42:39Back out Harper.
42:40Sex fires three pointer.
42:42Rebound Robinson.
42:49Brunson to Clarkson.
42:51Clarkson gets in the paint.
42:52His floater is up and good.
42:54Soft touch.
42:54And there's the first points from the Knick bench.
42:57And they're back with a 9.
43:01Spurs have a chance for a 2 for 1.
43:04Doesn't look like they're going to go quick enough to get it though.
43:09Fox wide open.
43:10Three pointer.
43:11Buster.
43:12Robinson.
43:13Hauls it in.
43:16There's about a 2 second difference shot clock and game clock.
43:19Both teams in the penalty.
43:21As Vassell gets up on Brunson.
43:29Brunson drives on Vassell.
43:31Gets inside.
43:31Stops.
43:32Falling away is up.
43:33In and out.
43:34Robinson.
43:34Tip is good.
43:35With 4.1 remaining.
43:37Here's Wimby.
43:38Plenty of time.
43:393 pointer at the buzzer.
43:42And that will end the third.
43:45Spurs went up by as many as 15.
43:48Knicks cut into it.
43:50This one's a rock fight.
43:52Here in game 5.
43:5312 minutes to go.
43:55Can the Knicks clinch a championship?
43:57Can the Spurs force a game 6?
43:59We head to the 4th quarter.
44:0172-65.
44:03Spurs.
44:10Tony Odilon.
44:11You guys have been here before.
44:12With a lead going into the 4th quarter.
44:14How do you change the ending?
44:16The biggest thing is closing the game out.
44:18Going after the mentality that we got to win the quarter.
44:21And for you Dylan.
44:22You're a rookie playing in the NBA Finals.
44:24What's going to be going through your mind in this 4th quarter.
44:27As you guys try to push this to a game 6.
44:29We got to win no matter what it takes.
44:32No matter what we do.
44:32We got to win.
44:33All right.
44:33Thanks for your time.
44:34Mike.
44:35Facing elimination once again.
44:37Lisa Towns goes inside.
44:38Back in the game.
44:39And throws it out of bounds.
44:40Towns has only played 15 minutes.
44:42Has had 4 fouls.
44:43Been in foul trouble the entire game.
44:45And I tell you what.
44:46If I'm Mitch Johnson, I'm not sitting Dylan Harper very long.
44:49Couple of minutes.
44:50Right now he is so comfortable offensively in a game that has had very little of it.
44:55But you're going to need Dylan Harper out there for the majority of this 4th quarter.
44:59And for the Knicks, it feels like one of the two guys I mentioned earlier.
45:03Karl-Anthony Towns, as you can see, has no rhythm.
45:05Our OGN and Noby have to inject themselves in this game.
45:08So it's Johnson, Castle, Vassell, Lemonyama, and Fox.
45:15Castle gets in the paint.
45:16Kicks it back out.
45:17Johnson left open.
45:183-pointer.
45:19It's good.
45:20Heldon Johnson knocks down a huge 3.
45:23And a lead back up to 10.
45:28Alvarado down the lane.
45:30Kicks it out in the corner.
45:30Up top.
45:31Hart.
45:32Hart left wide open.
45:33And Hart makes them pay.
45:35His third 3-pointer.
45:37You can't make them guard you, but you can make them wish they had.
45:41Jose Alvarado gets in that paint.
45:43They've got to be able to get a good shot.
45:45Josh Hart knocks it down.
45:47But whenever he breaks that plane, they've got to make them pay.
45:50Vassell can't hit.
45:51Johnson the rebound.
45:54Vassell fakes.
45:55Drives Wemonyama.
45:56Baseline.
45:57Drive and flush.
45:58Some French fury there.
46:02Smart play by Wemby because Carl Anthony Towns is on the baseline, but he turned his body, got out of
46:08the way, did not want to pick up that trip.
46:11B.
46:12Dad!
46:13B.
46:14Bridges looking.
46:16B.
46:16B.
46:17Wemby's guarding Hart now, Johnson switches off.
46:19Once again, the shot clock winding down.
46:22They're not doing it.
46:23Hart drives on Vassell.
46:25Stolen by Johnson.
46:26Stolen back.
