00:23ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
00:44Hello, everybody. Good evening.
00:47Buenas tardes, as they say here in sunny Barcelona.
00:51And we're back, back-to-back races here in Formula 1 2026
00:56for the seventh round of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
01:00The Grand Prix of, don't call it the Spanish Grand Prix,
01:03because that's coming later in the year, we think,
01:04or is that the Madrid Grand Prix, Barcelona-Catalunya.
01:07With me, standing in for David Croft, is Harry Benjamin.
01:10Standing over us is Harry Benjamin and Craig Slater.
01:13Afternoon, all. We well?
01:15Afternoon. Nice to be back. Thanks for having me.
01:17It's good that you can actually recall what the name of the race is,
01:19because it's said in great big letters.
01:21Well, I'm reading it on that one over there,
01:23but it is the Barcelona in Catalonia.
01:25So do we think Madrid is not the Spanish Grand Prix?
01:27No, Madrid will be the Spanish Grand Prix.
01:28Will it? Yeah.
01:29OK, at the Mad Ring. At the Mad Ring.
01:31Yeah. OK.
01:32I'm going there next week to have a little look around.
01:33Are you? I am. OK.
01:35With the Monumental. Is the corner called the Monumental?
01:37Yes. And, well, with Zandvoort off the calendar,
01:39I think it will become the steepest corner in Formula 1 next year.
01:43OK. I hope it's better...
01:44More than Eau Rouge?
01:45Now that it's dressed up.
01:47Banking-wise.
01:47Oh, banking-wise.
01:48I mean, I was there when it was just a...
01:49It looked like the Grand Prix of Hounslow,
01:52not to be...
01:52Or kind of...
01:53Well, you know, it was right next to...
01:55In what way?
01:55It was near the airport and sort of exhibition centre.
01:58But I think once the stands are added,
02:00it will have a lot more character and atmosphere, obviously.
02:03But that was my initial concern,
02:05visiting the site months ago.
02:07Well, our office is near Hounslow.
02:08It's not a building site like...
02:09Yes, a bit like the Grand Prix of Sky or whatever.
02:12Good idea.
02:12Stefano Di Minicali?
02:14We've got an idea for you.
02:15Right.
02:16Well, the point of Paddock Uncut...
02:18Welcome to Paddock Uncut.
02:19Yeah, what a star.
02:21We've already had a new Grand Prix.
02:22Is to give people the inside line
02:24on what's been going on in the paddock so far.
02:28And lots of stories, I've got to tell you,
02:31carrying on from the Monaco Grand Prix,
02:33not least the fact that you don't hear this very often,
02:36the FIA appear to have admitted making a mistake
02:38with the pit lane speeding penalties.
02:40More of that later.
02:41But all of the attention has been on the wunderkind of Formula One
02:47at the moment, Kimi Antonelli.
02:49And here, outside Mercedes, he is going for six in a row.
02:53Almost unprecedented, certainly from a driver
02:55only in his second year of Formula One.
02:57But how does the man himself feel coming here,
02:59having won five on the bounce?
03:01We are not really worrying about it.
03:05Of course, I know what's the opportunity,
03:10you know, the opportunity that is on the table.
03:13And of course, I want to make the best out of it
03:16and trying to maximize it.
03:19But at the same time,
03:20I don't want to drive or race thinking about that.
03:25I just want to try to really focus on the process,
03:28on what I have to do
03:29and trying to enjoy as much as possible as well.
03:32The driving, the weekend,
03:34and, you know, just trying to drive as fast as possible.
03:36And then we'll see where we end up at the end of the year.
03:41So, I wasn't in the press conference.
03:43I was in the pen doing some other interviews.
03:44So, I didn't hear what he was not worried about.
03:46Yes.
03:46What was he not worried about?
03:47The person who was in the press conference.
03:49The thing I asked him was mainly about, you know,
03:50what's changed since pre, since last season to this season.
03:54And it's a load of things.
03:56It's not worrying about all the various processes
03:58of what's going on with the car
03:59and why is this not working
04:01and why is that not working.
04:02And just having a more overall feel
04:04and a comfort with the team around him.
04:06And from week in, week out,
04:09he's not worrying about turning up to a track
04:10for the first time,
04:11A, having not raced it either.
04:12One of the things he actually brought up
04:13was the idea of energy
04:15and the energies he's feeling.
04:16And that is, from race to race,
04:18something he's a lot more comfortable with.
04:20And I think that explains quite a lot for a driver
04:22because a lot of it is done on feel, right?
04:23And if he's got this good energy about him
04:25and he's feeling that from the team,
04:27he's getting it back,
04:28then it's a match made in heaven.
04:30Yeah, he's quite...
04:31I mean, we go on about the natural instincts
04:33and driving talent of Kimi Antonelli,
04:35but actually he's got an analytical brain.
04:38And even remember last year,
04:40that problem weekend,
04:41that weekend when he had all his schoolmates
04:42down at the track,
04:43almost a year ago this week
04:45or a couple of weeks ago,
04:47it drained him of energy
04:49having to do all of that.
04:50And I think very quickly
04:52he has made corrections
04:53or appraised when he had time,
04:55what worked, what didn't,
04:56how do I change the people around me
04:58or my routine.
04:59And it is all paying off.
05:01Are you a big believer of that phrase,
05:04that things happen for a reason?
05:06And I'm just wondering,
05:07when I think about that time in Imola,
05:09when he invited all his team
05:10and his school friends,
05:12there was a big distraction,
05:14took away some of the focus,
05:15perhaps what he later admits.
05:17Yeah.
05:17He was exhausted.
05:18He was exhausted before the weekend even happened.
05:20There was nobody in the team said,
05:22not sure if you should do that, Kimi,
05:23I'm not sure it's something that...
05:25Let him find out himself.
05:26Is that what you were saying?
05:27Let him find out, yeah.
05:28Is it sometimes that things happen for a reason?
05:30I would agree with you.
05:32I think things happen for a reason
05:33and things don't happen for a reason
05:34on the other side of it as well.
05:35And I think he's generally going from race to race.
05:39He also said, you know,
05:40I'm not thinking about the championship,
05:42but, you know,
05:42whether or not you believe him.
05:44We've heard it all before, I know.
05:45But he has this aura about him.
05:48Even when he swanned into the press conference,
05:50it actually wasn't a swan,
05:51it was just a...
05:52He had a confident air about him.
05:54Immediately chatting to Tom Clarkson,
05:55who does the hosting of it,
05:57asking about, you know,
05:58being really personable with everybody.
06:00He was the first one there as well.
06:02He was early,
06:03didn't want to be slapped with a bill from the FIA.
06:05So all of that,
06:06I just feel like he's got this air about him,
06:08which he didn't always have last year.
06:11It's a 66-point air.
06:13Yeah, yeah, he can afford to.
06:15If it's 10 points for two races to go,
06:17if he's still this calm, let's see.
06:18And he's still got time to ask
06:19if anyone's seen his towel.
06:21So have you seen his towel?
06:23I last saw it in the hands of a Kardashian.
06:25OK.
06:26Have you seen his towel?
06:27No.
06:27Has anyone seen his towel?
06:28I wouldn't touch his towel, though.
06:30Quite right.
06:31But what does everybody else think
06:32about the phenomenon that is Andrea Kimi Antonelli?
06:36Well, we asked around,
06:37and first,
06:38the man who likes to think
06:39that when he was test and reserve driver here
06:42in Mercedes,
06:43he was somewhat of a coach and mentor
06:45for the young Italian.
06:47About Kimi,
06:48I'm really impressed.
06:49I knew he would make a step for this year
06:51after the rookie season,
06:53but he's made a bigger step
06:54than anyone could have imagined.
06:56And I think he has surprised
06:57even the team.
06:59He's just delivering.
07:01He's quick.
07:02He's avoiding mistakes,
07:04driving in a very mature way
07:05on all kinds of tracks now.
07:07So it would be nice
07:09to be in Kimi's shoes at the moment.
07:11You know,
07:11he's now got the real momentum
07:12and unlike George.
07:14So it's just how the sport goes sometimes,
07:17but I'm impressed.
07:18I think the closer it gets to the championship,
07:20normally the pressure also gets higher and higher.
07:22As we saw last year with Oscar and Lando,
07:24the closer you get to that crunch point
07:27when you see the championship is yours or not,
07:30I think that's when it gets real
07:31and I back 100% Kimi that he can do it.
07:35I didn't expect this dominance at all.
07:40It's very surprising even to everyone,
07:44but probably not him.
07:46So that's good.
07:48Yeah,
07:49I expected his teammate to be a lot closer.
07:55Like we saw at the start of the year
07:56and then suddenly Kimi just picked up the pace.
07:59So I'm happy for him.
08:01That's good.
08:02He's beating everyone he needs to.
08:03He's not making mistakes.
08:05You know,
08:06there's been a lot of qualifyings
08:07where the qualifying has still been close,
08:09but he's performing under pressure
08:10and he's dominating the races.
08:12So I expected him to take a good step.
08:16I don't think anyone expected him to win five in a row
08:18at this point of the season.
08:19I always knew the fight was going to be tight with Kimi
08:24as it should always be with two great drivers.
08:28He's doing, you know,
08:29a really amazing job at the moment.
08:32So I give him a huge amount of credit
08:35and yeah,
08:36just excited for me to try
08:37and get a clean weekend under my belt
08:42and, you know,
08:44try and bring the fight back to him.
08:47A clean weekend.
08:48So yes,
08:49that's what's going on.
08:51Everyone,
08:51I mean,
08:51eventually we will,
08:52I think,
08:53tire of asking everybody
08:54what they think of the phenomenon
08:56that is Kimi Antonelli.
08:58It seems right at the moment.
08:59I mean,
08:59we can't do it again after six in a row.
09:02Keep going.
09:03Oh, no.
09:04But in five in a row.
09:06But yeah,
09:07what about George?
09:09I always think,
09:10and I've thought this quite often in Formula One,
09:12when you sometimes get someone
09:13with a big points gap or deficit,
09:16you start rationalising
09:18a little bit too much
09:20why that is the reason.
09:22And I do actually align with George
09:25on the fact that he's had a lot of bad luck.
09:28He could have had a whole heap more points.
09:30And so actually,
09:31I think that the notion
09:33that Kimi is significantly quicker,
09:36which people are beginning to say more often now,
09:38certainly based on the last couple of races,
09:40is that he looks faster.
09:42I'm not entirely sure
09:43things would have panned out that way.
09:45Carry on, Greg.
09:46Carry on.
09:47So, yeah,
09:48I think,
09:50I've got a feeling
09:50the luck will even itself out.
09:52And maybe in a half dozen races time,
09:54I'm sure Kimi will still be ahead,
09:55but maybe there'll be that seed of doubt
09:57at which way this championship's going to go.
09:59The points gap
10:00doesn't fairly tell the story.
10:03Not so far.
10:03It's not that George has been failing
10:06to optimise his car
10:08and he's been well off the pace
10:09and he's not been up there and fighting.
10:11You know,
10:12just go to last week in Monaco,
10:13he should have picked up a bag full of points,
10:15maybe not on the podium,
10:16but then ended outside of the points.
10:18So it doesn't reflect the story of the season so far.
10:21And, you know,
10:22at the time,
10:22we still don't know how long this season's going to be
10:24when it comes to races.
10:25There's still time for that luck
10:27to swing back George's way.
10:29George will want 22,
10:29that's for sure.
10:30He'll want the full.
10:31He needs them.
10:31He'll want it all.
10:32But I played,
10:34I mean,
10:34playing football is probably a strong word
10:36to say this morning.
10:36I helped kick a ball at George Russell this morning
10:39as he came in.
10:40Did you?
10:40Yeah,
10:41we were doing a sort of,
10:41you know,
10:42first touch challenge.
10:43Okay.
10:43World Cup fever and all that.
10:45And I was actually a bit sort of surprised
10:48at how,
10:49you know,
10:49maybe it was first thing in the morning,
10:50but he was so full of beans,
10:51full of confidence,
10:52really up for it,
10:53happy,
10:53smiley.
10:54And that kind of character
10:56is not somebody who's worried.
10:58He's not somebody who's feeling
11:00that he's on the back foot.
11:01He knows what he's got to do.
11:02He knows he can do it.
11:03I don't think he's getting sort of this idea of,
11:06right,
11:06okay,
11:06Kimi is quicker than me now
11:07and I've got to start getting out there.
11:09Just,
11:10this is a,
11:11if Monaco was a kind of test track
11:14for qualifying excellence
11:15and Kimi Antonelli passed that test,
11:17this is another kind of almost standardized
11:20bellwether circuit
11:21in terms of race pace
11:23and maybe overall qualifying pace as well.
11:26It's another significant weekend
11:28if Kimi can beat George
11:29because of that,
11:30I think,
11:31but maybe it's an opportunity
11:32if George is the more rounded package
11:34for him to post a decent win this weekend.
11:37He needs a result.
11:38He does,
11:39which is why he didn't seem too worried.
11:41He hasn't been,
11:42he's shaken off the whole bamboozled.
11:44That will be a word of the season,
11:46won't it?
11:47Bamboozled.
11:47What was he said to you?
11:49He's talked about it being the...
11:50The summer of George.
11:51Is that what he said?
11:52I asked,
11:52could it be the summer of George
11:54and is this the Russell reset?
11:56But he instead,
11:58rather than not getting my Seinfeld references,
12:00he was talking about
12:01how he sort of mentally deals
12:03with the pressures of a Grand Prix season,
12:05especially when it's not going entirely his way.
12:08It's like a psychological rollercoaster.
12:10This sport,
12:11you go through the ups,
12:13the downs,
12:14even the travel,
12:15the sleep,
12:16it all has an effect
12:17on you psychologically,
12:19pressure,
12:21stress,
12:22and
12:23it's something I've worked on
12:25for the last six years,
12:26to be honest,
12:27and
12:29honestly,
12:29something I've spoken a lot,
12:31you know,
12:31this week about
12:32coming off the back of Monaco,
12:33of course,
12:34I feel,
12:35I felt like everything
12:36is going against me,
12:37and
12:38when you look at
12:38the headlines
12:40of
12:40where I am in the championship,
12:43the run of form Kimi is on,
12:45you know,
12:45it's,
12:45of course,
12:46it feels like a bit of a,
12:47a kick in the teeth,
12:48but then when I think about things
12:51objectively,
12:52and I think
12:53we comfortably could have had
12:55three more podiums
12:56this season,
12:57not even with good luck,
12:58just with
12:58a normal race,
13:00we probably would have had
13:01three more podiums,
13:03two out of three sprint race victories,
13:06the championship would look very different,
13:08and then
13:09the slightly bad weekend in Monaco
13:11and Miami
13:12doesn't seem like such a big deal,
13:13so
13:16for me,
13:16it's very,
13:17very helpful,
13:18very important,
13:19I feel in a good place
13:20coming into,
13:21to Barcelona,
13:22because
13:23I feel the things I can control,
13:26it's been,
13:27hasn't been a perfect season,
13:28but it's been a good season,
13:29and somewhere I can
13:30keep on building from.
13:34Okay,
13:34right,
13:35so that is the,
13:36the Mercedes guys
13:38dealt with,
13:39now,
13:39let's get on,
13:40shall we,
13:41the reason that Craig has got a,
13:43his document out there,
13:45on his portable electronic device,
13:47is that we have had
13:49some news from the FIA
13:50that
13:51it looks like
13:53all,
13:54potentially,
13:54of the
13:56pit lane speeding infractions
13:58at the Monaco Grand Prix
13:59might have been given
14:00incorrectly,
14:01and that they might not have been
14:02speeding after all,
14:03can you give us the key line
14:05in,
14:05in,
14:06in their initial findings?
14:07So they,
14:08they have
14:08accepted
14:09Alpine's appeal,
14:11and they'll hear,
14:11hear the case again
14:12in front of the stewards,
14:13and the key aspect to this,
14:15people will know
14:16that these speeding fines,
14:18and there's Lando Norris,
14:19just arriving,
14:20his team mate,
14:20Oscar Piastri,
14:21got one during the race,
14:22Lando didn't.
14:23Piastri did,
14:23Lando didn't.
14:24But it's because
14:24people think that
14:26the,
14:27the distance
14:28that the,
14:28the timing sensors
14:29were measuring
14:30were shorter,
14:32was longer,
14:33rather than the actual
14:34distances covered
14:35by the cars.
14:36So it says here,
14:37Formula One management,
14:38as official timekeeping
14:40supplier
14:40to the competition,
14:42provided evidence
14:44that the distance
14:45used in calculating
14:47the F1 official timing,
14:49and hence
14:49the pit lane speed,
14:51was inaccurate.
14:52So surely...
14:54And overestimated
14:55the speed of car 10.
14:56So surely that,
14:57that's,
14:57that leads to a,
14:58an overturn in,
15:00in Gasly,
15:00in specifics result.
15:02I've never known.
15:03But then it causes
15:03a headache.
15:04So the issue is,
15:05no, you're right,
15:06that's, that's...
15:06I've never known them
15:07to be so...
15:08Yeah.
15:09To admit a,
15:09a fault.
15:10A timing mistake.
15:11Well,
15:13so they,
15:14they,
15:15they,
15:15they cite Formula One
15:16management,
15:17who,
15:17who supply
15:18the timekeeping
15:20instrumentation.
15:21Yeah,
15:21FOM do most
15:22of the infrastructure
15:23around the circuit.
15:23So the FIA
15:25are receivers
15:26of that data,
15:27is,
15:27is their position.
15:28Well,
15:28everyone is,
15:29yeah.
15:29So in a sense,
15:29they are casting
15:31the blame towards
15:33Formula One management.
15:34But they have to,
15:35they have to appreciate
15:37how and where
15:38that data has come from.
15:39So I think that is a,
15:41we'll have to,
15:41let's see what the
15:42final decision is
15:43on this.
15:44But key to Gasly's
15:46situation is that
15:47he did not serve
15:48the penalty
15:49for the,
15:50for the speeding
15:51client.
15:51Yeah.
15:52So that means
15:52he can appeal.
15:53Had he,
15:54had he served
15:56the penalty
15:57in this question,
15:58he would not
15:59have been able
15:59to appeal it.
16:00But he looks like
16:01getting the podium
16:01back.
16:01Yeah.
16:02I mean,
16:02we want to hear
16:02the drivers in this
16:03program.
16:03So we haven't got time.
16:04We will be,
16:05no,
16:06I don't mean we don't
16:06want to hear from you,
16:07my friend.
16:08I mean,
16:09we will be telling
16:09you about loops
16:10and what they look
16:11like and how they're
16:12measured and all of
16:13this.
16:13And Karun's gone
16:13through it in the
16:14Skypad.
16:14We'll be doing
16:15that.
16:15Don't you worry
16:15about it
16:16throughout the
16:16whole weekend.
16:17So stay with us
16:18for that.
16:18But we want to
16:19hear from all the
16:20drivers and they've
16:21had things to say,
16:22not least Pierre Gasly
16:24about whether he
16:25is the only team
16:26and driver affected
16:27who did appeal.
16:28And it's too late
16:29for all the others.
16:30We've got a list
16:30here actually just
16:31quickly of all the
16:31people who did get
16:32done for speeding
16:33in the pit lane
16:34in Monaco.
16:35But it was only
16:36Alpine and Gasly
16:37who actually lodged
16:38an appeal and that
16:40time limit to lodge
16:41an appeal has now
16:42expired.
16:43So all of those
16:43other people,
16:44Hamilton, Russell,
16:45Piastri, Colopinto,
16:46they can't now
16:48appeal their
16:49penalties.
16:50Not that perhaps it
16:51would affect their
16:51race or they could
16:52do anything about it
16:53because the time
16:54has elapsed.
16:55but Gasly got two,
16:56they did appeal and
16:58this is what he said
16:58when he heard the
16:59initial news about
17:00what Craig just read
17:01out.
17:02Are you confident,
17:04is the team confident
17:04that you can absolutely
17:05prove that you were
17:07not going above the
17:09speed limit?
17:09Yeah, we have good
17:12evidence and the team
17:13worked really hard to
17:16build a strong case
17:18for ourselves and it's
17:19very clear to us.
17:20So obviously now we
17:21have to wait for the
17:22hearing to happen and
17:24for that discussion
17:25to take place but
17:27yeah, we're confident.
17:28So if you can prove
17:30that you were not
17:30speeding, that the
17:32infraction did not
17:33take place, that
17:35puts the FIA in a
17:37slightly difficult
17:37position, doesn't it?
17:38Because would you
17:39accept the 15 points
17:40for third?
17:41You don't get a trophy
17:42or maybe you do, I
17:43don't know, they
17:43can't change, can they
17:44change the result now?
17:45Let's have the
17:45conversation after the
17:46hearing in a few
17:48minutes but yeah, all
17:49I know is we crossed
17:50that line in third
17:51place.
17:54and yeah, I think
17:55it's great just for our
17:57sport to have the
17:57conversation and, you
17:58know, kind of review
17:59what happened because
18:02as I said, we have
18:04evidence that shows
18:05we're not over
18:06speeding and it's
18:08great to have the
18:09chance, you know, to
18:10discuss it together
18:10and for the future of
18:12our sport, make it in
18:13a better place.
18:14Okay, and sorry if I
18:15can, just explain the
18:16cool down lap.
18:17You obviously knew the
18:18penalty was coming.
18:19Were you just
18:20determined to enjoy the
18:21moment, no matter what?
18:23Exactly, a lot of
18:23emotions, a lot of
18:25adrenaline, a lot of
18:26mixed emotions, proud
18:29performance of the day,
18:32crossing that line in
18:33third place, my whole
18:34family, friends, yeah, a
18:37bit of disbelief of the
18:41situation and the
18:42penalty, etc.
18:43So, a lot of things
18:44going on and, yeah, it
18:46was my way of having my
18:48moment at that time.
18:49How was the
18:50conversation between you
18:51drivers after so many
18:53penalties in Monaco?
18:57Yeah, I mean, we
18:58obviously talked about it.
19:01I think we were all a
19:03little surprised with what
19:06was going on because we'd
19:08never really been in a
19:09situation where so many
19:10drivers have been caught
19:14speeding, you know, so,
19:18yeah, we definitely had a
19:19conversation.
19:20I don't want to give too
19:21much details, but I think
19:23we're all a bit confused
19:24with the situation.
19:27You're not the only ones,
19:28Pierre.
19:28We're all confused with the
19:29situation.
19:30Okay, two things on this.
19:31Firstly, can you blame him
19:32and do you think it's quite
19:33cool and fun to do the, I
19:35don't care that I'm not
19:36going to keep it, but I'm
19:37going to celebrate anyway
19:39on the cool down lap?
19:40I mean, when I saw that,
19:41it felt pretty genuine at the
19:42time to me, but that he felt
19:44like he had it.
19:45And if it gives him a taste of
19:47what it's like on the podium
19:48and without getting it and
19:49then he gets it back, then
19:50he's had a small, a small
19:52celebration authentically.
19:54Sources from within Alpine
19:56suggested to me he was doing
19:57it sarcastically to point out
20:01He was doing it for a long
20:02while, though.
20:03He was, to point out the
20:04unfairness, underscore the
20:06unfairness of being deprived
20:07of third place.
20:09It's quite a long thing to do
20:11with lots of energy just for
20:12spite, basically.
20:13Not spite, but he's up, you
20:15know, you're making a point,
20:16aren't you?
20:17No, I think he's clarified
20:18there.
20:18But then to see him after the
20:19race, he was happy to...
20:20He was, he had a face like
20:22thunder and you can't blame
20:22him.
20:23And it's sort of carried
20:23into today a little bit.
20:24All right, that's point one.
20:25Point two, are we in the
20:27position then that we think that
20:29the FIA are probably not
20:31going to overturn or cannot
20:33overturn the result of the
20:34Monaco Grand Prix and
20:35instead will come out when
20:37they come out with it and
20:38we're still waiting, aren't
20:38we?
20:39Possibly tomorrow for a final
20:40decision?
20:41Friday.
20:41And judgment tomorrow?
20:42Yes.
20:42Okay.
20:43In a kind of let's just put
20:46this down to experience and
20:48make sure it never happens
20:49again type thing.
20:50I know, I think the, you
20:52could get, you think they
20:53will, might get his podium.
20:54Yeah.
20:55I'd say so, yeah.
20:56You think they will?
20:56Yes.
20:57Yeah.
20:57I think that's where it's
20:58pointing.
20:58But he won't, he'll get 15
21:00points.
21:00Those are the protocols.
21:01He won't get to stand on the
21:02podium.
21:02No, but you'll get the
21:03trophy.
21:03Those are the protocols, I
21:04think.
21:05You even asked Isaac, would
21:07you have to hand the
21:08trophy over?
21:08And he said, if I have to,
21:10then yes.
21:11Should we hear that?
21:14Go on, let's hear that
21:14and let's talk about it
21:15some more.
21:17Yeah, I mean, at the
21:18end, it would only take
21:20away three points from me,
21:23which I want to keep.
21:24But it's, it's, at the end,
21:27that's the only thing
21:29because I felt like I was on
21:31that podium.
21:31It was real.
21:33And I was happy.
21:35And now we are already in
21:36Barcelona.
21:36So it would be a shame to
21:39change things.
21:43Thank you.
21:46What are they going to do?
21:47Take the trophy?
21:48Ask you to give the trophy
21:49to Pierre?
21:49I mean.
21:50Yeah, I mean, if I have to,
21:52yes.
21:52I mean, he's a friend, so.
21:54But yeah, I know it's
21:56difficult.
21:57Yeah.
21:58If they do it, I wish they
22:00did it faster, you know.
22:01Yeah, well.
22:02Now it's my trophy.
22:04I'm not giving it back.
22:06If I have to, I will.
22:07Okay.
22:08That would be a shame.
22:10Okay, I mean, I've seen
22:12results changed and trophies
22:13handed back.
22:15I remember Fisser Keller
22:16and Kimi Räikkönen on the
22:18grid in Imola after a race
22:19in Brazil, which was red
22:20flagged.
22:21But my point is, if you're
22:25accepting that all of those
22:27were wrong, all of those
22:29penalties were wrong, and
22:31all of those infractions
22:32didn't happen, then is it
22:34just hard luck down to the
22:36other teams who didn't put
22:37in a protest, and wouldn't
22:39they then want to revisit it
22:40later?
22:41Well, the fact they didn't
22:42put in a protest, I think
22:43that's what they will come
22:44back on, and they haven't
22:45done it in a...
22:46It didn't affect Lewis
22:46Houghton's race.
22:47He'd already served it.
22:48Exactly.
22:48George Russell had the
22:51foresight in the car to say,
22:53let's not serve it, and let's
22:55contest it after the race.
22:57He did, though, didn't he?
22:58I mean, and he was right.
23:00And so then that's when
23:00that's on the team, then.
23:01So you've got to question
23:02them afterwards.
23:03So I...
23:05Unfortunately, it opens up
23:06a rather large can of worms.
23:08Really?
23:08I mean, never mind that.
23:10A cauldron.
23:11What's a larger can of worms?
23:12A cauldron of worms?
23:14Is that where you were
23:14What's a bigger than a worm?
23:15Turin.
23:16I mean, I've never...
23:17I've very seldom known
23:19something like that.
23:20But, yeah, OK, well,
23:21listen, we will see.
23:22Maybe they just keep it as
23:23simple as Pierre Gasly gets
23:26the 15 points and the trophy.
23:30But we will see.
23:31We'll keep you up to date.
23:32Something else that's going
23:33around in Formula One is that
23:35some people, some engine
23:37manufacturers, are allowed
23:38to upgrade their engines if
23:40they're found to be wanting
23:41in power compared to the
23:42best.
23:43Now, given that they've won
23:44all the Grand Prix so far
23:45and won everything apart
23:46from one sprint race...
23:47Actually, no, they have.
23:48They've won the sprint race
23:49as well.
23:49Mercedes were thought to be
23:52the best engine.
23:53But no.
23:54It turns out the best
23:55internal combustion engine,
23:56at least, is the Red Bull.
23:58And, well, it came as a bit
24:00of a surprise to some
24:01drivers.
24:03I think we were all
24:05a bit surprised in the team
24:07with that because, I mean,
24:09yes, I think we can be proud
24:10of the job that we have
24:11done, but we never felt like
24:13we were, let's say, the best.
24:16So that's why, yeah, we were
24:17surprised and that's why I
24:18think we were discussing
24:18with the FAA to understand
24:20what happened there.
24:23But let's see.
24:24Let's see what comes out of it.
24:27So what do we think is
24:28going to happen here?
24:29It was provisional?
24:30Well, I did ask him, do you
24:31think you can get it
24:32overturned then?
24:33Well, hang on.
24:33So what have you got?
24:35You've seen a document that
24:36says Red Bull is the bench
24:37setter.
24:37So Mercedes, Ferrari and Audi
24:42get one.
24:43No, no.
24:43Mercedes get one token.
24:45Get one and the others
24:45get two.
24:46And the others get two each.
24:46Correct, yeah.
24:47So, I mean, that came out
24:49when I saw that on Sunday
24:51evening in Monaco.
24:53Lewis Hamilton had
24:54clearly seen this already.
24:55Lewis called it a token,
24:56but really it's an
24:57opportunity to upgrade.
24:58You're allowed to upgrade
24:59your engine.
24:59I think it is significant
25:00that it hasn't been made
25:00public.
25:01So maybe there is more
25:03discussion room.
25:04Maybe there is leave to
25:05contest this and they didn't
25:08want to make it public.
25:09So I did ask Max immediately
25:11afterwards there, so are you
25:12looking to contest this?
25:13And he says, well, that's why
25:15we're having the discussion.
25:16So clearly he thinks there's
25:17something to be gained there.
25:18I mean, it's sounding like just
25:19from hearing today that the talk
25:21out of Red Bull is that they are
25:21pushing for some kind of review
25:23into this because on the face of
25:25it, how does that possibly stack up?
25:26But we know they're looking at
25:28the ICE side, they're not
25:29looking at the electrical side,
25:31but even that has a big
25:32question mark over itself.
25:33Why are they not doing that?
25:34So I think there's, because
25:35this has got ramifications not
25:37just in the short term, but
25:38this is over the next couple of
25:39seasons.
25:40So this is a really big moment.
25:41There'll be a couple of other
25:42checks on the Agile with stuff
25:44after, I think it's Hungary and
25:45Mexico, where they'll do another
25:46recheck of it.
25:48But you've got to get it right
25:49now.
25:49So I'd rather that you have some
25:51sort of review, which I hope
25:52they do, to get it sorted now
25:54because on the face of it, the
25:55order, I think to us, to anyone
25:57watching at home, doesn't quite
25:58stack up.
26:00OK.
26:01Plenty of other stories going
26:02around the place.
26:03Name one.
26:04I liked Checo Perez making excuses
26:07for his out of position, but
26:08saying that the point that they
26:09might have chosen was still good
26:11for Cadillac.
26:11Yeah, I just had a 10-minute chat
26:14with him randomly.
26:16Different story, maybe?
26:16No, you could tell when you bring
26:18it up, it hurts him.
26:19And I think he knows that he made
26:21a mistake.
26:21And they seem convinced that there
26:23will be another opportunity to get
26:25points.
26:25And maybe they're right in this era
26:27of reliability being quite a big
26:29factor.
26:30But I think that what hurts more is
26:32that it went to Aston Martin.
26:33OK.
26:33Other big stories for you today?
26:35Lando Norris saying almost impossible
26:37for him to defend his title now, he
26:40thinks, but not beyond them to start
26:43winning races.
26:44Yes.
26:44Maybe, well, they've got an upgrade
26:45coming here.
26:46They were pinning quite a lot on it.
26:47So let's see how they get on here.
26:48Listen, McLaren go well at usual
26:51layout, circuit layouts like this.
26:53So they could definitely be on the
26:55podium or even more.
26:56Brakes and Charles Leclerc.
26:58Then there's the Brakes and
26:59Charles Leclerc.
27:00Exactly.
27:01Well, he's gone to different
27:02Brakes and that might have a better
27:04weekend.
27:05It's kind of political, isn't it?
27:06They've got this.
27:07Oh, don't start.
27:08No, not political, but it's...
27:09We need to get the statements.
27:10No, no more statements.
27:11No more statements.
27:13We'll do that in the session,
27:14Craig.
27:14I promise you.
27:15I promise you.
27:16It's the usual.
27:17We're back on air tomorrow.
27:19Usual European timings.
27:20Okay.
27:21Friday morning, Friday afternoon,
27:22F1 show, qualifying Saturday
27:24morning.
27:25It's not a sprint weekend.
27:26It's not a sprint weekend.
27:27Grand Prix 12.30.
27:28All right.
27:28Usual European timings.
27:30Harry, Craig, thank you so much.
27:32As you say, second of a back-to-back
27:35here in Europe from sunny Barcelona.
27:38And that's it for now.
27:39Thanks for your company.
27:39Looking forward to having you with us
27:41throughout the weekend.
27:42Bye-bye.
27:42Bye-bye.
