00:00Hello, thanks for joining me for your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04It's cold out there still.
00:05Many places fine and sunny today, but a few spots continuing to see snow showers coming in from the north.
00:11Here's the bigger picture, the view from space, the speckling of snow showers to the west of the UK.
00:17There is a weather front out west and that will start to change things a little bit over the next 24 hours.
00:23But for the time being, high pressure sitting to the east and allowing the northerly winds to continue.
00:28We've seen lots of snow showers coming in across eastern England.
00:32They will continue through the rest of today into parts of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, down to Norfolk in particular.
00:38Snow showers continue to feed into northern Scotland and some clipping West Wales, Pembrokeshire, down into Cornwall and some parts of Devon too.
00:46A brisk wind blowing those showers in here and across northern Scotland, making it feel even colder than it is.
00:54For many, though, as I say, it's just a fine sunny day.
00:57Temperature-wise, we're generally getting low single figures, one to maybe four or five degrees Celsius.
01:02But it does feel colder if you've got that breeze and when the showers come along.
01:06And they'll continue to come along over parts of West Wales, southwest England into the evening.
01:10The showers should be fading over eastern parts of England.
01:13But wherever we've seen the showers through the day, everything freezes up overnight.
01:17And then we start to see a change across Scotland, clouding over through the night with a more of a mixture of rain, sleet and snow edging in here.
01:25But certainly a further covering is possible.
01:27Central belt southwards, we've got a yellow warning in place that starts at midnight.
01:32Since, again, things like to be pretty slippery wherever we've got the showers through the night as temperatures fall rapidly back below freezing through this evening.
01:41And by dawn, there'll be a few degrees below freezing in towns and cities, several degrees below in rural spots.
01:47It's not quite as cold in Scotland because there will be more clouds spilling in here.
01:51But still the potential for ice and still some snow to be falling into Tuesday.
01:56These are the warnings for Tuesday morning.
01:59Icy conditions where we've got the showers across eastern England and Wales and southwest England.
02:04But also could be waking up to a covering across central Scotland and maybe parts of northern England as we see a zone of thicker cloud bringing a dusting of snow in here.
02:14The snow could get heavy for a time across Scotland.
02:16That is an area we need to keep an eye on.
02:18We are seeing things slowly turning milder.
02:20So it's going to be a really messy mix across Scotland tomorrow.
02:23There may be some rain for a time at lower levels, but certainly over relatively modest hills, relatively small hills, we could see some further heavy dumps of snow, likely to cause some further disruption.
02:34So that is an area that needs watching.
02:36It may turn colder later in the day.
02:38For a good chunk of England and Wales, again, it'll be dry and sunny and cold.
02:43But it is slowly, as you can see, trying to turn a bit milder as the winds try and come in from the west.
02:49But still that northerly in northern Scotland bringing a colder feel.
02:53As I say, that develops through the evening time and everything freezes up.
02:57Again, the potential for further snow and ice.
03:00This zone of wetter weather sinking south across England and Wales.
03:04That will be more of a mixture of rain or sleet at low levels.
03:07A bit of snow likely over the hills as we go through Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
03:11That will clear away, leaving things very icy potentially on Wednesday morning.
03:17Another weak weather system then comes in during Wednesday.
03:21And then all eyes on this weather system developing out to the west.
03:25Quite a bit of uncertainty about how far north, how far south that's going to get.
03:29And the complications as it interacts with the colder air.
03:32It could bring some further snow as we go through Thursday night and into Friday.
03:37That is an area we'll be keeping a very close eye on over the next day or so.
03:41And if you want more on the uncertainties with that weather system,
03:44you can watch this week's Met Office Week Ahead forecast with Aiden.
03:47That will be available on our YouTube channel on Monday afternoon.
