00:00The Stanley Cup isn't just a trophy, it's a hockey dream.
00:04Not only for myself, but it's everyone around.
00:07No better experience to win it and share it with them.
00:14Alright, we got Giorno!
00:15Jardy!
00:16Fly!
00:17Chadi!
00:18Slavo!
00:18Boss!
00:20In your mind, I gave you everything I had mentally tonight,
00:25and I gave you everything physically tonight.
00:28And we will be on the right end of this.
00:37Time for the siren sounder, one of the most popular players in Hurricanes franchise history.
00:44Mike Commodore.
00:46Dressed up for the occasion, a little more flow at the top of his head than he had back in
00:51his playing days.
00:53And now dominating the fairways and greens at Whisper Rock Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
01:01As usual, deafening noise made by the more than 18,000 on hand for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup
01:13Final.
01:15The Cup Final back in Raleigh for the first time in 20 years when they won the only Stanley Cup
01:21championship in franchise history back in 2006.
01:25Here's public address announcer, Wade Minter.
01:28Yes!
01:34Yes!
01:37Presenting tonight's colors is the Winston-Salem Fire Department Honor Guard.
01:41Now at this time, please rise if you are able.
01:45Kindly remove your caps and join us as we honor America with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner.
01:51Signed tonight by Raleigh resident and deaf performer with PXP, Karen DeSalut.
01:57And performed this evening by Adam Lee Decker.
02:08Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
02:18What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming
02:27Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
02:38O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming
02:49And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air
02:59Gave proof through the night
03:04That our flag was still there
03:13O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming
03:15Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
03:27O'er the land of the free
03:35And the home of the brave
03:44O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming
04:02The lights come up on game five.
04:06It's Carter Hart again.
04:07He was terrific coming into the stanley cup final but now is
04:11The first goalie in stanley cup final history to give up four goals or more
04:17In each of the first four games of the series
04:21Mike Hart brandon bussie's 27 years old he's much less experienced throughout their respective careers
04:27And in these playoffs third appearance for bussie came in and relief in the third period
04:32Was a part of the carolina comeback in game three that earned him to start in game four
04:39And he played well got the win third goaltender in NHL history to make his first career playoff start
04:46In a stanley cup final and pick up the win of the game
04:50First attack bassin for detroit back in 1961
04:54Wes mccauley and chris rooney are the referees
04:57Devin berg and matt mcpherson are the linesman
05:08Jordan stall out to take the opening face off against jack eichel
05:12Rod brendamore the carolina coach has tried to get stall on against eichel as often as he can in this
05:18series
05:19And they'll have the advantage with the last line change on home ice tonight
05:24Michael in on the floor check working on stall
05:29Same 18 skaters for both sides that have played in each of the first four games
05:35Are in action again tonight chase theodore out non-defense to open with braden mcnab
05:41The pass intended for stone stopped for a moment by a logan stan colvin
05:45Brink wide pass off the stick of stone and he has a stick lifted in the puck taken away by
05:51jackson blake
05:52The youngest hurricane at age 22
05:56Slaving hard around and a good pass to blake trying to shed Noah hannapin
06:01Blake had the puck roll off his stick at the top of the circle and it's logged in by william
06:07carlson icing waved off
06:09The crowd groans at that decision deandre miller took a hit as he moved the puck took a hit from
06:15brett howden
06:16Carlson had his pass blocked by blake
06:19Taylor hall sends it back in
06:22This has been by far the best line in the playoffs for carolina
06:27Hall with stancovin and blake they are the top three point men in the playoffs
06:31For the hurricanes tough angle shot
06:35Deflected up in out of the rink by sean walker as carlson tried to fire
06:39First shift of the game first moments of the game eichel and stall are gonna play against each other a
06:44lot
06:46Eichel flattened stall stall was sour as he takes the hit here. He's nowhere near the puck. This is an
06:53interference penalty for sure
06:55Stahl was a little rattled he went to the bench and kind of put his hands up in the air
06:59But eichel trying to make a physical dent early
07:03As emily reported pregame john tortorella thinks eichel is going to come to life tonight
07:11No goals in the last six just one goal in the last 17 but he had some excellent chances
07:17In game four particularly late as they were pressing to get the game time goal
07:21Andres fetch the cop played it ahead
07:24Race for the puck he wins the battle trying to get it to a hole
07:27And it was broken up by colton systems glove down by jaylen chatfield
07:33Played by tomas hurdle both sides throwing the body here in the first two minutes
07:37And that's an early start for fetch the cop. He's got to shoot that puck. He's their leading goal scorer
07:41He's right in that spot shoot the puck be aggressive. Tortorella told us this morning
07:45He's at his best when you notice his aggression
07:49Just four shots on goal through the first four games for spechnikoff
07:54Who this morning at the media availability called tonight the biggest game of his life and of course it is
07:59It's the first time he's been in a cup final
08:03And he's in game five in a series tied at two
08:06Scrum along the wall William Carrier there with Nick Dowd the primary participants
08:16And work free by Cole Smith down trying to deal with a stick that's on the ice
08:23Here's Keegan Colas are the right wing on this fourth line the fourth line is on for both sides at
08:29the moment
08:29And the puck gets played to the neutral zone Eric Robinson moved it in and it was taken back by
08:34Theodore
08:36He's been tremendous throughout the playoffs on defense with McNabb
08:41Theodore now plus 12 in this postseason through 20 games for Vegas
08:47DeAndre Miller
08:50And now Sean Walker
08:52Out to the red line and he scales it in and that wound up in the netting
08:57And a face-off with just more than three minutes gone by
09:02Sean you mentioned that John Tortorella thinks that Jack Eichel is about ready to bust out
09:06Maybe because in game four he fired one off the crossbar on the power play
09:10And late looking for the tying goal he has this chance
09:14That he's able to beat Bussey but it's just over the shoulder and over the crossbar
09:17Just two goals in the playoffs for Eichel which is remarkable for such a terrific player
09:22Tortorella also said he's one of the best players I've ever coached
09:26Maybe the difference in games five six and seven will be which of Eichel or Ajo can get on the
09:32score sheet
09:33He scored 27 goals in the regular season
09:35And for the talk about the lack of goal scoring he is second in points in these playoffs
09:40We find only Mitch Marner
09:42Who has 29
09:44Breaking Eichel's record in the single postseason for Vegas
09:47The jack set for 26 when they won the cup
09:50In 2023
09:52How to knock down on a hit by Walker
09:56Now Stan Coven tough angle shot
09:59He scored the first goal of game four
10:03Carolina's been getting off to quick starts and for the most time
10:06They have controlled the play in the first periods
10:11They've outshot
10:13The Vegas Golden Knights 41 to 14 in the first period through the first four games collectively
10:20And outscored them five to three
10:25Dylan Coghlan couldn't bat the puck out of mid-air
10:27Jordan Stahl is on it
10:29Nick Ehlers try to get it back to him
10:32Seth Jarvis remains on this line and
10:35Jordan Martin who started the series on the third line with
10:39Stahl and Ehlers has gone up alongside
10:41Ajo and Jarvis
10:44Slavin sidestepped the check
10:45He saw Barbashev coming
10:47And managed to avoid it
10:49Jarvis with some speed
10:51Jeremy Lizanne made him stop
10:53Chatfield's drive stopped by Hart
10:55Aggressively up to the top of the blue paint and beyond
10:59Ninety-one
11:00Ninety-one mile an hour shot
11:01From Chatfield
11:03Been rock-solid on defense
11:05Out there now with Shane Gostespierre
11:07Long pass ahead and it's dumped in by Jordan Martin
11:11Rasmus Anderson
11:12Was aware of Svechnikov coming
11:17Martin
11:18And it taken away and cleared by Noah Hannafin
11:22And snapped back in by Martin
11:24Hannafin
11:26Lots of continuous action
11:27Just two whistles so far
11:29They've played more than five minutes
11:31Here's Marner
11:32Eight points through the first four games
11:35Including four in one period
11:42Icing way off as Ajo did the job
11:45And now it's Theodore
11:47Watching both teams change lines
11:51And it's touched in from center ice by Hurdle
11:54And now Walker
11:59Walker hitting everything that moves
12:01He's done that already to start tonight
12:03Rod Brindamore said he's as competitive
12:05A player as he's ever been around
12:10And that's offside as it was carried in by Hurdle
12:13With Sissons well into the zone
12:15As well as being physical
12:17He's also a little mean as Sean Walker
12:19Watch as he comes through
12:21He's got Howden the leading goal scorer in the playoffs
12:23In his sights and he goes right through
12:25It's a perfect hit
12:27Shoulder right through the middle of the body
12:29As Howden drops down
12:30Jarvis thinks he's got a step
12:32Lausanne closes him off and there's the Chatfield 91 mile an hour heater
12:37Maybe the best scoring chance we've seen early as Chatfield joins the rush
12:40And forces hard into a stop
12:44Meanwhile Vegas can't manage a shot on goal
12:47That's been a problem in every first period
12:50In this series
12:51This is the deepest they've gone into a game
12:54Without a shot on goal nearly six full minutes for John Tortorella
12:58Every game seems to follow the same formula right
13:01That quick Carolina start
13:03Vegas gets their legs under them
13:05And they have a good second period
13:06It's like game after game after game
13:08It's really crazy
13:09It's been the same
13:11I sing the call
13:13Jankowski and Dowd giving each other a couple of whacks and some words
13:19Sean look at this offensive zone face off
13:21And John Tortorella mentioned to us before the game
13:25Hey we got three games at most left
13:27I might jam up some ice time here
13:30So he's got an offensive zone face off
13:32Marner, Eichel, Stone
13:33He's got all his big boys out for this draw against the Carolina fourth line
13:39Eichel and Jankowski the face off
13:43Carolina's won 56% of the face off
13:46Eichel won it cleanly back but too hot to handle for Anderson
13:49Who does not have a goal in 20 games in the playoffs
13:52After he had a career high 17
13:55In the regular season
13:58Stone moved it in after
14:01Anderson kept it in
14:05Puck up in the air
14:07And out of the rink
14:09And it's going straight out of the rink
14:11And it's going to be a penalty
14:12Against Carolina
14:16Carolina 27 minor penalty delay game
14:19Nick Ehlers to the box
14:21Vegas the first power play of game 5
14:23When we come back
14:35The first power play of game 5 will go to the Vegas Golden Knights as Nick Ehlers is in the
14:40box for a delay a game
14:41Ehlers will receive this puck outside the blue line but when he goes back inside the zone
14:46He air mails this over the glass on the far side
14:491 for 12 on the power play
14:51Vegas has still got the 5 forwards
14:53The one thing lacking is they don't shoot the puck near enough
14:57Looks great
14:58They move it around but that puck has to go to the net whether it's from Marner or Borofiev
15:041 for 12 on that power play the only goal from Tomas Hertel which was the first goal of game
15:093
15:10The first of those four in a row in the second period that Carolina matched with four of its own
15:15in the third period
15:16Meanwhile Carolina a great penalty killing team 92.3% of the playoffs
15:22Their opponents are just 5 for 65
15:28Here's Eichel
15:30Out in front
15:32They score
15:33Pavel Dorofiev
15:35The goal
15:36Ending his long drought off a beautiful feed from Eichel
15:40A power play goal and a 1-0 Vegas lead
15:44This is a spectacular entry
15:46You could not draw this up any better if you're Vegas
15:49The puck will come back into the neutral zone
15:52Look at this Chris passing
15:53Eichel, Turtle and Dorofiev
15:57Dorofiev has had nothing to do with this series so far
16:00But this kid leads the Golden Knights in goals this regular season
16:04He's got 10 in the playoffs
16:06Now he's got 11
16:07Look at the play by Eichel
16:09He gets his legs wide
16:10He looks shot and zips it across the crease
16:14Pavel Dorofiev is on the board in the final and it's 1-0 Vegas
16:19His 11th goal of the playoffs for a long time
16:21He's been stuck on 10 for a while
16:23He was leading the playoffs in goals
16:27He had no points in the previous six games
16:30Here they come again
16:31Barbashev had the puck taken away on a nifty play by Sean Walker
16:36Scooped up and moved along by Stahl
16:38He's across the line with help coming
16:40Stahl for Keandre Miller
16:42Bad pass and escapes
16:43And it's turned back by Brett Howden
16:46And Taylor Hall had Miller and he was thinking past the whole way
16:50He could have shot it
16:51Tried to force the pass
16:53And it's Howden
16:57And it's taken back by Miller
17:00The Vegas goal from Dorofiev was on their first shot on goal of the game
17:06He had gone seven straight games without a goal
17:10Six in a row without a point
17:11After leading Vegas in the regular season with 37 goals
17:15Nine more than the next Golden Knight Stone
17:18And he had 20 power play goals
17:20Second in the NHL
17:23It's a power play goal at 6-52 from Eichel and Hurdle
17:27A self-inflicted wound on the penalty
17:29Ehlers shoots it over the glass
17:31But the entry is with speed
17:33And look at this pass from Eichel
17:36He takes Chatfield wide
17:37There's no chance for Busse on this
17:39But it's the speed of entry
17:42That it's the determining factor
17:43Here's Hall
17:44Right when Theodore moves his stick
17:46Over to deny the pass
17:48That's when Hall's gotta shoot it
17:49But he's reading pass
17:51He tries to force it to Miller
17:52And it doesn't even end up with a shot on net
17:56Here's Eichel again for Stone
17:58Two on two across the line
17:59The drop from Marner
18:00His wrister rebound
18:03And it was knocked away
18:04Before Stone could whack it toward the net
18:07Up in the air and down to Dylan Coghlan
18:10Touched in by Marner
18:11Turned back quickly by Slavin
18:13Jarvis Aho Slavin
18:15Back out in front
18:17And well played out in front of the net by Dylan Coghlan
18:23At the line Slavin
18:27At the line Slavin
18:28Svechnikoff lifted the stick of Coghlan
18:29It went past
18:30Bad turnover by Eichel
18:31Put it right on the stick of Aho
18:33But now it's cleared by Jeremy Lozon
18:39Jacob Slavin
18:43Jacob Slavin
18:43For Chatfield
18:45And across the line too far in front of Ehlers
18:49There's three goals in the first four games of the Stanley Cup Final
18:53Dorothea that one's off the glove of Bussie
18:56Couldn't squeeze it
18:57Three behind the net
19:00And picked up by Hurdle
19:02Back of the line
19:03Anderson a blast off the back wall
19:05Bussie doesn't seem to be sure where it is
19:07Now here's Hannafin the defenseman
19:10That hit Chatfield or Sissons
19:11And wound up in the left wing corner
19:14Anderson
19:16Noticeably more aggressive at the offensive end these last couple of games
19:19Hurdle covered his point
19:21Chatfield moved it along
19:23As long as it comes to Stall and back to Chatfield
19:26And now Slavin
19:27Good work by this Vegas line
19:29To pin the Canes in their own end
19:34Ehlers ahead for Blake
19:36And back for Ehlers out in front
19:37And behind Stan Coven
19:39Miller passed up a one-timer
19:41Touched it into the corner
19:43Blake held off by Anderson
19:45Hand up and up the wall
19:46And it carries to Carlson
19:49He moved in for Barbashev
19:51Miller broke it up
19:53Down low Barbashev
19:55And a nice stop by Bussie
19:56Rebound taken behind the net by Howe
19:58And then he lost it
19:59Stan Coven
20:01Walled off Carlson
20:02And it's lofted out by Hall
20:05Snapped back in by Braden McNabb
20:07He's had a magnificent
20:09Stanley Cup Final
20:11With six assists in the first four games
20:14McNabb is plus six
20:16That's best in the Stanley Cup Final
20:20Dillon Coughlin long ahead
20:23Nick down in behind
20:25Gostas Bear there
20:27Alexander Dication
20:28Had it knocked down by Cole Smith
20:30Who anticipated the puck up the wall
20:33Gostas Bear intercepted by Coughlin
20:35These two teams
20:37Turning the puck back in the opposite direction
20:40Very quickly off the takeaways
20:43And they're offside as Carrier
20:45Carrier across the line
20:49After a quick Carolina start
20:51It's the Vegas power play that gets on the board
20:53Pavel Dorofiev
20:54His first of the final
20:56A beauty of a play from Jack Eichel
20:58It's 1-0 Vegas
21:00And at T-Mobile Arena
21:01They get to cheer
21:02The Vegas Golden Knights
21:05Have the early lead in game five
21:07The Stanley Cup Final on ABC
21:09Is presented by Geico
21:11It feels good to have a winning team
21:12It feels good to Geico
21:20Sorry Ray, I have to give you a big introduction first
21:23Oh sorry I missed that, that's my bad Sean
21:25And the sponsor, they like their mentions
21:28Game Drivers
21:29Brought to us by Geico
21:30And by Ray Ferraro
21:31Sorry Geico, we're gonna talk about
21:33Guys that don't get the puck to the net
21:35Svechnikov has to shoot the puck
21:37He does not shoot it
21:38A scoring chance goes awry
21:40Seth Jarvis has a chance to shoot
21:42Now this leads to Chatfield's shot
21:44But it's only one of two that Hart's had to face
21:47This is the one that has to get on the net
21:49The whole 2-on-1 that we saw earlier
21:52Very rarely, Sean, has Carolina passed up shots
21:55And in this series, shots are hard to come by
21:58Against Vegas, really as they are against Carolina
22:01These are chances that have to get on the net
22:04Make Carter Hart
22:05Who's given up four goals in each of the last
22:07Four games of this zero
22:09All four games of the series
22:10Get it on goal
22:11Make them make a save
22:17Vegas scored on its first shot on goal
22:19More than six minutes in on the power play
22:21Now they've had the last six shots on goal in this game
22:25And the last eight shot attempts
22:27As the power play tilted momentum in their direction
22:32Eichel trying to work away from Jankowski
22:34They played against each other in the college hockey national championship game in 2015
22:39Centering pass
22:41Stone a backhand
22:42That wound up behind the net
22:43Then Marner got dumped
22:45By a physical Keiondre Miller out in front of the net
22:49Delayed offside taken down as Eichel and Stone get out of the zone
22:53Keiondre Miller
22:54Had it played in by Eric Robinson
22:58McNabb to Theodore
23:00And up for Stone the 34 year old captain
23:04Has seven goals in these playoffs
23:06Despite the fact that
23:07He missed five games in the middle of the playoffs
23:10With an injury
23:12His goals in four of the six games since he came back
23:15Two in this series
23:16Down low!
23:17They score!
23:18And it's Jordan Stahl again
23:21On the tip in
23:22To tie it at one
23:38Sometimes it's just your time
23:40Stahl beats McNabb out of the corner
23:43The shot pass from Ehlers
23:45Heads up play from Ehlers
23:47It goes off the pad of Carter Hart
23:50Six goals in this Stanley Cup Final for the captain Jordan Stahl
23:54This place erupts
23:56As the captain has done it again
23:59And we're back to square
24:03Well John Tortorella said job one is dealing with Jordan Stahl in front of the goal
24:09They didn't do it that time
24:11His sixth goal of the series
24:15It ties it at one
24:16He has a goal in all five games of the Stanley Cup Final
24:20That matches the longest game goal streak in Cup Final history
24:26Svechnikov shot blocked by Anderson
24:28That had Erasmus hopping up and down
24:32Jordan Stahl is the fifth man in the 108 years of the Stanley Cup Final
24:38To score a goal in five games in a row
24:45Incredible postseason for the captain at age 37
24:49Seems everything he does is a history making event
24:55So often the goal is a result of something you've done beforehand
24:58Stahl will get the finish on McNabb
25:01And he beats him out of the corner just by a stride
25:04As McNabb's getting himself back to the net
25:07Stahl's there, stick down, tip in the Ehler pass
25:10And this is just outside the arena here though
25:14Celebration as it's now 1-1
25:16This final series continues to be exceptional
25:22And this is the first of the five games did not begin with one team ahead 2-0
25:27We're tied at one
25:31Von Stahl's goal
25:34Just three shots on goal for Carolina
25:37Here's Robinson sending it behind the cage
25:40Carrier working hard to win the pocket
25:43He did help keep it alive for the Canes
25:46Robinson backed it back
25:47The Keishan kept it in
25:48Robinson fired right on that
25:51Gostas bear hoping for a tip
25:53Yeah, Jankowski at the far post
25:56It's cleared out to Smith and then broken up by Robinson
26:05Stahl is the first player to score in five straight games in a Stanley Cup Final since 1973
26:12When Yvonne Cornway, the great Montreal Canadian, did it against Chicago
26:17Taylor Hall's shot looked like it glanced on hard off the glass and out of the zone
26:23Well, the roadrunner, one of my favorites growing up, man, could that guy skate?
26:27He sure could
26:29Here's Eichel out in front
26:31Marner, that one did not get through to the net
26:33Here's Hannaf in a drive
26:35That one got blocked, I believe by Stan Colvin
26:37He was surrounded by a couple of other black shirts
26:41Sean, that's it's stone Marner and Eichel out more and more on a regular basis
26:46This is something Carolina will have to contend with
26:49Be sharp on
26:49Good way to try to get Eichel going
26:52If you put a little more firepower on them
26:54Dorofiev the backhand stopped by Busse
26:57That scaled around the glass and taken off by Coghlan
27:015.50 to go on another entertaining period
27:04In this Stanley Cup Final
27:10Dorofiev
27:12Back for Coghlan
27:13And the rebound knocked away
27:15Walker in the right spot for Carolina
27:18Good work on the forecheck
27:20Carlsen
27:21Takes another hit from Walker
27:23Then Howden slams in to Walker
27:26Seth Jarvis to Nikolai Ehlers
27:28The 30 year old from Denmark
27:30Lobbed it in and Hart will hang on
27:39A 1-0 lead early, the Vegas power play goal was Pavel Dorofiev
27:44But the captain Jordan Stahl from Nikolai Ehlers
27:48Leveled this game at 1, 15 minutes into game 5
28:08During the first of doing something they've dreamt about their entire lifetime
28:18The silver trophy to the Golden Knights
28:21Devastation
28:23Just the heartbreak for the players
28:30Ladies and gentlemen
28:32The Stanley Cup
28:40Welcome back to Raleigh here with Rod Brindamore
28:43What went in the decision to start Brandon Busse again?
28:45Oh wow, he had a great game
28:46And uh, you know, that's about it
28:49And we've been, like I said all along, we were gonna
28:51We thought we'd have to use both guys
28:52And you know, he earned a start again
28:54So Kachekov is backing up, why not Freddie Anderson?
28:57Yeah, same, same reasoning
28:58We don't need a guy that we might want to use later
29:01Just give him as much time off
29:02He seems to respond better with long rest
29:04Appreciate it
29:05All right, thank you
29:09Well, this Busse again
29:10And Anderson not even dressed
29:13Which is very interesting
29:15I mean, you understand, Ray, when they had him not start
29:18Anderson for the first time in these playoffs
29:20In game 4, he had started every game
29:23At age 36
29:24But, you know, he's had several days of rest
29:26Now you would think he'd at least be the backup
29:28Should they need to replace Busse?
29:30It's Kachekov who hasn't played an NHL game since December
29:34It is curious
29:36It is curious
29:38There are many wondering around the Stanley Cup Final
29:41If there's something wrong with Freddie Anderson
29:44And they just don't want to disclose it
29:49I'm sure there'll be more investigation into that after this game
29:53Now that it's two games in a row that he hasn't even dressed
29:55Icing the call against Vegas
29:59Come on boys
30:00The quest is nearing its conclusion
30:02Go behind the scenes for every round of the Stanley Cup playoffs
30:06These experiences helps our game every single night
30:08From round one to the Stanley Cup Final
30:11Quest for the Stanley Cup
30:12Only on NHL YouTube
30:25Ajo's line out against the fourth line
30:27Maybe they can get the jump
30:28Create something here
30:29Starts with this draw of course
30:33Free puck off the draw to the wall
30:37Svechnikoff shoved by Coghlan
30:38Coghlan wound up with the puck
30:40Good pitch by Slavin
30:42Cattel Kolasar
30:44This is the fourth line on for John Tortorella
30:47And it looks like it's the only one
30:48That he has kept intact
30:50He's jumbled up
30:51The top three lines from the combinations we've seen
30:54Through the first four games of the Stanley Cup Final
30:59Hurdle lofted it in
31:00He's out with Sissons
31:02And Barbashev
31:05Svechnikoff the entry
31:06Hard around
31:07Hoping Martin look gets there first
31:09And he did
31:09Hannafin anticipated
31:11Moved him along for Hurdle
31:13Bouncing puck
31:14Corraled by Chatfield
31:15Nearing four minutes to go
31:17In the first period
31:19Tied at one
31:20Chatfield a drive
31:21That did not get past the middle of the slot
31:24Barbashev to the line
31:26And it's wedged in by Hurdle
31:29That one took a bite
31:30The Chatfield shot out of Martin
31:32He's grimacing
31:34Quite a bit as he comes back to the bench
31:36He's fine
31:36Still doesn't mean it feels very good
31:38No
31:40Inadvertently struck by his own teammate
31:43Here's Theodore back behind
31:44And McNabb
31:47They move past three four checkers
31:49It's three on two for the moment for Vegas
31:51Eichel again with Marner and Stone
31:53That's the new line tonight
31:55They lost it up high and then Theodore broke up the rush in the other direction
32:00The stall goal his eighth of the playoffs
32:03His series leading sixth
32:05Of this Stanley Cup final from Ehlers and Jarvis at 11 46
32:12And at the Dorofiev scored a power play goal to start the scoring for Vegas
32:21Blake lobbed it in
32:26Theodore up the wall Dorofiev advanced it to Howden
32:29Now Carlson with some speed
32:31His shot through Goss despair
32:34Turned aside very confidently
32:36By Bussie the 27 year old
32:39From Long Island who's 6'4
32:41About 220 pounds
32:43Dorofiev couldn't tip the
32:45Shot pass
32:47Anderson
32:48Avoided Goss despair but went down nonetheless
32:51As he couldn't keep his balance
32:53Here's Blake with Hall
32:57Taylor Hall
32:58It's handled by Hart
32:59They dropped it down
33:02Noah Hannafin
33:05Like Eichel a member of Team USA
33:08John Tortorella wondering as some are
33:11The wear and tear of these players
33:14In this series who played in the Olympics
33:17Pressure of that three weeks over in Milan
33:20And now
33:21The incredible intensity of the Stanley Cup playoffs
33:26And particularly the final
33:30The Kishin shoots it in from center ice under two minutes to go in the first period
33:36Toadlin
33:37Robinson looked like he was going to head off
33:39Then saw the puck coming
33:40At least he was aware of it
33:43And it's Aho
33:45For Miller
33:46Into the left wing corner
33:49Theodore there
33:52And it comes back to Theodore
33:55Svechnikoff
33:56Pestering him
34:00At the red line Eichel
34:02The advance got stopped by Martin Nook
34:06Svechnikoff again
34:07Aho heads to the net
34:09McNabb fell down on defense but got back up
34:12Indirect pass for Stone
34:14Into the middle for Eichel
34:16And his shot missed the short side
34:20Hannafin did not keep it in
34:27Well he mentioned Yvonne Cornway the last to score
34:31In five straight Stanley Cup final games
34:33The other three to do it
34:36Bellevue Richard
34:37I mean these are some of the great players of all time
34:39And Ray remembers Cyclone Taylor from their head to head battles back in
34:431918 when Cyclone started for the Vancouver
34:47Millionaires
34:48Those other three gentlemen like Stahl did it in the first five games of a Stanley Cup final
34:53And just so you know the Junior A Championship in British Columbia
34:57The Cyclone Taylor Cup
34:59There you go
35:00Did you participate in that at one time?
35:03Uh no
35:03No we weren't good enough to get in
35:06For one of the very few times in your career
35:09Hockey or baseball
35:10Baseball had a better chance back then
35:13There's Carlson
35:14Rimming it
35:15Posse has a go off his stick
35:20Strange bounce off the wall
35:22Gloved down by Hannafin
35:24And as Marner plays it its whistle for a hand pass
35:27With thirty three point four to go in the first period tied at one
35:31We invite you to shop the largest selection of Stanley Cup final apparel at NHL shop
35:36Take advantage of today's special offer on your favorite teams and brands only at NHL shop
35:41dot com
35:42Really interesting here with thirty seconds left in the period both teams
35:47Put out some semblance of their fourth lines
35:50It's almost like both teams are kind of satisfied where this game is and they just want to get this
35:54into the intermission
35:59The second period that has been dominated throughout this series by Vegas
36:06That was a big focus for Rob Brindamore players all talked about at the media availability today they must be
36:12better in the second period they've been outscored by the Golden Knights nine to one in period two through the
36:17first four games
36:19Icing the call
36:20So now Carolina will have to defend against the Eichel and Marner
36:25Group here's some physicality early on
36:27The Eichel one early on Stahl set the toe
36:29Walker lights up
36:31Howden and it's been shift after shift
36:34Players are not letting anyone off the hook
36:37The finish is there
36:38The opportunity for a check you finish it through
36:42And that's another part of Stahl's game
36:44He came into tonight with seventy nine hits in the playoffs second on their team behind only will carry a
36:51He has done it all
36:54Final six seconds and that's directly out of the rink
36:58And for the second time in this first period Carolina
37:02Will be penalized for delay a game healers did it earlier now it's Keandre Miller
37:08Man I feel I feel badly for these players when they do this because
37:15It's a mistake that they don't have to make
37:17Eelers ends up air mailing one, you know, 25 rolls over the glass
37:21He's trying to shoot it away
37:23All is Miller has to do there's under ten seconds left in the period watch where the puck is
37:27Just backhanded soft into the corner everybody else is on this side of the ice the periods dead
37:33Now Vegas gets their second power play
37:36Their goal is a Dorofiev power play goal earlier in the period
37:39If they can win the faceoff they could get a shot attempt on
37:42Hurdle's a very good faceoff man
37:45The Canes clear Martin up
37:47Line up fired at the net
37:48Hard handled with ease and that's the end of the first period
37:52Dorofiev got it started on the power play from Eichel and Hurdle
37:56Stahl tied it from Eelers and Jarvis
37:59One one after one here Steve
38:01Thank you Sean another highly entertaining period in this Stanley Cup Final
38:05What else is new in the Vegas Golden Knights
38:07We'll have a power play of a minute 55 to start the action in period number 2
38:13As always I'm with Mark Messier, P.K. Subban and P.K.'s hat
38:16Listen you caught a lot of heat for Mitch Marner going off on him
38:20And loving up on Marner, Mitchie this
38:22Give me some Jordan Stahl love here too, unbelievable series
38:26Unbelievable series for Jordan Stahl
38:28I mean you talk about leadership, he's got to see on his jersey for a reason
38:31I think that when things are down, the chips were down for Carolina
38:36Jordan Stahl's grabbed the bull by the horns, he's doing it now
38:38And like you said earlier on in the series, Mets offensively as well
38:42He scores every goal
38:43He scores every goal
38:45What a performance, unbelievable
38:47For me, it's the will to win by both teams
38:49At this point in the series now, I don't see any resignation
38:52Any doubt on either team
38:54And it's one of the reasons why we're having such a great series
38:57Another great period of hockey
38:59But again, a fundamental breakdown that led to both goals
39:02Big boy hockey for Jordan Stahl though
39:05My goodness, doing everything on the ice
39:07That's what we like to see
39:07And again, we knew we could check
39:09We knew we could play defensive hockey, face-offs
39:12But he had two goals in the playoffs before the final
39:15He has six goals through the first five games of this Stanley Cup Final
39:20This is the Expedia first intermission report
39:24I'm Jordan Stahl, and you're watching the Stanley Cup Final
39:32This is the Stanley Cup Final on ABC presented by Geico
39:36Game 5 from Raleigh, North Carolina
39:38The series tied at two wins apiece
39:41And this game tied at one apiece
39:44After one
39:45Time for winning ingredients
39:47Brought to you by Chipotle and Ray Ferraro
39:49Two goals in the first period
39:51We're going to look at them both
39:52Nick Ehlers airmails this thing way over the glass
39:54It leads to the Vegas power play
39:56Their second power play goal of the series
39:58Beautiful pass from Michael DiDorofiev
40:01His first of this final series
40:03And then the tying goal, of course it's Jordan Stahl
40:06Five games in a row, Stahl's on the board
40:08He finishes the check on the four, check on McNabb
40:11Beats him to the front of the net
40:13Tips in the Ehlers shot
40:15A 1-1 period and both teams said
40:17Maybe this might be the game where the game is tighter
40:20It was a pretty tight first period
40:22It was indeed and there'll be another Vegas power play
40:26For another puck out of the rink against Carolina
40:28Vegas didn't score in the last game, Ray
40:30And they'd struggled in this series on the power play
40:32But the power play looked better
40:34In the last game
40:36And it was a very good power play the first time out tonight
40:39Yeah, in the last game they were in zone and they had a
40:41Maybe a little bit more direct focus on the power play
40:45Shoot it, get to the net, try and create that way
40:48This power play goal in the first period was a textbook entry
40:52And a beautiful finish by Dorofiev
40:55Jack Eichel as is usually the case a factor even when he does not score goals
41:00He's on the power play to start the period
41:04It still has a minute 45 to go again
41:06It's the five forward power play for John Tortorella
41:10Martyr for Eichel
41:11Usually handles the entry they're onside
41:14And that pass just a little bit too far in front of hurdle
41:17From Stone
41:19And on this fresh ice it shot the length of the ice
41:23By Slavin
41:27Martyr with some speed trying to dodge Aho
41:30Across the line
41:32Slides it for a hurdle
41:33He's pressured by Chatfield
41:35That's a hallmark of the
41:37Canes penalty kill
41:38They like to pressure all over
41:40Martyr's shot deflected wide
41:42With good traffic out in front
41:44The long pass didn't connect with Aho
41:46But it was sent the length of the ice to kill more time by Slavin
41:49Who goes off
41:50Even though that wasn't a big shot by Martyr
41:52It's a quick little wrister
41:54Danger follows
41:56Stone
41:58Dangerous pass
42:00Gathered in by Martyr
42:02For Stone quickly off for Eichel
42:05And a good job by Busse to hold the post
42:09Martyr kept it in
42:11Hurdle
42:12Eichel
42:12A tough angle shot
42:14Wines up with Dorfeeb
42:16Spinning away from Aho
42:1730 seconds on the Vegas power play
42:20Trying to break a 1-1 tie early in the second period
42:23Eichel cross eyes a little too hard for Dorfeeb
42:26Who scored the power play goal in the first
42:29Stone
42:3018 on the power play
42:33Martyr
42:35Down low
42:35Stone
42:37Out in front
42:38Hurdle
42:38And a sliding defensive play made by Aho
42:42They can't clear
42:435 on the power play
42:45Martyr touched it off Dorfeeb's shot
42:48Off the back glass
42:50Eichel sends it toward the net
42:52That deflected off Aho into the corner
42:54And Keandre Miller is out of the penalty box
42:56Due to the light of the sellout crowd
42:59Backhanded out in front
43:00And Stone didn't get good one on it
43:03Excellent pressure
43:04Many chances on that power play for Vegas
43:06But they did not get the go-ahead tally
43:12Many of the fans on their feet now here in Raleigh
43:16Some still making their way back from the concession stands
43:21Noah Hannafin
43:23Played back in
43:24Now it's William Carlson
43:26Had trouble with the puck at the line
43:28It got played ahead by Chatfield
43:30Here's Stan Coven
43:31The handoff
43:32Taylor Hall
43:32And a stop by Carter Hart
43:34Free puck played to the wall by Carlson
43:37Sent around by Chatfield
43:39Onto the stick of Stan Coven
43:41For Hall
43:42And then picked off by Barbashev
43:44Tried to get it to Hound
43:46And it got gloved down by Chatfield for a hand pass
43:49Here's Emily Kaplan
43:51Well the Golden Knights one advantage into this series was their size
43:54But they found Jordan Stahl to be physical and very difficult to move
43:58His goal tonight was on a broken play
44:00But the Vegas coaching staff is telling their players to try to play Stahl hard
44:04And try to get under his stick
44:06That's the only way they feel like they can throw him off right now
44:09Well he took that early hit for Michael
44:12And while he was sour
44:13I mean he was five feet in front of me
44:15He didn't react
44:15He didn't really make much of a fuss about it
44:18And Stahl has just had a tremendous series of course
44:22But the focus for Vegas has to be to get the body on him
44:27To make him work for his ice
44:30Aside from being a big physical guy himself
44:33He's 37 years old
44:34Like if you can wear a guy down eventually
44:36But Stahl has just had the answer game after game after game
44:40What a final series he's had
44:446'4", 220 pounds
44:47Rock solid
44:47Playing in his 180th career playoff game tonight
44:51Grew up playing with his brothers on outdoor rinks in Thunder Bay, Ontario
44:57Dreaming about being Wayne Gretzky
45:00Or Mario Lemieux
45:02Now he is starring like them
45:03On the game's biggest stage
45:07Another stop by Bussi on Dowd
45:09Then Coghlan fired toward the net
45:11That didn't get
45:13A rebound was cleared away by the Canes
45:16Coghlan with Robinson the forward checker
45:20Here's Stahl with help
45:21Stahl out in front
45:23And it did not connect with Ehlers
45:27Stahl's five game goal streak is not only history making in the Stanley Cup Final
45:31It's the longest of his career
45:33It matches the longest he's ever had
45:36In 20 years in the league
45:38Regular season
45:39Four playoffs
45:40Here's Ehlers into the slot
45:42Shot it wide
45:43Hard off the back wall
45:44And skated away by Marder
45:48And the only other five game goal streak for
45:50For Jordan Stahl was as a 18 year old
45:54In 2007 for Pittsburgh
45:57Theodore shot
45:58Locked and played away by Slavin
46:00He handed it right back to Marder
46:03More than four minutes played second period
46:051-1 the score
46:07Eichel into the four check
46:10He's been a noticeable presence from the start
46:14Ehlers went down on his knees and couldn't play the puck
46:17Chatfield lobbed it in
46:21Icing
46:25Come on boys
46:26The quest is nearing its conclusion
46:28Go behind the scenes for every round of the Stanley Cup playoffs
46:32These experiences helps our game every single night
46:35From round one to the Stanley Cup Final
46:37Quest for the Stanley Cup
46:39Only on NHL YouTube
46:42Time for the SAP Coaching Insights app
46:46These numbers powered by it
46:48Jack Eichel now with the assist tonight
46:50Has eleven assists in ten Stanley Cup Final games
46:54He has not yet scored a goal
46:55In the two cup finals in which he has played
46:59And that is the most points of any player in Stanley Cup Final history
47:03Without a goal
47:10Chris Kunitz, Tyler Sagan, Pat Stapleton all had ten assists
47:14Without a goal
47:16They've all played in many more games
47:18In a cup final then has Eichel
47:21Gonna happen for Jack sooner or later
47:27Knocked ahead by Carlson
47:29And shot in by Martin up more than five minutes played now in the second period
47:35This period scoreless
47:37Vegas is outscored
47:39Carolina nine to one
47:42In the second periods of the first four games
47:45Barberchev tried to get it through to Carlson
47:47It got deflected
47:48And they're offside
47:55Carlson and Fetchnikoff
47:57It's changing shoves

48:09The crowd is yours
48:10Well the crowd rather is yours
48:12The crowd is Carolina's
48:14They're making noise as usual
48:16Just right here
48:17Just right here we are 26 minutes in
48:19And they've got just six shots on goal
48:22A really solid road game so far
48:24For Vegas
48:26And they're having a discussion here Sean to see where this face-off should be
48:32And it's gonna be outside not an icing call
48:34It'll be an offside call
48:36So the draws outside the Vegas blue line
48:50There's that Stan Goldberg line they're the line that most consistently has spent zone time in this series for Carolina
48:57Stan Collins done a good job on draws
48:59Ending tonight 51%
49:01Well above his 43 in the regular season
49:03He's the only right-handed face-off man they have
49:05Who takes draws regularly
49:08Here's Jack Field
49:09He got rattled into the wall by Barbashev
49:12And in his record-setting hit total
49:15And into tonight with 101 in the playoffs
49:17The franchise record in a single postseason
49:21McNabb Theodore spun along
49:23Stan Colvin got a stick on it
49:26And now Theodore his defense partner McNabb got knocked down
49:29And is coming into the corner
49:32He cross-checks down the man who hit him
49:34That was behind Chris Rooney
49:36He didn't see it
49:36And whoever he hit that's out of our view from our vantage point
49:41Is still down it's Taylor Hall
49:44They got cross-checked in the back
49:47By McNabb
49:48But it was behind Chris Drury
49:50Chris Rooney and Chris Drury for that matter
49:55And no penalty on the play
49:57Now the officials have a chat
49:59They don't see anything and there's no penalty on the play
50:02As Hall would run into McNabb first
50:05McNabb gives him one on the way out
50:11And here's the second one
50:13This is the one that stings as McNabb gets away with one
50:16The puck's nowhere near him
50:21Welcome back to Raleigh where Brandon Bussey gets his second straight start
50:25Growing up in Long Island he was cut from quite a few elite teams
50:29In the North American Hockey League
50:31His coach once called him the laughing stock of a league
50:34He was undrafted claimed on waivers by the Canes
50:37And so when he found out that he was gonna start game four
50:39He told people close to him
50:41I'm dialed
50:42I've been cast aside so many times in my life
50:44I'm not scared of failure
50:47Did a great job when he came in
50:48Didn't he?
50:49A 4-0 deficit
50:51They get the double overtime
50:52He gives up a goofy one that
50:55Beats him, he gets the win in game four
50:57Here we are in game five
50:58Here come the Kings
50:59And a good chance for Agostas Baird
51:01Stopped by Carter Hart
51:04Yeah, he is a poised young man
51:06Even though he does not have a lot of
51:08NHL experience
51:09This was his first season in the NHL at age 27
51:14You hear him speak
51:15He's pretty loose and funny character
51:17Also very emotional after the win
51:20In game four
51:22His parents hurried from their home in New York
51:24To watch his first playoff start
51:26And when he was asked on Canadian TV after the game about his parents
51:30They showed him some video of his parents celebrating his performance
51:33He got noticeably choked up in a very touching moment
51:40Lesson to be learned
51:41Persevere more than a hundred games in the AHL for Busy
51:45Never got a chance at the NHL level in Boston behind
51:49Outstanding goalies like Jeremy Swayman and Linus Omar
51:53Down to 1235 to go second period nearly halfway through game five
51:59Series tied at two ends of pace this game tied at one
52:02Dorofiev on the power play in the first period
52:04And then Stahl tied it
52:06With his sixth goal of the Stanley Cup final in five games
52:12Jarvis was not to the red line
52:14And icing is the call against the Hurricanes
52:18You know Busy will have an offensive zone face off to deal with
52:23He was busier the two goalies in the first period
52:25The power play goalie gave up but a couple of good stops Dorofiev and Carlsen in particular
52:32He's a little bit of an unorthodox goalie
52:34Really athletic, he's big
52:36He will move more than most goaltenders when he's on
52:40His quickness gets him across the net
52:42And really helps him to stop the puck
52:44Some guys are positional, he's more athletic
52:50He was waived by Florida right before the season started
52:53They had picked him up from Boston
52:57And Carolina decided to sign him really as insurance
53:02Behind Freddie Anderson and Pyotr Kochetkov
53:06Plus he got a chance very early in the season
53:08In a road game at San Jose
53:11Rod Brindamore has said there's probably more pressure on him
53:14In that game than there was in these playoffs
53:16Because if he didn't succeed in game one in the NHL
53:19He might not have gotten another chance
53:20Now he's in the playoff net with his family on hand
53:27I wonder if goalie parents really enjoy the game
53:30They always look so stressed
53:32They enjoyed game four when it was over
53:34When it's over short
53:35And it's not a playoff win
53:38But Brandon was emotional in part because his parents
53:41Like so many hockey parents a huge part of his hockey life and career
53:48Played ahead by Carlsen Dorfee
53:50After it walled off by Keiondre Miller then Carlsen there with Walker
53:55And it's moved along by Keiondre Miller
53:59Again the high flip that's worked well for both teams throughout these playoffs
54:02But that one made it offside
54:08Funny for a series that has had so many goals 33 coming into tonight
54:12This is more of the type of game I thought the series would be like
54:17And just hasn't been both coaches said yeah, maybe
54:20One of these games will be tight will be tight checking you just see 16 shots almost halfway through in
54:26total
54:27There's no real flow to it
54:29And where the first four games have been pass and room and chances this game has none of it
54:34But it's been a pretty choppy game five
54:38And if you're Vegas and your goalie hasn't been as good of late Carter Hart
54:43One way to help solve that problem is to limit the shots on goal
54:46And they've done that very nicely
54:48Now seven and that was a harmless flip from outside the line
54:52They're looking at Carlsen on the bench
54:57Looks like a left wrist hand forearm issue
55:03He's sure done a great job for them and looks like he's okay here
55:07Well, actually he doesn't
55:08This is one of the only arenas in the NHL
55:12That does not have access to the bench
55:14To the locker room in the visitors room
55:16So that's where Carlsen skated across the ice
55:19And now has gone down the tunnel
55:21The doctors will look at him in the Vegas locker room
55:24But that's a huge loss now
55:26And John Tortorello is going to have to coach around the absence of William Carlsen
55:32Well, as you said Ray Taylor Hall said this morning
55:35He and Svechnikoff both chuckled at the media availability when asked about all the goals in the series
55:41Nobody really expected it
55:42So well sooner or later it's probably going to be a 2-1 game or a 3-2 game
55:47Who knows this might be
55:48But these games have exploded in a hurry through the first four
55:54It felt, didn't it, at the beginning like this is what the series was going to be
55:58And get it for four games, it was sheer fun
56:03Both teams defend so well
56:07Here's Hall
56:08Head mans for Stan Colvin
56:10Sends it right in on Hart who scoops it up
56:12Then Lausanne took down Stan Colvin
56:16And he's going to be penalized
56:19I believe the signal from Wes McCauley was a cross check
56:24And it was needless because it was after Hart had
56:29Possessed the puck and gotten the whistle
56:33Carolina's got to make sure they don't get tied up at all in any of this nonsense
56:37They've got their first power play coming
56:39As Stan Colvin goes towards the net
56:41And the much stronger Lausanne
56:43Basically picks him up and tosses him onto the ground
56:46The Carolina power play
56:48That has been on fire all of a sudden
56:51Kind of out of nowhere
56:52Five goals, four goals rather in the last three games
56:56And they'll get a chance on the power play to break this 1-1 tie
57:01You gotta admire Stan Colvin
57:03He's feisty at 5'8", 165 pounds
57:06But I don't think he wants a part of Colasar
57:09With whom he's barking
57:11Oh no, you're on
57:12But you are safe as long as there's one of those striped Sheridan fellas in the middle
57:17If you always feel it
57:19What a chance here for Carolina
57:21This power play
57:23Is a pretty simplistic one
57:25If Stahl wins the draw
57:28He stays on the ice and goes to the front of the net
57:30If he loses it he comes off the ice
57:32And Ehlers goes on
57:34But a face-off win
57:36They're in the zone
57:37And a quick shot
57:38Will probably do them well here
57:41Four for eleven in the series
57:43Four for nine over the last three games
57:47Six for their last 22 on the power play over the last six
57:51With at least one power play goal in the last three and five of the last six
57:55After they started at the playoffs an astonishing five for 45
58:00Through eleven games
58:01Theodore to clear
58:02Right off the face-off
58:03There goes Stahl
58:05He's gone and here comes Ehlers onto the ice
58:07For the ninth
58:09For the ninth
58:10For the ninth
58:11Two of them
58:13Jarvis and now Ehlers one of the great skaters in the league
58:17Svechnikoff for Ehlers
58:19He avoided a hit from McNabb
58:22Ajo
58:23Trying to break out of a scoring drought
58:27Gostespierre
58:27Ajo lets it fly
58:29It hit McNabb
58:31Bouncing puck
58:31The clear hit Ajo
58:33McNabb tries again
58:35Kept in by Ajo and Gostespierre
58:38A minute twenty on the Carolina power play
58:41In a one-one game nearly midway through
58:43Gostespierre one-timer by Jarvis
58:45And it is smothered by Carter Hart
58:52All that chaos starts with one quick shot
58:55The Ajo one-timer is blocked by McNabb
58:58And now it's a rugby scrum in front of the net
59:01Everybody's fighting for position
59:02Hart gets bumped
59:04There's a secondary shot
59:05It's cleared away
59:06Before it leads to Seth Jarvis'
