00:00МУЗЫКАЛЬНАЯ ЗАСТАВКА
00:40Grand Prix Sunday at Monaco and the F2 feature race,
00:45the one they all want to win.
00:47It would be Rafa Kamara leading us away from pole position
00:50with Nikola Solloff alongside on the front row.
00:54Heading through the first corner, a clean start for the leaders.
00:57It would all come down to strategy and who could get the tyres
01:01up to speed the quickest on return to the circuit.
01:05Rafa Kamara, 12 seconds he had over Nikola Solloff,
01:08but then next lap straight on at turn one,
01:11Nikola Solloff inherited the lead.
01:13He's becoming the master of Monaco.
01:15Another win this time in Formula 2.
01:19Well, welcome, everyone, to round five of the season.
01:22This is our venue for pre-season testing in Formula 2,
01:26and we are back racing for the first double header of the season.
01:32This is the layout for the circuits for what is going to be
01:37a 26-lap sprint race, 37 laps of feature,
01:41one that drivers have a lot of experience on,
01:43not just from Formula 2 and Formula 3,
01:45but from the junior categories as well.
01:48We've got two DRS zones in total.
01:51Arvid Lindblad taking the win for Spanish team Campos Racing
01:54here last year from pole position.
01:58In terms of the tyres, it will be,
02:00and the soft and the hard compound once again,
02:04as we had last season.
02:06I just want to start by saying a huge thanks
02:10to Alex Brundle and Alice Powell
02:13for stepping into the commentary roles last week.
02:17Very nice to hear Alex Brundle taking on the lead.
02:20Sounded right at home, didn't he?
02:21And thank you to everyone around the paddock
02:24for your support last weekend.
02:27Likewise to Kai Buccini for stepping into the Formula 3 commentary roles.
02:32Back with you this weekend,
02:34and as Alex Brundle is off at the 24-hour Le Mans
02:37where many of the Formula 2 graduates are,
02:39it's a welcome back to the Formula 2 commentary box for Dias Fryer.
02:42Chris, I'm so excited to be on Formula 2 once again.
02:46Barcelona always produces some great racing.
02:48The long DRS zone down towards Turn 1,
02:51the other DRS zone towards Turn 10.
02:53A circuit where the drivers know the circuit,
02:55the track layout very well.
02:57It's on pretty much all of the other junior single-seated categories
03:01that are based in Europe and around the world.
03:03It's a circuit that we go testing out a lot officially in Formula 2,
03:06but also teams and drivers will come here in other cars
03:10to get their eye in and get themselves prepared for the seasons.
03:13So a well-known stomping ground,
03:16a place where the drivers are looking for perfection,
03:18not just adapting to what was in front of them
03:21as they were just a week ago at Monaco,
03:23and an opportunity for the drivers to get into the season proper
03:27and maybe bounce back from a bad weekend
03:28or consolidate a good weekend last time out.
03:30But a completely different challenge as well to Monaco just one week ago.
03:35Slow speed, tight corners, bumpy street circuit here.
03:38Medium high-speed corners and almost all the way around this 4.6km lap.
03:45Lots of undulation change, subtle camber changes,
03:47and as we mentioned, those DRS zones,
03:50so big overtaking opportunities too.
03:53Looking forward to it,
03:54hopefully another tip-top weekend of Formula 2 racing ahead.
03:57Absolutely.
03:57And one that provided plenty of drama, didn't it?
04:00Let's talk a little bit about that first.
04:02We saw Rafa Kamara coming back out onto the circuit.
04:06One thing that a lot of the drivers struggled with last weekend
04:09and have historically struggled with
04:11is getting tyre temperature around Monaco,
04:14coming out on cold tyres onto that street circuit.
04:17And Rafa Kamara found himself under pressure
04:19from Nikola Solov running wide at the first corner.
04:24Well, this season is the 10th season of FIA Formula 2.
04:30Half the current grid on Formula 1 have come via this championship,
04:35and that wouldn't be possible without all the staff that helped.
04:39And yesterday we had a celebration for the 50 staff members
04:42who have been with us right from the very start.
04:45Here's CEO of F2 and F3, Bruno Michel, to tell you more.
04:53It's more seeing these 50 people that really the 10 seasons
04:57that I find really, really nice.
04:58You know, it's all these people that have been with us for so long
05:01and, you know, trusting us
05:03and showing a lot of dedication and loyalty to the championship.
05:08And I think it's great to see all of them
05:11and to see all of them present.
05:14Ten years, yeah, ten years is a good achievement.
05:17But at the end of the day, you know,
05:19what's important is what we've accomplished in those ten years
05:22and all these drivers that went through our system
05:26and going to Formula 1, because that's what we're here for
05:29and doing a great job.
05:31So we're very proud of that, yeah, definitely.
05:36Good to hear from Bruno Michel there.
05:39Piers, you know from being in many racing paddocks,
05:42there is a lot of togetherness, isn't there,
05:45between all the staff members, whatever team you are competing for.
05:49And for these teams to have been involved
05:52and all these staff members to have been involved for now 10 seasons,
05:56that has played a huge part in the careers
05:59of many successful Formula 1 drivers and Formula 1 world champions.
06:04Absolutely.
06:05We've seen more and more drivers move up, aren't we,
06:08into Formula 1 and take victories and titles.
06:12And also, let's not forget that Formula 1 is the goal for all of these drivers,
06:15but it's not just Formula 1, is it?
06:17We've got drivers and teammates, you know, all the mechanics,
06:23the engineers have moved up to Formula 1.
06:25There's everyone involved in FIA Formula 3 and Formula 2.
06:28So, either stick around because it's a great place to be
06:30or go on to other amazing things.
06:33I mean, we've got over 10 drivers racing this weekend in the Le Mans 24 Hour
06:38who have been behind the wheel of an FIA F3 or F2 car,
06:41let alone all the team members that are, you know, potentially there as well
06:44and also still in this paddock.
06:46And it's an amazing grid.
06:49And you mentioned, Chris, it is a bit of a travelling circus, really, in motorsport.
06:54We go around the world now in FIA Formula 2.
06:57We've, of course, been on the North American continent
06:59as well as Europe and Asia and Australasia as well.
07:02So, it's incredible the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes
07:06to go racing, provide the entertainment and provide careers for so many people.
07:10And long may it continue.
07:12Absolutely that.
07:13And one team that has very much been part of it from the start is Campos Racing.
07:18And they took their first clean sweep of victories on a Formula 2 weekend at Monaco.
07:24And here's what team principal Adrian Campos had to say.
07:28Very confident.
07:30Obviously, we are feeling very confident.
07:31We know the pace is there.
07:33It's been there all year.
07:35And we just had to put it all together.
07:38And that's what we did in Monaco.
07:39We know that it's going to be very difficult to repeat the results that we had in Monaco.
07:43But we will do our best here in the home race.
07:47Campos Racing taking both wins.
07:51Noel Leon winning the sprint race.
07:53Nicholas Solov winning the feature race as well.
07:56Well, we were talking about in Formula 3 practice, Piers, how Campos Racing are becoming a team to beat.
08:03They are doing the same thing in Formula 2, aren't they?
08:06They're doing it across multiple categories, Campos Racing.
08:10Is it a coincidence that they're also very good at Circuit Catalonia as well, Barcelona?
08:16Because last year, feature race won Arvid Lindblad Campos Racing.
08:20So it's a happy hunting ground for the Spanish team.
08:23And as we've alluded to before, Chris, we go to a new venue later on this year, also in Spain
08:29at Madrid.
08:29So looking forward to that one for our season closer.
08:32I'm sure the Campos team will be quite enjoying the fact they don't have to travel very far as well.
08:37We've already got an investigation.
08:39He's not even had any laps on circuit yet.
08:41So that's impressive.
08:43Unfortunately, Belinsky, I think that will just be a rep for a mind.
08:46It will just be a procedural thing there.
08:48But Belinsky was a driver seeing as he's come off on screen.
08:50Had a good weekend last weekend.
08:52He's not had maybe the start to the season where he would have liked.
08:55A driver that's moved up from Formula 3 and last weekend showed good pace.
09:01First podium for the Polish fans with Roman Belinsky starting on the front row.
09:06And there he is, Roman Belinsky.
09:09Talk us through a little bit about what's going on here then, Peter.
09:12This is a real nice insight.
09:13Often we don't get to see the amount of mental work that goes on with these drivers.
09:17Full lap visualisation going on here.
09:20So flat out, looks like he's going through turn three now.
09:22We're going to break in a second, down two gears, I reckon, towards turn four.
09:25One, two.
09:26There you go.
09:26Turn in.
09:27So, you know, run through turn four and five.
09:30Downhill, pulling up the gears.
09:32And all of this is helpful.
09:33It looks a little silly now, you know, sitting in the garage.
09:36But it means that because we've got so little track time in terms of laps going round and round the
09:41circuit, laps you do on your head do actually have value.
09:44Absolutely.
09:45Well, we were just talking about Roman Belinsky's podium at Monaco.
09:48Let's hear what he had to say coming into the weekend about yourself.
09:53Yeah, fantastic.
09:54You know, to finally get the first podium means a lot to myself and the team.
09:59We've worked so hard for, you know, moments like that.
10:02And as you know, motorsport, those moments don't come all the time.
10:05So you definitely have to enjoy it.
10:07But, you know, we're back and we're ready to improve on all those things.
10:12So I think we can fight at the front and hopefully it can be a feature race podium soon.
10:17So we'll be doing our best.
10:20What did you think of Roman Belinsky's lap then there, Piers?
10:22Purple sectors?
10:23Looked pretty dialed to me.
10:24There was no chopping of the steering wheel, no issues.
10:28But do you know what?
10:29I love that sort of thing.
10:31It really gets me excited when we get a little bit of an insight there.
10:34I used to drive, not to the level of Formula 2, but, you know, I tried to push myself to
10:38try and do as well as I could.
10:40And that was some of the things that these drivers do.
10:42And you'll often see and hear drivers talk about it and the detail they go into, into their visualizations.
10:48You know, I think there was a famous clip a few years ago of Formula, a Formula champion in this
10:52category of George Russell.
10:53And he was visualizing a lap and he was going through and saying, upper gear, third gear, changing the brake
10:58bias.
10:59Look at the windsock as you drove past.
11:01You know, this is the level of detail, the operational.
11:04They are absolutely world-class athletes by the time they get to FIA Formula 2,
11:08which is why we see it so close week in, week out, and why we see drivers jump up from
11:14FIA F2 and be competitive in Formula 1 and take championships and victories.
11:19These drivers are the best young drivers in the world at the moment.
11:24And that's why the racing we have is so, so good.
11:27Colton Herter is going to be one of seven rookies going out in FT1.
11:32He will be out for Cadillac.
11:34Dino Beganovic will be jumping in for Ferrari.
11:37We'll have our reigning champion, Leo Forneroli, out there.
11:40Frederic Vesti will be out for Mercedes.
11:43Yumu Awasa out for Red Bull.
11:45And then a couple of other graduates.
11:46Luke Browning for Williams.
11:48Paul Aaron for Audi as well.
11:50So a big day coming up for those.
11:52Colton Herter jumping in for the first time.
11:55Leo Forneroli jumping in as well.
11:57What a morning they have ahead.
11:59Yeah, real opportunity for those drivers.
12:01And, again, no coincidence that it's happening here at a circuit that all the teams and drivers,
12:06both in FIA F3, F2 and Formula 1, know so well.
12:09Because the Formula 1 teams, they want and, to a certain extent, need to give their junior drivers opportunities.
12:15There are allocated sessions they must use for young drivers.
12:18But they choose to do a circuit where everyone knows the layout very well.
12:23They have a lot of experience.
12:25Because, of course, those Formula 1 teams, their full-season drivers, are more experienced.
12:31So, therefore, if you can use the experience from these young drivers who have at Barcelona,
12:34they're going to be up to speed quicker.
12:36They're going to be able to help out more.
12:37And it's also great to see that we are seeing so many graduates getting opportunities in Formula 1.
12:42And that, I'm sure, would answer many people's questions as to why we all sat in the pit lane.
12:48It's because we did three days of pre-season testing here.
12:51The home fans all in, though, and one driver they will be cheering for is Mary Boyer, a winner here
12:57in Formula 3.
12:58Let's hear what he had to say coming into the weekend.
13:01For sure, it's always the best week, I will say, from the year.
13:06I'm doing the thing I love the most, that is racing, and in the place where are coming friends and
13:11family.
13:12So, it's super special, a track that I really know, and I have good memories in here.
13:16So, super excited for it.
13:20Big weekend, isn't it, for Mary Boyer, racing on home soil.
13:26We've got the likes of Bruno Del Pino racing as well in Formula 3.
13:32That's going to be a huge moment for him, isn't it, going out, and he'll really want to try and
13:36get a good result.
13:37It's been a bit of a difficult start to the season for him, but here's a place where he'll look
13:41to try and turn that around.
13:42Yeah, Boyer, a driver that, as we know, came third in F3 last season, came off the back of the
13:48last year with Campos,
13:49has moved up, changed team, and not had the season start, maybe, that he would have wanted.
13:55But he knows he's quick round, he's looking relaxed, I mean, that interview, he doesn't exactly look like he's stressed,
14:00does he?
14:00Loves being at home, loves racing here.
14:02But Boyer, last season, when we came to Barcelona in F3, had a good week, well, actually, had a good
14:08qualifying,
14:09was inside the top ten, but his feature race didn't go to plan.
14:11But there's something about a home race, isn't there?
14:14Ultimately, there's no quantifiable advantage, because where you're born makes no relevance
14:19on how quickly you're going to go around a racetrack in that country.
14:21However, the records show that that bit of extra confidence, that relaxation,
14:26the unquantifiables that we were chatting about in F3 practice, Chris,
14:30they become measurable when they're all added together.
14:32We were talking in F3 practice about how the logistics of a race weekend,
14:38and where the drivers are staying, and all the bits around the driving,
14:42all can have positive and negative impacts.
14:45And one of those is, you know, if you've got your friends and family around you,
14:47you're going to be in a relaxed state of mind, you're going to be looking for a good time,
14:50you're going to be more relaxed to be able to get the most out of yourself.
14:53John Bennett, we saw there.
14:56We'll pick up on him in just a second.
14:58He's had a bit of a difficult time of things, but has shown very encouraging pace.
15:03To the top of the championship, Gabriele Mini leads the way.
15:07He's had four podiums in a row over the past few rounds.
15:10Let's hear what the MP driver had to say coming into the weekend.
15:14I'm very excited.
15:15We know already what we need to do.
15:17The team knows where they're at, and you know what they need to do also in the car.
15:20So everything should be not easier, but let's say you come more prepared than a new truck.
15:26So yeah, I'm really excited for this.
15:28We do know this truck very well, but we know truck condition is always very different.
15:32So it's still going to be up to doing the least mistakes as possible,
15:35and of course to the pace you have in general, because I mean, we know that still to fight at
15:40the front,
15:40you need to be one of the quickest.
15:43Gabriele Mini, our championship leader by a single point ahead of Nikola Solov,
15:48who's either won or not scored any points, believe it or not.
15:52Martini Estension in third place then has had a good last two rounds,
15:57scored three points in the first two rounds, but then has really picked up the pace.
16:02Alex Dunn, fourth place for Rodin, so two Rodin drivers up there in the top five.
16:06Noel Leon in fifth, who has won the last two sprint races.
16:10It's two sprint races. When you look at the standings, I mean, Gabriele Mini has shown consistency,
16:17and Nikola Solov has just shown race wins.
16:20It's been a, apart from Mini, no other drivers have really got that momentum going yet,
16:25but this gives them a good chance to do that.
16:27I'm not a betting man, Chris. If I was, I wouldn't be placing bets on who's going to win the
16:31championship.
16:32Because there's, honestly, it's so hard to call. Yes, Gabriele Mini at the moment has that lead,
16:39and Solov is right there with him. They've got a bit of a buffer to everyone else.
16:42But you look down the order, Stenshawn has had two retirements, not out of his fault,
16:46from points-paying feature races. We've had Alex Dunn, who's had a couple of retirements as well,
16:50and he's been rapid recently. You know, the last two feature races, he had a second and a second.
16:55Noel Leon's coming into a great run of form.
16:56Dina Boganovich has been so unlucky. Two podium positions he's lost out on due to ill fortune,
17:04not of his own doing. So, amazing to see. Kamara's been fast.
17:08You know, he got pole position, was in with a race, winning the feature race last time out.
17:12Small mistake meant no score. You cannot call him. He's still got a lot of racing to go, haven't we?
17:19Absolutely. Believe it or not, just 10 points have been scored from pole position in the feature races
17:24out of a possible 100, Piers. So, it's almost a curse to start on pole position.
17:31You get the two points for pole, but 10 points out of 100.
17:34I would still be taking the pole position, Chris, even though that it seems to be a bit of a
17:39curse,
17:39because ultimately, entertaining as it is, it's just one of those funny stats at the moment.
17:44You'd rather be starting with a clear track ahead of you.
17:46Well, the person on pole position last time was Rafa Kamara.
17:49Let's hear his thoughts coming into this weekend after what was disappointing for us.
17:56Whatever we can take this weekend, we take for the championship, and we continue this walking.
18:02It's always nice to get a win. Last year was good here, so, yeah, just looking forward for that Sunday
18:08race.
18:09Also, for qualifying here is always nice, very tight.
18:12So, yeah, it will be a good weekend, just being positive about everything and working in the best way as
18:22I can with the team
18:23to make sure that we will be always there.
18:26Ferrari Junior, Rafa Kamara, real disappointing for him, wasn't it?
18:32Came out with a substantial lead, but that just closed immediately with Nikola Solov on warm tyres.
18:39Then an unusual mistake from Rafa Kamara into the first corner, locked up going into the first corner,
18:46and we could hear the disappointment, not just from him, but from the team as well, Piers.
18:50Yeah, there was a clip of the team radio played out which sounded pretty harsh towards Kamara,
18:56but it's important for people that maybe haven't been directly involved in motorsport at this level or even team sport.
19:03They are so well gelled as a team, and that's actually one thing that I wanted to talk about in
19:08this practice session,
19:09as I've been so impressed with Invicta as a team, both with their drivers, but also all of the personnel
19:14behind the scenes,
19:15the mechanics, the engineers, everyone this season.
19:17And this goes for all the teams that we've just seen visualisations, some good examples of it this year from
19:22Invicta.
19:23Where was it? I think Miami qualifying. Rafa Kamara clicked the wall in his first run.
19:27The team frantically working to get that front or rear suspension unit changed, got it changed in time, performed in
19:34qualifying.
19:34We then saw it again last weekend, the team working frantically on Kamara's car to get him out, only just
19:40got him out on circuit.
19:41And then he delivered. It's a real good example of both how important it is as a team unit, both
19:49driver and team,
19:50to work together to support each other to get the results, because either one of them, those sides, the driver
19:55or the team,
19:56could have stopped what was a winning opportunity in that feature race,
20:00because that qualifying set up the opportunity for that win. If the team hadn't got the car fixed,
20:04Kamara wouldn't have been able to go out and perform the way he did.
20:07And also, Kamara, he knew he only had one lap in qualifying left.
20:11He knew the team had worked hard to put it together. The pressure was on, and he delivered.
20:16Ultimately, we know Kamara, one lap pace. That is his USP.
20:20He is outrageously fast over one lap, no doubt.
20:23But the man can deliver under pressure. That was a serious high-pressure situation, and he delivered.
20:28But the teams, they travel around together. They effectively live together. They work together.
20:33It may sound sometimes harsh on the radio or brutal or I don't even know what word you want to
20:40use.
20:41But this is professional sport. This is... You don't have football players talking to each other,
20:46teammates on the football pitch, for example, saying,
20:49Oh, excuse me, mate, would you mind passing the ball a bit faster next time?
20:53No, it's like, give me the ball. You know, they're all here for the same goal.
20:57They're here. Their passion is there.
20:59And it's great to see why we love sport and why sport is so great.
21:03And I hope we see more moments of drama that give us entertainment
21:07and also opportunities to see how these teams are so strong together.
21:11And we've seen the reactions from...
21:14I remember Campos when they got in the top ten.
21:17The reaction they had from the pit wall,
21:20you could just see how much it meant to them as a team.
21:23And going back to Camara, that, for me, was one of the best qualifying performances
21:27we've had in Formula 2 history.
21:29You look back at Oli Behrman was one of them, wasn't it?
21:31Back in where he had a bent...
21:34He was driving with a bent steering wheel, essentially.
21:37So, yeah, that, for me, has got to go down as one of the best performances.
21:41Let's talk at Emerson Fittipaldi quickly while he's on screen.
21:45Someone who has been very impressive.
21:47I think AIX have shown good pace, haven't they?
21:49But in particular, Emerson Fittipaldi proved that that wasn't a one-off performance,
21:54his performance over in Canada.
21:57Once again, looking good last weekend as well.
22:00So, Emerson Fittipaldi, let's see what he can do this weekend.
22:05Let's track where he's got knowledge at.
22:07As with many of the drivers we've spoken to, this circuit is well-used in single-seater racing.
22:13And the reason being, it's very central.
22:15The weather's good, especially in the winter for testing as they get the car started.
22:19But also, it suits a single-seater car.
22:23The medium-high-speed flowing nature of this circuit is really what lends itself to the strengths
22:30of a single-seater in the racing as well.
22:32This long straight down towards turn one over a kilometre, 1,047 metres I've got noted,
22:38I think, down the centre of that straight with the DRS open in this car.
22:42You've then got the open turn three where you can have side-by-side running,
22:45which also brings tyre preservation into it as well because you push too hard on that front left
22:51or out of the traction zones and you can burn your tyres and then you'll be struggling towards the end.
22:56Then that middle sector, two or three overtaking opportunities.
22:58And Pitipaldi will be looking to try and use his experience in previous categories to push on.
23:03And let's not forget, he's one of the least experienced drivers on the grid.
23:07Didn't do F3, jumped up from other formulas and is showing that he belongs in F2.
23:12Laurence van Hoopen, we didn't really get to see what he could do last weekend.
23:16Both Tridents are out in qualifying in what was a really disappointing weekend for them.
23:22Laurence van Hoopen having that incident with Cushmine.
23:25And then, of course, we did see him have the crash in the Wall of Champions in Canada.
23:31But he's shown great pace this weekend.
23:33He's another driver who's looked a different driver this season, hasn't he?
23:37He's really come on form.
23:39Formula 3, his second season, didn't quite go to plan for his standards.
23:45But Laurence van Hoopen putting Trident back towards the front of the grid.
23:50Yeah, van Hoopen, as you mentioned, Chris, his second season in F3 wasn't what he hoped.
23:55He had a strong debut year and then 12th place in F3.
23:58Moved up some sort of said he could have done a third year in F3.
24:01But I think he showed to himself and the team, potentially, he was performing at the level.
24:06But just from a few things within or outside of his control meant the championship wasn't exactly what he wanted
24:12in Formula 3.
24:15Moved up to a team who, I think it's fair to say, struggled in F2 with Trident.
24:19You know, they are the team to beat in F3.
24:22But in F2, they haven't really been there.
24:23And it seems like van Hoopen's really driving them forward.
24:26That drive that weekend in Montreal was faultless bar one moment.
24:32But unfortunately, that one moment was him cluttering into the Wall of Champions.
24:36I mean, he's not joining a bad group of drivers, is he?
24:38But still, that would have been at least a podium in the feature race,
24:41which would have thrown him right inside that championship hunt.
24:45Campos Racing took their first home win in FI Formula 2 here last year with Arvid Lindblad.
24:50Can another Red Bull junior do the same in Nicolas Olof?
24:53Here's what he had to say coming into the weekend.
24:58I think the atmosphere in Campos is always great.
25:00And they've been working so much as well.
25:02So they deserve it more than anything.
25:05So, you know, they always make sure as a driver you're fine.
25:09They put the right environment for you.
25:11They put the right people working around you so that you can really match your energy
25:16and have a deeper relation than just motorsport and racing,
25:20which in the end I think that's what makes a great team.
25:25And Nicolas Olof has got a really good connection with that Campos team, hasn't he?
25:30And there seems to be a good relationship with him and Noel Leon.
25:33Let's watch him then.
25:34First flying lap, Piz.
25:35We've had to wait a while, but Nicolas Olof will take us.
25:37We saw him soaring away at the wheel through Turn 1, 2, and 3.
25:41Absolutely no lack of commitment from Solov, the driver that is right at the top of the champion.
25:46He's second place, only a point behind our leader, sliding his way through Turn 4 as well,
25:50as we now drop down towards Turn 5.
25:52Watch out for a lock-up on the left-hand side here.
25:54Very tricky off-camber corner where the track limits come up quickly on the exit.
25:58Again, wheel spin out there through the downhill kink of Turn 6 into the 7 and 8 section.
26:03Very technical through here.
26:04Watch out for the raised sausage kerb on the right-hand side.
26:06Solov bottoms out but avoids that kerb.
26:08Purful at the moment, but we've still got plenty of running to come.
26:11Turn 9, very, very committed.
26:13Watch out for track limits on the exit there.
26:15The blue line, that shows on the inside of the tyres.
26:18That means your lap time will be deleted.
26:20Turn 10, need to profile in the last few years.
26:22The drivers are up to speed with it now.
26:24You can take a bit of kerb on the inside and then try and get back to the left-hand
26:27side
26:27to open up Turn 12.
26:29Uphill, it feels like it goes on forever and it goes over a crest at the exit.
26:33Easy to run wide.
26:35Can go flat out through Turn 13.
26:37Sounded like we were at that time.
26:39And 14, a real high-commitment corner soaring at the way at the wheel.
26:43Easily over 100 miles an hour for a lap around with a purple final sector.
26:47Solov a 27-1.
26:50Now, I expect qualifying to be in the 25s, maybe even nudging a 24
26:54as we jump on board with Championship Leader Gabriele Mini for MP Motorsport.
26:58Also fighting the car hard to Turn 3.
27:01Understeer, oversteer, understeer.
27:03Oh!
27:03Big oversteer.
27:04And again, that's something that drivers will have to look out for as well.
27:08Such a well-used circuit is this one here in Barcelona
27:12that on the racing line, plenty of grip to be had.
27:15Off of the racing line, lots of marbles.
27:18The grip drops away dramatically.
27:21So, if you run a bit wide into a corner or run a bit wide through the middle of a
27:25corner,
27:26you can expect to see your grip drop away as Dunn jumps pretty much to the top of the field.
27:30Only a couple of thousands away from Solov's first run.
27:33Alex Dunn, second.
27:35Alpine junior, similar to Gabriele Mini and Cushmine.
27:38They were one, two, and three in practice.
27:40And Monaco, Alpine, very good junior drivers on their hands.
27:43Here's Rafa Kamara then heading round on his first real flying lap.
27:48The Invicta racing driver took pole position in Formula 3 here last year.
27:53And the feature race win as well, very much part of helping him win the championship with a round to
27:58spare.
27:59Heads through the final corner, up to the line he goes.
28:01And that's P8 in this practice session for the time being.
28:05Interesting though, wasn't it?
28:05It was a good weekend for Kamara, but also a turbulent one because he crashed at the start of the
28:10sprint.
28:10Yeah, correct.
28:11But that was, you know, an uncharacteristic error.
28:14And we saw an uncharacteristic error from him last time out in that feature race from Cole Ties.
28:18And the fight with Solov.
28:19But Van Hoopen, we were just chatting about him.
28:24Trident rejuvenated this year, especially with Van Hoopen.
28:27Bennett's actually been very impressive at times this year as well.
28:29And been unlucky too.
28:31But to the top of the times, again, only practice, still 20 minutes to go.
28:34But encouraging signs that on one run, like for like, they can be in the mix with the likes of
28:40the roadins and your campuses and such like drivers and teams that are often at the front more recently.
28:49We've been waiting a little while for cars to come out in this session, Piers.
28:54What do you think the plan is?
28:55Because it's a track they know well.
28:57So does that change the plan from the usual, say, on Monaco, for example?
29:01Yeah, no doubt.
29:02It changes because these teams and drivers have many, many years of data and experience, both in terms of the
29:08teams with Formula 2 cars.
29:10We first came here in 2017, didn't we?
29:14In Formula 2.
29:15And in this iteration of car, it's the third visit here.
29:18So we've got data from previous years.
29:20Not a huge amount of big overhauls in the setup are required.
29:24Also, with the drivers knowing the circuit, even if they haven't driven a Formula 2 car in anger here, they
29:30will have had that in-season test, which pretty much all the drivers attended recently as well.
29:34So, yeah, it's an opportunity for the team of drivers to have a run on the tyres, but they'll be
29:40saving as many of the tyres as they can for qualifying.
29:44We know how important qualifying is in a Formula 2 weekend.
29:47You qualify well, you probably won't have a good weekend.
29:49You qualify badly, it's an uphill struggle.
29:50So, these tyres, fastest on their first flying lap out of the pits, so they will try and keep as
29:57many brand new sets as they can for that qualifying session, because it doesn't matter if you're quickest in practice,
30:02no points for that, is there?
30:04Absolutely not.
30:05Two points you get for pole position in qualifying.
30:08You've got to be in the top ten to be included in the reverse grid for the sprint race on
30:13Saturday.
30:14That will be the key.
30:16Gabriele Mene, the key for him so far has been consistency, hasn't it?
30:20It's no surprise to see him at the front here, as we've seen him be successful in F4.
30:26He's fought for championships in Formula Regional, in Formula 3 as well, and now he seems to be showing that
30:33form again here in Formula 2.
30:35Yeah, well, he was one corner away from being F3 champion, wasn't he, two seasons ago, and now in F2,
30:41his second season really looking like he's taken a step forward, and it is that consistency that has been the
30:47mark of his season so far.
30:48As we follow over the line, Alex Dunn with a slightly different livery on his helmet, by the looks of
30:53it.
30:53Yes, he did a new one for Monaco, Alex Dunn.
30:57New crash helmet, and it looks very nice, I have to say.
31:01That takes us nicely on to speaking about the Irishman.
31:04Villa Gomez took a podium here last year, third place for him.
31:08Alex Dunn looking good.
31:10He's got a couple of podiums now under his belt, hasn't he, over the past two rounds.
31:15He's pretty much featured on the podium every single round, says Alex Dunn.
31:19Looking good this season so far, isn't he?
31:23He's looking very good, very fast, no doubt.
31:25We saw that last season, was one of the fastest drives of the year.
31:29Consistency was probably his weak point last year, got in a few too many incidents.
31:34We've seen him in a couple of incidents this year as well, two retirements.
31:37Of course, that issue in Montreal as well, where he had that contact as well, didn't he?
31:43And I think it was at the sprint race.
31:46So always one to go for a gap if it's there, always one to get stuck in.
31:50And if he needs to make positions, you can bank into making positions.
31:53But he leans more on the high-risk side of moves.
31:57But that means that, you know, when the move's there to be done, he's going to do it.
32:01And I think this second half of this year, if he can just consolidate good results, stay out of trouble.
32:08We know the Rodin's quick.
32:10We know he's quick.
32:11It's going to be a championship challenge.
32:14But his teammate, also Martinius Denshawn, is in a rich run of form.
32:17Two podiums in Montreal and then two point scores in Monaco.
32:21And without those bad lucks as well, with the retirement in Albert Park in Melbourne.
32:32There we go.
32:33And then, of course, also that unfortunate issue in Miami.
32:37He would be right at the top of the championship and he's still sitting third.
32:39So Rodin looking like they're in a strong position at this early stage.
32:43And we've had a lot of racing, Chris, but we've still got so much more to come this season.
32:47Yeah, round four, well, round five, rather, of 14 at Rodin in the top five in all four sessions so
32:54far with both cars.
32:56They are very, very quick as we jump on board with the quickest driver.
33:00Look how close it is, though, Piers, to the right-hand side of screen.
33:03Less than three tenths between the top ten.
33:06Absolutely nothing in it.
33:07I'm getting, I couldn't remember the name of Melbourne and you're saying it's on the right, Chris, it's on the
33:11left.
33:11It's on the left, of course, yeah.
33:13On the left, yes, but look how close it is.
33:15It's Friday morning, isn't it?
33:16We've got a long way to go this weekend, but look, again, you're absolutely right.
33:21Half a second takes you down to 15th place.
33:24You're two tenths off, you're in sixth.
33:26It's incredible.
33:28And I mentioned it earlier on when we were seeing Roman Belinsky visualising in the pits.
33:34The reason we see it so close every weekend, despite the fact that all these teams and cars are different
33:39and drivers are different,
33:40is because they're all operating to such a high level and the cars are all the same.
33:43Colton Herter, big weekend for him, going out in FP1.
33:49Not been the start of the season he may have hoped for, Colton Herter.
33:54Has said he wants to improve his qualifying performances, get inside the top ten, but it is showing the level
34:02of competitiveness in this grid, isn't it?
34:05There's a reason why these are your future world championship leaders and world champions of Formula One.
34:13And this is why Cadillac have put him in Formula Two.
34:16Absolutely.
34:17It's the experience of the European circuit, some of which Herter's raced out in his early single-seater career.
34:22But he's been out in America racing IndyCar, which is also hugely competitive.
34:26But it's a slightly different genre of single-seater racing.
34:29And these cars need to be manhandled in a slightly different way to how he would be doing in IndyCar.
34:35And he's definitely getting up to speed.
34:37I mean, he's done a good job this year so far.
34:39I mean, an example of it, in this session so far, he was, what, just before this lap, yeah, nearly
34:45three tenths off, which is not a huge amount.
34:47But so competitive, is it?
34:49That it means he's further down the order as it looks.
34:51Oh, Leon is off, coming through.
34:54What's that?
34:54That's coming through turn three, isn't it?
34:56Red flag is out.
34:58And that was on his first flying lap.
35:00You can see to the left of screen that he had not yet set a time.
35:04Olly Gertha down in 22nd.
35:06What has happened there?
35:07We've seen drivers getting a little bit loose through that corner, haven't we?
35:10And I wonder if that's what's happened with Noel Leon.
35:14I mean, you'll see him climbing out the car, walking away.
35:17But, yeah, let's have a look at what happened then, Piers.
35:21Yeah, so, I mean, assuming he's probably going to get understood in the middle of the corner, maybe run wide.
35:25And you'll see the dust kick up and, therefore, car bottoms out.
35:28And it's just, again, an example of how precise you have to be.
35:32He was probably half a car's width, which is, what, 60 centimetres wider than he would have wanted to have
35:37been at 140 miles an hour or so.
35:40And that meant that he was on a slightly dirtier part of the circuit.
35:44He's shaking his left hand there, so maybe just got a bit jarred in the chassis.
35:49But you're just a bit wide off the circuit, which means you've got less grip, which means you run a
35:53bit wider, which means you hit a bump, which means you spin.
35:55And that's the end of your session as Mini, also in the same place.
35:57This is exactly when Noel Leon, in the next corner, runs wide.
36:01But, again, that's an example of the fine margins.
36:04Mini touches the curb ever so slightly with his inside left tyre, unsettles the car.
36:10And you have that on a qualifying lap, what Mini did.
36:13You'll lose a few, maybe a tenth or so, which in this session would have lost you three or four
36:18places.
36:18Or you have a slightly larger error, and then your session's over.
36:22And don't forget, in the races, we've got, what, 27 laps, isn't it?
36:2726 laps of the sprint, 37 laps of the feature.
36:30You're going to be on the limit for every single one of those laps, and a mistake like that will
36:33cost you dearly.
36:34This is going to lose them data, isn't it, as well.
36:37Well, that's exactly what they would have wanted to get Noel Leon.
36:41And so he's going to be going into qualifying a little bit blind in terms of today.
36:47They would have had that running in pre-season testing.
36:50Now, you see the engine cover off Cushminey's car there.
36:53Just a little bit of changes going on, it seems to that.
36:57Yeah, there's a few things you can change to these cars in the pits.
37:00You know, the rear cover's been taken off.
37:02It looks like looking at the number six there of, is that Solov?
37:07Yeah, it is Solov.
37:08The Campos team changing the front wing angle, so that's aerodynamic balance.
37:12So how much front grip compared to rear grip.
37:16We're looking at Miney, the back of the car, they can potentially change the roll bar adjustment position.
37:21So basically the roll bar controls how the car leans and how the weight is distributed between the left rear
37:27wheel and the right rear wheel.
37:29Stiffen it, and it means that more load is transferred to the outside wheel, which, you know, basically the more
37:35stiff it is, the more the rear will slide, the less rear grip you have.
37:40So if you want some more rotation, you've got understeer, you might stiffen the rear bar.
37:43If you want more traction out of the slower corners, you want more rear grip, you might soften that rear
37:48bar as well.
37:49And then also there was a laptop being plugged into Solov's car, and the team was showing Solov something.
37:54That'll be looking at the data, they'll be comparing the speed traces, the throttle, the brake, the steering inputs compared
38:00to the other cars,
38:01and also data sessions that they've had from good laps in previous sessions, seasons as well,
38:07just to make sure that every single part of the car and the driver is operating to 100% on
38:13every single centimetre of this track,
38:14because that is what's required to take pole position.
38:18Now John Bennett's a victim of track limits there, you just saw him drop down the order.
38:23This could be a thing come qualifying later, and they've had some adjustments to the track this year, haven't they?
38:31Lines down on the circuit for the drivers to make sure they stay within this.
38:36Yeah, a few minor adjustments to the circuit, nothing majorly different.
38:40There was a bollard that was on the outside of turn three, where if the drivers went off at turn
38:45one or two, they had to go round.
38:46That's no longer there, as Noel Leon makes his scenic route back to the pits after his early exit from
38:52practice.
38:53But you may notice a few more blue lines on the outside, the white lines around the circuit.
38:58Those are the main changes around the circuit, really.
39:00There's a new surface in the pit lane as well.
39:02That won't make a huge difference to proceedings.
39:04But those blue lines helping the race direction team and the FIA determine whether track limit infringements have been made
39:10or not.
39:11And you mentioned, Chris, because we have a circuit here where there are runoff areas, that can often lead to
39:17track limit infringements.
39:19And drivers will be pushing up to the absolute limit of the track and what they're allowed to,
39:23because that's how you get the most speed through a corner and the most out of your FIF2 car and
39:27on your goal towards qualifying at the front of the field.
39:30But you go slightly too far outside track limits, and that's it.
39:34The lap time deleted.
39:35We know from pre-season testing as well.
39:37We saw Noel Leon going back.
39:39That's a long walk to get round from that part of the circuit to the pit lane.
39:44You can see the clock keeps going when we're under a red flag.
39:47Practice would not be the case in qualifying, but in practice the clock will keep ticking down.
39:52Are we going to see a little bit of a dress rehearsal to qualify, Piers, when we go green again?
39:57We might see an undress rehearsal.
39:59So I think we'll see some drivers go out there and do a mock qualifying.
40:03But I don't expect to see many teams bolting on a new set of slick tyres.
40:07They'll be saving those on their trolleys, in their lockers for qualifying, saving the best of the tyre.
40:13And for those who maybe are new to Formula 2, why are they not using all their tyres in practice?
40:18Why would they not go out and get as much practice as possible ahead of qualifying?
40:21Well, this circuit, the teams and drivers know very well, so they have previous experience.
40:25But also, these Pirelli tyres and pretty much all racing slick tyres are fastest on the first lap from when
40:32they're new.
40:32They drop off quite considerably, you know, anywhere between three tenths of a second down to a second compared to
40:38your first flying lap to the second flying lap on a set of tyres.
40:41And you'll get two, maybe three runs in qualifying.
40:43So you want to save all that good grip and extra speed through the corners for when it matters most,
40:49which is qualifying.
40:50And because they know the circuit well here at Barcelona, they don't need to then abuse all those tyres in
40:56practice.
40:56Most teams and drivers will have just used one set of tyres in this practice session.
41:01Well, we'll see the green flag come out very shortly, I'm sure, and the drivers will get a chance to
41:09go out.
41:09Oli Goethe yet to put a real flying lap on the board.
41:12He was in a similar process to Noel Leon and about to start his first real flying lap.
41:17Roman Belinsky going very well, isn't he, in second place up there.
41:21That's good pace for the Dams driver.
41:23Laurence van Hoopen leading the way in a session and not for the first time.
41:27Then Alex Dunne in third, Rafael Villegomez, as we mentioned, on the podium here last year in fourth.
41:32Stenshaw Mini, Camara, Hertha, Solov, Montoya, and the Marshalls still recovering that car of Noel Leon.
41:41Yeah, where Leon stopped that car is a long way from any gap in the barrier.
41:46So the Marshalls are doing a great job to retrieve that as quickly as possible and clear any of that
41:49gravel,
41:49which is important because if another driver runs wide there and they go over that gravel,
41:52it will literally be like driving on an ice rink.
41:55But an interesting point, Chris, that I'm just looking at, the lap times.
41:58Great to see Van Hoopen-Belinsky done, you know, doing well at the top of this session.
42:0226.7 is our fastest lap time so far.
42:05Pole last year, 25.1 in the same car, similar conditions.
42:11So we're a second and a half away.
42:12Now, granted, we are mostly using the harder tyre in this session.
42:16I imagine we'll see the softer tyre come out for qualifying.
42:18However, this is an example of how difficult it is for these drivers to perform and get the most out
42:24of themselves in qualifying
42:25because they're driving out there in a dusty circuit, a circuit that's rubbering in on a hard tyre.
42:31Later on this afternoon, they're going to go out there on a soft tyre.
42:33Formula 1's been out, Formula 3's been out.
42:35The circuit has evolved.
42:35The track temperature's different.
42:36And they will still have to go out there and perform and get the most out of the tyres in
42:41the car that they have underneath them
42:42when it will feel completely different, travelling a second or so faster per lap.
42:46And they still have to be absolutely on the limit of grip from session one.
42:50So that's why these drivers like Belinsky, as we mentioned, second place so far.
42:54We saw the visualisation ahead of this session.
42:56They will be having mental models in their head thinking, right, this is a hard tyre lap, so I'll need
43:02to brake here.
43:02I'll need to change down this many gears. I can only turn in this fast.
43:05This is the apex speed that I want.
43:07Then they will switch on, right, I've got a soft tyre run coming up.
43:09In their mind, they'll be going, right, I can brake five metres later into turn one.
43:12They can hold one more gear through the middle of turn three because they don't have to slow it down
43:16as much.
43:17They can anticipate how much throttle to use on the exit of the slow corners.
43:21All of this is building a picture to allow them to absolutely extract the most they can
43:26because if you're only reacting to the session that's underneath you,
43:28you're going to be one session behind everyone else who is ready to go.
43:31Absolutely that.
43:33And here is Noel Leon walking back into the pit lane.
43:39You can see the drivers all lining up.
43:42They're not the position you want to be in watching the remaining cars go out, is it?
43:47First flying lap for Noel Leon and it's ended in the grapple.
43:51If you were going to spin out of practice on your first lap of a practice session on a Formula
43:562 weekend,
43:58actually for Noel Leon, if you had to do one, this is probably the circuit you would do it at,
44:02considering it's one that the teams and drivers know the best.
44:05I mean, it's still not good, but I don't think it will have been as detrimental as, for example,
44:10when we went to Miami and Campos, both drivers, had basically no laps in practice.
44:15That was a big, a big dent in their weekend.
44:18Actually, they bounced back very well, but not so damaging this weekend here in Boston.
44:24You can see some of the drivers just pulling to the right and side into the grid slots to do
44:29practice starts.
44:31This one of the starts, we talked a bit about this in Formula 3, Piers,
44:34where you can get the jump here from the second row and be leading down to that first corner.
44:39Then you've got the opportunity to take the outside line on the braking zone there.
44:43We see a lot of side-by-side through that first corner on the first lap.
44:47We do see a lot of side-by-side, and you're right, Chris, this is an opportunity for the drivers.
44:52The start, potentially more critical here than at a lot of other circuits
44:55because such a long run down from the start-finish line or your grid position towards turn one.
45:01The long start-finish straight at nearly 1,050 metres.
45:05From the start box, probably about 750 metres, I'd say, down towards turn one,
45:10a bit more if you're at the back of the grid.
45:11So if you get a bad start, it's just amplified.
45:14You get a good start, you can jump more than a row, potentially,
45:17and you've already mentioned it.
45:18So why is it down towards turn one?
45:20You can make moves inside and outside.
45:22Was it last year or the year before?
45:24George Russell in Formula 1 cut a cross around the outside to take win.
45:28We've seen drivers, Alonso in 2012 or 2013,
45:31cutting round drivers on the right-hand side towards turn one.
45:34So qualifying is still very important, but a good start, critical.
45:38Before we see these last flying laps of practice,
45:42we talked a bit about visualisation.
45:44Is that something the drivers would do before a race?
45:47It's something that almost all of the drivers will do, Chris.
45:50It's such a mental sport, motorsport and driving.
45:53Yes, you have to physically be fit enough and have the strong neck
45:56and the conditioning to be able to perform at the highest level
45:59and a lot of mental load and physical load with the G-forces.
46:03But ultimately, it's a skill-based sport.
46:05And with such limited practice and circuit time per race weekend and per season,
46:10all of the bits you can do to make yourself as prepared as possible
46:13are going to go towards helping you get the goal of getting pole position
46:17and winning the race and putting in a good lap.
46:19And as we saw with Belinsky right before he got in the car, visualising
46:22and then able to execute to go second as it stands.
46:25But we're about to start the final flying laps.
46:28I don't expect to see too much more improvement
46:30as most of the teams and drivers are still on their hard tyres
46:32that they've used throughout this session.
46:34So definitely past their best, but a little bit of an opportunity
46:37for the drivers to feel how the car is underneath them
46:40and experience what the circuit is like on this very day
46:42to give them a bit of an indication of what it's going to be like
46:45in qualifying later on.
46:46Championship leader Gabriele Mini for MP Motorsport
46:50through Turn 4, making the apex nicely.
46:52A long opening radius corner there, so that hurts the left rear tyre especially.
46:57Then the technical turn 5, downhill off camber.
47:01If you run wide there, track limits can come into play.
47:04And then Turn 6 and 7, we've seen through here.
47:06Sorry, 6 is the kink.
47:077 and 8 is the right-hand kink.
47:09Watch out for 8 because that sausage kerb is in the way.
47:12And then a very, very high commitment, high-speed Turn 9.
47:16Very nicely and cleanly executed from Gabriele Mini
47:19as we break down to another real overtaking opportunity in the races
47:23at Turn 10, the second of the two DRS zones on the lap.
47:27Again, inside and outside, potentially if you get ahead in the braking zone.
47:31But because Turn 10 is such a long radius left-hand corner,
47:34it's hard to do so then.
47:36The last sector, no overtaking opportunities.
47:38It's all about setting yourself up for the good run
47:40and getting yourself within the DRS detection zone,
47:42which is that line there as we complete a lap here
47:44at the circuit to Catalunya-Barcelona.
47:47Yeah, and you've got to be careful of track limits
47:49through there, particularly through the last corner as well,
47:52as not only that lap will be deleted, but the next one as well.
47:55No real improvements out there on this final lap.
47:59As you said, Piers, the drivers have been using these tyres,
48:03but a lap in for Oli Gertha.
48:06Managed to get one in right at the end there,
48:10so we'll have a bit of data.
48:12Kian Shields, green through the first sector.
48:14Personal best, that means for him.
48:17Let's see him then through this final lap.
48:20In the points earlier this season,
48:23Kian Shields will be hoping for more of the same this weekend,
48:27but he's backed off on this lap.
48:29So that will be that for practice, Piers.
48:32It will be Laurence van Hoopen fastest
48:34by just under a...
48:36You can see half a tenth back is Roman Berlinski,
48:40seven hundredths back is Alex Dunn.
48:42It is so close.
48:43So, so close indeed.
48:45And I expect times to arguably be closer in qualifying.
48:49As we see Nikola Sola,
48:50that's an example of a driver pushing too hard through turn nine.
48:53That in qualifying would be beyond track limits.
48:56So, therefore, that lap time would have been deleted
48:59because you must keep at least one wheel
49:02on or between the white lines
49:04and also kicking up a bit of dust and debris as well there.
49:07So that will, in a race situation,
49:10cause his tyres to be lowering grip for the next corner or two.
49:13Oli Gertha wide through the penultimate corner,
49:16so his lap time deleted.
49:18And you can see drops back down to 22nd place.
49:23Great start for van Hoopen and Trident.
49:27Quickest with a 126.7,
49:29but we can just see how close it is.
49:31Look, there's 14 drivers within half a second, Piers.
49:35And I agree with you.
49:36I think it will be even closer if you qualify.
49:39I expect to see the whole grid covered by a second at most,
49:43or at least the top 15, 16 drivers.
49:45Because the circuit is well-known by the teams.
49:49It's our third visit here with this iteration of Formula 2 car.
49:53All the drivers are driven here in either Formula 3
49:56or if they haven't done Formula 3
49:57in their build-up and other categories.
50:00It brings everything together.
50:02Because also, actually, a lot of medium and high-speed corners
50:05means that the whole circuit flows nicely.
50:08So, therefore, you can get in a rhythm quite nicely.
50:11But then track limits, top of the screen.
50:13Gertha, confirmation that his lap time removed.
50:15That will be a sticking point for some drivers.
50:17You can set a blistering lap time,
50:19but you just stray slightly too wide.
50:21Next up, turn 9 there, for example.
50:23Turn 14, maybe even turn 4 and 5 or 6.
50:27Then that's it.
50:28That could be the end of your good weekend.
50:30We've seen how easy it is.
50:32Just to run wide as well through that first sector
50:35and then find yourself facing in the wrong directions.
50:39It's going to come down to fractions.
50:41And that can change your whole weekend, Formula 2.
50:43You're in the top 10,
50:45then you've got a real chance to score points.
50:47Back from that,
50:48and you make it a little bit more difficult for yourself.
50:50More difficult, but not impossible.
50:52Where did we see Gabriele Mille on this season
50:54driver's way through the field?
50:55Yeah, that's true.
50:56It can be done,
50:57but if you had the choice,
50:59you'd be at the front on the grid.
51:01Absolutely that.
51:02We've seen drivers come through,
51:04and like we mentioned earlier,
51:06just 10 points scored from pole position
51:08in feature races this season,
51:09showing how competitive Formula 2 racing is.
51:14The fans in,
51:16no doubt,
51:16will be cheering for the Campos racing team,
51:19but always look forward to the Formula 2
51:21and Formula 3 racing at the Grand Prix.
51:24Some of the best racing that we see
51:25on the Formula 1 calendar,
51:27arguably the Formula 2 races this season
51:28have been absolutely electric
51:31and look forward to more of exactly that.
51:33The fans on the ground will be loving it
51:34with the good weather as well.
51:37Practice result then
51:38at round five here in Barcelona for Formula 2.
51:42Lawrence Van Houten going quickest for Trident.
51:46126.7,
51:47Roman Belinsky and Alex Dunn
51:49both within a tenth of a second,
51:51second and third.
51:52Raphael Villegomez looking very quick
51:54in fourth place.
51:55Martín Estancho,
51:56both road-ins in the top five.
51:58Gabriele Mini,
51:59championship leader in P6,
52:00and Rafa Kamara,
52:01seventh.
52:01Colton Hurta, eighth.
52:03Nikola Solov right up there in the standings.
52:05He was P9.
52:06Montoya, tenth.
52:07Ritoa Miata,
52:0911th place for him.
52:09Pishmione,
52:10twelfth there.
52:11Nico Verone,
52:1230.
52:12Cristina Viganovic going out
52:14in FP1,
52:15as is Colton Hurta.
52:17He was 14th.
52:17Mary Boyer,
52:1815th in Dirksen.
52:19In Chipumazak,
52:20Bennett,
52:21Fittipaldi and Shields,
52:22the AIX Racing drivers,
52:2419th and 20th.
52:26Noel Leon taking a spin
52:28on his first flying lap
52:29and Olly Gertha
52:30had his lap time deleted
52:32for track limits.
52:35That is all for practice then.
52:37Don't forget,
52:38we will have some of our drivers
52:39out in free practice one.
52:41Make sure you tune in for that.
52:43We will be back
52:44for qualifying in Formula 2
52:46at 55 minutes past 3
52:48local time
52:49to set the grid
52:50for round 5
52:51of the season.
