00:36Субтитры сделал DimaTorzok
01:00It was in fact McLaren's Lando Norris
01:02That topped the times in FP2
01:04Is the McLaren threat real
01:06Or will Mercedes George Russell
01:07And his title leading teammate Kimi Antonelli
01:09Reassert themselves at the top
01:11In this last hour of practice
01:17Hello everybody and welcome to your
01:19Pre-FP3 show here
01:21On F1 TV
01:22We are in an absolutely sweltering paddock
01:25Here in Barcelona
01:26And we've expanded the panel a little bit today
01:29We have Callum Nicholas joining us again
01:31Pablo Montoya back as always
01:33But we have another Montoya joining us
01:35Sebastian, welcome to the show
01:36Yeah, thank you so much for having me
01:37Obviously here doing F2 duties this weekend
01:40Just walk us through a little bit
01:41About how your weekend's running
01:42Yeah, practice was really strong
01:44The thing here is that
01:45Since everyone knows Barcelona so well
01:47It's super tight
01:49So you really have to make sure
01:50You get it right in qualifying
01:52Which we didn't yesterday
01:54But we've made progress
01:55We've gone in the right direction
01:57Which is an important thing
01:58And around Barcelona
01:59Especially with the tire degradation
02:00And the heat this weekend
02:02It opens up some possibilities
02:03In the race for overtaking
02:05I'm not going to lie
02:05I love when a Montoya starts
02:07Far back in the field
02:08Because I know it's going to be spectacular
02:09Watching you come up through it
02:10But you mentioned the heat
02:11You mentioned the degradation
02:12I know that's something
02:13That the Formula 1 drivers
02:14Are battling with as well
02:15What is it about this racetrack
02:17That makes degradation such an issue
02:19And how does a driver manage that?
02:21Yeah, it comes a lot
02:22First of all from the temperature
02:23And then the high speed
02:24Obviously sector 1
02:25Being super demanding
02:26The last two corners
02:27Before the long straight
02:28You have to make sure you manage that
02:30Because then that will affect the traction
02:31So the quicker you go
02:32To the high speed corners
02:33The worst tire you're going to have
02:35For the middle section
02:35And then in sector 2
02:37If you don't get it right
02:38And you have very poor traction
02:39Then that compromises your position
02:41For the last sector
02:42And the run on the straight
02:42And then you put yourself
02:43In a situation where
02:45You're either attacking
02:46Or you have to defend
02:47Into turn 1
02:47And since turn 1
02:48Is such a big breaking zone
02:49It can make the difference
02:50Between overtaking
02:51Or being overtaken
02:52You're laughing, Dad
02:53What are you laughing at?
02:54I'm laughing
02:54He can talk a lot
02:56I thought you were saying
02:57Oh, I've taught this kid well
02:58No, he's doing a good job
03:00I think everybody wants to know
03:02How hard is it to work with the team
03:04And work with me?
03:05Am I a pain in the butt?
03:07I'm glad you asked it
03:08No, no, no
03:08I think everybody goes
03:09You know, everybody thinks
03:10Being my kid
03:12It makes it really hard
03:12Is it harder
03:13From what you see
03:14From everybody else?
03:15How does it work?
03:16I think it's a little different
03:18I think what people forget as well
03:19Is that it's always been like that for me
03:21So I have no real reference
03:23Against anyone else
03:23But everyone says
03:25No, your life is a little easier
03:26Because you have your dad
03:27And everything
03:28The problem is that
03:29Being someone's son
03:30Being your kid
03:31Especially with how hard
03:31You raced people back then
03:33They want to show me
03:34They can race like that
03:35So, no
03:37It comes from one side
03:39With people wanting to race you
03:40A little bit harder
03:41Because you're the son of
03:42And then from the other side
03:44You have a lot of people
03:46Looking at you
03:46So people always feel like
03:48They have something to say
03:50That someone hasn't said already
03:52If I'm doing good or bad
03:54It's funny
03:54I feel like you're having
03:55To cash checks
03:56That he wrote 20 years ago
03:58Exactly that
03:59Sometimes it feels like that
03:59Brutal
04:00Alright, so busy FP1 and FP2
04:02On the F1 side of things
04:03I know you're busy
04:04With your own stuff this weekend
04:05Have you kept track
04:06Of what's happening
04:07On the Formula 1 side?
04:08Yes, my dad
04:09He was really
04:10Even from Monaco last week
04:12He was telling me
04:13McLaren this weekend
04:14Is going to be in the fight
04:15And I went
04:16You can't be saying that
04:17They're 7th and 8th in Monaco
04:19Let's calm down
04:19And when Lando went first
04:22In FP2
04:23You just kind of go
04:23What happened there?
04:24I've been around long enough
04:25You have a little bit of experience
04:26Just a little bit
04:27But, yeah
04:28I'd say
04:29George has done a really good job
04:30This weekend
04:31Especially
04:32Kimi's been on fire
04:33And when you have a teammate
04:35So young
04:35And so competitive
04:36It's really hard to fight that
04:38Especially in the position
04:38That he's been
04:39You're in Williams
04:40Preparing your career
04:41You go to Mercedes
04:42Mercedes doesn't have
04:43The dominant car
04:44They have the championship winning car
04:45And you start the season
04:47So strong
04:47And then your teammate
04:48Gets all the momentum going
04:50It's a really difficult thing
04:51People don't understand
04:52That it's not a thing like
04:53Oh no, this weekend
04:53It's my weekend
04:54It doesn't work like that
04:55And you know
04:56Like
04:56If your teammates got it
04:58Trying to match that
04:59And beating them
05:00Is very difficult
05:01And seeing that
05:01From George this weekend
05:02I think is really cool
05:04Kimi's been on fire
05:05And then the McLarens
05:05This weekend being in the fight
05:06I think it's going to be
05:07Quite interesting
05:07We have a proper battle
05:08On our hands
05:09We're excited to watch it
05:10We're excited to watch you as well
05:11We're going to let you go
05:11Get prepared
05:12We know you've got
05:12Your sprint race coming up
05:13But best of luck
05:14For the rest of the weekend
05:15And Juan
05:16We're actually going to say
05:16Goodbye to you as well
05:17You're heading up to commentary
05:18You're going to be up in the booth
05:19For the session
05:20So Montoyas
05:21Thank you so much
05:22Thank you guys
05:22Really appreciate it
05:23We were talking about
05:24How Lando Norris
05:25Did top the times
05:26With the McLaren
05:27Let's hear from Randy Singh
05:28From the team
05:29What he said earlier today
05:31I think the general consensus
05:33After that is that
05:34It looks like McLaren
05:35Are back in the game again
05:36Is that Miami form
05:38You almost had
05:38Translated to here
05:39I think certainly
05:41Compared to the last couple
05:42Of events
05:42Which have been a bit more
05:43Of a struggle pace wise
05:44We seem to be back
05:45To where we were before
05:46It's always hard to tell
05:47On a Friday
05:48But we certainly seem to be
05:49Up there with the other
05:50Top teams
05:50Yeah
05:51What is working better
05:53Would you say here
05:54I think it's just
05:55A very different kind of circuit
05:57To what we've had
05:58In the last couple
05:59And even just the ambient conditions
06:00You know
06:01It's a lot hotter
06:02What we're dealing with here
06:03Is much more
06:04You know
06:04Things like the tyres
06:05Overheating and degrading
06:06Whereas the last couple of events
06:08It's been a lot more around
06:09Getting the tyres
06:10To work in the first place
06:11I mean
06:12That is an issue
06:13The degradation
06:15With the tyres
06:15One step softer
06:16It's a historic
06:17McLaren strength
06:18From last year
06:19Have you been able
06:21To rediscover that
06:22In this year's car now
06:24We've not really
06:24Had enough races
06:25This year
06:25To see if it's still
06:26A strength
06:27Like it's not clear
06:27That it will be
06:28But hopefully it will be
06:30And I think Sunday
06:31Is really going to come down
06:32To managing the deg
06:33And having good stint pace
06:34Thank you
06:35Perfect
06:35Thank you very much
06:36Thank you very much
06:39Thank you Craig Slater
06:40For chatting to
06:41Randy Singh
06:41From McLaren
06:42Some interesting notes
06:43There
06:43And some more
06:44Interesting notes
06:44I want to get
06:45With you on this
06:46Callum
06:46Is curfew
06:47Was broken by
06:48A few teams
06:49McLaren was one of them
06:50Alpine did a full
06:51Chassis change
06:52For Pierre Gasly
06:54Cadillac
06:54Took one as well
06:55To do a planned
06:56Engine change
06:57Not wanting to
06:57Have that bleed
06:59Into this morning
07:00Can focus on
07:00Their Saturday prep
07:01But then McLaren as well
07:03And the quote from the team
07:05Was the team
07:06Will replace permissible
07:07Sorry
07:07To carry out
07:08Precautionary work
07:09On both MCL40s
07:11The team will replace
07:11Permissible key components
07:13To help improve
07:14The robustness
07:15Of the installation
07:16And integration
07:16Of the power unit
07:18On both cars
07:18What?
07:19I mean that's a lot of words
07:21Isn't it?
07:21For those of us
07:22That haven't wrenched
07:23On Formula 1 cars
07:23For 10 years
07:24What does that mean?
07:25Well I mean
07:25Obviously
07:26Part of my role
07:27When I was at Rebel
07:28Was dealing with
07:29Engine systems
07:29Right
07:29So you have the power unit
07:31Obviously McLaren
07:32They take this
07:32As a customer
07:33From Mercedes
07:33And then there are
07:34A lot of ancillary systems
07:35That will be McLaren's parts
07:37And those are all the parts
07:38That integrate that power unit
07:39Into the chassis
07:40So it sounds to me
07:41Like they had some issues
07:42For bits from their side
07:43And like they said
07:44It's precautionary
07:45Right
07:46So it might have just been
07:46Things that they've seen
07:47And they say
07:48We're not sure about this
07:49Over a race distance
07:50We need to make something
07:51We need to do something
07:52About it now
07:52So it sounds like
07:53That's what they've been up to
07:53At McLaren
07:55You know
07:55It's kind of one of these things
07:56About being a customer team
07:58Is that there might be things
07:59That are just slightly
07:59Out of your control
08:00And you end up
08:02Doing things like that
08:02And breaking a curfew
08:04Absolutely
08:04And one of the things
08:05I want to get your opinion
08:06On as well
08:06Is this strategy
08:07From Cadillac
08:08To burn a joker
08:09To do a planned engine change
08:11Which normally you could
08:11Sort of break up over
08:12Yesterday evening
08:13And this morning
08:14But wanting to make sure
08:15There were no issues on that
08:16How do you view
08:16That move from Cadillac
08:17Well I mean
08:18First of all
08:18It's quite rare now
08:19For teams to do
08:21A Friday night engine change
08:22You know
08:22This was very very common
08:23When I started in the sport
08:24You'd have a Friday engine
08:25In gearbox
08:26And then you'd have
08:27A race engine in gearbox
08:28That you would fit
08:28But with the curfews now
08:30It's sort of something
08:30That most teams
08:31Have abandoned anyway
08:33But you know
08:33I kind of understand
08:34Why Cadillac
08:35If they had this plan
08:36Changed
08:36And teams do do it
08:37From time to time
08:38We talk about in Monaco
08:39Teams will always
08:40Try and use their
08:41Oldest engines
08:42So perhaps they were like
08:43We can get this
08:43Through a practice
08:44And then fit a new one
08:45That's in our pool
08:46So it's one of those things
08:47I kind of understand
08:49Why they've chosen
08:49To break a curfew
08:51To do it
08:51Because in this new set
08:53Of regs
08:53Procedures
08:54All of these things
08:55Are kind of new to everyone
08:56So it kind of
08:57They just felt
08:58That at this time
08:58It's better for us
08:59To make sure
08:59That we're squared up
09:00And ready to roll out
09:01The door for FP3
09:02Than drag things on
09:03Into the morning
09:04Because these mornings
09:04Are short now
09:05And they are busy
09:06Yeah and one of the things
09:07That they said
09:08Was that they actually
09:09Got it done faster
09:09Than they anticipated
09:10So improvement on the
09:11Procedural stuff
09:12There from Cadillac
09:13Pirelli have decided
09:15To bring one step
09:15Softer in the tires
09:17This weekend
09:17And it has definitely
09:18Thrown teams and drivers
09:19For a little bit
09:20Of a loop
09:21We're going to throw
09:22Now to Alex
09:22For a little bit more
09:23On some of the deg
09:23That we're seeing
09:25Thank you James
09:26Yeah it was
09:27Defining yesterday
09:28In that
09:30Pirelli expected it
09:31We saw that
09:32They increased
09:33The tire pressures
09:34By 3 PSI
09:36For the rear tires
09:38But what that means
09:39In practical terms
09:40Is the drivers
09:41Are just running
09:42Out of tires
09:42Very very quickly
09:43The rubber was
09:44Chunking off
09:45And the reason why
09:46Is the long radius corners
09:48That you were looking
09:49At a few moments ago
09:50I'm talking corners
09:51Like turn 3
09:52Turn 4
09:53Turn 5
09:54The climb up the hill
09:55To turn 9
09:56That is stressing
09:57The rubber
09:58In a way
09:59That really
10:00Really
10:01Challenges the teams
10:02What it could mean
10:03Is a complete
10:04Upending
10:05Of our usual order
10:07We've gone from
10:08Slow speed demands
10:09Of Monaco
10:09To medium and high
10:11Speed demands
10:12In Spain
10:13And it could
10:14Give us something
10:15Totally different
10:16This weekend
10:17At least we hope so
10:18At a wonderful
10:19Wonderful venue
10:23So in practice terms
10:24That meant that
10:25Oli Behrman
10:26Was saying
10:26There is no chance
10:28For a bailout lap
10:29There will be no
10:30Lock up at turn 1
10:32Or lock up at turn 5
10:33Do a couple of
10:35Cool laps
10:35And recover the tyre
10:37Pirelli have said
10:38That if you spike it
10:39If you go for that
10:40Push lap
10:41If you get it
10:42In the working window
10:43There will be no
10:44Recovery
10:45Afterwards
10:45So it effectively
10:47Lends you to
10:48One push lap
10:49That is going to
10:50Put the pressure
10:51On this
10:52Qualifying simulation
10:53Through the roof
10:54Because you've got
10:55To be able to
10:56Get into a
10:56Comfortable place
10:57Where you know
10:58The references
10:59There is no
11:00Insurance option
11:01To go again
11:03You're looking down
11:04At Cadillac
11:04You've heard that
11:05They've made a
11:05Planned engine change
11:07Interesting insight
11:08As well from
11:09Callum
11:09That that's a little
11:10Bit of an old
11:10School approach
11:11Three teams
11:12Breaking the curfew
11:14We had Cadillac
11:15Doing it
11:15We had Alpine
11:16Doing it
11:16I doubt they
11:17Mind after they
11:18Claimed that
11:19Third place trophy
11:20For the Monaco
11:21Grand Prix
11:21And found out
11:22A couple of days
11:23Later
11:23And McLaren
11:24As well
11:25Precautionary
11:26Measures
11:26Is interesting
11:27To me
11:27Because remember
11:28How affected
11:29They have been
11:30By reliability
11:32In 2026
11:33So far
11:34In comparison
11:35To say
11:36Kimi Antonelli
11:36Of the works team
11:37Who hasn't had
11:38A single issue
11:39When it comes
11:40To reliability
11:41So far
11:42That is a
11:42That is a key
11:43Difference
11:43That is a key
11:44Contrast
11:45Between customer
11:45Team
11:46With McLaren
11:46And full works
11:47Team
11:48With Mercedes
11:49Alex Alvin
11:51With a glorious
11:52Lid
11:52For the Spanish
11:54Grand Prix
11:54Where he will
11:55Become
11:55On Sunday
11:56Williams
11:56Longest tenured
11:57Driver
11:58Behind the wheel
11:59Going past
11:59Nigel Mantle
12:29Back here
12:33And the other
12:34And the other
12:37And the other
12:38Is a great
12:54Is a great
12:55Is a great
12:59Is a great
12:59To do that
12:59Testing
13:00So you might
13:00Just say
13:00Well
13:01Look, even if it's not this week perfect, this is where we want to get the data for it,
13:04so we can look at the rest of the season.
13:05It's so hot today and cooling, not just with brakes, but with the cars themselves, a huge issue.
13:11Qualifying, you've got to set your cooling for the race.
13:13How do teams balance what they want to run in today's conditions,
13:16but predicting what's going to be happening for tomorrow?
13:18Well, it's where team simulations will come really into play
13:20and hopefully do their job and give them a good idea.
13:23Obviously, the other thing that teams are balancing is where you expect to qualify.
13:27Because if you know you're going to put it on the front row or near the front,
13:29the challenge isn't quite as big as if you know you're going to be down in the 12th, 13th, 15th,
13:34you know,
13:35because following that trail of cars is killer.
13:37So we'll see how they come up with those solutions.
13:39It must be so tough for the guys.
13:40All right, what are we looking out for?
13:41Who do you think is going to come out on top of this session heading into qualifying?
13:45Do you know what? I'm going to take a wild punt,
13:47and I think that one of the McLarens might steal a pole here.
13:49All right, so we already have the pole prediction ahead of FP3.
13:53We'll see if McLaren can, in fact, keep the pace up in this final hour of practice.
13:57All right, guys, the temperatures continue to rise here.
14:01That means that the pressure is also continuing to rise
14:04as we build towards that qualifying this afternoon.
14:06So important here.
14:08We've got a great crew for you.
14:10We've got Luke Browning joining us trackside.
14:12Of course, Callum is going to be in pit lane.
14:14Juan Montoya is up in the box with Alex Jakes,
14:17who we will head to now for FP3.
14:19Callum Jakes says goи.
14:21Speaking to be mild weather,
14:44Thank you.
14:48МУЗЫКАЛЬНАЯ ЗАСТАВКА
15:15Good afternoon, everyone.
15:17Welcome back to the circuit of Barcelona,
15:19where it is time to start qualifying day
15:22with one last hour of practice before we set the grid.
15:26A very open session yesterday
15:27as everyone tries to hang on to their tires.
15:31It is round seven of the season in Barcelona.
15:33This is the configuration.
15:35First used for Formula One in 1991.
15:38We will have 66 laps on Sunday.
15:412.8 miles, 4.6 kilometers.
15:43You've got the active aero zones everywhere.
15:46You look around this place.
15:47In contrast to last week,
15:48the single overtake detection point is at the final corner,
15:52turn 14 of the racetrack.
15:54A little bit of undulation on the way up to turn 9,
15:57and a sweeping final couple of corners.
16:00It's taking a lot out of these tires.
16:02We've gone one step softer,
16:04and the teams are feeling it.
16:06C4, C3, C2 tires available for the teams this weekend.
16:10And they were not lasting yesterday,
16:13but they've had some Friday homework.
16:14And as we begin qualifying Saturday,
16:17this session will give us an idea of who's taking a step forward
16:20and who is still struggling to keep the Pirelli rubber in.
16:25Remember, when Formula One began in 2026,
16:28it was here in chilly temperatures.
16:31The track temperature now is 46 degrees.
16:34The air temperature is 31.
16:35The grandstands are packed,
16:37and this is a venue of expectation at the moment
16:40because McLaren were quick yesterday.
16:43And the team that traditionally kept their tires in
16:46will be hoping that trait has carried over into 2026,
16:51like we saw with 2024.
16:53All those suspicions in 2024 and 2025.
16:57Randy Singh saying before that they don't know.
17:00They simply haven't been to enough venues
17:02that have stressed the tires like this one will
17:05to know whether that trade has continued,
17:07even though the rule set,
17:08the regulation change is totally different.
17:11I'm Alex Jakes,
17:12and alongside me in the commentary box
17:14is Juan Pablo Montoya.
17:16Juan Pablo, this is going to be a session
17:18where we get some answers
17:20because yesterday did not go to the script
17:22that we've seen so far this season.
17:24Yeah, it's a little different.
17:27And to a point,
17:28you've got to say Mercedes is still there.
17:30They're still looking good.
17:31But McLaren looked rather close.
17:35Like, you've got to say McLaren looked really, really strong.
17:38Oscar was pretty close as well,
17:40that it was really important.
17:41You know what I mean?
17:42I think did Antonelli, by missing that first session,
17:46was he a little bit behind?
17:48We have to wait and see this morning
17:49because you would have never thought,
17:52the reason people come and put the young guys in Barcelona
17:55is because it's an easier truck,
17:58a truck that everybody knows.
17:59So not running here,
18:00you would have thought it would have made a difference,
18:02but it seemed it did.
18:04Yeah.
18:04Having to get up to speed.
18:07George Russell, Oscar Piastri,
18:08Charles Leclerc, Max Verstappen,
18:09and Leo Fornaroli
18:11were the top five in first-time practice.
18:13We had six rookies in the field,
18:16six drivers who have not started
18:18a Formula One Grand Prix,
18:20four times in an FP1 all year.
18:23That will happen.
18:24When we move to second practice,
18:25it was Lando Norris ahead of George Russell,
18:28then Oscar Piastri,
18:29Charles Leclerc,
18:29and Kimi Antonelli,
18:31who one was just talking about a moment ago.
18:33He found himself half a second off the pace.
18:37He is our championship leader
18:38by 66 points to Lewis Hamilton.
18:42And in third place in the standings
18:44is George Russell,
18:45who has made the strong start to the weekend
18:47that realistically he needed one.
18:57The crowd here.
18:59Always great.
19:00Always really, really enjoying things
19:03and we're seeing it once again.
19:05Valtteri Bottas is the first car
19:08at the end of the pit lane.
19:10He's got the soft tyres on the car
19:12and he is queued up.
19:13Cadillac breaking the curfew last night
19:16and keen to get out there
19:18to make sure that everything's OK,
19:19to go through the systems checks.
19:22And we have a green light
19:23at the end of the pit lane.
19:26Here we go then for practice three
19:27at a circuit, as you've heard from Juan,
19:30that all the teams know well,
19:32but different temperatures
19:33and extreme temperatures
19:35with long radius corners
19:36is going to provide a different challenge
19:37in a season
19:38that Kimi Antonelli has dominated so far.
19:41156 points.
19:43We spoke to him yesterday
19:44on the broadcast
19:45when he had to sit out FP1.
19:47He's got the cool vest on
19:48and Nico Hülkenberg was the driver
19:51saying you can't really do anything
19:53when the track temperature is at 50 degrees.
19:56He's at 46 at the moment, Juan Pablo.
19:58He was saying
19:59that you just don't really have any feel
20:01behind the wheel
20:02in terms of overall grip
20:03and every time we went on board
20:05with an Audi yesterday,
20:06they seemed to just be chasing it
20:08and waiting for the grip.
20:10I think everybody was chasing it yesterday.
20:12something you're going to see today
20:15is I think people are going to be limited on tires
20:18because most of the places we go to
20:21and we've been going to,
20:22you can do, you know,
20:23two, three laps out of a set of tires
20:25and still get a good reference.
20:27Barcelona, it seems to be one lap and done.
20:30So you look at most of the drivers
20:32are still in the cool vest
20:34and everything just chilling
20:35and they're going to be chilling for a while.
20:38I bet you we're going to
20:39probably 20, 25 minutes
20:41before the first car starts
20:42putting a proper lap time on the board.
20:46You're going to have to do some work then, Juan Pablo.
20:49We'll get some on-board laps
20:50and we'll get you to talk our audience
20:52around this racetrack as well.
20:55For an FP3 like that,
20:57when you go with a couple of laps
20:59and you can have a go in Montreal,
21:01you can get, you know,
21:02Charles Leclerc went for three push laps
21:03in Q3 in Monaco
21:06and then suddenly you come
21:07to what is essentially one push lap
21:09on the soft tire.
21:11Does that change your approach
21:12for this final practice session?
21:14For your reference points,
21:15for your understanding of the car?
21:17But what changes
21:18that makes it really interesting
21:19is you can tell who's struggling
21:21and who's good.
21:23You can see Lewis is sitting in the car
21:25and he had a tough practice.
21:26The Astons are in the car
21:28and the Caligarchs are on track.
21:30But you look at the Mercedes,
21:31you look at the McLarens,
21:32they're, you know,
21:33they're taking a chill
21:34and a chill pill today.
21:35There's no rush.
21:37Like, this is going to be
21:38wait for the end of the session,
21:40you know, do a couple of laps,
21:41maybe do a lap on new tires,
21:44come in, see how it is.
21:46If you make a small adjustment,
21:47get a bit of a read of the car
21:49and the used tires,
21:49go back to new tires
21:50and pretty much call it a day
21:53because you're going to need
21:53those tires in qualifying.
21:56Qualifying that in recent times
21:58has been dominated by McLaren.
22:00They took pole here
22:00in the last couple of years.
22:02Oscar Piastri last.
22:02The year before that
22:03was Lando Norris.
22:04Before that, Max Verstappen.
22:06The year before in 2022,
22:08Charles Leclerc,
22:09where it looked like Ferrari
22:10were mounting a championship charge.
22:12And before that,
22:13the Mercedes era.
22:14And they were dominant around here.
22:17Nico Rosberg taking pole in 2013
22:20and then it was just endless.
22:21Mercedes drivers at the front
22:23all the way through
22:24to Lewis Hamilton in 2021.
22:27So it was once
22:28a Mercedes happy hunting ground.
22:30They'll be hoping
22:31that they can continue
22:32their early form
22:33as we see Bottas go over the line,
22:36getting a bit of screen time,
22:37never a bad idea.
22:38But ultimately,
22:39after those engine changes,
22:40they want to see
22:41whether things are working.
22:42Systems check for them.
22:44And in a straight fight,
22:45it's Valtteri Bottas
22:46who puts a 1.19.9 on the board.
22:49But it wasn't a straight fight,
22:50actually.
22:50It was a soft tire for Valtteri.
22:51It was a medium tire
22:52for Sergio Perez.
22:55Valtteri Bottas
22:56who has been on pole
22:57around this circuit
22:58in the past.
22:59He was the driver
23:00who led the line
23:01in 2019.
23:03Wasn't able
23:03to convert it to victory,
23:04but he does have 10
23:05in his Formula One career.
23:08Estevan Ocon
23:09in conversation
23:10with his engineer
23:10Laura Muller.
23:11And you see Alex Albon
23:13who starts this weekend
23:1415th in the Drivers' Championship,
23:16but he will take
23:17a little bit of
23:18Williams' history
23:19if he can take the lights.
23:21There's no guarantee
23:22given what we've seen
23:23so far this season.
23:25But if he can take the lights,
23:26he goes past
23:27Nigel Mantle's record
23:28of starts for Williams.
23:30We touched on this
23:31a little bit yesterday,
23:33Juan Pablo,
23:33but you raced,
23:35you made an instant impact
23:36in Formula One
23:37with the Williams team.
23:38How were they
23:39in contrast to,
23:40say, McLaren,
23:41which is the other team
23:42that you raced for
23:43in Formula One?
23:44But you've got to remember
23:45the McLaren
23:46that I raced for
23:47is the McLaren today.
23:48It was the,
23:49you know,
23:49it was the run
23:50Dennis McLaren.
23:51It was,
23:51everything was
23:52super structured.
23:54It was,
23:55I mean,
23:55you look at Mercedes today
23:56and you think
23:57Mercedes is very structured
23:58and organized
23:59and rigid
24:00and you can multiply
24:01that by 100
24:02and then you get
24:03the run Dennis McLaren
24:04that,
24:05you know,
24:05they delivered.
24:06They got the job done,
24:07but it was,
24:08you know,
24:08you went from,
24:10like,
24:10the Williams
24:10is like a family.
24:12It was,
24:12everybody is happy together.
24:14They all work together.
24:15Like,
24:15it's very different.
24:16And then it's like
24:18you're,
24:19you go,
24:19you went from
24:20working at home,
24:21you know,
24:21home office
24:22to,
24:22you know,
24:23a CEO office.
24:25So more corporate setup.
24:28Is it fair to say
24:29that you enjoyed
24:29the Williams setup more?
24:31I enjoyed both.
24:32They were both a challenge.
24:33They were both
24:34in a different way.
24:37At the end of the day,
24:38I don't know.
24:39Williams was,
24:40I always felt
24:41that it was,
24:42it was like a,
24:43like I thought,
24:44like I always felt
24:45being part of the family
24:46at Williams,
24:47where in McLaren
24:48was,
24:48was a little different.
24:49In McLaren,
24:50it was,
24:51it was all down to business.
24:53A fascinating contrast
24:55between two of Formula 1's giants.
24:57McLaren coming off
24:58the back of their
24:591,000th race
25:01in Monaco,
25:0260 years after
25:03they first entered.
25:04Williams with a landmark here
25:06on a genuinely
25:07extraordinary day
25:08of Formula 1
25:08back in 2012.
25:10Pastor Maldonado
25:12taking his only win
25:14Lewis Hamilton
25:15chucked out
25:16of qualifying.
25:18I think it was fuel.
25:20I'm doing that
25:20off the top of my head.
25:21He was chucked
25:21out of qualifying.
25:23Pastor Maldonado
25:24elevated to pole position
25:25and converted
25:26the chance for victory
25:27with Fernando Alonso
25:29tucked right
25:29underneath him
25:31for such a long time.
25:32A genuinely
25:33remarkable
25:34sporting upset.
25:35Maldonado's
25:35only win
25:36and Williams'
25:38last win
25:38in 2012.
25:40They had a good car
25:41in 2014.
25:42Felipe Massa
25:44Valtteri Bottas
25:45could have changed that
25:46and they do have
25:47the grand plan
25:48with James Fowles
25:48at the helm
25:49of that team
25:50to get back
25:50to the front.
25:51This regulation set
25:52was one that they were
25:53targeting
25:54for a big step forward
25:55but it has been
25:57an overweight start
25:58you have to say
25:59for Williams
25:59so far this year.
26:00They're shedding
26:01the weight as they go
26:02and they're also
26:02trying to find
26:03performance
26:03at the same time.
26:05So they could just
26:06bring weight saving
26:07measures to the car
26:08but then everyone else
26:09is developing performance.
26:10So they're chasing both
26:11which is a harder task
26:13for the team
26:15that had their last win
26:16around this circuit.
26:18It is
26:18as Juan Pablo
26:19suggested
26:20a slightly sleepy start
26:21to FP3
26:23here in Barcelona
26:24with the track temperature
26:25at 48 degrees now
26:27and the air temperature
26:28at 31.
26:29You're looking at
26:29the hill there
26:30at turns
26:31seven and eight
26:35and Sergio Perez
26:37is heading out there.
26:38Went to go and watch
26:38the start of the Grand Prix
26:40in my old GP2
26:41commentary days
26:41Juan Pablo
26:42went to go and watch
26:42the start of the Grand Prix
26:43there in 2016
26:46and expected to see
26:47the Mercedes
26:48come around the corner
26:48and instead I just saw
26:49everyone stand up
26:50and celebrate
26:51and instead
26:52Daniel Ricciardo
26:53came by
26:53in the lead.
26:55He did not keep it.
26:56Max Verstappen's
26:57breakthrough day
26:57happening at this circuit
26:59in 2016.
27:00Such was the Mercedes
27:01dominance of that era
27:02any other winner
27:04was cheered
27:05by the crowd.
27:06It feels like
27:08it's a long time ago
27:09though
27:09even though
27:10Mercedes have
27:11re-established themselves
27:12at the start
27:13of this season.
27:15Yeah, Mercedes
27:16had such a long run
27:17of wins
27:18and wins
27:18and wins
27:19and you know
27:22most of the people
27:22always end up
27:23cheering for the
27:24underdog.
27:25You know,
27:26you always want
27:26the underdog to win.
27:27You don't want
27:28the guy that always
27:29wins to keep winning.
27:31So this is going
27:32to be interesting
27:32with Antonelli
27:33because the Antonelli
27:35thing,
27:35everybody's really
27:35excited about it
27:36but if he keeps winning
27:38are people still
27:38going to be happy?
27:39Oh, don't do that
27:41Sergio Perez.
27:42Looks like a handful.
27:44But you see
27:44and you know
27:46first sector
27:46looked good
27:47it was looking good
27:48but it just
27:48it seems like
27:49the tire
27:50just can't
27:51they can't keep
27:51the tire underneath
27:52the car
27:53it's going to be
27:54a challenge.
27:54So will they be
27:56looking at it
27:56and go
27:57hmm
27:57is the medium
27:58maybe a way
27:59to go and qualify
28:00because we can
28:01get more out of it?
28:03You know what I mean?
28:03Can we make the
28:04soft tires survive?
28:05Because that's going
28:06to be a big challenge.
28:08Yeah, it certainly
28:08will be.
28:10Looked up the quotes
28:12of the Pirelli
28:14chief engineer
28:15after that
28:16on that question
28:17he believes that
28:18both
28:18this is Simone
28:19Berra
28:20from Pirelli
28:21he believes
28:21both the C4
28:22and the C3
28:23both
28:24of those compounds
28:25would only be good enough
28:26for one push lap.
28:28So
28:28they're not miles away
28:30the compounds
28:31from each other
28:32compared to
28:33if we went
28:34to the harder end
28:35of the Pirelli
28:36compound range.
28:37So there's no
28:38there's no chance
28:39like we saw a couple
28:40of times last year
28:41for maybe a medium lap.
28:42It is more durable
28:43but not by enough.
28:44So Pirelli believe
28:45that both the soft
28:46and the medium
28:46are single lap tires
28:48was the direct quote.
28:50And
28:50there's no
28:51there's no strategic
28:52option there
28:52like there might
28:53have been
28:53at different venues
28:55if you think back
28:57a few
28:58a few
28:58yeah
28:59back to last season
29:00the Aston Martins
29:01for example
29:01able to get through
29:02on a medium tire
29:03into Q3
29:04in a way that
29:05others missed out on
29:06on the soft rubber.
29:08So Pirelli don't believe
29:09that's going to be possible
29:10but this has been
29:10a season of upended
29:12expectations
29:14and
29:14our team in the gallery
29:16are showing
29:16every view
29:17they possibly can
29:18of this circuit
29:19where Nigel Mansell
29:21was the first winner
29:22and we've been talking
29:22about Mansell's record
29:23and Alex Albin
29:24is running
29:25his helmet colors
29:27by way of tribute
29:28this weekend
29:2914 turns
29:30there was an era
29:31where they introduced
29:32a fiddly little chicane
29:33that the drivers
29:34really were not
29:35a fan of
29:35and we've had
29:37some good races
29:38because the overtaking
29:39opportunity has been
29:40increased
29:40down to turn one
29:42as a result of that
29:43chicane being removed
29:44as Hulkenberg
29:44proved last year
29:45when he got past
29:47Lewis Hamilton
29:48on a fine drive
29:49to the points
29:50which is something
29:50Sauber last year
29:52were not used
29:53used to at all
29:54but one this place
29:55has always had a reputation
29:56for being tricky
29:57to overtake
29:58it seems to be
30:00always tricky
30:01but since they went
30:02back to the
30:03old layout
30:03in the last two corners
30:05I think that improved
30:06a little bit
30:07and I think we're going
30:08to see a little more
30:09passing this year
30:10especially
30:10with the degradation
30:11being some high
30:12you're going to see
30:13some people
30:14at the beginning
30:14of the race
30:15pushing
30:15and looking
30:16like oh my god
30:17they're so strong
30:18and then 10 laps later
30:19they're going to go
30:20oh my god
30:20I can't drive my car
30:21and this is terrible
30:23and this is going
30:24to be a handful
30:24what do you guys did
30:25you screw up
30:26and you know
30:27I mean
30:27we're going to see
30:28a lot of drama
30:28and I would assume
30:31Nico is not that happy
30:32with the car
30:32to run this early
30:33and normally
30:35it gets to a point
30:36it's like oh
30:36we got to try this
30:37we got to try this
30:38and we got to try this
30:39because remember
30:39this is the last time
30:40they really have to
30:41adjust the car
30:42for the race weekend
30:44so this is it
30:45it's like
30:46so we're going to try
30:47this this and that
30:47we want to do
30:48three or four runs
30:49and we got to have
30:50enough time to look at them
30:52so at this point
30:52they go okay
30:53we waited a little bit
30:54we got to go
30:55and now everybody's waiting
30:57but we're going to see
30:58I would say
30:59in about 8-10 more minutes
31:01also
31:01and everybody's going to go
31:03and there's not going to be
31:04you know
31:05we're going to have traffic
31:06and out of control
31:06and as we see
31:08Nico start in the lap
31:11yeah he predicted
31:12it was going to be
31:12a degradation fest
31:14on Sunday
31:15a deg fest
31:15is the exact quote
31:17that he said
31:17after practice yesterday
31:20and in very hot conditions
31:22if you have a 50 centigrade
31:24track temperature
31:25it never feels great
31:26because it's just too hot
31:27for anything
31:27but you've got to go out there
31:29and you've got to find a balance
31:30and Audi
31:31like everyone
31:32were really struggling
31:33but it was very tentative
31:35fingertip stuff
31:36when we went visor cam
31:37with the drivers
31:39this is nose cam
31:40with Nico Hülkenberg
31:41who's heading
31:42to turns 7 and 8
31:44one public
31:45yep
31:46good braking
31:48and it was something
31:49we noticed
31:49he's on the medium tyre
31:50so he's for sure
31:51trying stuff on the car
31:53it looks a little more stable
31:55it seems like they
31:56stabilised a lot
31:57of the rear of the car
31:58but it seems like
31:58it's kind of struggling
32:00to complete the corner
32:01look
32:01it comes in
32:02it turns
32:02and oh
32:03they took it out
32:03but it's like
32:04it's just
32:05very very lazy
32:07getting in
32:07it's like
32:07you see
32:08it turns
32:08and it's like
32:10I've got to wait
32:11you see
32:11it just doesn't
32:12complete the corner
32:16it's easy to laugh
32:17at the commentary box
32:17isn't it
32:18there's a driver
32:18who's been there
32:19and done that
32:19in Formula 1
32:20seven times
32:20a Grand Prix winner
32:21Juan Pablo Montoya
32:22with us
32:23in the commentary box
32:24he is trackside
32:26at the circuit
32:27I'm talking to you
32:28from the media
32:28and technology centre
32:29and Hülkenberg
32:30has found a better balance
32:31with the car
32:32and it's a
32:331.18.477
32:35only three times
32:36on the board
32:37everyone waiting
32:37for the track
32:39to be at its best
32:40at the end
32:40of the session
32:41there's Matteo
32:41Benotto
32:42the CEO
32:43and team principal
32:44at Audi
32:45he's got a new
32:46head of the sporting department
32:48in Alan McNish
32:50who joined mid-season
32:51Jonathan Wheatley
32:52taking a step back
32:53from that team
32:54having moved there
32:55after an unbelievable
32:56period of success
32:58with Red Bull
32:59accruing titles
33:01in his time
33:02with the team
33:03with Sebastian Vettel
33:04and with Max Verstappen
33:06and it feels like
33:08we're getting to that
33:08stage of practice
33:09on this day
33:10in 1976
33:12Jody Schechter
33:13won the Swedish Grand Prix
33:15the only win
33:16by a six-wheel car
33:18in F1 history
33:20and Juan Pablo
33:21he absolutely hated
33:22the idea
33:23when he was presented
33:23with it
33:24he was told
33:26you're going to be
33:26driving the six-wheeler
33:27and he was not a fan
33:29yeah it was kind of interesting
33:31I love those cars
33:32because people were
33:33inventing ways
33:34to make it better
33:35how can we make it
33:36turn more
33:37how we can make it
33:37things
33:38and I remember
33:39Williams came out
33:40with a six-wheel
33:41but it was
33:42four wheels in the back
33:43not in the front
33:44to get the extra traction
33:45and the smaller tires
33:46and that got banned
33:47this is the crazy thing
33:48somebody comes with an idea
33:49and they let it
33:50and then somebody comes
33:51with a way smarter idea
33:52and they go
33:52oh no that's too much
33:56you know the rules
33:57used to be so open
33:58back in the day
33:58it's like you could
33:59reinvent the wheel
34:00where now it's like
34:02you know
34:03you have so much
34:04technology to go
34:04this is the box
34:05don't go out of this box
34:07and the boxes
34:07are pretty small
34:09what had happened
34:10with that
34:10is that Cosworth
34:11had basically brought
34:13for all of
34:14the non-works teams
34:15an engine
34:16that was so strong
34:17the famous
34:18DFV engine
34:19and it basically meant
34:20that the engine
34:21gains
34:23were null and void
34:24because it was the
34:25obvious package
34:26for customer teams
34:27to have
34:27so you got
34:28these incredible designs
34:30purely because
34:32they were all
34:33basically even
34:34with the engine
34:35so they were all
34:36looking for
34:36any way
34:37and as you say
34:39the innovation
34:39of that era
34:40Brabham turned up
34:42with a giant fan
34:42on the back of the car
34:43which sucked it
34:44to the ground
34:44and imagine
34:46imagine
34:48Sam Collins
34:49his tech hit
34:50if a team
34:51brought a six
34:52wheeler
34:52that would have
34:53been something
34:53to behold
34:54in 1976
34:55and you know
34:56what Jody Schechter
34:57he was shown
34:58the design
34:59he wasn't happy
35:00with it
35:00his teammate
35:01at the time
35:02his Tyrell teammate
35:03went out
35:04and went quicker
35:04and he's like
35:05no actually
35:05I've changed my mind
35:06I will have that
35:06six wheeler
35:07and he won the race
35:08in what was
35:09a Tyrell 1-2
35:11and they
35:11banished the doubters
35:13with a famous victory
35:14in Sweden
35:15that is crazy
35:17you know what I mean
35:17how do you know
35:18all that story
35:19how do you
35:19it's like
35:20you have
35:20you have a memory
35:21you can remember
35:22everything
35:23it's unbelievable
35:24do you read a lot
35:26or
35:26I wrote a book
35:27on it last year
35:28so it's kind of cheating
35:29isn't it
35:29it's kind of cheating
35:31there we go
35:32there we go
35:33but I love that story
35:35and I love the innovation
35:36and I like the idea
35:37that
35:37you know
35:38you turn up
35:39and McLaren have stuck
35:40a giant fan
35:41on the back of the car
35:42and
35:42you know
35:43you go to the
35:44that was a couple of years
35:45after
35:45the six wheeler
35:47but they couldn't see
35:48the tyres out of the front
35:50one
35:50so they had to put
35:51little portholes
35:52so they could see
35:53the wheels
35:54through the chassis
35:56it's a classic
35:57it's an all time classic
35:58the only reason
35:59they abandoned it
36:00because
36:01the smaller tyres
36:02no one developed the rubber
36:04so
36:05they just had
36:06ancient
36:06like previous years
36:08rubber on the car
36:08everyone else had the latest
36:10tyre brand
36:11manufactured tyre
36:13and as a result
36:14they had to abandon it
36:16not because it wasn't effective
36:17but because they were running
36:18old rubber
36:19talking of new rubber
36:20Pirelli
36:21have extended their deal
36:22and they will be the sole supplier
36:24for Formula 1
36:25let's listen in to Holcomb
36:28that's quite a bit of
36:29we'll spin off the line
36:30that's a bit of story
36:31their season
36:32hasn't it
36:32one
36:32the Audi's
36:33have built their own
36:35power unit
36:36very difficult thing to do
36:38as we've seen
36:39from some others
36:40with this new regulation set
36:41they've built their own chassis
36:42developed from a pretty
36:43decent facility
36:44in Switzerland
36:45they've also got a base
36:47in Germany as well
36:48they've done a solid job
36:49but getting off the line
36:51they have very much
36:52struggled with
36:53I want to get a
36:55trackside view now
36:56there's not much out there
36:58Luke Browning
36:59you're not having the easiest weekend
37:00when it comes
37:01to your job
37:02we've got one car
37:03out there for you
37:06thank you Alex
37:07yes
37:07quite
37:08quite quiet
37:09this afternoon
37:10in FP3
37:11but
37:12it should be
37:13quite an exciting one
37:14FP3 often
37:15for the drivers
37:16is where
37:16qualifying time
37:17is going to be laid down
37:19looking over my shoulder
37:20here
37:20Audi
37:21have actually been
37:22quite strong this weekend
37:23especially through FP2
37:24obviously Paul Aaron
37:25had a good FP1 as well
37:27the medium speed corners
37:28seem to be
37:29suiting them quite well
37:29which has been interesting
37:30and
37:31a slightly different view
37:32to the one that you had
37:33through the windscreen
37:34last weekend
37:34wasn't it Alex
37:35I took Alex on a little
37:36hot lap around Monaco
37:37but talking about
37:38the differences between
37:39Monaco and Barcelona
37:40coming here this weekend
37:41it's very very different
37:42drivers talking about
37:44couldn't get the tyres in
37:45doing as much warmth
37:46as they could
37:47in Monaco
37:48now coming here
37:4931 degrees
37:50of air temp
37:51and
37:51yeah
37:52struggling with overheating
37:53in the last sector
37:54and getting it in
37:55it couldn't be easier
37:56so
37:57yeah
37:57very very different
37:58challenge here
37:59but also
38:00with the energy
38:01it seems to be
38:01quite a difficult weekend
38:03overall here
38:04not only for the race run
38:05but for qualifying
38:06it seems to be quite difficult
38:07to get the speed up
38:08on the straights
38:09and there goes Sainz
38:13that Williams car
38:14looks good in the sun
38:15doesn't it
38:15no bias there at all
38:17but yeah
38:18it's great to be here
38:18trackside
38:19and I think
38:20as Alex comes through
38:24it's the 100th race
38:27for Alex this weekend
38:28which is fantastic
38:30obviously wearing
38:32obviously wearing
38:33Mantle's helmet
38:34but yeah
38:34back to you in the studio
38:36thank you very much
38:37Luke
38:37very much
38:39appreciate
38:39the hot lap
38:41we did a couple
38:41of hot laps
38:42in Monaco
38:44and
38:45it was very
38:46very enjoyable
38:47experience
38:47and after that moment
38:49poor old Luke
38:50didn't get any
38:51running in FP1
38:52yesterday
38:52like he was meant to
38:53there was a connector
38:54issue with the car
38:55but we did at least
38:57have the Williams
38:57going past him
38:58from the trackside view
38:59what was your question
39:00what?
39:01does that count
39:03as a young driver day
39:05as a development day
39:07even if the guy
39:08didn't do a lap
39:09he doesn't get
39:10the super license point
39:12but it does
39:13go towards the team
39:15yeah it counts
39:15because they entered him
39:16in the session
39:17so
39:19I believe so
39:20anyway
39:20we'll do a quick check
39:22on that
39:22but I believe
39:23that that's the case
39:25Signs has been saying
39:26he's got
39:27it feels like
39:28he's got low power
39:29on the radio
39:29Lando Norris
39:31has said the same thing
39:32Juan Pablo
39:33both Mercedes
39:34power units
39:35powering
39:36the McLaren
39:37and the Williams
39:38and the Mercedes
39:39you gotta remember
39:42and the Alpine
39:43yes
39:44it is
39:45and it's
39:45it's always
39:47the same cars
39:47you know
39:48I mean
39:48it's crazy
39:49it is
39:49I don't know
39:50how that works
39:51because it's
39:52completely random
39:53but
39:54they seem to have
39:56issues
39:56so
39:57we'll see
39:57I mean
39:58it's
39:59I always say
40:00I'd rather have
40:00the issue now
40:01than in a few hours
40:03or tomorrow
40:04before the start
40:04of the race
40:05you know
40:06it's
40:06it is hard
40:07and you might lose
40:08a little bit of track time
40:09but
40:09out of all the places
40:11you can lose track time
40:12it's here
40:13and especially
40:13with these conditions
40:15a wonderful reception
40:17for the man
40:18who won his last
40:19Grand Prix
40:19in Formula 1
40:20around this venue
40:21meant so much
40:22to him
40:23to win
40:24in front of his
40:24home crowd
40:25and look
40:26at how much
40:27this venue
40:28still gives
40:30an enormous
40:30appreciation
40:32to
40:32Fernando
40:33Alonso
40:34out on the circuit
40:36talking about
40:37the end of
40:39the team
40:40and we will be
40:41talking to
40:42Fernando Alonso
40:43in the build up
40:44to the
40:44Grand Prix
40:45here
40:46the first one
40:46to be called
40:47the Grand Prix
40:47of Barcelona
40:48of Catalunya
40:49the Spanish
40:49Grand Prix
40:50has moved
40:50to Madrid
40:51that's Formula 1's
40:52new venue
40:53we've
40:54received word
40:55from our
40:56reporter
40:56on the ground
40:59enterprising
40:59young chap
41:00called
41:01David Coulthard
41:02who has
41:03confirmed
41:03that because
41:04he did not
41:04leave the pit lane
41:05under green light
41:07the team
41:08told Luke Browning
41:09yesterday
41:09that that does
41:10not count
41:10as one of
41:11his FP1
41:12outings
41:12which
41:13is
41:14good news
41:15for him
41:16that he will
41:16get another
41:17session
41:17and get
41:18his full
41:19compliment
41:19in his role
41:20as reserve
41:21driver
41:22thanks to
41:22the information
41:23DC
41:23he joins us
41:24later on
41:24for qualifying
41:25for the
41:2636th Grand Prix
41:28to be held
41:28around here
41:30and
41:33with 37
41:34minutes to go
41:35we find
41:36George Russell
41:37about to get
41:38up and running
41:39so we're only
41:39going to get
41:40a representative
41:41session for
41:42basically
41:4340 minutes
41:44but the teams
41:45do need to
41:46understand where
41:47they are
41:47in terms of
41:48looking after
41:49the tyres
41:49getting the
41:49performance
41:50and remember
41:51a lot of
41:52the drivers
41:53like Lewis
41:54Hampton
41:54like Kimmy
41:54Antonelli
41:55have only
41:55had one
41:55session
41:56so far
41:57this weekend
41:57so you can
41:57have all
41:58the data
41:59in the world
41:59but finding
42:00out what
42:00you've actually
42:01got underneath
42:01you is
42:02vitally
42:03important
42:03here's a
42:04driver who's
42:04been on pole
42:05position around
42:05this circuit
42:06in the past
42:072022
42:08where he found
42:09himself breaking
42:10down from
42:11the lead
42:11what looked like
42:12a certain
42:13victory a couple
42:14of years ago
42:14let's take a
42:15tour around
42:15this circuit
42:16with one
42:16Pablo Montoya
42:17talking you
42:18through the
42:18corners
42:18so we're
42:19going into
42:20turn three
42:20looks pretty
42:21stable
42:23it's kind of
42:24crazy
42:24you look at
42:25yesterday how
42:25much problems
42:26they have with
42:27the back of
42:27the car
42:27so far it's
42:28looking good
42:29not amazingly
42:30fast
42:32he seemed
42:33he was saying
42:34the track
42:34seems quite
42:35a bit
42:35slower
42:35today
42:39just
42:40again
42:41it looks
42:41a little
42:42bit like
42:42the Audi
42:42that it
42:43just seems
42:43to be
42:43a little
42:44lazy
42:44look
42:45the brake
42:45turns
42:46turns the
42:46wheel
42:47and it
42:47just
42:47doesn't
42:48complete
42:49the corner
42:49fast enough
42:50so it
42:50just can't
42:51come off
42:51the corner
42:52the high
42:53speed is
42:53better
42:54that seems
42:54a lot
42:54better
42:55through there
42:56we're going
42:57into turn
42:5810
42:58heartbreaking
42:58and it's
42:59a really
43:00long
43:00entry
43:02yep
43:06here into
43:0711 and
43:0712
43:08long corner
43:09and back
43:10to the gas
43:10and now
43:10you're starting
43:11to have a
43:11little bit
43:12of issues
43:12with the
43:12rear tires
43:13and traction
43:13easy flat
43:14through here
43:15and should
43:16be a little
43:16lift
43:17and back
43:18on the gas
43:18and the
43:20high speed
43:20of that
43:20Ferrari
43:21looks really
43:21strong
43:23I think
43:23slow speed
43:24they're
43:24they're missing
43:25a little bit
43:25with the
43:26understeer
43:26but it's
43:27always a
43:27compromise
43:27and their
43:28P2
43:29only
43:298 hundredths
43:30off
43:30very even
43:31between
43:32Lando Norris
43:32who has
43:33the benchmark
43:33time
43:34and Charles
43:35Leclerc
43:35who's
43:357 hundredths
43:36of a second
43:36slower
43:37Oscar Piastri
43:38seemed to have
43:38good balance
43:39around here
43:40when he
43:41was competing
43:42in both
43:43of the
43:43sessions
43:44yesterday
43:44it was
43:45an enjoyable
43:47day of
43:48work for him
43:48he was
43:49third fastest
43:49but had a
43:50snap on the
43:51exit of
43:51turn 12
43:53that cost him
43:54time
43:54so a
43:54clean lap
43:55would have
43:56potentially seen
43:57him top of
43:58the pile
43:58he also said
44:00leaving the
44:00pits that he
44:01had no power
44:02so a very
44:03strange issue
44:04affecting
44:05Carlos Sainz
44:07who was in
44:08conversation with
44:08the team
44:09trying to
44:09recalibrate the
44:10settings of the
44:11car
44:12Lando Norris
44:13and also on
44:14his out lap
44:14Oscar Piastri
44:15having the same
44:16thing
44:16so unusual
44:17for the
44:18customer teams
44:19of the Mercedes
44:20power unit
44:21here's Oscar
44:21Piastri
44:22attacking the
44:23first corner
44:23of the
44:24racetrack
44:24real rhythm
44:25to these
44:26first three
44:26turns
44:27here he
44:27goes
44:28through turn
44:29one
44:29the long
44:29radius
44:30and it is
44:30amazing
44:31couple of
44:32corners to
44:32start the
44:32Grand Prix
44:33with that
44:33long run
44:34from the
44:34front row
44:35and now the
44:36long radius
44:36of turn
44:37three
44:37let's see
44:38where Piastri
44:38stacks up
44:39compared to
44:40Lando Norris
44:42he's a tenth
44:43and a bit
44:43in a
44:44rears
44:44after the
44:45first
44:45third
44:46of the
44:46lap
44:47yeah
44:48it looks
44:49pretty stable
44:49and everything
44:50but
44:50that Lando
44:51first sector
44:52looks really
44:52strong
44:55because if
44:56you look
44:56at it
44:56the car
44:57looks pretty
44:58solid
44:58and it
44:58changes
44:59direction
44:59better
44:59look
45:00it
45:00gets there
45:01and actually
45:01completes
45:02the corner
45:02a little
45:02better
45:03than Charles
45:04I don't know
45:05how good
45:05it's through
45:05here
45:05in the
45:06high
45:06speed
45:08big
45:09understeer
45:09you saw
45:10that
45:10he had to
45:10pedal out
45:11and we
45:12have a
45:12little bit
45:12of wind
45:12pushing
45:13the car
45:13out there
45:14as well
45:14so
45:14that middle
45:15sector
45:15wasn't
45:16great
45:17yeah
45:18the wind
45:18direction
45:18has changed
45:19earlier today
45:19it was a
45:20headwind
45:20which was
45:21useful
45:21for the
45:21F3
45:22drivers
45:22trying some
45:23late braking
45:25moves
45:25into the
45:25first turn
45:26and the
45:26usual
45:27chaos
45:27that
45:27accompanied
45:28fast
45:29corners
45:29that
45:29complete
45:30the
45:30lap
45:30now
45:31and
45:31you've
45:32got the
45:32live
45:32speed
45:32on the
45:33right
45:33hand
45:33side
45:34amazing
45:35just a
45:36feather lift
45:36around
45:37that final
45:37turn
45:37and Piastri
45:38just chasing
45:39it
45:39it didn't
45:42look like
45:42there was
45:43a huge
45:43amount
45:45that
45:45was
45:46diagnosable
45:47in terms
45:47of that
45:47but a lot
45:48of understeer
45:48for Oscar
45:49Piastri
45:50and the
45:50Australian
45:50driver
45:51who this
45:52weekend
45:52tries to
45:52win his
45:53first
45:53Grand Prix
45:53since back
45:54in August
45:54last year
45:55when he was
45:55on the
45:56top step
45:56at this
45:57man's
45:58home race
45:58Max Verstappen
45:59is out
45:59there
46:00this
46:01circuit
46:01with its
46:02medium
46:02and high
46:02speed
46:03corners
46:03Juan Pablo
46:04exposing
46:05the
46:05limitations
46:05that the
46:06team
46:06expected
46:07to have
46:07at the
46:08start
46:08of the
46:08weekend
46:09yeah
46:09it really
46:10exposes
46:10the
46:11weakness
46:12of every
46:12car
46:13and we
46:13have
46:13every
46:13car
46:14on track
46:14now
46:14so
46:15like
46:15everybody's
46:16gonna
46:16be
46:16going
46:16we'll
46:17see
46:17where
46:17how
46:18much
46:18of a
46:18step
46:18they
46:19do
46:19Red Bull
46:19from
46:20yesterday
46:20because
46:21that car
46:22was sideways
46:23yesterday
46:24so far
46:25it looks
46:25okay
46:26a little
46:27twitchy
46:27going into
46:28turn
46:28three
46:28there
46:28you
46:28see
46:29going
46:29back
46:29to
46:29the
46:29gas
46:29you
46:30can
46:30see
46:30a
46:30little
46:30bit
46:30of
46:31movement
46:31it was
46:32like
46:32I
46:33thought
46:33the
46:33front
46:33wing
46:34was
46:34broken
46:34like
46:35I
46:35had
46:35no
46:35front
46:36trip
46:36at all
46:37we saw
46:38the same
46:43yeah
46:45Max looks
46:45pretty solid
46:46through sector
46:46one
46:46his pushing
46:47car
46:47looks
46:48really
46:48neutral
46:48it
46:49looks
46:49very
46:49a car
46:50that Max
46:50likes
46:50to drive
46:51that is
46:51on the
46:52nose
46:52and
46:52then
46:53oh
46:53not so
46:54much
46:54here
46:54but
46:54in
46:54the
46:55first
46:55sector

46:56look
46:56very
46:56much
46:56on
46:56the

46:56we'll
46:57see
46:57up
46:57the
46:57hill
46:57here
46:58with
46:58the
46:58wind
47:00that's
47:00a
47:00big
47:00difference
47:01compared
47:01with
47:01the
47:01McLaren
47:02through
47:02there
47:07comfortably
47:08up
