01:08Look, it's been a tough start to the season for Aston Martin.
01:12Just how much satisfaction did the Monaco weekend and that point give you?
01:19Well, hello, everyone.
01:22Well, basically, I don't think that he made a huge difference on the weekend.
01:29You know, we scored a point because, you know,
01:32different things happened on the race, you know,
01:36on penalties and DNFs and things like that.
01:39But we cannot hide the truth that we were uncompetitive also in Monaco.

01:49But, yeah, I think this year is going to be difficult to score points for any team,

02:12I think you need some help from the cars in front.
02:15And in Monaco, it was, yeah, extra help.
02:18Fernando, for a guy with your record of success,
02:21how have the current issues affected your motivation
02:25and your belief in the Aston project?
02:29Well, motivation, not big chains,
02:32as I understand perfectly that, you know,
02:36how this sport works and, you know,
02:40how everything is in Formula One.
02:42And you need to have the right package to perform
02:44and you need to work around your team
02:47to get that package, you know, in the best place possible,
02:50as soon as possible as well,
02:52when you are not leading the pack.
02:53And, you know, we see so many examples of drivers
02:58that they are out of the top ten.
03:00Following year, they are winning races.
03:04Or vice versa, they are winning races
03:05then out of Q1.
03:08So, you know, motivation is still there
03:12because I believe in myself
03:14and I have full trust on what I'm able to do.
03:18And I feel that when I have with the same machinery
03:23of any other driver in the world,
03:25I never felt, you know, uncompetitive.
03:31In Formula One or outside this paddock,
03:33I drive many, many different cars
03:36and, you know, I felt the same way all my life
03:39and I still feel the same way now.
03:41And then the trust in the team,
03:43obviously, it's not ideal when you start
03:46a set of regulations on the back foot
03:48because everything takes time,
03:50especially in our case.
03:53I think the power unit, you know,
03:55we found very quickly
03:56that we were not up to speed
03:59and, yeah, it was a little bit immature,
04:03the project itself.
04:04So we realized quickly
04:07that we will need time to catch up
04:10and we will need time to fix some of the issues.
04:13But in Formula One, you race every two weeks
04:15and you need to deliver, you know,
04:19performance every two weeks.
04:21And we understood quite quick, you know,
04:24that we were not able to do that
04:25and it will be a tough start of the season.
04:29But we are navigating through that tough start
04:32and we have higher hopes
04:34for the second part of the year.
04:36But, you know, until then,
04:39yeah, every weekend is a little bit more
04:41or less the same story, you know,
04:45on and on.
04:46Lighter one to end with.
04:47World Cup starts today.
04:48How far will Spain get?
04:51Who's your biggest threat?
04:54Well, I hope we get to the final.
04:57You know, I think we are European champions
04:59and we are very strong.
05:04So, yeah, hopefully we can get to the final
05:06and the biggest threat.
05:10I don't know.
05:12I would say France.
05:14They have, you know,
05:15very good team as well and good players.
05:18But, yeah, always you have surprises
05:21in the World Cups.

05:27Monaco seemed to be a case
05:28of what might have been for you.
05:31Had you had a clean run in quali
05:33and the race?
05:34How much pace did the car have?
05:36No, I think we were definitely
05:39in the battle for points.
05:40Actually, I think, you know,
05:42I think we were maybe on par
05:44with Liam sitting next to me, maybe.
05:46If it was a normal qualifying,
05:50let's say, of course,
05:51it's never a normal qualifying in Monaco.
05:53But we got a bit unfortunate
05:55with the red flag,
05:56the timing of the red flag.
05:58After that, I tried really hard

06:03But my tyres were just not
06:05in the temperature window.

06:22on the brakes.
06:24And, yeah, we had to retire the car.

06:29of a clean quali,
06:31I would have liked to think
06:32we could have been fighting
06:33with the V-carbs,
06:35maybe Alpine as well, actually.
06:37We were quite competitive
06:38in Monaco.
06:39So, yeah, I was looking forward
06:41to that.
06:41But at the end,
06:42after a bad quali,
06:43you can't really come back at all.
06:45Do you think that potential
06:46you just talked about
06:47will translate here in Barcelona?
06:49I hope so.
06:50I think these last two weekends,
06:52you know, we bought
06:52this upgrade package
06:53to the car in Canada.
06:55Honestly, it's been really tough
06:56to optimise
06:58and, you know,
06:59get performance out of it.
07:00We managed to salvage a point
07:02in Canada,
07:02but only because of
07:03a lot of cars retiring.
07:06And then Monaco
07:07was tough as well
07:08for other reasons.
07:10You know,
07:11both of those circuits
07:12are very bumpy.
07:13You have to run the car
07:13in a very different way,
07:14let's say,
07:15to the rest of the year.
07:16So hopefully,
07:17we're going to come here.
07:18It's a more, you know,
07:20favourable track for us
07:21and hopefully,
07:21we can optimise
07:23the package that we have.

07:26learning a lot about this car
